Your body basically makes you binge on high fat foods because it believes that you're going into some sort of famine. When you diet, you cut back on your body's need for calories, so it panics and starts to make you crave high fat foods to store up for this famine you're going into. That's why you constantly think about/crave high fat foods while rescricting your calories. This is also why you feel obsessed with food. Binges aren't from being a glutton, Lack of will-power, emotional reasons, or being greedy. Your body is simply taking over to keep you from starvation. ("Emotional binges" are usually triggered from stress. You're more likely to "fall off the wagon" when you're stressed out, because you're so tired from rescricting your food, and your body is craving fat to give you energy. This is also why most binges consist of high carb content. Fast energy kick.) That's what dieting and calorie rescriction does, sadly. Binges can be prevented from satisfying your body's hunger with high quality, nutritious, delicious foods until you feel satisfied. Your body knows how much food you need, so eat as much as you want until you look at the food, and know you don't want anymore. You will more then likely overeat at first, because you've been undereating for so long, and depriving your body. But in time, your appetite will return to normal. (A lot of people crave bread. Eat as much as your body craves. These cravings balance out in time. Don't be afraid to give your body as much as it asks for. Just as long as it's healthy food/s.) We control our eating with our minds instead of our bodies, so we get all these messed up eating patterns. The less we eat, the more our bodies crave fat/junk foods, and are more likely to store calories from fat. This is because our bodies are programmed to prepare for famines if we get a lack in our food supply. But if we eat well, and eat until we are satisfied constantly, our bodies priorites shift from starvation to abundance mode. Then the body starts craving more lean foods, and naturally metabolises the food you eat. This is why naturally, children are not overweight. They haven't been messed up by dieting yet. Their bodies control their eating, and not their minds. The children that are becoming overweight, are the ones who get poor nutrition, and bad foods. They eat when they are hungry. Hunger is a powerful force. And they don't think about nutrition. The bodies priority lies in the body saying, "Eat! I need fuel!" So they eat when they are hungry, and satisfy their bodies needs with whatever food is available. Plus junk food is more appealing when you're hungry, because it has such high fat content. And when the body needs fuel, and feels as if it's going into a famine, it craves fat the most. I hope some of this information has helped you.. It's just my advice. That's why people binge. If you have anymore questions feel free to ask me-- Take care! =) |

Molly, have you heard of Intuitive Eating? You should Google it. Intuitive eating is changing my life. I've been developing a more healthier relationship with food since I discovered it. I haven't felt this close to being "normal" with my relationship with food since I was really little. At first when I started out, I gained a few lbs, but now I'm back down and I might be still losing. My struggle with counting calories and bingeing is like.. taking leave. And I'm so happy. Please research it a little. Take it easy. I know exactly how you feel right now. Seriously. It's hell- I know. :(

Thanks for your advice bernst31. And for getting to your point. Sucks be to me, lol. =] I was not trying to imply in any way that I didn't appreciate other peoples replies-- all I was asking was if I could keep from gaining weight if I fasted today since I binged yesterday. And the advice I got was that I should eat anyway, and get over it. But I didn't want to know what I should do, I wanted to know if fasting helped because I binged yesterday.

No, no no! My binge was 1,800 that day, + 1,200 more. So that's 3,000 calories. What I meaned by "planned", was that I was counting calories while binging. I wasn't just munching away not thinking about it. 0h well. I've been fasting all day, and I feel tired and blah, but I didn't exactly need food for energy to do anything. I've just been sitting around. Tomorrow I'll eat normal again. No one really answered my question. Everyone just said that I should eat anyway. 0r whether I could still lose weight by doing this. 0h well. Thanks anyway. =]

In the long run, after you've starved yourself for so long, and you decide to eat normally again, you basically gain all the weight back because your body needed the food so badly. It's not worth shutting down your matabolsm just for a flat stomach. Good for you that you're going to try to live healthy! Take care. =]

I don't think I'll binge again tomorrow. Definately not. I feel too bad from yesterday to do it again. Yesterday I actually made sure the binge stayed within 1,200 because that was what I would've eaten today. Can I keep myself from gaining weight if I eat normally again tomorrow without binging?

