Honestly.... I won't be able to do that.  I know myself, and I know where I'm at right now.

I'd honestly rather not have it around.

Don't be discouraged!

Your desire to lose the weight is healthy and admirable.

How long have you walked around with that extra weight on?  How long has it bothered you deep inside?  How long have you felt better than that?

Answer those questions.  Then realize that this journey is so wonderful.  Reaching your goal weight is awesome.  But once you do that its just maintaining it.  You won't get the awesome feeling of doing something good for yourself as much as you do now.  You won't get the joy of dropping another 10 lbs. again!

Instead of trying to reach the end without the trip, enjoy the trip.  Sure it won't be easy.  But think of all the wonderful milestones.  Keep at it.  I'm trying to hit 160 from 294.

If your leg hurts, take it easy.  Go swimming, or something else that isn't going to hurt you more.  And if you need to talk, let me know.  I'm glad to listen.

Drink a glass of water when you think you're hungry.  This will usually clear it up.

If that fails, try a listerine breath strip.  Then you have that "just brushed your teeth" thing going on and the thought of eating becomes disgusting.

Also, try having a small piece of what you want and offering the rest to other people in the dorm.

If all else fails, tell yourself you can only have the sweets etc. after a meal.  Make sure you eat a full and healthy meal, and you won't want to eat as much.  Those treats will be lasting you longer in no time.

Weight Loss 12 step program for PB addiction? Feb 08 2007

Definitely not the least calorie dense recipe in the world, but if you need your PB fix, try this:

Cook a box of pasta, spaghetti or linguini works well.  Wheat pasta will work just as good.

Mix parts of Peanut Butter, Low Sodium Soy Sauce and Rice Wine Vinegar until it becomes creamy but not TOO liquidy.  Add chili paste, garlic or cayenne pepper to taste.

Give a brief sautee to some chicken or Shrimp, or grill it.  I like to use about a teaspoon of sesame oil for flavor.

Take a cucumber, take out the seeds and julienne the meat.

Let the pasta cool a little before the next step, so that it won't absorb all of the liquid, but don't let it get too sticky either.

Add the shrimp and pasta to the noodles, as well as the cucumber.  Mix well.  Allow to chill for at least 2 hours.

Serve cold as a side dish, or a main course.

I love me some spicy thai peanut noodles.  And if you do it in moderation, it's not that bad for you.  And you def. get the PB fix.

Hey you!  Don't give up!  =D

Find your motivation in small places.  Set small goals for yourself.  I have 130-something pounds to lose.  You know what my first goal is?

Five pounds.  FIVE.  That's nothign compared to what I need to do in the long run, but when it happens I already know what I'm getting myself as a reward.  I won't mention it here to try and play down my geek-factor.  But it's not food.

All you can do is stick to it.  Because if you don't, not only will you feel bad for failing, you'll go back to feeling the way you did before you started trying.

Chin up, and good luck.

I understand your frustration and that you want to help people.

It's also not that easy in the beginning.  My BMI is 41, I'm trying very hard to do this right, and I am weak.  I am the first person to admit that I am weak and I have very little willpower.

"Perfection lies not in being perfect, but in the attempt." - St. Francis DeSales (I believe.)

Obviously if they put the money in the jar they are aware they have a problem.  Maybe some helpful but indirect encouragement?  Put a bulletin about this site on a cork-board at work.  Or start an e-mail list for all the people in the competition, and send them recipe and health ideas each day.

I can say with certainty that most overweight people know they have a problem. A lot of us have little willpower, and cry/beat ourselves up about our shortcomings.  Knowing that someone cares helps to get the ball rolling.

Be kind.

We actually had a talk about it today.  She agreed to do the room if I keep the kitchen in order.  I have no problem doing dishes and mopping, so I think it's going to work out.

I just started all of this, and I haven't done well at all.  So my goals are simple, but still a HUGE deal to me.

1- Eat three balanced and well portioned meals each day.

2 - Snack lightly as necessary, but on healthy things, like fruits, vegetables and nuts on occasion.

3- 30-45  minutes of exercise each day.

4- Spend some time on CC reading and responding to posts, get the support I need to get through the weekend.

