thanks for analyzing my breakfast and breaking it down step by step. 800 cal is WAY too much for breakfast. I am a self confessed binger and yeah today wasn't great day to be proud of. I tend to binge after i'm stressed/ tired/ bored and once I have a sweet creamy taste I'm after food for ages. One of my weapons to counter act a binge is a carrot. I chew on a carrot and drink some water and I am good to go. I'm a runner and always look to that as an excuse to eat poorly however if doesn't change anything. Also the baby in the picture is my mom's friend's baby lol. Thank you for the concern on the breast milk thing. I didn't know that food you eat is transfered that way. |

i'm registered on hungry girl and she does have great ideas but i find that she uses a lot of Splenda and canned pumpkin (which i tried to find at my local jewel/ walmart and they didn't have any!) so that's why i want recipes that use versatile ingredients (fruit, milk, ect.). |

some ideas: sleep!!!- ideally people should get around 7-8 hours at least of sleep. As a teenager... i notice a LOT of people barely hit that mark of enough sleep which is ridiculous. When you're tired, you compensate that fatigue with food! So if you're well rested, you wouldn't skimp on exercise and you won't over eat because you wouldn't be that tired. brush your teeth before you sleep- so if you sleep at nine then brush your teeth 2-3 hours before then and once you brush your teeth you are done eating for the day. If there's any party or something at your house that lasts up to 12 am or something then you could: a) ignore the party or b) if you know ahead of time then shift the time you eat breakfast like 2 hours later so your day remains balanced but you don't over eat.
hungrygirl.com has awesome recipes for desserts that are low cal (if you like to use splenda and canned pumpkin and stuff) Portion control!- along w/ the snacking... many of us snack while we're standing and we're grabbing all sorts of food. Say you're following the traditional 3 meals a day... then eat only 3 times a day. Each meal, you should have all the desired foods in front of you on a plate at a table with you seated. Make sure your plate is filled with exactly everything you want to eat! If you want some chocolate with your pancakes or something then put it on your plate but the calories need to be counted. If you're planning to snack then snack mindfully. Portion control my friend... take the time to bag 100- 200 calorie snacks the day before if you have time (instead of eating or such). You know the calorie snack packs? It's the same concept... portion control... but you learn what 1 oz of nuts really looks like (which isn't that much) or such.
i wrote too much... and some of the stuff i wrote i should be following too... but i hope what everyone posts help. I know how it feels to be in the rut. I usually fast to make up for the binge but now I try to learn from my mistakes about what trigger foods make me eat more (i.e. cereals, crackers, dry sugary foods that never fill you up). Don't beat yourself too much. Take a breather... analyze the situation, and don't skimp on exercise! It will save you in the long run. (if anyone wants to edit feel free... to make it more concise)

boredom, stress, when new food is brought into the house, tiredness, guilt, cereal, bread, sugar. So we read all the triggers... what do you guys do to solve the urge to eat? I don't have a solution at all and I've been gaining weight right after I lost weight... embarrassing huh? I'm glad I came across this post... very interesting how so many things trigger eating. |

This is such an uplifting post and coming from a man it means a ton to the ladies. It's great that some guys out there aren't as superficial about the bodies as say people from mtv or Hollywood ect. Women breaking bones to fit into smaller size shoes is scary... Thanks for such a great post and it teaches women a lot about appreciating themselves.

alayney has a point.. retrain yourself to not want that "full" feeling... i mean i love that full feeling however when i get to that point then i eat the whole day to keep that full feeling. once you do exercise being full then you understand how uncomfortable the full feeling is. you're not alone.. i need to retrain my urges to eat more too... how do you do it alayney? |

carbs carbs carbs... and fat trigger me; whenever i have an egg or broiled chicken or something i am ultimately full (protein) but if i have hot pie with ice cream topped with whip cream with banana slices, chocolate syrup, and a cherry on top, ii eat endlessly in search for the satisfying dessert. curse my sweet tooth. |

