Froth where do you work? I had that kind of breakfast twice with the inlaws AND followed it with eating out. Not going anywhere near a scale till after 2 solid good weeks of healthy eating. Glad to get back to it too-felt like crap all week.

Kallie that's really exciting-did your cousin make it full term with the twins?
Hey LTBD I'm assuming you have big dogs?...We have an elderly newf that at one time weighed in at 187.
I'm trying desperately to get back on track this weekend after having the inlaws here for a fun filled week of eating out 10-yes-10 times in 7 days. Wish me luck....

Weight Loss Burning calories - Just how does it work? Apr 02 2007

Yeah you have to eat back what you burn to make sure you get what the calculator thingy says you need. What I did is use that tool and entered in sedentary even though I am not. Then when I exercise I factor that in so I can eat back those calories so my body doesn't go into starvation mode. I didn't get that concept in the beginning and not only did I not lose, I gained. I also had my RMR checked and it ame in at just under 1400-that is what my body needs to function optimally. So if I work out really hard-say do a good hour of cardio I can burn 400 or so cals. That means I have to eat nearly 1800 cals that day to avoid eating too little. I really get to eat alot on lifting days if I do the usual cardio too. Like last week I burned 300 during cardio and 509 lifting for an hour-so yeah, you can burn 800 or so cals and not have to work out all day. I wear a heart rate monitor that calculates the calories burned for me so I know it is accurate. I am currently 131-132 at 5'2.5". Just make sure you are eating enough. And the point of exercise would be to improve your heart health, bone health, gain muscle (=increased metabolism) and release those endorphins!!!

I think they recommend 25 or so. I usually aim for 35-40 and then drink LOTS of water to make sure the fiber doesn't end up binding me up. The Kashi cereals have lots of fiber-the VIVE one has 12 grams of fiber per serving and is quite good. How much water are you drinking? And make sure to drink extra on the days when you are working out to make up what you lose through sweating and breathing.

YAY! sounds like your off to a great start-keep up the good work! Boy the right gym sure can make all the difference eh? I also enjoy working out with a trainer in my home 1x/wk. Not really moving too quickly on my goal, but feeling way better and gaining muscle. Currently hovering around 131-132 at 5'2.5". My goal is 125-128 depending on how things are fitting and how I feel. At one point I was 115-120 and kept getting hollered at for being too thin, plus it was too hard to maintain.

Have you been getting enough healthy fats in your diet? Maybe try adding a good EPA-DHA supplement to your diet. Also I noticed my skin got HUGELY softer and stayed well moisturized when I started adding almonds to my diet. Just a thought. Ooooooooh santonacci, where do you get the olive oil soap and what kind is it? I currently use goats milk, which I love, but that sounds interesting...
Foods I need a better BUTTER! Apr 02 2007

The partially hydrogenated oil is bad no matter where it is listed in the ingredients. Not too big on preservatives either.
Weight Loss HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN???? Apr 02 2007
08:16 (UTC)
yeah I gained 3# and my weight stayed up for about 6 weeks. I logged every morsel of food, did cardio daily and worked out with a trainer weight lifting one day a week and did another day on my own. I think it stayed up longer cuz it took me a few weeks before I learned that you have to eat back calories burned through exercise so you don't go below you RMR. Now I am 1-1.5 pounds below where I started and my clothes are fitting better. Also my body fat percentage went down. This site is awesome for info-lots of very smart people here! I have really learned so much from them.

I think a good idea for you would be to go by your body fat percentage. With a goal weight of 100-105 I hope you 5'1" or less!

I love butter too-my solution is to eat my butter, just use it judiciously. I figure at least with real butter it's natural with nothing in it that wasn't meant to be. BTW I buy the organic butter cuz I prefer it be hormone free, antibiotic free and from grass fed cows if at all possible. :)

Health & Support should a woman with small breasts weigh less? Mar 24 2007

Ditto I have NO regrets-I also got a pound of extra skin removed from my lower abdomen. While doing the abdomen they repaired my abdominal muscles which was great. Apparently when they separate during pregnancy (and mine did) if you do abdominal work-like crunches-it makes it worse. So you could do crunches 24/7 and not get 6 pack abs.

I found myself doing that a couple of years ago-to the point that I would exercise CRAZY amounts. At least 90 minutes of cardio and 2 DVD's. Some days I would burn over 1000 calories just so I could eat junk I wanted. I was abusing both exercise and food I guess. I already had osteoarthritis and all of this served only to make that worse. Now here I am 2 years later. I put on some weight due to having to stop the compulsive exercise-only about 15 pounds. I have between 2 and 8 more (depending on my mood) that I would like to lose. This time I have learned so much from this website and have ben doing it the right way. I still exercise about 5 days a week, cardio and weights 2x/wk but in "normal" amounts. Be strong guys. Keep logging your food and exercise. I think it is definately ok to workout more if for example you know you are going out for beers that night or have a special dinner as long as the situation doesn't turn into a daily thing like it did with me.

Yeah I have noticed a few things I eat getting grades they don't deserve, and also noticed with the yogurts ones with VERY similar amounts of nutrients had way different grades. I don't put tons of weight in my grade for the day, but at the same time like to keep it A or high B :) .
Motivation OK, so its finally happened to me, 4lbs overnight :( Mar 21 2007

You cannot possible gain 4# over night-not 4# of FAT I mean. Water yes, fat not likely. Could be hormonal, could be sodium intake. Whatever you do, do NOT bury yourself in muffins! Drink lots of water and eat super healthy today and don't let it get you down. I have had that happen many times myself, and things will right themselves. Try to pay more attention to the trend column where you log your weight. Good luck and really, don't let it wreck your day!

The Lounge Tell me about your pet(s) Mar 17 2007

Well, we have lots of pets. 4 dogs-a 9 yr old newfie named Chester, he also responds to Monkey and Monkey-boy, huh Monkeybutt for that matter! Very Very sweet and embarrassed by his large size-he currently weighs about 165, but in his younger days weighed in at 187.
Moving right along we have a shihtzu name Carmen, aka Babygirl and Baybay. She rules the roost weighing in at about 15 pounds. We tell her she's the best cuz she is the only one of the little dogs we fully trust loose in the house when we're gone. That has changed somewhat, but I've digressed......The favorite is Owen, the product of Carmen and "Kitty", our pekengese. He is absolutely adorble and sooooooo cuddley, but he's also a bit nervous, so we joke about him being "scaywed" (scared) all the time. Kitty is our special needs pet-he's a rather defective peke-no full coat and longer legs-thank God, saves on the grooming bill! He will lift his leg if given run of the house, so he is frequenly either tethered by us or we put a gate up at the stairs. We joke about kicking him daily, he just has that look about him.

We also have four bunnies currently in a pen in the basement-Bunbun, Jiggy, MoJo, and Frank. Bunbun came neutered, Jiggy and MoJo just got neutered Thursday, and Franks turn is rapidly approaching. If Carmen has full access to the basement she we spend forever at their pen whining and wanting to assert her "authoritar" to quote Eric Cartmen.

All can be viewed at www.family.metacasa.net
Also have 2 kids, both teens, one of each, 14 and 17. Good Fun!!
