Motivation Attitude problem... Mar 06 2007

I know what you mean, but I'm kind of the opposite with my attitude problem though. Most of my friends are either skinny or just voluptuous but very healthy and active, so I look to the healthy ones as inspiration. I have over 100 lbs to loose too, but I've always been pretty active, and not what *I* consider lazy. I've worked out on and off for the past 5 years (not as religiously as needed to to lose weight though). But I know a woman who is my size, and she talks about how unhappy healthy people are for dieting all the time, and how she doesn't have to watch her sugar because she has glucose tablets that she can take if she has a diabetic episode from eating 1/2 a cake. She's so negative and bitchy anyhow, and she gets on my last damn nerve! I find myself looking at her and thinking "she makes me sick," but we're the same size!!! How messed up is that?

You know what works for me.....remembering the slimey raw eggs that are in that unbaked cookie dough! I guess that only applies if you think raw eggs are gross like I do.

I use smart balance as well and it's wonderful, I think it has 80 calories per Tbsp. though. I also use no sugar added "apple butter." Only 25 calories per Tbsp. It's good with peanut butter too instead of sugary jelly!

I wouldn't worry about the difference between the lost nutrients in the oven vs. the microwave, I think the difference is negligable. I microwave them sometimes to speed up the process, but then I rub them with a little olive oil (just a couple drops, and some kosher salt and put them in the oven on 500 for 10-15 minutes so that the skin gets nice and crispy, and it doesn't taste microwved.

I find it odd that parts of the goverment want to regulate the amount of sweeteners in sodas and junk foods, and by the same token they place absurdly high tariffs on imported sugar to make money for the federal goverment, which subsequently causes the price of sugar to rise and alternatives like high fructose corn syrup (which is easily and cheaply made in the u.s.) to be put into almost EVERYTHING we eat. Almost every freakin thing we eat. Politicians make me throw up a little bit in my mouth!

It's everywhere, even places you wouldn't expect to find it. I looked at the back of a bag of dried strawberries the other day, after strawberries the next ingredient was HFCS.....IN A FREAKIN STRAWBERRY!!! What the hell does a piece of fruit need to have a sweetner added to it for? You might as well have a candy bar for the calories in a 1/4 bag of dried strawberries. Some orange juices have added sugar too, it's the most ridiculous thing ever! I mean if I'm eating a piece of caramel flan or double chocolate death cake then I expect 2 truck loads of sugar dumped down my gullet, but not in my O.J.!

Is there a Trader Joes near you anywhere? It's so cheap and they are big on the vegetarian/organic thing. My no sugar added peanut butter is is like 1.50 a jar. I don't know if they have no salt added, but at the farmers markets you can grind your own peanut butter.

What is it with night time? I don't think I eat emotionally, I feel like I'm happy and satisfied, so i don't know why I do it. My biggest problem is at night though. I'm trying to replace binge time with time at the gym, and it seems to help a lot. I feel so weak though, that food has such a tight grasp on my psyche, and I am perplexed as to why, because I have everything I could want. I suppose I am addicted to the numbness and satiation that you get from binging, I just wish I knew why so that I could address it more specifically.

mmmmm cheeeeeese

I've never met a cheese I didn't like! Hard cheeses, soft cheeses, stinky cheeses, moldy cheese, I love them one and all! A smooth camembert, a tangy sweet parrano, a buttery jarlsberg or a hearty gorgonzola. My god I'd spend 5 hours on the treadmill just to sink my teeth into a chunk of cheese paired with a nice glass of of a Spanish Crianza or a crisp portuguese white.

Being a foodie, it's been very hard for me to reconcile eating "processed cheese food," with my love of real cheese. I've learned to grab a few cubes of the laughing cow light cheese and squish it between whole wheat saltines for a cheese fix. It's not gourmet, but it is better for me. Each cube is only 7 calories...granted it is a small cube, but it curbs my cheese fix!

Just look at it this way:

If you've consistently taken steps forward (3 weeks worth), and just one step back, you are still way ahead of where you started! It's ok to allow yourself a cheat day once in a while. I know you said you didn't feel deprived, but your body may have felt deprived, especially if you're under 1200 cal a day.

I have a lot of weight to lose as well, and I've noticed that the last time I lost a significant amount of fat, I didn't really lose much weight. However, I dropped 8 - 10 sizes in my clothing. Do your clothes fit a lot differently but you still weigh in the same? I guess I just gained a lot of muscle which weighs more than fat so my actual weight wasn't affected that much.

Eating several small meals a day helps me too, and when I hit a plateu, eating more seems to help boost my metabolism and start me loosing again. I do elliptical, walk my dog, swim and the ever dreaded and torturous squats and lunges !

All of this of course just depends on the person, but I've had to try a thousand different things to get out of my plateaus. I know it's supposed to be as simple as calories in and calories out...but well...it's just not that simple for some of us.

Just keep trying different things, it will kick in for you I'm sure!

On this website under Tools and subheader Activities you can figure all of that out. It tells you how many calories you burn per hour based on 150 lb person doing a myriad of different things, from jogging, conducting and sexual activity to sitting in church and reading!!!

I'm doing the exact same thing. I have a lot more than 50 Lbs to lose, but my goal is health in general and not a specific number as of yet. I'm going to gauge my success by how I feel, and the sizes I drop in my jeans. Once I've lost some significant weight then I may become more specific with my goals, but right now I'm trying to just get the "Eat to live not live to eat" mantra into my head.
