hi all - i'm back now! :)

thank you for all your condolences.  it's been tough 'cause although grandma was quite old, all of this happened so suddenly.  it seems as if she simply lost her will to live.  it's amazing how powerful our minds are.  vicky & brianne - hubby was VERY close to his grandparents, like a second set of parents exactly.  that's why i became close to them.  i've only known her for 10 yrs, but it was still very hard.

my week of vacation was wonderful and relaxing ... there's nothing like an ocean and a beach (and a hot tub) to just slow things down and make life start moving at a more peaceful pace!  we had a great time and i did cheat a decent amount ... heehee.

well, i got back on sunday and weighed myself monday morning.  it said i was 133.00 ... i though weee, i can't believe i got away with it!  but tuesday, my weight was 134.5 ... i assumed it was my muscles retaining water since i hadn't done heavy weights for a week.  but YIKES, wednesday was 135.5 and this morning (thurs) was 136.0 ... what is happening!?  this is HORRIBLE!  any advice?  i can totally believe i gained 1-1.5 lbs ... but 3, no way!!  i'm feeling scared to look at the scale tomorrow.  does it take this long for weight gain to kick in?  is it possible it's still increasing from last week?

colleen - sounds like you are doing wonderfully with your workout challenge - WTG!!  i think you should run to target, walmart, play it again sports or something and just pick up some 5lb weights.  personally, i find the jugs of water awkward.

joan - what the heck happened to you!?  what are hankles (i do get the ankles, but what's the h?)?  it sounds like it must've been something awful.  i think you may need to slow things down a bit so you can work out all the time.  it seems you're a month on, then a month injured lately and that sucks.

brigitte - way to go with all the exercise, sounds like you're doing well!  also, great job with the 5k!  40 minutes is really good for just involving walking in the 5k, let alone the stroller!  YOU ROCK!! :)  what's next, 10K? :)  i'd really like to do a 10k some day.

hey ladies!  i was 133.0 today and friday is an official weigh-in day for me, so that's pretty awesome (132.5 is my all time lowest, but i've only seen it once or twice).  anyway, i read all the entries, but can't really reply today ... but looks like everyone's doing great!  hubby's grandma (who we were really close to) passed away last night, so i need to jam and get my work done so we can drive out to the east bay tonight to be with the fam.  i don't know how much i'll be on before my vacation, so it may be awhile!  take care all, keep up the good work and choose weight loss! :P

wow stacey!  where'd you find that out?  holy smokes!!  why does the good stuff have to be so bad?

i'll catch up later guys, promise!  i was 133.0 today though, whoo!!  think good things for me for tomorrow as it's an official day.  hubby's has been sooo good at controlling my wine craving (he keeps saying no, lol) ... red wine eases my cramps, so it's sooooo tempting, but i've been good!!!

stacey - i think the one you found on calorie king is for the dinner portion.  make sure though that you eat enough for lunch.  order the chicken and veggies, eat slowly and stop when you're 70% full.  oh crap, i'm all mixed up, i think you're going for dinner, LOL!  well then, ignore the calories i put down in my first entry. :)

i have to go back and read still, but saw Stacey's entry.  It looks like that chicken is a great choice, only 328 calories.  just be careful on the breadsticks, i don't know what they are.  personally for lunch, i like to get the salad and soup and stick with the minestrone soup, but that's me ... here's a link to their healthier fare - they've always been good about having healthier stuff on their menu as well, even since i was a kid!

as for lentils, someone posted this recipe the other day.

good morning all!  i slept MUCH better last night and am therefore feeling much better today - yay!  still a little tired today, but better. :)  my weight is gradually going down from that giant increase on monday.  today the scale flashed 133.5 then settled on 134.0.  that's cool.  i did a new video last night 'cause i was tired and thought it would peak my interest more.  well, it wasn't so new as it was really old and i hadn't done it in years and years.  i thought it was ok, but i'm feeling it today, so that's great!

