i have seen silken tofu used in many dishes where eggs might have been used, such as vegan quiches and fritattas. looking through my vegan with a vegence cookbook i see:

cauliflower-leek kugel with almond herb crust
fresh corn fritters
matzo ball soup

check out theppk.com for lots of tofu vegan recipes.

if you cant find any of those recipes on your own, message me and ill give them to you.

good luck!
Vegetarian Do you feel lighter Jun 20 2008

im sure someone would say it sooner or later, but 1000 calories is not really considered enough by any nes judgement. maybe thats why you feel lighter? because you are waaaayyy below maintence and into the rhelm of survival?

i am vegan, and at first i definitly felt lighter, but now that im used to it its like anything else, but i do feel cleaner and more satisfied with my meals. i feel clean. which is kind of like light.

Vegetarian excited to be vegan! Apr 08 2008

i know a lot of vegans who are overwieght for some reason, in fact a lot of them are. i also know some very fit vegans not overweight at all. being vegan is just like any other way of eating, there are good foods and bad foods. its almost jsut as easy to be unhealthy while vegan, if you ate lots of processed foods and sweets when you werent vegan, chances are youll do the same when you are. i was wondering about this too, because i didnt want to gain weight like some of the people i know.

i tihnk some of it has to do with psycology, because you may feel like you are depriving yourself of so many things that you should be able to eat so many other things. of course, this isnt true, because calorie and fat wise, a vegan piece of cake or a cookie is the same as a regular one, its just not evil! i tihnk the trick is to understand that a vegan diet is the way of the future, not for weightloss, but for health and sustainability, and it should be treated as any other way of eating in terms of weightloss and healthiness.

i think the way that vegans are associated with being thin is because food is not often available for them when it is available for others, so if they are not responsible for themselves or dont know how to nourish themselves, then they would naturally lose weight.

my two cents are in about over weight vegans!

because animal cruelty is the root of how corrupt the food industry is.
because free-range doesnt mean your food was happy,
because all the brothers of the chickens who lay the eggs that you eat were literally smushed to death because they are useless to the industry,
because your milk is probably full of puss from overworked cows nipples, because the only way for any of that to change is for you to change it.
if you cant go out to a pasture full of happy roaming cows and get your milk there, then there is no way you will know that it isnt cruel. you cant trust the food industry.
even if you beleive it is natural to rely on animals, as do i, the way in which we do it now is far from natural, and now we have to go to extreme seeming measures to change that.

those are a few of my reasons. that website is also pretty convincing.

Weight Loss What does hungry feel like? Mar 10 2008
22:45 (UTC)

i know when i am hungry because it is a distinct physical sensation. my stomache hurts and growls and feels very empty. sometimes i also get irratiable when i am hungry, but i dont eat when i am just irratable, because it doesnt define hunger, it is just a side affect. you should know you are hungry because your stomache is growling!

hungry doesnt mean you want food, it means you need it. make a distinction between "i feel munchy" and "i feel hungry". if you feel munchy, withhold eating all together, or have something very small and healthy to satisfy you mind, munchy is all in your head. if you are hungry, then rejoice and eat a meal. i love beng hungry, because then you get to eat and not feel guilty at all for you are doing your body good.

if this is a problem, then only eat at meal times, because chances are you will be hungry three times a day 4 hours apart. thats why there are traditions developed around when to eat; because they work in time with your body. take into account that well developed system. like in spain, they eat a small breakfast of fruit or toast when they wake up, but then have a big sit down lunch with multiple courses between 11 and 2. tehn they dont eat dinner until 9 or 11. not sayng thats ideal, there are different tradions all over the world deprending on the lifestyle. its sort of an interesting hand book for eating habits if you look at the cultures around the world.

