| Weight Loss | Help with "low-carb" questions, please. | Oct 01 2008 16:46 (UTC) |

I found it easier to think in terms of portions rather than daily percentages. I eat three portions of breads and cereals a day and that has helped me lose 10 lbs in a month. A serving consists of a piece of bread, 1/2 to 3/4 cup of cereal or oatmeal, one tortilla, one cob of corn, 1/2 cup of pasta or rice... you get the idea. And no bread/cereal/cracker as snacks, only with a meal. I'd say I was eating two to three times this amount before even when I thought I was keeping my carb count down, so it's been tough but made a huge difference. I allow myself one portion at breakfast and usually "save" the other two for dinner. So far so good! |

| Foods | Non-carb options for dipping? | Sep 07 2008 00:01 (UTC) |

Sorry, yes, didn't think I'd have to be so specific about what I was looking for. Before I changed how I was eating, I'd use crackers or corn chips or bread sticks or melba toast or things like that for dipping and I'm trying to cut those things out. Um, so is "bread-like, flour or corn-based processed foods" a better description of what I'm trying to avoid? Cabbage for dipping -- never would have thought of that one! Exactly the sort of thing I was looking for! |

Just a suggestion, but have you tried drinking green tea instead of taking the supplement? Counts toward your daily water consumption, fills you up, gives you a little caffeine boost -- it's just about a perfect mid-afternoon treat. Zero calories and I've heard it will boost your metabolism to burn the equivalent of 100 or so extra calories a day. I try to drink one 16 oz cup a day. |

I'm so so sorry for your loss. As mentioned above, it takes a while for your body to adjust after losing a pregnancy. I had a m/c two years ago at 16 weeks, and I'd gained about 10 lbs during the pregnancy, and gained another five or so after I lost the baby. It took me almost five months to get back to my prepregnancy weight. It's horribly frustrating, I remember. But it will come off. Hugs to you! |