vicki - thanks for the encouragement on not counting.  it's funny 'cause last night hubby was like, what would you guess this meal is?  i was like, OMG, the second day i'm free you're asking me that?  haha, i told him i was sure it was within but didn't want to think through the whole thing ... it was a complicated salad and a slice of boboli with all kinds of yummy things on top ... didn't really want to attempt it, LOL!

lisa - welcome!  great job with the workout and being the DD last night!

stacey - tylenol pm's work really well for me.  i took one the night before my wedding to ensure my beauty sleep! :P  but for me, i have to be sure i have at least 9 hrs to sleep or else i feel groggy ... just a warning. way to keep a positive attitude and keep us all in check! :)

cassie - WTG squeezing that workout in!  i was confident you could ... you're very dedicated!  ugh, that lady at the meeting sounds annoying!  i hate when people impose rules on others, it's an adult meeting, but whatever.

colleen - you're doing AWESOME!!  great job on completing day 2!  HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!  give yourself some freedoms today! :)

brianne - totally understandable that you're busy!!  sooo exciting that your wedding is getting so close!  it will be wonderful! :D  it is the best party ever!  just be sure to check back in with us after the wedding and honeymoon are over!  speaking of ... where is your honeymoon going to be?

joan - i hear ya about jelly legs, i had jelly arms yesterday!  don't worry about your scale, you know it's whacked out for whatever reason ... it will definitely go right back down!  it's on it's way already! :)  i agree with brigitte, your house, your sale, your way!  a pro/con list is a great idea.

nicky - smart about sneaking that tbsp - i fully understand not wanting to hear crap, it gets so annoying!

sherry - sucks that yesterday went bad, but you know what to do... just get back to it and drink that water!  fun about the babies!!  wow, lots of them!

anna - i think once you take control things will get better for you.  and as joan said, food isn't going to fix anything!  you should focus your energy toward looking for a way out instead of turning to food - you CAN do it!

brigitte - when is the 5k?  is it this weekend?  yay, glad the weight is going back down!  good job getting the wog in!!  sorry about the inconsiderate neighbor, annoying!

tami - sorry about the weight flux, but it happens.  hope you have fun with all the 9 yr olds and don't get too stressed!  when is your race?

alizus - YAY on the healthy weight, what an exciting day!  keep up the good work and try to incorporate weight lifting to help with that toning!

holly - you can fight the weekend gain!

argh brigitte, your sleep problems must be contagious, LOL!  sorry your weight is still up.  i don't log mine when it's ridiculously and unexplicably high either.  it'll go down.  i wish you guys would eat some hummers, i hate those things!

brigitte - LOL, everyone should be forwarned of your craziness really, hahaha!  yum on the fruit smoothie!  and it sounds like you got your answer ... protein powder does have calories.

cassie - good that you took the night off from working out!  sounds like it was time and your body is prolly thanking you.  it's ok if you take today off too, it's life, just be sure you get your body moving again on wednesday!!  your dress is coming along very nicely ... looking good!  i agree that exercise really helps with the cramps, it's just hard to convince yourself of that beforehand, LOL!  yeah, wanting to die in the corner is no good ... it's always a pleasure when that's over.  YAY on your new low!!  mmm, hubby just made rice crispy treats in my house ... YUM!  i've been pretty good i think though.  last night i a little bit smaller of a dinner and only had one ... it was worth it! :D

alizus - welcome!  you can do it, you just gotta keep at it! :)  as if i'm one to talk, i stopped before my goal, but whatever, you gotta stop when you're happy. :)  i don't know about believing, but i do know the weight loss gets harder and harder the closer to goal you get!  how much have you lost so far?  your pics are looking great!  well, except for that car accident, ouch!

sherry - not bad for being home - great job keeping yourself in check!

