| Health & Support | those japanese people... | Jul 26 2008 00:58 (UTC) |

| I'm half japanese half english, 5'5/6, and weigh about 54kg at the moment. I spend half my time in japan and half my time in england. Its actually shocking how small the food portions can be here. I went to a restaurant and ordered a pizza and it it was smaller than a kids pizza would be in england!! However i see a lot of japanese women around here in tokyo who are ridiculously skinny, bones popping out everywhere, so i think eating disorders are quite a problem here. The thing is, there is a huge amount of unhealthy food here. Sure everyone thinks the japanese are skinny cos they eat rice and seafood... but that is so not true, every 5 steps there is a crepe stand offering fillings with huge amounts of cream, cheesecake and ice cream, and in the convenience stores there are stacks and stacks of breads, cakes, and doughnuts filled with cream.... i don't know whats going on...! |

| Health & Support | Has anyone gone for 48+ hours without sleep? | Jun 12 2008 22:15 (UTC) |

| yep i had to to stay up to finish my phtoography coursework last year, i stayed up for about 65 hours... in those 65 hours I went to the gym twice for an hour, at about 6 in the morning, then carried on my day as normal and then spent all night up and about, cutting and sticking in... at the end of all that we went to a good charlotte concert and i ended up spending all of it in a circle pit being bashed a fair bit... then finally got home and went to sleep for about 6 hours, when i had to get up again to go to school!! for most of it i was ok, every few hours i'd get really tired, and almost hallucinated like i was high or something!! |

| Weight Loss | What kind of "eater" are you ? | May 29 2008 22:50 (UTC) |

| my sister is a non-eater. She can eat like a tiny bit and say 'i'm full with absolutely no regrets' Most of the time I'm not like that. I eat out of boredom. However, if I am very nervous or incredibly happy, then i lose my appetite.... i lost like 2kg in like 4 days cos i couldn't eat from an overwhelming amount of nerves and happiness... clearly I gained it back, but just saying..! =D |

| Health & Support | It looks like a scar from hip-to-hip, but it's not..so what is it?! | May 20 2008 13:56 (UTC) |
|
| i have that too... like, i have a relatively flat stomach, but there is a line which looks like where the skin folds if i had lots of fat... i think for me though its cos i had appendicitis, and although the scar is only like an inch and a half long, the dent in my skin stretches across my tummy if that makes sense. | |||

| My family is all quite healthy. My mom barely eats anything, and its mainly rice and vegetables. she occasionally binges out on cakes and cream and stuff and then eats next to nothing for the next 3 days. She suggested thats what I do, but then my dad flipped out. Me, my mom and sister are all veggies whilst my dad still eats meat and fish etc. No one in my family is overweight, and my sister is stick-thin, and my dad is obsessed with exercise so he is quite slim. I dont'really follow their example with food apart from I eat a lot of veggies. |

| Weight Loss | College Students: Advice for all-nighters?? | May 11 2008 14:58 (UTC) |
5 |
| I don't have anything to revise for, but i have photography and art
deadlines. last year i pulled 3 all nighters in a row to get it all
done, and then ended it with a gig where i got so bashed up i was
covered in bruises, and got knocked so hard in the head i blacked out. And the crazy thing about that is that i also went to the gym for an hour at 6 every morning for those few days. By the end i was knackered, but it got the work done. I don't remember what I ate in those days. I remember having a big bowl of cereal for breakfast after the gym each morning, and eating quite a few raisins.... |

| Health & Support | Scoliosis | Apr 08 2008 11:11 (UTC) |

| Hi, I don't have scoliosis myself, but my sister is 13 and got diagnosed about 6 months ago. She has 4 quite serious curves and her rib cage is like completely twisted out and her shoulders are very very uneven. She's not having surgery because they said that the metal they insert in the spine sometimes rips through the skin. She has been put in a boston brace that she has to wear for 23 and a half hours a day. She has been at SOS scoliosis for the past month which is a back camp where they do different execises and things. The brace only helps with her lower back, and so the exercises deal with the top bit that isn't covered by the brace. The back camp exercises are helping but she's gonna do them everyday for the rest of her life. |

| Weight Loss | The Dreaded Freshman 15! | Mar 25 2008 02:20 (UTC) |
1 |
| apparently the freshman 15 is partly due to the newfound freedom to be able to eat what you want when you want, but luckily i've been at boarding school for the past 6 years where I have been able to do that anyways, so that won't be a shock to my system, and i gained my 'freshman 15' when I was about 15, and i've lost it all plus more now, and eat relatively healthily. And I don't drink. Hopefully I'm safe.... | |||

| Health & Support | What was the cause of your ED? | Mar 20 2008 16:21 (UTC) |

| it wasn't one particular thing, its was kinda everything all lumped together. my mom told me i was fat, and i suspect she has some form of an eating disorder herself. she weighs about 43kg and complains of being fat. being afraid of growing up my sister is really really skinny and never has eaten a lot, so in my mind it became a sort of competition. And my sister has scoliosis, and my parents were paying a lot of attention to her, so i felt kinda rejected, so i thought that by making myself sick i'd get there attention [selfish i know] and being able to control what i didn't eat made me feel better, and just seeing that bloody number on the scale going each day. and several other factors, but just all of it became overwhelming. |

