OK club...encourage me! The weight is coming off soooo slowly now, and after hurting my neck doing crunches 2 weeks ago, I haven't been excercising like I had been.

Looks like I may only have lost 4 lbs this entire month! My goal is 8-10 per month!

Here's the deal: my short-term goal is coming up...I need to lose 22.5 lbs more by April 10th. Is it possible? How do you guys motivate? Any suggestions on how to do it?

OK, I'm feeling chatty. I want to share with you all that I've been frustrated too that I'm not losing that 10 lbs a week like I did at first.

On the other hand, I did lose 10 lbs in the past month, and I am feeling FABULOUS! I've been working out more than I have in 17 years - it's not a lot, but enough to give me strength and stamina (and nicely toned legs).

And you know those days that you weigh yourself and the scale shows that you've lost 3 lbs...then you weigh yourself the next day and it's back up 3 lbs? Don't be discouraged...look at how you're trending on your graph...   as long as the trend is going down, you're losing weight!

I was noticing a lot of comments about the food grading...you have to keep in mind that the grade has nothing to do with your individual goals or activity level. It grades the foods based only on their nutritional value. There are days I do an A+++ on my personal goals but my nutrition grade gets killed by the fact that the formula that figures the grade of the food balances a percentage of fats vs. sugars. This gives lots of "diet" foods like FF mayo, FF hot dogs, FF dressings, etc. a "C" because it's ratio of sugars to fats is high, even though the total calories are not! So, don't stress getting a B if you're eating the right amount of calories and fat needed for your personal goals!

Health & Support The flabby stomach overhang known as "the mother's apron" Mar 03 2007

Jen Pen - I know what you mean. It's been 16 years since my first c-section and I never regained any feeling.

I've had 2 by C -- the oldest is 16, she was a 10lber and my youngest is 6, he was almost 9 lbs.

Thanks for all the comments/encouragement/advice! I'm totally giggling right now knowing that others deal with this too. Here's a funny story for those who "get it"--

My sister and I both have this terrible overhang. She's maybe 150 lbs and probably 50 of it is just her gut. She is super skinny everywhere else so she looks like an olive on a toothpick. When I was that skinny, mean kids in school would call me "two butt" because the front was bigger than the back. (we both have NO BUTT!)

So, my sister an I, after 30 years of living with this have begun telling people that we have a birth defect and that our butts were put on backwards. We're in the process of deciding what color our "ribbon" should be to raise awareness for "backwards butt syndrome". I'm thinking silver and pink...the color of stretchmarks.

wow, lots of new people! Welcome to the club!

Hey guys, even though the weight isn't falling off of me like it was, I did lose 10 lbs last month! Yeah! Even better , I'm getting stronger and feeling better!

I just made a post in the weight forum about flabby guts, now realizing I should have made it here in the safety of my peeps. Is anyone struggling with a "mother's apron" - it's that really bad flabby and fatty abdominal overhang. Most of my body is starting to look pretty good except for that blob between my waist and my thighs. I have to buy pants 2 sizes bigger than I need just to contain it!

Has anyone here had success in getting rid of it short of a tummy tuck? Or does anyone know of any particular body shaper that works well to redistribute it so it doesn't look so bad???

Thanks for the encouragement, everyone! My weight/size still hasn't budged, but I have been adding more calories and excercise. As far as water goes, I'm really good about drinking at least 64 oz a day, but I have noticed I'm not peeing as much, so that could be part of it. I have noticed that I am getting stronger, though, and that is awesome for me! I actually played with my son at the park and didn't get winded or tired. I'm going to start an excercise routine today that incorporates my ski boots/skis so I can find out which muscles I need to work on. If I can get strong enough to pull myself up off the ground and stay in a bent knee position for a decent amount of time, I am going to try skiing again next month. It's been 15 years!  Ya don;t see many 235lb 40-something women on the slopes, so it should be interesting at the least!

(oh yeah, and if that happens, I'll be sure to post some photos!)

Big Red Fancy Hearts to Everyone!

