Weight Loss Countless failures, starting over once again. Apr 22 2008
18:35 (UTC)

I don't know if it will help, but I've had bad luck of trying this new technique of eating and thinking.  I have been so busy making excuses not to start, perhaps you will have better luck with Paul McKenna's "I can make you thin" series on TLC.  I like the idea of learning how to eat and listening to my body, but omg an hour show has a message of maybe 15 minutes and is dragged out painfully.  Maybe you can find it on youtube.com or something if it's not available at the above site, but his techniques seem logical.  I'm still working on the 4 rules of eating, which is not dieting.

Motivation should you eat after a late night binge? Apr 22 2008
18:10 (UTC)

The reason why we binge is because we haven't eaten enough or we haven't gotten enough water through-out the day.  It's our body's way of trying to survive.  Try eating more healthy meals (pack in the veggies & fruit) frequently through out the day and 8 glasses of water.  When you binge, it is because your body needs something.  Emotional binging is different. If you haven't gotten enough fluid that day, you're body will do anything to get more water, even tell you that you are hungry.  Not only should drinking water help with the binge late night eating, it will help you look younger for longer.  You are born with a certain amount of water in your cells and through out life, you lose this water in your cell.  You cannot replace it! Older people who are very wrinkly are usually dehydrated (smoking & substance abuse will make it even worse).

I also agree with the others, water retention varies.  Try to weigh yourself less, perhaps once a week or twice a month.

Foods Low calorie alternatives to daily foods? Jul 05 2007

It would have to depend on the type of cheese, it's fat content, and the quantity you add to the potato.  I myself love a red baked potato with1/2 cup broccoli and an ounce of cheddar (about 350 cal).

If you stay with in your safe calorie allowance, then you are doing great.  Eating every 3 hours helps to boost your metabolism, you don't need to have a 3 course meal, something like yogurt & a piece of fruit can be considered a meal.  Don't starve yourself!!

This isn't a diet, it's a way of life.  Don't go overboard, and don't expect a get slim quick deal, losing 5lbs a month is realistic and you will more likely keep it off.  Definately get some more exercise, it's a good habit to get into now while you are young instead of when you are 50 and HAVE to do it.  I was reading this morning, that it is recommended to exercise 30 min as soon as you wake up with a cardio workout.  It helps burn off the fat (instead of your breakfast), and boosts your metablolism for the day.

I agree with nycgirl, ask your doctor.  They don't always give you a plan, but might give you a beginning outline and example of what you need to do to start at your age/current situation.  My doctor recommended 1800 calories a day, but then again I was 80lbs over weight, high cholesterol and high blood sugar.
Foods Drained tuna? Jul 05 2007

I never liked tuna in oil, it so heavy.  I use the tuna pouches with water, no draining needed and I only add a spoon of mayo and extra onions.  I enjoy it plain on top of my salad.

For 3 oz, eating it in oil (drained) adds 69 calories, which is comparable with a tbsp (50 cal) of light mayo (D-) except you get to keep your score in the B- group so you save 19 cal, unless you like more mayo in your tuna.

I usually water/weight, sometimes up to 4lbs, maybe due to the fact that it may last up to a week, aaaarrg.  If I could only stay away from salty stuff, lol at that time.
Weight Loss Help with Losing Facial Fat Jul 05 2007

I've always had a fat face, even when I was a size 5.  The only thing that I ever found to be a down side to it was that I looked so young.  I was getting carded until I hit 30...so I've come to terms with it now.

You said you started working out, muscle adds weight and burns more calories...so I have to agree with everyone else, you have an eating disorder/self esteem issues maybe.  If you try eating more and gain weight (on a monthly basis, not daily), then worry.  Otherwise you said you eat very healthy, so you can afford to eat some more.

Good Luck with accepting that you cannot change how young you look or your bone structure and knowing that when you're 50, you'll be just as lean (becaue you have healthy eating habits) and look 10+ years younger.

Good Luck Everyone!!  I'll be aiming for 750 again.  I was going to go for 900, but we're going on vacation...so It'll have to wait til I get back and work up the nerve, lol.

I wish I could help you out in July as a time keeper, but I will be gone 2 weeks out of the month.  I'll be checking in where free wifi is available but not regularly.  Probably won't be back until Aug 2/3 but will be able to help as long as it's ok I'm late. Thanks, again.

Motivation I can't forget his insult - can you advise? May 30 2007

I hadn't read that part of it dgny123, I had only thought he made a statement.  He was probably testing how much abuse you'd take from him.  Some men like girls with no self esteem so they can control and abuse them.

I'd rethink being set up by this friend that referred the jerk to you.  You want some companionship, not a restraining ordered.

I guess what doesn't kill you does make you stronger.  Take the positive from it and use it to your advantage.  You need to do this for you, BUT it's nice to have a motivational tool ... aka the jerk.

Sorry I misunderstood, but I still meant everything else...use the truth to keep yourself strong and honest.  And listen to doc2bmo, it's about you loving yourself.  Once you learn to do that, everything else should follow.  Take Care

Hello, I'm going to have to be the odd woman out...

If he was just saying it to be an asshole, why would he try to make it up to you and apologize?

Everyone always pretends nothing wrong.  Everyone tip toes around everyone to not hurt anyone's feelings.  It's ok as long as you feel good!! Bullshit, it was an honest response (maybe he even surprised himself with it).  Probably more honest than anyone you love would tell you.  "You're perfect just the way you are" bullshit. If we were all perfect, if we were estatic about what we looked like, we wouldn't be here.

I don't know what his tone was, but maybe it was genuine.  Yes, it hurt your feelings (truth usually does) but did he mean it to hurt you or to tell you how guys think, to try to help you see it's not your personality it's men's shallowness?

We're you overly defensive? Was his apology authentic? Why castrate him for giving you an honest answer just because you don't like the answer?  I didn't know we were looking for robots, if you think he was being mean...kick him to the curb.  If you're too embarassed that his honesty hit a nerve, kick him to the curb and make it an untrue statement.

In a way, he helped you.  Those creul words got you here, because you knew it was true, you knew no asshole was going to tell you how your life is and now you see that your life is in your hands.

sigh...ok hate me now, I'm a Fat Old Lady (36 - 5'1" - 208lbs) waiting to get hate mail...I don't want to be fat, I don't want to be old, but I am and I'm doing my best to make it untrue and no matter what I need to learn to love myself and this is how I do it...the truth.

dbackerfan...no need to apologize for anything.  It is in one's nature to complain, I hope the stress in your life finds peace with you and that everyone remembers that this is a community and are thankful for any gift small or large that is given to us and hopefully given back.

Volunteers rock, lemme know if you need a timer should you decide to keep your mission or pass my name along.

Take care & be well
