| My boyfriend lost about 25 pounds in 6 months on that thing. He changed the measurments and let me use it. I have a hard time remembering to put it on, but it is kind of cool for someone who is just begining to count calories. For me, it is stuff that I already knew from this site. It is pretty cool, but I only needed to wear it for a week to figure out pretty much how much I burn and how much to eat. If you are just begining fitness/nutrition I think it will be very helpful! | |||

| I think everyone's advice is so good! Try not to let this precious time go by feeling miserable. Especially when you have sooooo much to be happy about. I think that trying to run a half marathon may be a great goal for you. Perhaps find a running group or a friend to train with. . . . | |||

| Yes! Me too!! I eat about 4 apples a day. Sometimes a will substitute 2 apples for a different kind of fruit, but usually it is apples. Right now I am stuck on the Gala apples. . . . | |||

| Wow, I can relate to your post. I recently gained 4 pounds from doing absolutly nothing. No changes!!! No PMS!!! Same scale. The way I am handling it is weighing myself one time a week. No one is going to notice a 3 pound difference. Or, a 4 pound difference (This is what I tell myself), so why keep weighing yourself? All it does is ruin my day. Ignorance is Bliss in some ways. . . Fluctuation will occurr everyday. Especially ony a pund or a half a pound. It could be soooo many factors!!! HAng in there. | |||

| I don't know how helpful this is, but I experience the same thing when I start to work out. I gain weight! If I do not work out at all I lose about three pounds. When I work out I gain three pounds. How much weight are you talking about?? I keep telling myself that it is just three pounds. It could be muscle or water weight from my muscles reparing themselves. I don't lift weights or anything and I do about a half hour of cardio. It is a little frustrating. That is for sure!! | |||
| Health & Support | possible binge disorder? need advice/support... | Apr 10 2008 22:09 (UTC) |

| It sounds like this has been very difficult for you. Are you sure there is no free counseling at your school? They may not provide eating disorder treatment there, but they could certainly assist you with coping skills and feelings of stress, depression, and lonliness. I don't think it is necessary to lable what the problem is, but clearly you are not as happy as you could be. You know, you can be healthy and increase your daily calorie intake while continuing to write calories down, plan ahead and work out (the part of diesting you said you enjoy). I think that 1200 is pretty darn low and you are not over weight in my opinion. You will likely feel more like exercising if you are feeding your body closer to 1800 (on days you exercise) and maybe 1500 on days you dont. That still may be too low. THe first thing I would do if I had difficulty with binging would be to increase my calories by a couple hundred.
FYI: I am speaking from experience and have been exactly where you are. I have binged and I have tried restricting my calories. The advice above is what worked for me. Good Luck! I am sending positive thoughts your way! |

| This is a huge challenge for me. I rarely feel comfortable eating in front of others. Plus, tonight I have a dinner date (the worst!!!!). I feel like whatever I eat makes me look like a pig. However, at the same time, I do not want to look like I don't eat or someone who is super picky. I truly do not know what to do. Plus, this restaurant is a weird menu. They do not have nice salds or anything. I hate to bust in on a thread that is already going, but how do others handle dates and not liking to eat in front of people????? | |||

| I can't decide if I should be congratulated or condemned. I had a "mini-binge" on Saturday. I had a frozen Amy's Thai meal (310 calories). It was so good, but sooooo small!!! Then I had an entire bag of Orville Redenbocker Smart Pop (240 calories), and two granola bars (320) and carrots and an apple (140). After that I went out with friends and drank a Mango Mojito and a mexican dessert, kind of like a doughnut. This is a lot of food and calories. This was all after eating about 750 calories for breakfast and lunch. I consider this a mini-binge and could have had waaayyyy more. So I feel guilty and proud at the same time. For instance, I did not have any chips and salsa at the restaurant and I did not come home and eat the left over pizza in my fridge. ALso, I weighed the same in the morning as I did the day before prior to my binge. Ahhhhh, just wanted to get all that out. Thanks! | |||

| Thanks for your responses. I suppose I just wanted confirmation on what I already know. I guess the word is reassurance. I appreciate your response, Liljdoll. That was exactly what I was looking for. It is scary to step on the scale and see a three pound weight gain that puts you at a weight you have not been at in at least a month. I appreciate the supportive responses that I received. | |||

| Oh man, I am right there with you. Extremely stressful week. My roommate got two boxes of See's chocolates for Valentine's day and left for the weekend with a note by the candy saying "Enjoy!" After the past couple of days I have been having, I just want to eat the entire box. I suppose instead I try to do other indulgant things like get a massage or hang out with friends or sit at a coffee shop. I know these are not very indulgent, but if money is an issue than you need to come up with inexpensive ways to pamper yourself, without food! | |||
| Motivation | Tips for Weekend Overeaters? | Feb 13 2008 18:30 (UTC) |

| I figured I would respond because I notice I lose a couple pounds on the weekend and find it easier to watch my intake. I think it is because I stay very busy. If you snack through out the day, keep the snacks small and frequent. Like if I go to the mall, I bring a granola bar. I usually do not count my alcoholic beverages. I just write in my log that I also had 1 to 3 drinks, just so I know what my body can handle without gaining. I limit eating out to just one time on the weekend which really helps. When I go out for the meal, I stick to a salad with some kind of protein and let myself eat some bread. I am pretty much satisfied with that. Then it becomes habit. I can't imagine ordering anything else at a resteraunt (sp?)! | |||