Hey guys, I need some motivation. During the past month I made great progress on my diet, but only 5 weeks into it, I've hit a plateau. I'm still doing great on the diet but have not lost any weight in a week. I've actually gone up a pound and a half.  Pants also not as loose as they were.  Plus, I've been fighting a headache for a few days and a stiff neck, so I'm cranky and don't feel like putting in any effort. I got my hopes up that my 5 lbs/week loss would keep going and that I'd be in the 220's by now. I'm bummed and want to cry.

OMG! I thought that I had some weird addiction, but it seems that others have this problem too. I don't just LOVE beanut butter, I was seriously addicted to it, as in, if I eat it, I need more or else I'm freaking out hungry.

That is why I avoid it alltogether now. It is the ultimate diet killer.

This year, I'm not bringing any junk or candy into the house. We'll go out to eat and I plan to cut the portion in half, skip the butter and bleu cheese dressing, and bring the rest home for my husband to eat for breakfast. I'm saving up some calories to have a glass of wine or two and split a single serving of dessert with my honey.

Hi and welcome. I like this site because it gets me thinking. I don't have messenger either. Check out my profile...I was at almost 255 a month ago and I've already lost 19 lbs! I saw in your profile that you have PCOS, I do too, along with other horrendous medical problems, so I know how hard it is to regulate your weight when your hormones want to keep packin' it on. What kind of program are you doing?

The greatest thing I've found to get me to eat my veggies is to go to the produce stands or grow it myself. When the stuff actually tastes good it's much easier to eat. My way to make unpallatable veggies taste good is to make them into fajitas or BBQ them.
Weight Loss What has worked for you to LOSE +50 LBS???? Feb 06 2007

I've lost 50 + in the past but have always gained it back for some reason or another (mainly pregnancy).

I did it by cutting calories and fat but also eating more often and more fruits and vegetables. I also did Atkins for 2 weeks, lost 10 lbs but felt terrible so went back to the other low fat/lo cal. I bought a treadmill and used it 4-5 times a week. I took thermallift (which has since been banned) and I did a sauna 4x/week. Over the course of about a year, I lost 40, and over a couple years lost about 60. I was not strictly dieting during this time, but just watched what I ate.

Weight Loss let's help each other! Feb 06 2007

The biggest hurdle for me is changing my thinking about what a diet is. I found that looking at the big picture...like your progress over a month rather than a day is a better gauge of success. Being on a diet every day is drudgery. I look forward to what I CAN have rather than what I can't. I also just modify what I normally eat by using the low fat/lo cal substitutions...and, I make myself aware of the portions that are on my plate! I look forward to my cup of coffee in the morning - now taken black instead of white. You know, little stuff like that...it adds up. And we can't beat ourselved up emotionally if we have a day off the wagon...by watching more closely at what we eat for the rest of the week we're right back on track! I'm not an emotional eater, but an addictive eater. Certain foods make me want to eat continuously and do something to my brain to make me not care that I've just eaten 3 days worth of calories standing over my kitchen sink! (Peanuts, butter, heavy cream, pastries, cookie dough) I KNOW these foods will make me feel miserable, so they are now the enemy. Depression is a HUGE Problem for me, and I found that eliminating these "trigger" foods makes me feel so much better. And as far as getting up in the morning...give yourself something to look forward to and only think about accomplishing one small thing for the day...like, taking a shower or doing a load of laundry. I know that a lot of what I feel when I'm depressed is overwhelm. Tackling only one small thing a day gives you that sense of accomplishment in yourself.

Totally depends on how you carry your weight. I've lost 20 lbs so far and have yet to drop a pants size...yet my bras are too big now.

Not really the results I was going for!

Gee, thanks mom. I'm not dieting and (my sister) is like 12 years older than me and also overweight. Glad I'm looking fat AND old!
Weight Loss Slim Fast Feb 06 2007

I have done slim fast several times, all with "success". I would do just the shakes only for 3 days then the 3 shakes a day plus a meal.

