Soup is where it's at!!! Programme on British TV last night, did an experiment with Army Cadets. They were all fed a lunch of Chicken, vegetables and rice with a glass of water. All exactly the same calories. But half of them were given it liquidised as a soup, they then tested their stomachs after 2 hours and 4 hours to see how full they were. The non-soup team had significantly emptier stomachs after 2 hours and after 4 hours were completely empty and 'hungry'. The soup-team were still full after 2 hours and not completely empty after 4 hours - but they'd eaten the same things!! Amazing!

You should be OK to eat back the calories you burn at the gym (ie 1600 if you burn 400). Try it for a few weeks, and see if you still lose 1 or 2lbs a week Good luck! |

| Aw - chatty cats are the best, they're just communicating with you in the same way they see you communicating with humans. I read something once that said cats don't understand doors, that's why they create such a fuss about them. In my old place we didn't have a cat flat and Cilla used to spend ours crying on one side of the door, to have it opened for her and then 2 minutes later crying to get in - apparently she just didn't get why she couldn't have free access. She's find with doors now, just so long as we don't shut them. And mostly I sleep through her chat in the middle of the night. |

| Weight Loss | looking for my 'twins'- or close to it- for motivation/support F35, 5'5 and 180lbs | Aug 03 2007 15:35 (UTC) |

| Hi guys, better late than never but can I join your gang please? I don't often frequent the boards, and spend more time in the journals so have friended you all - hope that's OK (and hope that some of you are journal posters!). About me, I'm 36 (and soooo not happy bout that!), 5ft6 and 180. My starting weight was 216 so feel like I've achieved something - but my problem is keeping it going, more and more lapses are slipping into my diet now. |

| Weight Loss | Question about the weekends.. | Aug 03 2007 15:15 (UTC) |
1 |
| If you think when you get home (when you've had a drink or two, so it's not easy to concentrate) about all the food you've eaten that day you can convince yourself that youre not hungry at all. After-all it's not a real hunger, it's a false-hunger brought on by alcohol. I'm not sure that makes sense as I've written it, but if you can get your head round the 'false-hunger' thing it should stop you snacking on junk late at night. |

| i totally agree with platinum about not buying the stuff in the first place OR if you absolutely can't live without it, get it in pre-packaged portion sizes so you have your single portion then leave it alone. Tried Skinny Cow stick-bars? Brilliant!! |

| Weight Loss | can i lose 11 lbs in 1 month for the prom? | Jul 27 2007 13:56 (UTC) |
4 |
| Well you're not eating enough for sure - what's happened to lunch? You need to keep yourself topped up with energy during the day ESPECIALLY if you're excercising 3 times a week. Go up to 1200 cals a day and spread them throughout the day rather than just one big meal at night and you'll feel better for it and you'll definitely lose the weight. Whether it's 8lbs or 11lb, it's worth doing it healthily as you're more likely to keep it off |

| Fitness | swimming over running... | Jul 10 2007 14:26 (UTC) |

| Hiya, My main exercise has always been swimming I love it and am using to going big distances (even when I was much heavier than I am now). My boyfriends main exercise is running, he loves it and runs marathons for fun. We both feel at our fittest though when we're doing each other's main exercise - go figure! Think it's to do with what you're used to doing and mixing it up a bit, a bit of variety is a good thing! |

| You've got two different messages going on here........ 1. I want the single life back 2. I'd rather be with this new bloke than my husband You can't have both, sounds like you're using the new fella as an excuse to get out of the marriage when you don't need an excuse!! If you want out, tell him and do it but don't fall into the trap of getting hitched to another chap who could be another short-term fix. |

| It hurts, course it does but it's not gonna kill you. Take an energy bar or something with you cos you'll get a sugar-crash right after from the pain-anticipation. I didn't get an infection and just soaked using an egg-cup of warm sea-salt water every day - I still have it, still love it! |

| Fitness | How Important Is Stretching? | Jul 02 2007 16:41 (UTC) |
2 |
| Always stretch after a workout! Warm up slowly as well and put some stretches in early after the first gentle 5/10 minutes. If you develop the same stretching routine and do it again at the end of your workout you'll see how much further you can take the stretch too. I was always taught that if you're only going to do one or the other - you're better off skipping the workout than the stretches. |

| Fitness | How effective is the elliptical | Jul 02 2007 16:22 (UTC) |
10 |
| I'm just migrating off the Eliptical and onto the treadmill and can tell you the workout is MUCH harder on the treadmill but it's more stressful if you're not v fit. I would recommend getting your fitness going on the Eliptical (don't you use your arms on it? How do you read?!), or using it to warm up and then going for short distances on the treadmill as well. |

| Weight Loss | could this be accurate | Jun 29 2007 13:16 (UTC) |
|
| Isn't it better to assume your activity level is lower and then log everything you do? You'll get a more accurate burn rate, and won't over do the cals on the days when you skip out the excercise. (so jealous of that amount of calories - I'd love it if mine was 3000+!!!) |

| Fitness | If you dont eat protien after you work out... | Jun 28 2007 16:25 (UTC) |

| I don't see how it's totally pointless. I'm no expert but I understand that the protein helps to rebuild and tissue damage and recover the muscles - so it's BETTER if you do (but won't kill you if you don't) |

| The Lounge | A question - what is a traditonal dish from your area? | Jun 21 2007 15:48 (UTC) |
18 |
| <LOL at off-topic English words!> I'm from Lancashire, our most famous dish is Lancashire Hot Pot (as served at the Rovers Return), its minced beef, onions and potatos cooked in gravy, topped with slices of potato and baked to a golden brown - served with pickled red-cabbage. Total comfort food. Follow that with an Eccles Cake, which is a squashed ball of currants, wrapped in pastry and sprinkled with sugar. |

| Soup - I'm hooked on soup every lunchtime. I know that whatever soup I pick (and I have a different one everyday), it never takes me over my calorie limit and leaves me feeling full. (just stay away from the creamy ones) |

| Hi fattypuff, A couple of sausages on sticks would be OK to go on top of your salad wouldn't they? It's protein and reasonably low fat (if they're the frankfurter kind - if they're M&S hmm, not so sure!) KC |

| Foods | Need to know how to fix an olive oil based salad dressing. | Jun 04 2007 16:59 (UTC) |

| I tend to use the same amount of oil as the vinegar (one tablespoon of each to serve 2 people). Try adding half a teaspoon of mustard and half a teaspoon of honey as well (this'll need mixing seperately before adding into the salad). Lovely! |