adorable molly... hang in there safina i hope you find a way out of the weight gaining cycle... i know it was tough for me then all of a sudden i got too busy to eat junk food so that helped mabear... you're truly an inspiration.. how do you have the time for your busy schedule to relax? kk... how are you? you said your kids ran in high school and all.... any of your children have flat feet? did they get special spikes.. my coach is advising me to get spikes soon since i'm getting to that speed where i would need them... i can't get personal orthotics because my situation isn't severe enough and they're like $500. i don't know what to do... i want to know the name of the spikes i could get and then look around stores for the best price. mollymouser those are adorables pictures of you... your dog... and especially of you and your husband... thanks for sharing 2BB and 4sq... how are you? has forks come back yet? -HB

lol kk.... 5 servings of fruit? like total? DANG....... well i guess i know where i need to work on. ok today i'll give an effort to get in three servings. 1/2 cup of strawberries count right? anyway maybe the more servings of fruit i add the less fattening sweets i would eat? i don't know but there's something about breaded sweets that just satisfy me (i.e cookes, cake, cinnamon bun, the works). but i'm glad i took control the whole planning thing absolutely helped... but i had to keep modifying it through out the day as people in the house ate all the food i was planning to eat and my mom's friend brought this vegan dish with some homemade tomato sauce.. how can you resist homemade? ok g2g to practice.... talk to everyone later. -HB |

ok time of confession... i followed the plan semi-exactly making some changes along the way and editing it to fit the plan so i don't over exceed my calorie limit. then my mom made little donut balls (well it's technically not like the American donut... it's very light and fluffy inside and covered with some homemade corn syrup). i crashed and burned.. i felt starved today eating an unusual amount of less calories than i've been consuming before. i had about 10-12 of those balls... then drank the rest of my smoothie. this is around 7:10pm. the food planning worked... just my sweet tooth craving for fresh desserts got in the way. maybe if i didn't have any i wouldn't have such a full feeling... i should have just drank more water to fill myself. *sigh* so i'll just add a plain donut in my log and see what the damage is. i hope it's not too bad but i thought today would be the perfect day. i was just so hungry though it was ridiculous. how did everyone else do today? -HB |

Original Post by 2beittybitty: lol what?? thanks 2BB for the help... it feels so good just sticking to a plan. i don't know why but if its written down or something i have to follow it no matter what. it's weird but i just love that planning meals works so well. Nordic Track? is that a type of tredmill? that's so cool! i wish i had a tredmill at home.. if i ever miss practice then i could run on that inside without my parents yelling at me. every friday we have pizza... do you guys have Dominiks grocery store? if you do then you would know that every friday they have pizza $5 per box. time is key... if i was a stay at home mom maybe it would be easier for me to plan meals and all. i just want to be efficient at that part and balance my life. cottage cheese.. geese safina and booster i love your cottage cheese idea.. if i had some right now i would attempt the smoothie idea and have it with honey and strawberries on a cracker... YUM ^_^ report for the millionth time later. i'm reading about collage prep... they sent a package and even though i'm just a freshman the read says it's important to prepare early. i feel very confident now. -HB

my planned nutrition report... i'm totaling 15.9% protein and 23. 9% fat... all the time i have more fat than protein... that's so annoying! but i'm not going to lie planning out my meal today feels so good because i find myself not wandering to the kitchen and snacking. i'm really following this plan and all you know? jella and 2BB thanks for the advice... i just love this feeling so far... i'm not even like focusing on eating and all i just have to look at the plan and follow it and then i'm done. anyway... total grams: 1,858 Daily Sodium Intake - 1,755 mg healthy levels for such Daily Sodium Intake - 2,400 mg max so i think i did good on sat. fat intake, cholesterol (that's a first!), sodium (oddly a little low) and fiber intake... well i would love to jack it up to 30 grams but i'll have to see my eating habits. the sugar intake i'm confused about.. does CC count all carbs (counting fruits) or just refined sugar? if just refined sugar then that's something i need to work on. -HB |