good luck!
Weight Loss Cheat Days??? Mar 04 2008
00:33 (UTC)
10
"cheat" days work out well if you zig zag your calories. that means perhaps you ate 1000 calories one day, so then you can eat more the next. this is supposed to be good, because it keeps your body guessing. also, then you know how much you can cheat. for instance, on fridays, i can eat 1900 calories, but on tuesdays only 1000. but it works out, because fridays i go out to dinner with my friends, and tuesdays i have 3 classes and am too busy to get distracted by food. thats my two sense.
Weight Loss Emotional Eater Club Feb 13 2008

i want to join the club! i didnt realize why i always felt so out of control of my eating, because i dont always eat too much and im not overweight, but it is always weighing on me. i realized recently its because my emotions control my eating, not dinner time snack time or hunger. its just whenever i feel like i need it. and it makes me feel guilty and axious to be out of control.

i just started zig zagging today. it was a low day so it was kinf of hard, but i just ate my last bite for the night and i am right where i want to be. i kept myself sane with a skinny cow fudge pop. if i get any more cravings its water and tea!
Health & Support I feel like I'm going insane from this diet! Feb 12 2008
20:56 (UTC)

no, this isnt at all natural. dieting should be about eating healthy, not about an insane amount of control. no matter weather you are trying to lose weight or what, food should always be enjoyable, and not cause you anxiety. of course this isnt always the case, espeically for people who are trying to lose weight, but that mindset is very unhealthy and probably going to make you very depressed, it looks like it has already.

i would suggest changing your habits gradually, i dont know how much of a habit this is. i would try to eat meals with friends, and to order or eat things you like. if its not too healthy than share it with a friend, if it is, then enjoy it and know that your body i thanking you.

also prepackaged foods arent very good for you, especailly if its all you eat. you dont need to know the calories down to the last one, calorie counting is still very effective even when it is estimated. stop letting this consume you- it is not good to develope these habits about food, food is supposed to be a family thing, a social thing, a cultural thing. dont get lost in the idea of controlling your food so strictly.

good luck, dont let the diet eat you!

with things like bagels, dougnuts and regular name brand candy, i find it easy to turn myself off it because i know it will always taste the same-if i am going to indulge i much prefer something new or exceptional, not some dunkin doughnuts that will always, while they are tasty, taste the same, or some low quality chocolate that make my throat feel all clogged up. they just arent the best you can do for an indulgence, and they will always be there is you change you mind, you arent missing a once in a lifetime the most delicious thing in the world event. and i would never suggest missing out on the most delisous thing in the world-ever!

im starting at 130 and my goal weight has always been 120. i went down a few pounds, then up a few, but the conclusion is i simply cannot lose weight. i bike everywhere I go; probably 6 miles every 5-6 days. i take a yoga and a dance class- aside from yesterday, i had never cheated on my diet. (yesterday was an awful story-i had too many smirnoff ices and i didnt estimate they would be nearly that high-went 800 cals over!) i zig zag my calories with an average of 1400 a day- but i NEVER lose weight! i definitly share your 10 pound goals, and would be glad to help keep eachother motivated.

a tsp of salt will not add that much soduim and granola simply needs salt. go for the salt.

a .5 cup serving of this is 250 calories. if you remove the peanuts it becomes 157 calories.

Recipes solution to soggy sandwiches?! May 17 2007

i have a few tips for this:

-the night before, wash and cut up all your vegetables and put them in a tupperware with a papertowel at the bottem. when you make your sandwich in the morning, they will not be wet enough to make your sandwich soggy.

-also, wash a leaf of lettuce and make sure its REALLY dry, and line all of the bread with it. then place the ingredients over the lettuce so none of them touch the bread.

good luck!
Foods Question about raw sweet potatos May 17 2007

well, the texture and taste is completely different to me, and i dont think i would enjoy a raw one, but i dont think its harmful. i mean its going from crunchy and dry to moist, soft and sweet. i dont think it would hurt you, but i dont think they would taste the same.

i have a hard time believing that fruit is stalling your weight loss, especially because it is low calorie and full in nutrients. i suppose it couldnt do any serious damage to cut it out for a week, but i definitly wouldnt do it for a long time. good luck, lets keep in touch about the zig zagging. tomorrow i only get to eat 1000 calories...i hope ill make it!

