| Fitness | I need to add some strength tranining...what to buy? | Nov 16 2009 16:24 (UTC) |

Resistance bands often come in very cheap multiple strength sets, I got mine at Target for $10 and I don't think that I will ever outgrow the set. |

Yeah that resistance band was awful. I bought a box of 3 different bands at Target for about $10 and I love the control that gives me over the exercises, and it also makes me think that I must be burning more calories than it says that I do, seeing as how I am using much more resistance.

I use it and it is awesome. I'm not using it for weight loss, just for a good morning workout, but I can definitely feel it the next day. I have seen results in my arms and legs, I just wish it did more for the abs. If you are using it for weight loss, you might want to add in some more of the cardio workouts that it provides. Good Luck! |

I will definitely be boiling the rice for 20 minutes before I add it :) |

It is supposed to go in uncooked, with e veggies and some water and the sondensed soup (with the chicken on top). Either cooking it for like 20 mins before I mix it in with the other ingredients or adding more water and cooking it longer are the 2 options I was considering, but I think that cooking it longer might make the chicken overdone? Maybe I'll try cooking the rice for a while first. |

I really appreciate the advice :) Dumbbells are not an option, break taking is not encouraged here and I do not want to get caught. Thanks! |

Lunges and 1 legs- check Unfortunately my chair does roll so dips are out. And the crunch I am referring to is sitting up really straight, crossing my legs at the ankle, and lifting my knees using my abs, is that bad? good? Thanks for the advice. |

Also, I know that Boston Market has a gluten free menu (aside from the breads and pastas of course) in case you ever need something like that. |

Wow that makes complete sense. Thank you :) Since there is a chest cough involved I guess I am just going to rest and cut my calories down a bit. |

I have it and I love it until it doesn't pick up one of my moves for some reason, then I develop homicidal urges towards "Julie" (the trainer). Also I wish the music was better, but the workout are great, they really push me, and its short enough to fit into my day easily. Good luck! |

You don't need the Wii balance board for the EA Active personal trainer game, just the wiimote and the nunchuck. And yes it hurts :) |

30 m&m's are 100 or so calories and, to me at least, way better that a 100 calorie pack. Or I'll have a 60 cal pudding or 2 reduced fat oreos and a small glass of skim milk. |

A grilled chicken salad with light dressing (whatever kind you like, if its heavy remember to dip instead of pour), a nice piece of fruit, and a small piece of high quality dark chocolate. Should taste great and keep you full. If you have the allottment for it, add a pice of healthy bread or another whole grain source to that and you'll be made in the shade :) Have fun! |

If you're really hurting for calories, go out and pick up a can of low sodium veggie or chicken soup. the whole can shouldn't be more than 200 calories or so and if you add a salad, some raw/steamed veggies and/or a slice of whole wheat toast with that you should be able to come in at 400 or much less and be really full. |

Yeah I hardly ever get them but they were on sale :) I'm wondering if frozen mixed berries would be cheaper over the long run? I will check out my local street market this weekend to see who has them for less than the grocery store. |

smwhipple- way ahead of you :) I measured my dessert wine glasses and they only hold 3.5oz if you fill them right to the tippy top, so I am only having 6oz or so on the nights when I have 2 glasses. I am fairly good at planning balanced meals, and I do have to occasionally go over my cal limit or skip the wine in favor of something else. I really appreciate all of the input. I think for now I will cut the consumption to 3 nights a week (tops) and invest in higher quality wines so that when I do trat myself, its even better. Thanks again. |

| Fitness | calories burned versus calories eaten | Jun 02 2009 18:18 (UTC) |

You burn at least 1200 calories a day just by being alive. Generally speaking. Exercise calories burned are a sort of "bonus" on top of that. So at my age, height, and weight, I burn 1700 calories just living, and an extra 400 or so by staing active. I hope that helps :) |

I actually measured my wine glasses so that I know how much is going into them and how much I am really drinking. Its amazing how easily one can underestimate this amount. |

I just had a whole mess of them with some crackers, best 100 calorie snack ever! Seriously, how much more filling are like 50 raspberries and a light string cheese than a 100 calorie pack?! OK I need calm down about the berries :) |

I know :) I don't ever drink to get drunk (hardly ever anyways) I just love the taste, love pairing it with the actually rather healthy meals that I cook, and I feel that I can incorporate my consumption of alcohol into a healthy lifestyle. I was just hoping for some guidance from others who had perhaps struggled with this issue. Thanks. |

I had the chicken, had half of the serving, with a lovely salad (light dressing of course) and half of my potato and it was worth every cheesy delicious bite. I am certain that my fiance will clean up the leftovers while I am at work but he is 6'3" so he actually needs all of the calories :) Thanks for the input! |

Gah it is so hard to make good choices sometimes. I think I will go for the skewers, I can't imagine marinating something in a cream sauce to go on the grill and I know it is better for me. Thanks for the help. |
