Thanks everybody for your ideas and input. Sometimes I have to remind myself that food is not the enemy, and it is designed to be enjoyed (everything in moderation). There are some things I still have to be extra careful about because it's just too tempting to have 'just one more 1/2 a piece....'

I'm close to 5'11", and was not able to lose until i 'upped' my calories to 1500 and added regular exercise into my schedule. Then the pounds came off - very slowly (about 1 per week and a half), but consistently. |

I click on the "analysis" tab of my daily calories, as much as I do with the straight number log. My goal is to keep the ratio at FAT 30%/PROTEIN 20%/CARBS 50%. (I also try to make sure the 30% fat is the good kind of fat - not transfat). I've read that a lot of people keep the fat ratio even lower, probably not lower than 20 unless you have health reasons for it. So if I know there's chocolate cake on the horizon for dinner, I'll really be careful to keep the fat numbers extra low, earlier in the day. |

| Weight Loss | I've been doing this for two weeks and am not losing any weight | Feb 26 2008 21:06 (UTC) |

| Hang in there. I had the same experience starting out and didn't see results until I added in REGULAR exercise (like the Leslie Sansone DVD's or walking at the mall). Even then, weight loss was slow, about 1/2 pound a week. I kept reminding myself that my goal was better health habits for a lifetime instead of fast weight loss. Those 1/2 pound losses each week add up! | |||

Thanks for the comments. Like you said, I think the keys are in moderation, enjoying reasonable portions of a reasonable dessert (maybe a little more extravagant once in a great while:) Food was meant to be enjoyed, but not to abuse yourself with. |

Hey, I just want to encourage you and say, "Way to go!". I'm 44 and am new to the whole exercise and diet routine (in the last year). When I was younger it wasn't a huge issue, but the last few years the fat just stays with me. I tried everything I could to manipulate the calories to lose weight - UNSUCCESSFULLY. It wasn't until I added in regular exercise that I started to see some results. I'm shooting for a lifestyle change, so I do 30 min. of an aerobic exercise every other day; and some sort of strengthening workout on the off days (I take Sundays off). All of it together helps my metabolism and long term health; but some extra aerobic helps the weight loss a little more. As for calorie intake, I agree you need a bit more for your exercise days. Hang in there and keep it up! |