ok i have to choose between keeping a heeping slice of pizza (212 cal) versus honey bunches of oats cereal and strawberries (180 cal).... I guess the pizza should go but it always tastes good when it's hot. i'm having the stew my mom will make for dinner.... for lunch i logged in pizza but also had cream of mushroom soup, piece of french bread, 1/2 tsp olive oil with middle eastern baba ganoush (roasted eggplant dip). i already had the morning snack and all... i was going to have my afternoon snack before my lunch but then i decided to just change my lunch a little.... i don't know what to decide... i'm keeping the soy milk in the log but i have to either keep the pizza and get rid of the cereal or the other way around. without pizza i total 1536 without cereal+ strawberries i total 1568 if i eat half of a pizza keeping the cereal i total 1642 i eat half of a pizza and half a cup of cereal instead of a whole cup i total 1561. my mom just brought home the pizza.... ugghh i'll just have half and see if i crave a whole cup of cereal and all.... i wish i didn't have to spend so much time pondering all this... i want to just write what i eat every night real quick and log it in the for the next day so i don't have to worry about it. if only my mom would give me the heads up for the next day. |

well today for track we jogged a mile (and maybe a half) warm up, 8 200 sprints (3 person relay) and a mile cool down. then we did 4 sets of 25 crunches and 10 push ups and then 25 long sit ups. i don't know about the warm up and cool down because those were pretty slowish medium pace.. around 8 min per mile? it was more like a jog. 473 cal burned per hour of jogging it says 675 cal burned per hour for track practice and for calisthenics ("heavy vigerous sit ups and push ups")- 540 cal per hour for light- moderate calisthenics (going up and down from floor)- 236 cal per hour i would say that our practice lasted about an hour but we started a little later than 8:15 and came back at 9:15 so i mean it would be fair to say that we probably did 30 min of jogging and and 20 minutes of track practice and then like 10 min of calisthenics (i'll average between the two) 236 jogging +225 track practice+ 64 cal calisthenics= 524 calories burned on road run days i would burn about 433 cal + 64 calisthenics= 497 cal (well actually we do sit ups and crunches then go lift but i'll just use that estimate). Assuming that I am running at an 9 min mile pace for 4 miles for 35 min (actually it would be an 8.40 min. mile pace). i'll finish this post later... my sister is being annoying. -HB |

my sister just xed out and i had all these thoughts i typed out and i forgot now... UGGH I HATE HER!!!!!! Jella i love your meal plan... what are hibiscus and vegemite? 2BB thanks for the suggestion... but for me it's easy said than done... just to clarify are you saying eat when you need to and just don't focus on food? i made a smoothie this morning: strawberries, banana, soy milk, grapefruit juice, and 1 tbs vanilla orange sherbert. made 3 servings each 107 cal. So I know for sure today that i need to finish off the smoothie. breakfast: smoothie- 107 cal 1 oz mom's cheesecake- 91 cal big orange- 86 cal little piece cinnamon bun- 66 cal Total: 352 cal? morning tea 1 cup lipton tea 1 tbs honey- 60 cal 1 apple? (bigger than medium but smaller than large)- 90-100 cal 2 almond candies- 34 cal total: 194 cal at most have no clue for lunch... my mom is cutting up green beans so maybe she's making vegetable tomato stew with some beef cuts in it? have to look into that. there's a little of the soy milk left so i need to finish it today... i'll have cereal (because i love cereal!) afternoon snack: 1 cup honey bunches of oats cereal- 150 cal 3/4 cup silk vanilla soy milk- 75 cal 3 large strawberries, sliced (and microwaved with the soy milk for a nice steamy crunchy/ soggy cereal)- 18 cal total: 243 cal evening snack: rest of smoothie- 207 cal lunch and dinner i have no clue. so far i'm planned for at least 1017 cal... wow i have like 600-700 cal left for lunch and dinner which means i need to total at least 300 cal for lunch and dinner and then i could add 30-40 cal in each.... say if my mom made the stew then it would be 130 cal per 89 grams... what would that be in cups? how many grams are in a cup of hearty stew? the stew is called fasoolia and it's traditional lima bean stew in Labenon. http://caloriecount.about.com/recipe/93428.ht ml.... it's a definite A.. plus i need some iron and protein in my diet so this is a great thing for me. gotta log this in my account. -HB

