Foods Not drinking enough water Sep 09 2008

one thing that has helped me is trying to drink a bottle of 1.5litres a day. I open it in the morning and try to finish it by night. I keep it around all day long and just take little quantities whenever i see it. It's been working cause most of the time I do drink the whole bottle. And we're talking about someone who used to drink a glass a day maximum.

Lentils and beans do have a lot of iron, but lots of people have told me that you have to take them with vitamin C so that your body actually absorbs the iron. I try having a fruit like kiwi (packed with vitamin C) after eating lentils.

I spend about $40. It's just me, and I'm a college student. I try not to spend any more money on food during the week, but I sometimes eat out as well.

If you eat lots of veggies with lunch and dinner(half of your plate for exemple), and eat brown rice/whole-wheat pasta etc, you will have no problem reaching 25g. I used to eat 10g a day, and now sometimes i go over 30g without even trying!

Lately I've been having(along with black coffee) a whole wheat toasted english muffin with 2 teaspoons of natural peanut butter, one teaspoon for each side. Sometimes i also have 2 egg whites with it. Carbs, fiber, fat and protein! Honestly, this keeps me full for like 6 hours. Try it!

Whenever I get almonds I can't stop binging on them. They are crunchy and have great taste, and everytime I need something to chew on, I take 5 almonds. But that could become like 50 almonds in a day. So I took the (hard lol) decision to not buy them anymore, and I try to get my good fats from natural peanut butter and olive oil. It is not easy, but it has been the only solution for me. You did well throwing them away!

Skippy is not that bad but it does have a lot of sodium. If you get natural peanut butter, you'll have less sodium. The calories are the same but they come from fat and protein and no carbs(Skippy has carbs as well). I eat about a tablespoon of natural peanut butter a day, usually during breakfast. The fat and protein keeps you full longer. Plus, its really good in oatmeal, on an english mufiin or even with fruit.

Nothing bad about it,  you just have to eat it in moderation.

For today I would have eaten about 1800 really. 2 hours of ballet is about 500 burned calories. But I was planning on eating them after class( I hate going to class on a full stomach). Should i have a bigger breakfast? Is it important to eat them before exercising? I'm so full with my english muffin and peanut butter!

I thought bouillon and broth was the same, broth is bouillon in french, or so I thought...

Thanks for your answer, it does help. But on the package there are no indications I'm afraid. I guess I'll use the Knorr indication. There aren't that many calories, but a lot of sodium!

I have been taking the pill for a year now (I'm not sexually active, i just had lots of problems with my period) and I love it. Side-effects: just bigger boobs for me! I was a 32A and because a 34B. I'm satisfied with that:)

I guess it depends on the person. A friend of mine gained 5 kilos in a month.

Only my brother knows and i dont want anyone else to know considering his reaction. He thinks what i"m doing is irrational. Not one single member of my family has ever been on a diet, and they wouldnt understand that I'm just trying to maintain my weight and that I like knowing that I eat what I should be eating everyday.

Fitness Ballet! Nov 15 2007

I started taking ballet classes again this year(though just once a week) after taking classes for 13 years and 3 years of not dancing at all. It was very hard to get back on track, but its so worth it. For me, ballet is complete exercice: you use ALL the muscles in your body in order to dance. People make it look easy-it is NOT easy at all.

If you have never done it, it will be kinda hard to get your body to do the 'turn-out' as you call it. But dont give up, keep on working on it, and I'm sure you will get better every time. I have seen people start in their 30s and reaching a good level.

If you have any questions I'd be happy to help you more!

Foods 42g of fiber! Nov 08 2007

Thank you for your answers...the problem is that I'm not intentionnaly trying to eat that much fiber. It's just the things I like that contain a lot of it. For example today I had oatmeal and milk for breakfast, a banana, almonds, bulgur(loads of fiber)  beans and salad at lunch, an apple, air-popped popcorn, and for dinner broccoli and chicken. That's a normal one day menu isnt it? Should I replace for example bulgur with white rice something? That article got me thinking, I have low iron levels....

I have the same problem, I'm addited to almonds. I'm starting to think i should just not buy them and get my healthy fat from other products. I think that if your had more than 40% of fat its a bit too much. Could be wrong though!

Foods Raw vs. Cooked Vegetables? Oct 05 2007

I have a question: I had read somewhere that microwaving and frying is better than boiling veggies so the vitamins stay. Last night I put aubergines, tomatoes, broccoli, mushroom and zucchini in a pan with some soy sauce and no oil and I fried it for about 10 minutes. The taste was lovely, and it was not real frying cause I didnt use any oil. What do you think? Is it a good idea or not?
Foods What are the foods that are ALWAYS on your Grocery List Sep 20 2007

  • Fresh non-fat milk
  • Brown bread
  • Brown rice
  • Tomatoes
  • Cucumber-celeri-lettuce
  • broccoli
  • non-fat yogurt
  • cereal(weetabix or oatmeal)
  • Water of course
  • non-fat cheese
  • soy steaks and a piece of chicken or fish for protein.
That's about it. I try to go once a week, but there are things i buy rarely, like beans or lentils, you buy one package and you keep it for 3 months.
Fitness anyone doing core strengthening? Jun 22 2007

Something that has really helped me was pilates. I never took regular classes(it's so expensive here:( ) but since I did ballet for a long time, it was a good way to 'wake' my core muscles up. So I recommend it if you want to strengthen your core. Also, i heard that yoga does it as well.
Recipes Student meals? Low-Calorie, Healthy, and most importantly CHEAP! Jun 21 2007

I'm a student as well and I find it really hard to eat like I want to within my budget...What's most expensive here is fruit and vegetables(I'm in France). And that's what I live on!

One thing I use a lot is tuna. It's quite cheap, and you can use it for lots of  stuff-salads, sandwiches, even with pasta!Last year, my first year, I used to it just pasta...Cause I was just not organised enough to have meat/proteins home. I thought I could live with just carbs...guess what, I put on 5 kilos! And I was wondering why caues I wasnt eating a lot...After I started logging what I eat, I realised I have lots of trouble getting enough protein into my diet.

Another food I use a lot is broccoli! With everything-pasta, meat, salads. It has protein and it's easy to prepare, you just boil it for 15 minutes.

A friend of mine says that we crave so many things because a woman burns more calories than usual on the days before and during her period. I dont know, it doesnt sound right, could it be true? Cause if it is I will feel less guilty about eating a whole bar of chocolate for like 3 days in a row....
Foods Getting up at 7am = eating like there's no tomorrow Jun 11 2007
08:46 (UTC)
I also get up early to go to uni and i dont have time to snack between breakfast and lunch. I have found that high fiber cereal keeps me very full, like ALl-Bran or weetabix(I've discovered them last week:)). But when I also put some protein in other than milk-cheese or an egg- i'm as full as I can get till 13h!

Another solution is oats with milk(i dont bake it, I just eat it with milk), and a tablespoon of honey and nuts, either almonds or walnuts(not a lot cause they are VERY high cal). Also keeps me full.

Just try to have more protein, fat, and fiber.
