| I'm glad you went to see the doctor. I had that issue and it ended up being a tumor in my pituaruty gland. Make sure he checked your prolaction levels when he did the labs. I'm glad your issue seems to be resolved though. | |||

| when i was gaining necessary weight it was almost impossible for me to gain even on a 3500-4000 calories a day. I say that to tell you not to be afraid to eat. Your body needs it.
Is there a reason you are using diet breads, light cheese and skim milk? In order to get the needed extra calories I would start there. Also gatorade and whey protien isn't a meal. My after work out snack is 2 small granola bars, 2 string cheeses and 2 servings of dried fruit or the equivalant. Also remember all foods are legal. You know, it might not be a bad idea to speak with a registered dietition. Each person's meal plan needs to be created for them and it looks like it would be good for you to have some professional input in your diet. Even if they are able to tell you how many calories you should be having and how much from each food group I think it would help a whole lot. |

| Health & Support | Anorexia recovery... dealing with the uncontrollable weight gain!!! | Feb 23 2007 09:06 (UTC) |

| my dietition has told me that it is advised for someone recovering from anorexia to actually gain 6-10 lbs OVER their healthy body weight and hold it there for several years. That is how our body is able to replenish itself from the damage that we did to it. After a while it will settle down into a more comfortable and natural weight but they say that it imprtant not to just hit the bottm 'healthy' bmi, like 17.5 or whatever. Plus, like someone else said, you are still underweight. I realise it is scary. Heck, I am waiting to go inpatient for my ED right now because I am a walking heart attack in the making (relapse), but you need to trust that this is what your body needs to be healthy. | |||

| Oh, and I forgot to mention that you can probably get some pretty accurate break-downs for the amount of calories you want to consume online. There are several sites that list 1200, 1400, 1800, 2000, 2500 exchange lists.
I am anorexic and not wanting to recover right now but when I was recovering and gaining and hypo-metabolic I was eating 13 starches, 9 protien, 4 milk, 4 fruit, 4 veggies a day, so each persons exchanges are going to be different. Right now I am refeeding and on 2 starches, 3 protien, 2 veggies, 2 fruits and 2 milks which comes to 800 calories. I work with a dietition to create the correct exhcanges I need for me at this time. |

| I use the diabetic food exchanges, another option is looking at food groups. With the diabetic food exchanges, I just make sure I get the correct number of exchanges of each type in a day (starch, protien, fruit, veggie, dairy and fat but I don't count fat).
One starch exhcange is 15 grams of carbs: 1 slice of regular bread (2 diet), 1/2 cup potatoes and pasta, 1/3 cup rice 1 protien exchange is 7 grams protien: 1 egg, 1 oz meat or cheese dairy is 8 oz milk, 1 oz cheese, 6-8 oz yougert fruit and veggie exchanges are roughly 1 cup raw, 1/2 cup cooked, 1/4 cup dried Basically then I just check off the food groups and exchanges in my head and for me the fats balance out. It's just a good reminder of portion control and getting in the correct foods but it doesn't feel so obsessive. |

| you can ask them. they scoops they have are measured, typically 1/2 cup and 1/3 cup. you can request they cap it off instead of adding the extra--or you can just ask them what the scoop size is and then add a bit for the extra, i would guess 25% more than the scoop size. | |||

| I grew up wondering why the tea and coffee houses never offered Melktart as a tea option. My parents immagrated from South Africa a few years before I was born and then I lived with my relatives there in highschool, we had tea every afternoon my whole life and this dessert was a staple. Throught college I hunted for a place that served Melktart because it tastes so good and I couldn't find anyone who knew what it was. It wasn't until then that I found out it wasn't a staple in everyone's house.
I found this recipe recently. It doesn't taste quite right. Melktert SOUTH AFRICA South African Melktert or Milk Tart is a variaton of an egg custard pie which originated with the Dutch settlers who came South Africa in 1652 Melktert was then modified and made a purely South African creation by the Cape Malays who were brought to South Africa as slaves INGREDIENTS METHOD Preheat oven to 400o F Line the bottom and sides of two pie plates with the puff pastry and make a raised edge for each. |

| Foods | bloated and refeeding | Feb 05 2007 02:18 (UTC) |

| moop--yes, I've been taking gas-x. It just doesn't seem to be doing anything at all. It's odd. I've had my latte's regularly and I used to get most of my protien from dairy products (4 cups of milk at least a day plus a good amount of cheese). I probably have increased the broccoli and cauliflower more because I've increased what I've been eating though (typically my soup has a potato base, not cauliflower).
Hmm, I'm not sure how long you would say I've been anorexic. I've always had disordered eating issues that stemmed from my childhood. Then I got cancer and took some drugs that turned me into a balloon and I gained a lot of weight. I went off the drugs and start ed loosing and just never stopped. A year and a half ago I went into treatment at 80 lbs and then worked with my RD to get me up to an almost healthy weight but once I past the 100 mark my head started going crazy again. It was a while until I would qualify for anorexia again and I haven't been in recovery for aout 6 months now. I'm not sure if that answers your question because my bmi did spike to a healthy number at one time although its always been an issue since I was a kid (only drug induced wt gain) I like the idea of a baked potato. I have a new potato that I've been wanting to cut up and bake in the oven. Would the butter and sour cream help with the bloating. This time in refeeding I have been paying a whole lot more attention to not eating fats vs last time when I lived on whole chocolate milk. Or is it just to boost up my cals some or is it just becase it tastes good. I ask because I was planning on preparing them a bit different, a bit lower in fat (garlic and seasonings). I also saw a sweet ptoato recipe I wanted to try somewhere and I think I have one if its still good. What veggies and fruits and safe foods are pretty good for not giving gas? Last time I refeed I was tube fed and then ate whatever was put on my plate so I didn't have to worry about these choices. |

| well can you imagine the london broil all put together. 3 ozs is about the size of a deck of cards so idk, maybe 6 ozs (depending on the size). I'm not sure if then you can go onto the calorie counter and find an equal grade of steak (along with however it was cooked seasoning wise--ie butter) and then punch in the guesstiamted amount of ozs. You should be able to find the baked potato in the calorie counter.
I am new here so I am not too savvy with the counter. |

| Thanks.
Yes, I am under medical care. I went and saw my doc last week (by force because it took a bit less decision making than packing my bags and running away). Anyway, he did the tests and my ekg was ok so he said we will reevaluate in a week (tomorrow). Up until 2 weeks ago I had a diatition but she had to quit 'due to a personal emergancy.' So I am kinda feeling hung out to dry, not like I was following the meal plan she was giving me anyway. I had just decided to start eating again the session she told us that, just had written her a letter asking for real help and not wanting to BS. Its dumb because I have been looking for an new dietition and none of them take people at 'that low of a weight'...and they say they work with anorexia. I have been in inpatient treatment before but my insurance wont cover anything now. If I could I would have an ng tube outpatient or be in a partial program but my insurance wont cover. My RD told me she believes I know nutrition enough that if I want to I can create my own meal plans and get out of this. So I don't have many otpions here. I've increased my caloric intake by about 200-300 calories now and added the oatmeal daily. I'm just wondering if the oatmeal is what is making me so sick and I need to figure out something else to eat. I don't want to end up in the hosptial tomorrow, so I am trying but I am feeling so lost in all of this. |