| Last week I posted this same exact question. I get just as bloated during ovulation as PMS. Almost the same exact symptoms, but worse acne mid-cycle. I have heard that this is normal. This means that basically you have one week of feeling awesome!!! Dang, it is hard being a woman. | |||

| Hi Sheebz
I have worked in the field of addictions for many, many years. One thing that is being omitted here is the need to go to AA meetings. That is the place where you will learn the most about recovery concepts, relapse prevention and what to expect (sleeping patterns, weight changes, etc.). Who better to learn from than people who have experienced it themselves? Smartrecovery (the website posted in another post) is actually a very bad idea (no offense). I can't believe they teach that at a master's program. I have my Master's and my License in two states and It is well known in the field that abstinence is the only way to go. Not that it is easy and everyone has their own path. Try reading The Big Book. That will probably be the most helpful or seek professional help when you are ready. You need to address the alcohol problem before the weight problem. |

| eating about 2300 calories in a day is not bad if you burn 600 at the gym. Keep your dinner to about 300 calories. Try allowing yourself 2300 calories a day and work out at the gym. You will not gain wait during finals if this is what you mean by overeating. | |||

| I am the same exact way. I probably eat every half hour.
two pieces of toast, 2 cups of grapes, granola bar, apple, tuna wrap, fiber one cereal (1 cup), another apple. All before 5 and before dinner. For me, it is mostly out of boredom. |

| Thank you. I don't know if you'll read this response, but this past Sunday I started walking 5 minutes and running 1 until I get to 30 minutes. I wanted to see if my body could even handle the movement of running. I did this Sun, Mon, and Tues. I am taking today off, but I feel better physcially than I have in a very long time even with the running! I am thinking that next Monday I will increase to walk four run two or something until I get to three miles and go from there. . . How does that sound?? | |||

| Weight Loss | How to go from 1500 calories to 1200 | Nov 08 2007 19:04 (UTC) |

| I have a REALLY hard time going under 1500 calories as well. So, instead of eating less, I try to burn at least 300 calories at the gym (very easy to do, you can just walk for an hour or do the elliptical for 20 minutes (this is an estimation)). Anyway, I have been maintaining under 120 pounds and I am 5'4 doing it this way. . . .. Good luck, I find if I go under 1500 calories I binge. . . . | |||
| Weight Loss | I overate this weekend. What can I do this week to undo the damage? | Nov 05 2007 15:39 (UTC) |

| I am in the same boat. Had soooooo much chips and salsa Friday and Saturday. Plus, alcohol. Margaritas!! I had a fun weekend but feel totally gross today. So, my plan is to drink lots of water, go to the gym and stick to my normal calorie intake of about 1500 calories. I also got my period yesterday. That is kind of a good thing because by the end of the week, if I am good, I may feel way less bloated. You should feel better in a couple days. | |||

| Well, I have been terrible. Candy, potlucks, etc. . . Plus, I have had really bad PMS. Emotional eating, etc. So, I plan on starting again on Monday. Hopefully PMS will be gone. Clean eating feels Soooo good. I have to try to remember that. I am so proud of everyone who has stuck to it! | |||

| The weekend is super difficult. Especially because I have "weekend foods" that I look forward to. I am still healing from an injury and clean eating is nice when you can't work out the way you want to. But I don't cook and I am lazy, so it is VERY HARD. . . Good luck to you. Can't wait to hear how it goes!!! | |||

| I'm totally in and was planning on doing this anyway. I did it a little last week and felt great, but ruined it over the weekend (cake and icecream two days in a row!). It feels really good to do.
Starting Weight: 117lbs Calorie Intake: 1400 - 1500 cals Clean Eating for me is: Stay within calorie range, no sugar, extra salt, or anything processed. Limited amount of caffiene, no soda. Adequate amounts of fruit and veggies. Tons of water and decaf green tea. |

| Are you a swimmer (meaning are you good?). I ask because I am pretty bad. I was a runner, but injured myself. Everyone tells me to swim, but I'm not that good. I am thinking of taking swim lessons. . . Do you just go by how long you swim or are you doing distance? Also, how tall are you and what is your weight (sorry, just currious, you dont have to answer that.) Thanks so much! | |||
| Motivation | Can Anyone Relate??? | Oct 09 2007 20:16 (UTC) |

| Thanks for the response. . . . I can relate to the winter problem. Last winter was rough with running because of all the snow storms. In retrospect, I would have saved myself injury if I just didn't run as much. I reccommend just running less (on the nice days). Trust me your body will appreciate the change. Can you get to a gym or buy some home equipment (a stationary bike or elliptical?). You could also use videos.
My injury was a back injury caused by overuse (too much running!!). So, I have been doing pilates based physical therpay. Can't do yoga quite yet, but am excited to get into it when I can. |

| Ahhhhh! Going through the same thing. i am so sorry for you. Mine has been quite an ordeal. I think that a physical therapist is a great place to start. they can help you safely strengthen your back. Try to find one that emphasizes strengthening your core. Meditation can help with pain and so can accupuncture or a chiropractor. Whatever you do, you must listen to your body!! I did not and made my problem a million times worse. Walk if you can, but do not overdo exercise. Good luck!!! | |||