| Hiya guys!
Just wanted to let you know that I'm doing well! Today, i had like an hour long dmc, about food, weight and finally told one of my close friends about the problems i've had with food in the last few months. And we talked about it, and like, trying not to care about it and stuff, and I'm feeling really excited about it all!
We're joining our school food council to try and improve the meals at school as well!
Also, there are like 5 of our friends who have suddenly gone on hardcore diets. 3 of them are actually quite overweight, and as selfish as it may seem, we do feel sort of annoyed with them. And for me its sort of hard cos it makes me feel less in control than them, it was actually my friend who suggested i might feel like that, so i'm glad she's so understanding. I'm also really happy, cos i've spent 6 years at this all girls' boarding school and its reallys crewed with my mind. Next year, I'm going to uni, to do a course which is 90% guys, which i think is quite good for me in that guys obssess far less abotu that kinda thing. But yeah... just though I'd share my thoughts! =D |

| i don't actually bite my nails that often [cos it really hurts my jaw] but i have practically completely shredded the skin all around my nails. They're red raw, swollen, and generally quite disgusting. I have also tried everything, including gloves. Nothing worked for me... The clear liquid stuff never worked, i've tried like every brand there is! | |||

| I am having a hard time. I thought I was well on my way to getting completely better. I haven't skipped a meal in 3 weeks and have eaten at LEAST 1000 calories a day. The thing is, I'm at an all girls boarding school, and I am fed up of it. Each meal the only comments that get thrown around are about how each person is 'going rexy' or 'on a diet' everybody's on a flippin diet. And they're not healthy diets, they're 'get thin' diets, 'salad diets'. My friend ate 6 chocolate muffins at tea, and I tried to explain that you're meant to each for nutrition too... and its so frustrating, I need to go to the meals, but at the same time, its horrible, it just makes me not want to eat. URGH! | |||

| Yes I think it is temporary! For the first week it looked [and felt] as though I'd wake up every morning feeling bigger than the day before, and I was all bloated and gross, but Its mostly stopped, and doesn't look so ridiculous any more! Its been about 3 weeks I think in total. I feel better! =D | |||

| trill, to your last question. Yeah, I do feel that. I just use all the strength and mindpower to try and block it out. That was my problem before you see, here, and at school, whenever someone would so much as crack a gag about how a certain food is 'fatty' or just smells bad, I would automatically revert back to not being allowed to have it. Or the moment someone would say something related to eating or weight, I would just run back... But I have to get over it. Its hard, some days I make mistakes, but I'm trying really hard. | |||

| I know its a little bit late to be joining this thread... however I've avoided it in the past, as I know I would have complained about the amount i ate, when it was actually a very very small amount.
Over the past two years, I also fell into the trap of an ED... I wasn't extremely underweight, but you could see most of my bones. I got as bad as only eating an apple a day. that was it. Or i'd go through periods of eating just one food, and then I'd tell myself that I would stop this nonsense, and I would eat normally, but the moment that happened I'd be out of control and eating loads and loads, and then step on the scale to discover to my horror that I'd gained weight, so then go back to eating practically nothing for a while. BUT now I have decided that I really want to stop all this, and just be normal again, where I could eat 3 ice cream lollies in one day [okay that WAS a bit excessive, but you know what I mean =D] and not feel guilty, or go to a restaurant with my friends and order something other than the salad with the dressing on the side. I had my half term holiday 2 weeks ago in canada, and from the moment I got to the airport, I tried to eat normally again. Its hard, cos I don't even know what normal really is anymore. And at an all girls' boarding school, nobody eats normally. =S But this time I really wanna do it. I don't log my food & calories anymore. I just have a vague idea in my mind for an overall intake a day just to make sure I'm not going completely over the top. I've also stopped weighing myself. Okay, sorry for the long post, but I just wanted to tell someone! Thanks to anyone who read this and replies... and anyone on CC in the past who've helped me! |

| Yeah. And then I'm thinking in my head that I must look really greedy, which makes me feel really bad. Even if i'm not going to eat it, I won't let anyone else have it. And in the holidays I live with my mom, dad and sister, and me and my mom usually do the grocery shopping, but I'll buy all this 'safe' stuff, and i'll throw the biggest hissy if anyone touches it [my dad is the biggest culprit], so now my parents have allocated me a little tub in the fridge, and if its in the tub, they can't touch it. I won't even let them share my pot of peanut butter, so they have to buy a separate one for my sister! | |||

| Weight Loss | Can't sleep hungry. Any suggestions? | Feb 07 2008 12:31 (UTC) |

| thats really weird! I can only sleep if i'm starving hungry. If i feel like i have food in my tummy, then my brain automatically assumes that this is all just gonna add wait for the next day. so i have to stay up til i feel super hungry... and even if i get into bed i physically can't get to sleep til i get that hunger pang. | |||