They don't have the variety like they used to...pudding, fruit drinks, etc. I considered doing it again when I started my latest diet, but changed my mind when I saw how much sugar and fat it has. I'd rather eat real food with the same amount of calories and fat - and not the sugar and stuff that's in Slim Fast.
Weight Loss the lean cusine diet? Feb 06 2007

I have done it in the past and was successful. However, I wouldn't do it again because of the amount of sodium and fat for the amount of calories in each one. I also prefer the nutrition of whole foods rather than processed ones.

SInce I like the convenience of them though, I make my own. Whenever I cook I try to make extra and put together "meals" to keep in the freezer. That way, I can control the ingredients.

Anyone know of a way to make a low fat/low cal healthy pupusa? (Salvadorean food) Maybe an alternative to the queso or chicharron filling? Is there a "diet" corn flour (masa)?I already fry with minimal olive oil, and eat the encurtido endlessly since it's just veggies.

Thanks for the input!
Recipes How do you make a really low cal pizza? Any ideaz? Feb 03 2007

I do the pita bread or tortilla thing but use a "sauce" made out of ff sour cream, old bay seasoning and stone ground mustard. This sauce is killer with a seafood pizza...shrimp had practically no fat and the same for "krab". Top with green onions, shrimp, krab, and whatever veggies you'd like. I just sprinkle on a little low fat parmesan or mozzarella.

Another yummy alternative to the cheese is to use FF lo cal ricotta cheese mixed into a red sauce.

hey rettmom

The way I get all the fluids I need is by using the same giant cup every day (of course, throwing in the dishwasher every night). I have the cup marked with a sharpie at the 32 oz point. First thing in the morning - before eating, coffee or anything - is taking my fiber and vites one at a time with that 32 0z of water. I don't let myself eat or have coffee until I've finished that cup!

Then, I fill it up again and leave it on the counter. Whenever I walk by it, I take a sip- making sure the whole thing is gone by bedtime. I usually end up adding another 12 oz because I drink it all by the afternoon.

Oh yeah, make sure the water is kind-of warm. Cold water hurts the empty stomach. Also, be sure to leave the cup out where everyone knows not to touch it or dump it out.

Not to scare you... at age 14 you can get chest pains from a condition that is usually not diagnosable until you are in your thirties. I am VERY familiar with this - see my profile - I shared my experience there.

Have any of the doctors said you have a heart murmer?
Weight Loss Anyone ever have or research Weight Loss Surgery? Feb 03 2007
17:57 (UTC)

Yes! I went through the process to have the surgery 3 years ago (tests, couselling, classes, etc.) I was going to have a ruen-Y procedure (classic bypass). One of the things that made me change my mind was the diet and excercise required to not gain the weight back. It was exactly what I knew I should be doin anyway...1 hour walking/day, strength training, several small meals a day- no soda, avoid beef and high sugar foods, etc.

I figured that if I had to live that way after the surgery, it would be better to live that way and not put my body through a surgical procedure that has not been proven to be healthy in the long-term.

My sister in law had the surgery 2 years ago and has alread gone back to her old habits and has gained half the weight back. My other sister in law just had the surgery last monday. I'm actually disappointed in her for not trying to do it without the surgery, but that's her choice. The school secretary at my son's school died last week after the procedure at David Grant Hospital from a blood clot from the procedure.

Is it really worth it? It seems it would be so much easier, and I've even considered getting back in the program, but why put our bodies through something so dangerous and unproven? Wish I could talk to an 80 year old who was successful on the program, then I might be convinced.
Weight Loss can everyone (women) become a size 0 or 2?? Feb 03 2007

I am very small framed but carry most of my weight in the belly and back. At my lowest, I was in the 130's...but still a size 12! The pants waist was too big but I needed a 12 to cover my hips and gut. I was also unfortunately flat chested and had NO butt!

I can't imagine any possible way for me to be a size 4. I'm 5'8". Our family joke is that we were assembled backwards. If the fat on our backs was in front and the rolling gut was in back, we'd look m a h v e l o u s!

Now I' a size 22...a 12 is looking pretty good to me!