Wow. I binged today, and I feel so numb. I feel so worthless. It's like I didn't have any control over my body. It just took over, and I consumed. I chose to do that. Now I'm going to fast to make up for it. I don't know why I ate so much. It's so hard not to hate myself for this. I'm crying. I don't understand. I feel like a monster. I hate this.

0kay, thank you all so much for pushing me out of this insanity! I didn't even know the calories in the cookies, and I just looked them up. They're way high, and it's totally not worth eating. Plus it would be a bad idea, now that I'm thinking rationally. This guy I know is having his graduation party tomorrow, and if I was fasting I'd be all tired and grumpy around him. And that's just selfish on my part too. I'm just going to have a banana instead. 0r something that I can handle. Thanks guys.. :]

kate44sc, Thanks for the ideas! I really hope it is my matabolism just speeding up, because I haven't been gaining weight from eating a little more lately. As far as I know. I haven't weighed myself this week yet. (Tomorrow I'll find out.. weekly weigh will be interesting) I've been trying to get to maintaining on 1,600-1,700. Right now I can usually maintain on 1,400 if I don't exercise. Which is a little better then before. Compared to 1,200. =] I've been trying to eat 1,300-400, even if I don't exercise. I want to see if I can still maintain/lose from it. Thank you for your long post! Long posts are good answers! xD

humor pam; Isn't a 1/4 cup of sunflower seeds almost 200 cals? Like 190 or something? That's a lot! Usually I snack on fruits and veggies. Sometimes if I have a craving for fat I'll take a tbsp. of PB or something. For protein I usually get it from tuna, lol. Which I'll eat an intire can or something. I have eggs sometimes for breakfast. But they're not really filling. I used to have oatmeal every morning, it's really filling, but it just got really boring for me or something. -Thanks for your suggestions though pam.

IM0, both are pretty important. Like, if I don't plan out my meals, and just eat really high calorie foods and use up all of my calorie expenditure earlier in the day, I'll most likely binge later on that night because I'll get too hungry. Usually what I do, is eat 200-300 calorie meals. This way I'll have extra calories leftover for snacks and stuff. Like usually, this is how it goes, Breakfast=200-230 Snack=50 Lunch=200-300 snack=100 Dinner=500 Nightime snack=100-150 So that's how I space things out. Try and find what's right for you! Drink lots of water, and eats foods that are filling. Like a bad choice for lunch would be something like mac & cheese. It's about 400 for one cup, and it's not very satisfing. But if your problem is that you're not hungry enough to eat your calorie needs, then just eat things higher in calories.. You just need to work out a plan that suits your body. It seems to differ with everyone. Just make sure that you're eating enough, or your body will hang onto extra fat because it thinks you're going to starve or something. Good luck!

<3 HP. I'm reading through the series right now, actually. I've almost finshed The 0rder of The Pheonix.. It's proabably the most "dark" book I've read in the series so far. So many bad things are happening.... Anyway, I love the way they've casted the characters in the movie series. Radcliffe is definately not "Hot", but he is an average looking, realistic guy, basically exactly how I imagined Potter to be. That's one of the things I love about all the cast. None of them look like teen models, they look like average people, the way J.K. Rowling described them in her books. And more then likely the way she wanted them to be. -I'm trying to get my brother to take me to the theatre to see the most recent movie.. I think I'll wait `til the crowd dies down abit though. Everything's been mad packed!

This is really big decision! I mean, think of when you get intimate with someone in a relationship physically. Touch wouldn't be the same.. and they're.. Well. Fake.=\ Wouldn't that be embarrassing? It would for me.. I would really, really think this through before you do this.

0kay, here, THERE ARE NO DUMB QUESTIONS. =] I, am a perfect example of that. =p I've asked that same question before on here, and I've been told that it does automatically place your stats into consideration for your activities. But I'm still skeptical about this..

Yeah, mustard has calories in it too. It says "0", but it's not true. All food has some calorie value, no matter what. If you can eat it, then it has some calorie value. That's the way I see it. Whenever I add things like artificial sweeteners, I always count them as 5 calories. I've always done that, because I never believed they were completely 0. Ugh, marketing. -_-