stacey - YAY on the new monthly low!!  bummer that you slept in, i really could've used that today!  awesome that the low-sodium turkey is the same price.  i find that they rarely make the healthier stuff in the generic cheaper brands ... GRRRRR ... or in the larger containers ... GRRRRR ... one day!  thanks for your confidence in me not counting! :)  it was really weird yesterday.  i found myself counting in my head on my drive home from work just to make sure, LOL!  good job tossing out the junk food!

nicky - sorry you're still feeling crappy.  your weight is up due to ttom, i'm sure!!  i'm feeling a little less bloated today, but i'm pretty sure it'll kick in again soon.  i wore looser clothing today so maybe that's helping my comfort level as well.  yikes, 90 minutes of spins, i'd be super afraid too!!

jenn - welcome back. :)  hey, i was wondering, how tall are you?

joan - sorry your morning is going so crappy.  soooo sucky about your weight sky-rocketing, what the heck is going on with your body?  and that's really crappy about your house too ... that's way lower!  i think it's not the greatest time to sell and that must be why. :(  are you still making money if you make the reduction?  maybe you could wait to sell?  and the guilt is good for you, it keeps you in check! :)  look what happened when we all didn't feel guilty, LOL!

as for me, i got home from work later than expected last night and didn't end up working out.  then i couldn't get to sleep last night. :( :(  soooo, i'm completely beat today!  it sucks.  my scale was a little kinder though, 134.5 ... i'm expecting good things come friday.  if i make it out of the office in time, i'll go to spins tonight, otherwise i'll do a video.

well, last night we checked out the weather for the week at the beach ... argh, not looking good.  it may be rainy the whole time. :(  our vacation starts next monday or tuesday (we may stay home monday) so hopefully the weather forcast will change by then.  if it is rainy though, i'll bring some workout videos with me for exercise and maybe go to target and pick up a couple games to keep us busy indoors.  i'm sure the hot tub overlooking the beach will still be appealing even if it is raining. :)

holy moly, this forum is just bustling today/this weekend ... i guess it's the number of people on here these days.  it's all good, a slow room is no fun! :)

as for losing a 1/2 lb in the shower ... no clue why, it just is. :)  now watch, i'll get up tomorrow and you'll all be in my house, lining up, wanting to use my shower, LMAO!

brigitte - i forgot to say CONGRATULATIONS on reaching your goal over the weekend!!  you're doing sooooo well!  what an awesome reward for a period of time (quitting smoking) that is not so great!!  you're are doing amazing things for yourself!

colleen - WTG!!!  you're on your way to success!!  i absolutely agree that counting is necessary, but i've been doing this for such a long time (since January) and have been maintaining for the last 3 months ... and i can't count forever, LOL!  i figure i'll keep an eye on my weight and if i see it budge up at all, i'll count again to keep myself in check.  adding friends is easy.  just go to the person's profile page and near the top, click on 'add as friend'.

cassie - LOL, you consider string cheese splurging?  i have it every day with my fruit.  i was finding that the sugar kick from my afternoon snack of fruit was making me more hungry after i ate it, but combined with some protein (string cheese), it stays with me a lot longer.  my favorite is the frigo light string cheese ... i have to go to a certain grocery store to find it though.

lemntwist - weekends used to be slow in here ... you know, brigitte talking to herself, LOL, but these days it seems to be hopping!  nice that your fiance noticed your weight loss, although i agree that bony butt is no good, hahaha.  do you live in california?  where at?  i'm in the bay area.  greek food has lots of oil, but also has lots of fiber.  eat slow and you'll realize when you're full. :)

sherry - LMAO about standing on your head!  isn't it amazing to look back!  good job with dinner tonight, sounds yummy!

nicky - my spins class is an hour long, yikes!  it kicks my a$$!  yeah, no clue about the shower thing, maybe it's 'cause i like hot showers and dehydrate myself while i'm in there, LOL!  who knows, but when my weight is super awful, i check again afterwards to see if there's any movement to make me feel better. :)  as for rewards, i try to make all my rewards non-food related.  my first reward was my HRM, then some expensive mascara i wanted, then a purse and highlights.  i like the non-food reward also 'cause when you use the item over and over you remember your achievements!  i hear you about TTOM, it SUCKS!!!!! ARGH, my tummy has been bloating up more and more all day, UGH!  have fun on your run and babysitting and doggy dates!!  lots of fun stuff for you!