oh no things have turned a dark shadowed wall (if that even makes sense) on life. they say the most strongest people are the ones that pull it through. My condolences to Jella for her dog. i feel a little crummy too... yesterday i total around 1,700 most and literally felt starved and today i total 2,400 cal thinking i was eating normally (not too much and not too little). boy was i wrong! i consumed too much fat. my body feels like i have been consuming too much fat... i just feel all icky like i have high cholesterol or something even though i don't or probably do but not too serious (this is a risky assumption). if i eliminated the cheesecake, nuts, ice cream bar (230 cal!), little piece of dark chocolate, yogos bits, and extra cereal i would be at 1,358 cal. So for me to feel full I should keep the nuts (250) but then i would be deprived from my sweet tooth so i could have taken the cereal (130 cal) but cereal never leaves me satisfied. i already had an apple and a banana... i could have had two apples today but then i would need the protein... geese this is hard. should i post what i ate today? or would the list be too long? i'll post what i ate... for the past week i've been munching on cereal with soy milk and banana slices... i love the taste but i'm never completely satisfied, only the soy milk does the job. breakfast boiled, leftover, frozen veggies- 55 cal peas in pod- 101 cal mized nuts- 250 ( i was munching it with the veggies) large apple- 110 cal lunch corn flakes- 101 cal 1 slice deli turkey- 25 cal soft tortilla- 72 cal cheddar cheese 1/2 oz- 56 home squeezed apple carrot juice- 162 cal 1/2 tbs pasta sauce- 4 cal? (that's what it says though it's probably higher) 1 tbs baba ganoush- 17 cal dinner mom's cheesecake- 257 cal cream of mushroom 1 cup- 103 cal broccoli 2 large stocks- 196 cal grilled chicken breast- 142 cal spinach- 10 cal snacks vanilla ice cream bar- 240 cal strawberry yogos- 90 cal honey bunches of oats cereal- 130 cal silk vanilla soy milk- 100 cal piece of dark chocolate- 75 cal total: 2,420 cal i honestly felt like i ate normally... well aside from the sweets.... there hasn't been any wheat bread for me though i do have wheat flour so i wanted to make my own wheat bread but i'm a bad cook. if you were to make homemade wheat bread how long would it last? i drank water but not as much as i did yesterday... *sigh* i have a good day then back to bad habits... first habit i'll work on is stop eating at... 7pm no matter what type of food i ate (even if there's fresh steamed broccoli, it shouldn't be eaten late) after that i'll work on no eating while standing and opening the refrigerator... if i want to eat i'll have to sit down like a real person in the family room in front of everyone... this is a hard one because i'm so used to eating while opening the fridge and poking at the food. then after that i'll have to work on what kind of food i eat... this one i'm still unsure what i should do about this. i eat healthy it's just my sweet tooth that goes nuts. anyone with suggestions? maybe i could also use the computer less? i think i'm addicted to calorie count.. always logging in my food the minute i eat it. there was also habits about pre-cutting veggies so you're more likely to eat those rather than bad stuff like already made cake... too bad we don't have any more carrots and celery (all juiced). if i wasn't lazy then i'd probably be successful with that. sorry i keep talking about me.... 4sq you said you went on paint and painted a picture of 2bb's palace? i don't see it on the gallery unless you took it off or something...that would be cool to see! -HB |

are you guys planning the palace? Great to hear from you booster...the feeling after a hard work-out is irreplaceable. I don't know about you guys but today I finally broke the 2,500 cal cycle by totaling 1,700 at most. From 11am-5pm I consumed up to 1,600 and then at 7 I had an apple, a taste of my mom's cheesecake (ok maybe I haven't changed COMPLETELY) and some carrot juice. I feel so good though that I didn't binge today.. I was so scared but was too tired to care and didn't focus in on eating much. In my head I developed some plan but now I just forgot it... it had something to do with organizing my day. I find that if I have breakfast late then I eat less for the day because in my head I stop eating when the sun sets because I don't like to eat before I sleep. Anyone feel the same way? Hopefully I act like this tomorrow. I still have hope! Yipee! -HB |