pinthin- i am excersizing a lot, but i always do, i didnt change anything about my excercise. i excercise 5 days a week, 3 at the gym and the other two are yoga and dance classes. that totals a burn of about 1700 cals a week. i also ride my bike about 6 miles almost everyday, because it is my transportation.

the site i used gave me a schedule for "extreme fat loss" and "normal fat loss". the normal one seemed too high and the extreme one was way below what is considered healthy, so i made up my own schedule. it averages out 1400 cals a day, which gives a weekly deficit of 3800.

here is how i am eating: Mon- 1000 Tues-1400

Wed-1100

Thurs-1300 Fri-1800 Sat- 1400

Sun-1600

fluctuating like that is really normal though, yesterday at the gym i was 128 but the day before i was 127. i know how you feel though. prom is this friday, so i have to be super good this week so i dont accidentally gain a few pounds. good luck, and i like zig zagging, it is fun because you dont always feel like you are dieting.

epicurious.com has breat cake recipes, but heres the links to some that i have tried and loved (i bake a lot of cakes):

BOCA NEGRA CHOCOLATE CHIPOTLE CAKES http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/recipe_view s/views/109233

CHOCOLATE HEART LAYER CAKE WITH CHOCOLATE-CINNAMON MOUSSE (this one is amazing, and it doesnt have to be heartshaped) http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/recipe_view s/views/107716

DOUBLE CHOCOLATE TORTE (simple and SO decadent, but not your typical birthday cake) http://www.epicurious.com/recipes/recipe_view s/views/104512

and this is one that i created for a friend who is crazy about peanut butter and chocolate, have had many requests for it at future parties:

Black Bottom Peanut Butter Mousse Cake (graham crackers crust with chocolate layer and then peanut butter mousse layer and then chocolate topping)

Filling: 1 18-ounce jar creamy peanut butter (2 cups) 2 8-ounce packages cream cheese, room temperature 2 cups powdered sugar 2 tablespoons vanilla extract 2 cups chilled whipping cream

Topping and black bottom: 1 cup whipping cream 1/2 cup sugar 2 tablespoon instant espresso powder 12 ounces bittersweet (not unsweetened) or semisweet chocolate, coarsely chopped 2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Crust: 7 whole graham crackers, coarsely broken 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, melted 2 tablespoons sugar

For Crust and Black Bottom: Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray 9-inch-diameter glass pie dish with nonstick spray. Blend graham crackers, melted butter, and 2 tablespoons sugar in processor until moist clumps form. Press crumb mixture over bottom and up sides of prepared pie dish. Bake crust until lightly browned, about 15 minutes.

For topping and black bottom: Combine cream, sugar and espresso powder in heavy medium saucepan. Stir over medium heat until espresso powder and sugar dissolve and mixture comes to simmer. Remove from heat. Add chocolate and whisk until melted and smooth. Whisk in 2 teaspoons vanilla. cool topping slightly. pour half of the chocolate onto the baked crust and refridgerate until cooled.

For filling: Using electric mixer, beat peanut butter and cream cheese in large bowl to blend. Add powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons vanilla extract and beat until well blended. Using clean dry beaters, beat 2 cups whipping cream in medium bowl until stiff peaks form; fold into peanut butter mixture in 4 additions. Spoon filling into prepared crust.

Spread the rest of the chocolate topping evenly over filling. Refrigerate cake until cold, about 4 hours. (Can be prepared 2 days ahead. Cover cake and keep refrigerated.) Serve cake chilled.

-Hope this helps, if you want any more, recipes..i have more, tried and true.

once for a special breakfast i did a baked apple (with brown sugar, butter, cinnamon, oats and vanilla) topped with maple yogurt. its a little decadent, but not so bad. another of my favorites is a heart shaped egg in a hole- just use a heart cookie cutter to cut the whole in the bread instead of a cup. heart shaped anything is actasully pretty nice--pancakes, french toast...
