| Weight Loss | Scale Rituals | Oct 14 2007 18:40 (UTC) |

I have to say, I've loved reading the posts on this thread as I now realize I am not as crazy as I and my husband think I am. We have a "doctor's scale" and it is 100% accurate. I weigh myself once a week, but may begin to do it more often as I see people seem to have more success losing when they do so. The ritual: Make sure I have been "very good" for at least 5 days before weigh in. Perform unnecessary weight deletion in bathroom first thing upon waking. Brush teeth, wash face, drying thoroughly. Proceed to bedroom where "it" lives and step on. On this scale you have to manually transfer the heavier weight "100" and the lighter weight the "tens, twenties, thirties, forties, etc". So the window shade must be up for enough light or the lights have to be on, neither of which I particularly enjoy. So the "100" weight is set and then the moment of truth as the lower numbers are set. The scale then proceeds to determine whether I am, morose or elated that day. |

Thanks everyone! I am doing leg presses and riding a bike. I was already pretty strong doing lunges, squats, leg extensions, leg curls, calf raises with weights. It is the lateral side of my knee, so all your advice was really good. Cheers, Natasha

There are yoga stretches that are very helpful for this. I've been running since I was 18, I am now 47, 48 in September. I run every day, 5-6 miles per run and it is a MUST for me to do yoga before I run. I cannot tell you how it has saved my body. There are specific asanas, poses, for stretching the PF. Here is a link: http://www.yogajournal.com/practice/636_1.cfm Hope this helps.

You are not eating enough protein, fat or vegetables/fruts. No wonder your body is holding on to eavery last pound in order to preserve itself. Check out what some of the most lean and beautiful bodies eat to get and stay that way on www.bodybuilding.com, go to the women's section and check out the articles for fitness and figure models. Not only do they eat 5 to six times a day, they eat tons of healthy food. Did you know your muscles need food? Not to mention your major organs. Hope this helps!

Go to www.bodybuilding.com and there are a million great weight routines and information on how to get REALLY LEAN. You will be shocked at how the figure models and fitness competitors look vs. how much they weigh on the scale! The scale doesn't tell you diddly. It's just a number. I'm 47, 5'6",wear a size 2 and weigh 132lbs.

You are 5'9" and weigh 137 which is a normal weight for your height. The weight you desire to be at is lower than the average. Your diet is low in protein and calories, therefore physiologically, just in order to survive, your body will try to preserve itself by not letting go of any weight. Also do you know your body composition? For example: How much fat % your body has, is it 30%, 20%, 15% ? How much lean mass? That is, how much muscle is on your body. You can find out by going to a gym and getting the fat measured, or a nutritionist might be able to do that. The number on the scale doesn't really tell you much about what is really going on with the body. The more dense your muscle mass is the higher your metabolism.

Yogi tea makes an incredible tea called "Get Regular" It can be found in a health food store or really good supermarket or drugstore that sells "natural, organic" stuff. Anyhow, the tea is very gentle and works like a charm. Make sure you allow the tea bag to steep at least 5 minutes so that the good herbs get released. Good luck!

Hi There, Here's one more bit of advice. Start liftiing weights, forget the itty bitty two and three pound ones. Start with 5 to 8 lb. ones and check out the simple routines on www.fitnessmagazine.com. When you build muscle you can completely reform the way your body looks, and metabolizes food. Yes it is that amazing. You can build yourself a beautiful body, do the weight workouts 3 times a week and cardio 3 days and you will be AMAZED. Throwing up and dieting deplete muscle which is how your body burns FAT! I am 47 years old an dliving proof that this is the secret to anti-aging. Good luck sweetheart and God speed!

Hi, I can totally relate and commiserate. How old are you? I am 47, 5'6" with a medium frame and have been stuck between 132 and 130 for 2 1/2 months! One issue is that although I'm a runner, I did not run for about a month, that's 447 calories I did not burn 5 days a week. I broke a toe and then got a nasty flu, so that's where that month went. In the past I restricted my calories too much, it's never been a problem for me to eat 800 to 900 calories, back in college I ate about 500 to 700 calories a day and weighed 104 lbs. Not very healthy. This is a sensible program, the caloric amount recommended is healthy, so the solution is caloric expenditure. More calories out, and an extra 15 minute walk here, a 10 minute walk there, 15 minutes doing weight lifting. It all adds up. What is necessary is to create a caloric deficit. I agree with suzigirl too, sodium. Anytiime there is too much salt 3 to 5 lbs. "magically" appear. Keep up the good work and try to fit in a couple of exercise breaks in during the day.

You need to first ask yourself if you have a specific taste you'd like to have. For me, it's always chocolate. I know, I know, but I am a chocoholic and eat at least 150 calories of chocolate to be happy. I never eat anything, ff, or artificial. It's always organic, fair trade. So dessert: meringue anything, sometimes I use stevia to sweeten with. Fruit: frozen, baked, sauteed or poached with juice, alcohol(it burns off after a few minutes) or by itself. Example: Spray a pan with oil, saute a banana until edges brown, top with a little melted chocolate. You can do this with almost any fruit. Add a squeeze of orange juice and voila! Have a cookie, really. Make yourself some dough, divide it up into single servings, figure out how many calories you can afford and bake only the one serving for yourself. Yum! Terrific with hot no-calorie tea. Ice cream shake: Freeze non fat yogurt 'til semi hard, toss into a blender, add some frozen berries, a little stevia and blend. If too thick add some water, If too thin add some ice, use flavorings, go crazy; try banana, almond, anise, chocolate and coconut extracts. If you're like me, you must have chocolate. Take the 1 or 1/2 cup non fat yogurt, freeze, sweeten, add frozen peaches or pears and cocoa powder. Whirl in the blender until you have the desired shake consistency. Fabulous.