ok I am a non sense binger... been totalling 2,400 daily which is ridiculous. Hey when you guys are bored what do you do to counter act the eat craving? That's something that's been bugging me. Garbluv you're very positive and I like the fact that you pre cut your veggies... like fsunshine measuring meals and prepackaging them. That's so smart. Ok how do you pre-log meals when you really don't know what you're going to eat the next day. Should I just log it in before I even eat it? You know what that's what I'll do. Whenever I get an urge for food and I'm at the house I'll pre-log. I don't know about you guys... but I always eat the most when I'm in the house alone with absolutely nothing to do. thanks for the tips! I'm definitley inspired... but I really don't know how to make a good salad. I'll look online and make salads for the week. That is one habit I am DEFINITLEY taking. One more question... what do you guys do when you've binged and ate so much in one day? Like if you've been doing it for a LOOOOOOOOOOONG time and you want to break the cycle. That's what I need right now... -HB |

ok found out that I eat until I'm bored and then eat more tried to make popcorn balls with homemade corn syrup... didn't work ate like 4 servings of cereal today if I could eliminate the "tuna hash", little bit of cake, extra cereal with soy milk I would total around 1,600 cal. Totaled around 2,500 cal. I am done eating for today it's 6:30. I have been totaling that amount for 2 weeks... some days low and some days high. I always do well when I fast for the day and just eat at night. I total around 1,600 cal from just 1 big meal and second small meal. Why.... WHY AM I LIKE THIS?!?!?! I'm 150 exact... checked myself on the scale and I knew that I was gaining but didn't know that 5 full pounds could feel so harsh. The lowest I've ever been was 142. This is not good. -HB |

geesalo 2BB, if you were a painter then you could paint this hall. You have such a creative mind. For now the only running program I'm following is my coach's until track is over. Once then safina I'll ask you and kk on advice on running I could do. And check it out! I found out that my Nike shoes and hold a censor to measure how long, pace, calories burned, all this info on running. The censor connects to an ipod nano... thing is I don't have an ipod nano. I wasted my earned money on an mp3 for $70 that got lost and then I had to rebuy an mp3 for $50 and I could have bought an ipod nano video on ebay for like $80 all new with earphones and usb cord. UGGHH so annoying. I need to save up. I want to beg my dad to let me buy an ipod nano NOW on ebay and I could pay him back later.... Think that's fair? Ok I wanted to add protein in my diet so I opened a small can of tuna... then I added some peices of bread, 1/2 diced tomato, 1 tbs pasta sauce, little mayo. Mixed it up into some weird... glop thing and it needed something extra so I cooked it on a pan and decided to add an egg. Then I took a small raw potato and shredded that and added cheese and onion and everything. I just went baserk and made it into a hash. It tasted ok-good like as if it was a hash brown but I logged it in and the whole recipe (I used a can of tuna so I guess that accounts for it) was 800 cal. This totally blew my cal intake to 1,600 and then I added all the other junk I ate today and it totals to 1,929. I was licking some banana cream pie so I had to add that in. I guess the trend I'm noticing is if I removed one food from the food log then my daily calorie intake would be in the 1,400-1,700 range. It's always the snacks or little meals I make that ruin the day. This was around 1pm and I was hungry for sure but I was also watching food network and I love to make my own food but I think some of the stuff I used in this hash wasn't necessary. I ate 1/2 for lunch and just ate the other half 'cause my mom told me to. I didn't want to throw it away so I mean yeah I ate it. Lesson learn: do not make my own food. Maybe sandwiches but nothing extreme. The annoying part is as I upped the intake on my protein I decreased my carb and increased my fat. Uggh this is so ANNOYING! I need to increase my protein without increasing my fat/ decreasing carbs. Though it's said that carbs can make you hungry... but I'd rather have more of that then fat. FAT FAT FAT.. stupid fat. I know not all fat is bad but it's something I need to decrease. I mean when I'm 40 my metabolism will be totally slow and I'm not going to be able to burn off the extra calories I eat. I drank like 11/2 cup of soy milk today... I'm not going to have enough for the end of the week. -HB |
