I agree with the Hal Higdon book or website listed above.  I am also signed up for the Chicago marathon this year.  It will be my 2nd one this year.  I'm also running Grandma's Marathon in Duluth MN in June.

Good Luck

I like to listen to anything heavy, Metallica, Disturbed, System of Down, etc.  Lately I've learned to really like Flyleaf.  Overall anthing heavy is good for me.

Kind of a bad running week.  Had the flu the first half the week and then winter returned and bummed me out during the weekend.

Today was the only day I ran this week.  Mark me down for 12.1 miles.

I was out of town for the National Guard, training in Ohio.  I did find another runner at my school and we got a lot of running in.  I'll have to give you my total for the month so far b/c I didn't have a wireless connection when I was out of town and couldn't update by the week.

From April 2nd through April 21st TOTAL 57 miles

Total for the week of March 26 - April 1 = 18.4 miles

Blizzard conditions today and forcasted for tomorrow, so I'm just gonna take those two days off and rest.

I'll be out of town for the National Guard, going to Ohio, for training from April 4-April 19.  My running may be limited and so may my internet access.  So I may post a two week total around the 19th of April.

Running is my favorite.  Make me feel so good when I'm done.  Don't like treadmills, love the outside running.

Thank you for the welcome.  I'm glad I found this thread.  I do alot of running and log all my runs on marathonguide.com.  So, since I log my runs I might as well put it somewhere usefull.

I'll post my mileage every Tuesday.

I have run alot over years and really only had one dog nip me on the back of the leg.  I've had good luck turning to face the dog and yell at it.  I've actually had the most problem with dogs wanting to actually run with me.  Those dogs I don't mind, I just think the owners might get worried because the dogs just took off for a couple mile with me. When you first start to run DON"T use a stop watch.  Run a nice slow pace and get used to running 2 miles. Sometimes using a stop watch makes every run into a race.  Just run so you feel good.

As for dogs there isn't too much advise.  I run a lot and was bit slightly by one dog.  What works for me sometimes is to turn and face the dog and yell at it.  I think some dogs feel dominant on you when you are running away from them, so they nip at you from behind.

I just found this thread on CC.  I'm just starting my training for two marathons this coming year, Grandma's Marathon in Duluth MN and the Chicago Marathon.  I'll try and post my weekly totals from here on out.  My mileage from this last week was 19.8.

Fitness Back problems while running Mar 12 2008

I could be considered a running fanatic.  I run 2 marathons a year.  I used to have lower back pain also.  I used to be around 200 pounds and 5'9".  Now I'm 185 pounds and I no longer have back pain.  So weight could be one thing causing your back pain.  Also your running posture could also cause back pain.  One advise is to " RUN TALL " try not to slouch.  The shoe issue was already addressed in this thread.

Good Luck with your running.
