I too have had a bit of a slide these past few weeks.  But you can't change anything unless you make a continued effort! Laughing

Weight Loss Just started-already hit plateau Jan 17 2008

It may help you to weigh in weekly at the same day, same time.  Healthy weight loss occurs (for women) at 1-2 pounds on average a week.  Men average about 2-4 pounds a week.

The reason that a weekly weigh in versus a daily weigh in is recommended is that you can yo-yo between 2-5 pounds from day to day based on a number of factors, like water retention, etc. and it can get really disheartening to not see the needle move (or see it move up!) after each 24 hour period.

You are already doing the right thing for yourself, it sounds like, so stick to it and give it some time.  I know, I like the joy of pushing a button and having something happen the instant after I do it too, but weightloss is not quite like that Embarassed

Good luck!

I am working towards losing weight in time for my knee surgery (expected next month!).  Two years ago, I injured myself playing softball.  This curtailed my activity for quite sometime and I allowed the pounds to pack on.  I was my heaviest I had ever been at 223 pounds in December.  I managed to get myself to 200 by the time I started here and have lost another 15 pounds!  I am at a bit of a plateau now, but the motivation I have been getting on this site has been great.  I have 20 pounds to go for my happy weight and 40 for my BMI/doctor recommended weight.

My greatest challenge will be to keep the weight off while I am recovering from surgery!

I'm 30, 5'8".  I have just gone over and added you to my friends.  Good luck and keep us updated! :)

Fitness What kind of exercise is DDR? Sep 07 2007

Until I blew out my knee two years ago, I was an avid DDR player as well.  On expert, I would tend to pick up a pair of 1-2 pound hand weights and 'try' to do biscep crunches when not focusing on passing the songs!! :D

I have heard numerous comparisons to the DDR calorie count.  What the ingame count is designed to do is treat your activity like you are 'walking' through it.  i.e. taking steps, which makes the calorie readout highly inaccurate once you get up to the hard or expert levels.  Who walks at 300+ steps a minute?  It does not take heart rate into account.  I'll go fish out my links for you for information sake and post this evening. Cool

Ohmygoodness --- I nearly died laughing!  This was great to read the entire chain, particularly Molly's witty research.

I get my exercise from hunting down spiders for my husband.  He screams like a little girl when he sees them... I find them a mild curiousity and will take pity on those that are not harmful to me and take them outside.  Poor ickle spiders!

Mind you, I am less brave when it involves a substantial Wolf spider sitting unexpectedly on my shoulder.  Those buddies can be a bit creepy and big when you aren't expecting them.  (okay, even when you are!!)

I have been at a plateau for a few weeks now, but have found that a few days of low calorie intake and then a higher day has started to move the scale a pound or two in the right direction.  As long as you stick to it, it should shake it up a bit and get you past the plateau.

I tend to give up too quickly! Embarassed

Well, it has happened.  I have hit that plateau for the first time in a while.  I am sitting at 188-189, on the hairy edge of having to move on up again to the 190s.

I have been adding more exercise to the mix.  My goal this month is 1500 minutes which is between 45-50 minutes.

My wedding dress three years ago was a 10/12.  My goal is to fit into it by my anniversary this year (in two months).  I am getting there.  After that, I don't really know what size I *dream* of.  Whatever size makes me look and feel like a healthy, happy, sexy momma? :)

I eat 3 meals a day  My daily intake is usually between 1400-1500 daily.

So far, I have been steadily losing two pounds a week.  I would consider that pretty successful.

I am into the 180s club as of this week!  I always wait for a second week of success before 'officially' calling it. :)

I actually went up a pound or two this week (189), but my jeans that I bought (my treat to myself for getting into the 180s) last week are looser!  Must be the replacement muscle.

You have all probably heard that muscle weighs more than fat.  This never hit home until I was handed a representation of a pound of muscle and a pound of fat.  The fat replica was lumpy and had to be held with both hands.  The muscle replica was lean and only needed to rest in one hand.  It was definitely an eye-opener.

So, my instructor's idea was to call it fat loss instead of weight loss.  She measured by % of body fat, size and fit of your clothes and THEN the scale.  So don't worry if you aren't moving on the scale, but your clothes are looser!  It is a good sign!

chrysbiz - yep, curling, where you push/throw rocks down the ice.  And, might I add, sweep like a son-of-a-gun to get them to the other end!  That is a workout and a half but a lot of fun! :)   Season is over this week, however, so I'll have to get something to replace it.

lmnelson - a few tips for pizza and spice cake ;).  Don't deny yourself completely.  That never works for me.  When my skinny-thinny hubby comes home with a pizza, I allow myself one or two pieces.  I dab the excess grease off the top (about 100-calories of savings for some places!! - Prevention Magazine tip).  It is enough of a production that, along with my heart-to-heart conversations about my attempts to lose weight, my husband realizes that even if he is trying to help (so I don't have to cook), he is actually hurting.

poetlba -I agree with pompey.  I have been losing ~2 pounds a week steadily by simply reducing my calories intake by 500 a day instead of the 'recommended daily intake to lose' from my profile.  The recommendation comes from an assumption that you will maintain your current lifestyle/activity level.  It assumes the only thing that will change will be your intake of food.  Good luck!  You can do it. :)

On that note, I am off to the 180s-club.  I hope to see you all there!
