| I don't consider these silly sayings, but these mantras have worked in the past:
'Don't want it, Don't need it' when thinking about eating when not actually hungry. 'sweat + sacrifice = success' ok, that was from LA Fitness, but it was great to read & repeat while on the treadmill. a Weight Watchers favourite when encouraging to journal food: 'if you bite it, write it.' |

That sucks- I feel for you. All I can say is hang tough- you'll get through it. I agree with the other poster about getting to know yourself and figuring out what you want to do for you. Please, please do not lose your sanity over this. |

| or, add some lite weights if a resistance machine is unavailable.
I usually do crunches with a 10-15lb weight (but I've built up to that, I started w/ 5lbs). You could also try mixing up your ab routine with different exercises). |

| I'm neurotic about making sure the garage-door is closed. I have to say 'the garage-door is shut' or else I'll have to turn back and double check. I've actually called home & some neighbors to make sure it's shut.
I have to double check that I've locked the truck doors. I have to double check that all the doors are locked (and the garage door is shut) at night before I go to bed. |

| Yes, the pools are still open. Eldorado pool has lap swimming during the week & public & lap during the weekend (at least thru Sept). Go to http://www.scottsdaleaz.gov/parks.asp to get information on the pool closest to you.
Eldo is heated, so they swim year-round. It's also the pool used by Coronado HS. |

| My natural body type is very muscular - I've always been stronger than many of my peers- even the boys when younger. I'm also on the shorter side- 5' or so. It works out that at about 150lbs, I'm a size 6-8. If I was 135lbs, I'd start to look sick with my ribs pointing out- get the picture?? Ok, so I'm strong- let's play up to that: I'm athletic and I've played sports since t-ball when I was 5, then swimming thru high school. Great, maintained my weight 145-150lbs (where I happiest). Started college, stopped sports and gained a little- never weighed more than 160lbs (still doing ok). Had a job at Home Depot- pretty active with walking around & throwing freight. Started going to bars at 23, but since I was actively working, maintained the 145-160lbs. After college, started a sedentary job (still not exercising). Started gaining a little at a time. But not too bad still. Took over a year at the desk job to start gaining. Then I fell in love and had my heartbroken. Kinda lost myself for awhile. Gained more weight (probably at about 175lbs now). Found myself again, started exercising lost 10lbs (yea!) and found my husband. Got comfortable, gained weight- was at 195lbs!! Got engaged and started exercising again for the wedding. Got down to about 165lbs and reached my dual goals of losing weight for the wedding and completing a sprint triathlon. yea!!! After the wedding and race, I kinda fell off my exercising schedule and started increasing my food intake. The next year, I worked HORRENDOUS hours (60hrs + per week), stopped exercising all together, and emotionally ate. Trying to figure out the whole marriage thing and kida lost myself again. Gained back 25lbs +. Now, I've found myself again. My work hours have been reduced to a normal 40hr wk and I've acheived a balance with my husband and our (still new) marriage. We're coming up on 2yrs :) I have a few new challenges: 1. Self-motivation: used to be really good. Generally still pretty good, but sometimes (ok, more often than not), I get into a 'mood' where I don't care & just eat, eat, eat. I know what I'm doing, but can't seem to stop. Then start to feel bad. 2. Will-power: used to be really good at this, too. Now, I'm really good in the mornings, but the afternoons absolutely kill me. I, again, get into a 'mood' and eat, eat, eat. |

| I did one Oct 2005- it was one of my 2-top goals that year; the other was getting married. I accomplished both ;)
I really enjoyed it, but have since shied away and gained some weight back. The people were fun! One older lady inspired me to sprint across the finish line. I live in the Phoenix area and there are several left this year. One is Sep 23rd & another I planned for is Oct 21st. They do have another on Thanksgiving, but is too far away to do + dinner with the family. The upcoming 2 are in the pool. I haven't yet done an open water, but there will be one next year. The season here is Feb- Nov. Befor my first one, I had purchased triathlon clothing that helped cut down time in the transition. Only having to put socks & shoes really helped. I don't have cleats on my bike, just clips I slip my toes into. My bike shoes are my running shoes :) |
