Mayonaise...just thinking about it makes me feel ill! Salad dressing, any kind - vile Butter. In fact anything you can taste the fat in Butternut squah/sweet potato - the texture/taste blegh Bananas - I can't even remember why now but I will not eat one for love nor money Salsa or sweet chili Any combination of sweet and savoury foods Meat. It repulses me, sometimes the sight or it or smell will make me ill. A few weeks ago, touched raw chicken when cooking for my brother and sister, and I started hyperventilating and had to wash my hand over and over again - for me, touching dead animals is like touching dead people Like oxymoron00, I also get worried if I order diet coke, they give me normal one, so unless I see them pur the drink in front of me, I get a friend to taste it. Ditto with coffee |

| The Lounge | Something that all should know before going to "true" vegeterians. | Jun 06 2008 15:08 (UTC) |

Original Post by jagox: That is a completely ridiculous statement! I know many males who are adequately nourished vegetarians. Getting protien when your vegetarian is easy as long as your eating a balanced diet. For example, an average man needs around 55g of protien (source - Vegetarian Society website) an example meal plan could be as follows (I also got this off the Vegetarian Society website): Lunch - 2 slices wholewheat bread (7g protein) Snack - 1/4 pint milk (4.6g protein) Dinner - 140g tofu (10.3g protein) Plus any other fruit and veggies, snacks and drinks This totals over the 55.5g protein reccomended for a male. Plus, most people would probably eat more than this so there for eat more protein For example of how vegtarian diets easily cater for nutritional requirements, have a look at these links to meal plans and the nutritional tables to go with each plan, and you will find all of the Recommended Daily Intakes (RDI) are all met or exceeded http://www.vegsoc.org/cordonvert/recipes/dayp lan/veggiemenu.html |

anna I put your stats into the Burn Meter tool, and at sedentary (no exercise at all) you need to eat at least 1600 calories to maintain and if you exercise you'll need to eat more than this. Do you exercise? How much? Also like ewwxroflzz said, make sure your eating enough "good fats" letmefalltoyou whats your age/height/weight? |

No one in my faimily is overweight bu they don't all eat healthily. My mum eats pretty healthily, shes vegetarian as well (I'm veggie too). She is one of those people who genuinely dislike things like chocolate and cakes, and she normally only has dessert if its a fruit crumble or pie, and eats tons of fruit and veggies. My dad eats pretty badly, he eats lots of meat, junk food and eats hardly any fruit/veggies. My siblings also eat pretty unhealthily. My mum buys loads of biscuits and crisps for them and bakes loads of cakes/cookies etc (She is an amazing cook! Her cakes and desserts - unfortuntely - are amazing) which is annoying as I have such weak will power I normally end up eating them too. My brother eats pretty badly, but my younger sister eats so much rubbish but is so skinny - its unfair! My older sister is at uni most of the year, and eats okish, but she put on weight from the alcohol and eating junk instead of proper meals when shes super busy. None of us eat take out or fast food though - my mum has never let us |

I don't have a scientific study, but in observation of my friends the ones who eat breakfast tend to eat better throught out the day. This might be due to other factors, but I knowif I don't eat breakfast I get more sugar cravings. Plus I just love breakfast! Breakfast foods are my favourite so even if breakfast didn't have any benefits I'd still eat it. |

Thanks yyonah, I'll keep a look out for things in those sections! There is some really good stuff in those sections - have you tried the Alpro Soya chocolate or vanilla dessert pot things they are so yummy! And they have so many alternative sounding cereals in those sections too. Yoghurt coated flapjacks sound amazing! I'm going to need to get down to a Holland & Baratt pronto, they might just be my new post exam food for the coming weeks. And yes! I love the Eat Natural yoghurt and almond bars they are amazingly good - but pretty expensive like £1.99 for 3 I think. p.s. I've sent you a PM telling you where I live, as I live in such a small place I'm a bit paranoid someone will recognise me! |

| Foods | Rising Prices...how to save | May 01 2008 22:30 (UTC) |

Try looking in independent greengrocers rather than supermarkets as often (at least where I live) the fruit and veggie prices are way cheaper. Also look out for frozen vegetables, as as these last for much longer and so theres less waste. Also try going to grocery stores in the evenings as this is where bread gets reduced. Most of this you can freeze, so if its not pre-sliced, slice it and put it in the freezer and take it out slice by slice as you need it. And don't buy pre-boxed "quick" oats like the Quaker ones for porridge. It may be quicker, but buying regular oats is so much cheaper (and theres less rubbish in them) |

Original Post by alicandra: Who ever told you about Oxbridge turning you away because of one B (at GCSE I'm guessing?) is talking a load of ****. I've been told countless times at university talks that they are looking for potential and a pattern of good achievment, but not perfection. And they do not interview parents. Ever, as far as I know. Apply, the best way of ensuring you won't get a place is by not applying. Besides your grades sound amazing - are you doing the IB? As for me, I think I want to do history at uni. Not too sure though. As for careers I have no realistic ideas, although my dream jobs would be either fashion journalism or fashion PR or becoming a political advisor to the government of some kind, preferably in the press department for the PM (me, ambitious? Never!) |

Original Post by yyonah: What kind of soy cheese do you use? I've seen a couple in supermarkets/health food shops but I'm not sure which ones are good. And that flapjack sounds to die for! mmm I love flapjack. (I'm not stalking your posts, I promise - you just eat the yummiest sounding foods!) Breakfast: Cheerios w/semi milk (eaten in like 2 minutes flat as I was running like 1/2 hour late!) Lunch: 3 oatcakes, Nature Valley granola bar, pear, apple and muller light yoghurt Snack: A small cupcake Dinner: Soup (lentil, tomatos, onion, pepper, potato, celery) wholewheat pitta bread and raw carrots Snack: eeeekkk 8 chocolates (I don't mean bars, as in chocolates from a box - and they were sooo good, but not healthy!) |

^ :P Heres a report I found on the internet about it: "The data considered by the Committee indicated that the extract has the potential to produce adverse effects in the male reproductive system that could affect fertility and that a metabolite produced by the human gut microflora, steviol, is genotoxic (ie. damages DNA)." off http://www.food.gov.uk/multimedia/webpage/ste via Obviously this is just one set of tests findings, so could be completely incorrect |

I don't want to scare mounger BUT Stevia has not been approved by any EU country, so I'm guessing there must still be some doubts over it (and please, no conspiracy theories. The entire of the European Union isn't being bribed by the sugar industry) |
