| Hello. No I don't think it is offensive to wear another culture's traditional garb, but this is no where near traditional. This costume reminds me of a 50's "injun" costume from a western flick. You know the ones where the "Injuns" are the bad guys and the white man is praised for slaughtering and raping the whole tribe. Sorry going overboard again!! I guess my main issue is the double standard. | |||

| Hey if he wants to dance around like a bushman fine but don't mock me. I'm extremely proud of my heritage and i see nothing wrong with having a sports team named after Native Americans (although Redskins is still a little offensive considering it was used as an insult) but I just can't stand the double standard. Maybe I should make a commercial of my own and call myself Kunta Kinte. |

| I guess it's just the idea that well.....
Ok about to piss someone off.... Apparently it's ok for a black man to dance around like an ass waving a tomahawk around wearing a cheap red suit with a dollar store headress on his head. But if I were to do the same I'd be called racist!! |

Believe it or not you may be eating to few calories! When I first started with this whole calorie counting business I was only eating 1200-1300 cals. At first the weight dropped really fast. I'm talking 8 lbs in one week. But after awhile I think my body started to retain the weight because I wasn't taking my activity level into account. I have my activity level on cc set to sedentary but I wasn't adding in the little extras like housework or working in my storeroom (I work for telephone linemen and order and put away all their materials like heavy boxes of bolts that can weigh up to 25 lbs each). Plus all the walking I do all over the construction yard at work. I also didn't add in the exercise. So I was basically putting myself in starvation mode without even realizing it! I upped my cals to about 1400-1500 and the weight started coming off again! Also if you notice the 1-2 lbs difference in weight change a lot of times it is just water weight that we lose and gain on a regular basis. So a great tip that I learned on cc was to make sure I'm drinking enough water. I now drink about a gallon a day. It may seem like a lot at first (especially since you're running to the potty quite a bit) but I noticed a difference right away and I really think it jump started my weight loss again. One more tip and I'll stop blabbing.lol!! Sounds like you hit a plateau and for me the best way to shake that off has been to zig zag my cals. like this: Monday eat 1200 Tuesday eat 1400 Wednesday eat 1600.... You see the pattern. I usually push myself up to my maintenance level and then drop myself back down to 1400-1500. I think it kind of mildly shocks your metabolism and gets the weightloss ball rolling again. Well, hope this has helped! I've lost 23Lbs doing it this way so maybe it will work for you! Good luck. Red Raven |

I know how you feel. My biggest problem is that I obsess over the number on the scale. I weigh myself everyday when I should really only do it once a week. I need to get a tape measure and get some measurements I'm sure seeing the lost inches is a better motivator than the scale. Sometimes I just want to throw that damn thing out the window! It would make such a wonderful crunching sound! LOL!!! Red |

Good morning! Looks like our thread is going the way of the dodo! Do any of you live in or near Maryland? The MD renaissance festival is going on every weekend until Oct 22. It's a great place to meet up with pagans in the area. I'd love to meet up with some of my fellow Pagan cc'ers!! Red Raven |

Hello beanie! Oh yeah! That exercise thing... I guess I've just "forgotten" about it for the past couple of weeks! lol!! I love exercising but my biggest problem is getting my diet and smoking under control! I'm an emotional and boredom eater and when I try to stop eating when I'm bored or upset I smoke more. It's a horrible vicious cycle!! RED |

| nikkiddy-- I'm in basically the same situation except it's my parents. My father is a deacon of a southern baptist church and my mother teaches sunday school there. They don't know that I'm pagan and they won't for the same reason that you have just talked about. I already get that disappointed look when I turn down there offer of going to church with them. I can't imagine what they would do if they knew. I feel like an incredible coward. I'm very impressed by you though it really takes a lot of courage to stand up for what you believe! I have always believed that what I see as "The Truth" is not always what everyone else sees as the truth. Your husband might always believe that his faith is Truth but he also has to realize that your truth is not the same as his. Am I making sense or am I just rambling again? LOL!! Christians always talk about having a personal relationship with Jesus/God but what they don't realize (or just refuse to see) is that even people who follow another path have a personal relationship with there own Gods/Goddesses. Faith reaches the very core of your soul, your most intimate part. It is always going to be personal and because there are so many different types of people it would be crazy to think that our souls would all be the same and therefore should all follow the same path. I'm sure your frustrated and depressed at your situation but somehow you will find someway of compromising. Have you ever sat down and explained to him exactly what Wicca is? Unfortunately when people hear Wicca or Pagan they automatically think devil worship. But that is just a stigma that we pagans will have to deal with. After all the followers of the largest and most powerful religion in the world were the ones that decided that we are evil. Christianity is a blind faith also, they don't need to see the absolute truth, they just believe it because thats how America was raised and the guy in the funny hat or the guy with the collar told them so. You know the song Jesus loves me? Well of course he loves me 'cause the book that was written thousands of years ago by 1000 different men in 20 different launguages and translations with 100's of inaccuracies can't possibly be wrong! Well I feel your pain Sister. Hopefully I've been some help (or maybe you helped me for giving me a chance to rant LOL) I keep checking this post as often as I can hoping that it's still going. This is what I like to see though. Anyone having a problem being spiritual or otherwise is welcome to any help their Brothers and Sisters can give! Red Raven (WoW this is a long post!!! Sorry!) |