5- Bring lower calorie beverage options to the party I'm going to on Saturday night, so that I won't feel awful about my life.  (Citrus Vodka and Soda ftw).

Every day this week.

Even today =/

BUT, I am realizing it more now since I've started this site.  These forums are a big help.  Tomorrow there is no work, just me at home, so I won't be tempted by junk all around.  And I won't want to eat  out.  (I am a big homebody.)

Tomorrow is the first day of the rest of my life.  This weekend will hopefully give me the momentum I need for a big push.

Honestly, being out of the relationship is probably one of the best things that can happen to you with regard to your weight loss.  I've put on almost 50 lbs. since I moved in with my significant other.

It's so much easier to justify eating junk when someone else is doing it next to you.

Go have a good cry, scream, or whatever you need.  Then realize that there is a reason that they are an "ex".  You don't need them, and you don't need food as a crutch.

You can do this.

Meh, she's not that bad.  She's really wonderful, but she just has a strange way of "motivating" herself that doesn't work for me.

She's really supportive of me in a lot of things, but she is kind of OCD when it comes to the house being clean, which I'm not.  If it looks decent, I'm happy.  If its not spotless she's freaking out.  And with weight loss she is just kind of mean to herself.  Not that I'm the kindest person to myself.

I failed.

My stomach hurts and I feel bloated.

I'm crying now.  I know this is bad for me and I can't win, at least it seems like I can't.  I don't want to die young, I just need willpower.

I'm feeling it cringing on the back of my mind again.  Some sick part of me is planning a binge and I know exactly what it wants to eat.  I am really scard that I'll let myself do it.

Sometimes driving home from work it takes intense physical willpower to turn the steering wheel towards home instead of the pizza place.

I want to cry.  =/

I'm a little nippish, but forgot to pack anything else.....

Thinking about going downstairs and getting some trail mix.

I guess I should probably be shooting for 1800 or so.  CC says 2457 is what I need, and if I cut about 600 off that should be a pound a week, plus exercise.  I'm brand new to all of this, and I'm just trying to eat healthy foods.

One more joining the party here.  And another guy no less!

I weigh 294 lbs.  It's gross, and I hate it.  I should weight around 160.  That's 134 to go.  Ouch.

My biggest problem so far today is that I've only eat 664 calories today, and I don' feel deprived or hungry.  I don't know where I'm going to find 836 more for dinner time....  HELP!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

You're 1/2 pound thinner.  That is such an amazing thing.  Go to the kitchen and lift an 8 ounce can of something.  Go, really, go do it.  That's roughly half a pound.  That is pretty intense when you think about it.

Even the little victories in our lives are victories.  Keep smiling, and keep working, and you'll get there.

*hugs*

Well, I'm not in movies or anything, but I do stage shows and get paid for it, so by definition I am a professional actor...I work at a law firm too, but not for much longer.

I saw it last night, hilarious movie.  Lots of heart too.

While I am a professional actor with some background in Musical Theatre, my username is just what it has been since I was a silly emo-goth-kid in highschool, it has always just stuck.

I figure there is nothing more beautiful and strong than an angel's song of praise, victory and triumph.

At the same time there is nothing more lamentable than the dirge of an angel fallen from grace.  Still beautiful, but in a somber way.

People are the same way, always beautiful, always worthy of respect and notice, but we only seem to take notice of the beauty of happy ones.

*shrug*

I used to listen to the Smiths and the Cure and cry a lot.

Well the short answer:

Eat less, exercise more.

The long answer is to eat more fresh fruits and vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains.  Cut down on carbonated beverages, fatty foods, and sweets.

I'm going to severely cut down on, and try to eliminate high fructose corn syrup, sugar, palm kernel oil, saturated fats, hydrogenated oils and enriched grain products.

As for exercise I'll start with something easy, like 20-30 minutes of walking or other mobility exercise.  Once that becomes routine and easy, I'll tack on a couple days a week of a more intense cardiovascular workout, as well as 2-3 resistance based workouts a week.  By increasing my muscle mass I'll be able to burn more calories at rest.

For now I'm going to work on the eating less junk and 20-30 minutes of mobility a day.
