Weight Loss Anyone in their late 20s?! Jan 06 2008

Hi I'm 26 and weight 170.  I'd like to lose 45 lbs.  I joined CC last Feb. and lost 18 lbs by May... and I have maintained since.  Not by choice, I've been sticking with the diet (but slowed in the exercise).  So I'm really trying to hit it hard again.  With the exercise.  I'm having a breast reduction surgery in Feb. where I figure I'll lose about 7 lbs just from what they remove, but would like to be 10 lbs lighter by then.

I currently live in Overland Park, on the Kansas side of the KC metro.  However, I lived on the Missouri side for most of my life, and I currently work in KC, MO.

I travel through Missouri all the time, this weekend I'm heading down to Steelville for a float trip.  Hopefully for a dry weekend down in southern Missouri.

I was a petite teenager, I weight about 110 when I graduated high school.  I gained the Freshman 15 my first year, and probably another 15 each year after that.  Then I got a desk job, and gained another 20 or so lbs.  During this time I was disgnosed with arthritis, so my activity level dropped a lot too.

I've finally found drugs that work for my arthritis, and am starting to exercize in addition to eating better.  The site has helped me lose almost 20 lbs so far, but I have a ways to go still.

I too have had arthritis since I was a teenager.  This past January I started a new treatment called Remicade that has made me feel like a whole new person, and I'm finally able to start exercising.  Before that, I was prednisone, which caused me to gain a ton of weight.  Okay enough about me. =)  I recommend trying an elliptical machine because it's the easiest piece of equipment I have found on the joints.  Also, you might focus more on doing weights since there is less repetition, and muscle burns calories.  My other advice is to just break your exercise up into different segments during the day.

I'm 5'2" and my starting weight in February was 188.  Now I am joining the 160's group at 169, after two months in the 170's.  It's about freaking time!

I'd love to be in the 150's going into Aug. maybe even a little sooner if at all possible. We'll see how that goes though...

I went on a cruise a month ago and my experience was that while I intended on working out everday, I only made it there once.  However the cruise ship had a "walk a mile" activity twice a day, where you walked laps on the ship.  My husband I did it at least twice a day, but not always with the organized group.  Also, the ports are great places to get fun exercise from walking and hiking.

I made sure I never took desert twice in one day, and tried to limit to every other day.  My goal was to not gain weight, which I succeded at.  I've been at the same weight ever since I got back though, but that's a rant for another post.

Good luck!

Praises: 4 out of 10 days of the vacation I walked 7-9 miles, and I walked about 1 mile the rest of the days.  At least I was doing something healthy... because I sure wasn't eating healthy!

I started CC by doing the special K diet to help me get into diet mode.  It lasted about 3 weeks, and then I just try and keep the same calorie amount for breakfast and lunch, but in different ways.  So it was a good way to "shrink" my stomach.

I was 171.8 this morning!  One of my mini goals was to be at or under 170 by the time I left for my cruise.  I leave May 5th, so that gives me a little more than a week to get off the last 1.8 lbs.  If I lose at the same rate I have been, I'll be close to my goal, but maybe with a little luck and a little extra effort I'll be there.

Then the real challenge will be maintaining that weight on the cruise, so I don't have to lose it again (plus the other 48 lbs I need to lose) when I get back!

What has been your biggest frustration in these 4 weeks?

At first it was just sticking to the diet.  I've been getting creative with my food, and got a low calorie cookbook I pick 3 recipes from each week to try, just so I'm not eating the same things each week.

What behavioral modifications will help you conquer this frustration and turn it into a success?

I joined a gym and got a personal trainer (sort of!) which has helped a lot!  I've also started taking TV dinners to work for lunch, so I'm saving some money AND eating fewer calories

Will you commit to these steps that you outlined above to yourself and this board?!

Of course!
Weight Loss Calorie Count Vs. Weight Watchers Apr 20 2007

The reason I was more successful at CC is because I was accountable everyday.  WW has the extra points (I don't remember the exact term) and you can float points around some.  With CC, if I don't hit my total calories for today, I know I can't use them tomorrow or else I probably wont lose tomorrow.  I actually weigh myself everyday, so the weekly weigh In's didn't make a difference.  Also, I think this community is a much better support group than WW was.

I may be more motivated this time than I was in the past.  Before I was like "I'd like to lose 20ish lbs for now, and the rest later" now I'm like "I'm going to try and lose all 65 lbs this year!" which is more long term of a goal.

measuring isn't working for me either.  I'm down 15 lbs and the most I've lost from anywhere is a 1/2 inch.

I think they are both pretty much the same thing.  They both are restricting what you eat.  I think weight watchers takes fat and carbs into account when assigning points, but I've been much more successful with CC than WW.  Like you it took me 6 months to lose 15 lbs with WW, but it only took me 2.5 months to do the same thing with CC.

I resolve to get 30 min of cardio in 4 times this week.  Even if I have to make 2 trips to the gym to do it.

I work in mortgage servicing, which means I deal with loans after they have closed.  So I sit at a desk all day, and work out of my email.  Oh, and my department loves to eat.  We order breakfast usually 3 times a week, and order out lunch at least 2 times a week.  Plus we have food days almost every 2 weeks it seems like.  All of this food has a lot to do with my weight gain over the past 4 years.  Of course it's my self control that got me there, so I'm working on it.  I never order with the group, and try and bring something healthy on food days.

What did you do a great job at this week?

I added more weights into my routine.  I also brought frozen dinners for my lunches at work, rather than try and eat healthy out.

What could you improve on in week 2?

more weight training, and try and get out of the house to exercise more.  My weight room gets so boring sometimes, and there are only so many Friends episodes to watch while I work out.

Goals for Next Week:

Only eat out for lunch once a week, like I did last week.  Or when I do go out, just get water and be social.   I?d love to lose another pound this week.

I am a Royals and Red Sox fan, and actually was at the Dice K debut.  It was a great game, even though the Royals lost, and there was some good pitching on both sides.  Much to my husband's dismay since he doesn't like baseball to begin with, so he didn't feel like there was much "action."  It being 38 degrees out and windy didn't help much either.

katyayer - try to include them in your routine.  If the weather is nice, suggest a walk after dinner.  Or if there are kids around, take them to the park and play with them... always a good workout.  I have to do these things to trick myself into exercize, so I don't feel like it is work anyway.

What did you do a great job at this week? Exercising, we set up our workout room and I was able incorporate yoga and some weights with my elliptical.

Goals for Next Week:
Actaully lose weight!  I pretty much stuck to 1200 calories, I had a "cheat" day with 1600.  So I need to up my time of cardio a little and hope I lose next week.