i'm about to shut down the computer and head home for some weight lifting ... see ya later!
Weight Loss Is beer ruining my progress? Oct 08 2007

south - it depends how you look at it.  hard liquor has more alcohol bang for calorie buck, that's for sure.  but if you're gonna have 4 beers or four gin and tonics in the night, it's about the same calories.  but if you'll have 8 beers or four gin and tonics, clearly the mixed drink is the better option.

jaclyna - you either have to work the beer into calorie allotment or cut it out, it all depends on how worth it is to you.  personally, i'll work out really hard in the AM on days i'm gonna go out to try and counteract some of the damage.

WOW sherry!!  What an improvement for both of you!!  you two look like one hot couple now! :P

joan - i'm going to start not counting this week, so i'll be home and doing my usual.  i figure it's about time since i've held my weight steady for 3 months now.  next week when i'm on vacation, i will certainly be splurging more than usual, but i'll also incorporate exercise into my every-day activities.  we usually go for runs on the beach, one day we'll go kayaking and i'm looking for more fun exercises, such as hiking in the area.  and i agree about the worst that can happen ... i'd really like to have a real vacation and not be counting every morsel i put in my mouth.  you know, there's a lot of it engrained in my head these days too.  i was pretty tipsy on saturday night and someone was handing out coronas with salt on the rim and although tipsy, said 'no salt on mine please'.  i know, i know, i shouldn't have been having the corona in the first place, but :P too bad! :D

good morning all.  sorry i'm so late to post, but i had pages and pages of reading to do, oh my!  and although i read it all, there's no way i can respond to it all ... you guys were busy this weekend!!

my scale weight was horrible today 135.5 (was 136.0 before my shower, ugh), but was 132.5 yesterday. :(  i'm certain it's 'cause ttom is going to start tomorrow. i'm feeling gross 'cause all my clothes are feeling super tight today as well.  well, big change for me, i'm going to stop counting for awhile.  i feel like i'm really getting it down, getting sick of tracking everything and know that i need to stop counting at some point, so why not now?  i'll just give it a shot and keep an eye on my weight.  next week we're off to mendocino - house on the beach - to spend a week, ahhh, can't wait!

brigitte - that dress looks amazing on you!!  great choice! :)

sherry - great job on the run!  cheeze it's won't kill you, just log it and move on. :)  WTG getting some weights in as well!  ahh, i'm jealous, i wish i were off tomorrow, LOL!  we'd love to see before pics, it's always encouraging to see the big changes.  i hear ya about boys losing weight easily.  i've joked through this whole process that my hubby was on a piggy back diet 'cause he kept finding himself losing weight just because of my changes ... brat! LOL!

joan - crazy that you forgot to weigh yourself, LOL!  you must be getting confident about your weight now that you hit goal.  WTG on the wogging, that's awesome!  fun to have new workout gear, that always pumps me up about my next workout! :)

cassie - glad you were able to do your aerobics again!  awesome on your new low - looks like that hard workout yesteray really paid off!  oooo, i would love to see a pic of your dress!

stacey - yikes, sounds like a bad food weekend!!  for my bday, i had whatever i wanted and just said ... calories don't count today! LOL!  oh well.  it felt weird to feel guilty about cake and eating out on my bday, so i just didn't, LOL!!  argh, don't you hate the 2lb movement in weight in just a day, so annoying!!  stacey, awesome on your new low sodium turkey.  we switched to that too, but it seems to be more expensive.  we've now started reading the labels closely and found that some of the turkey that doesn't say low sodium actually is and is cheaper.  pretty cool.

vicki - YAY! you're back!!  glad you finished the move ... the moving part anyway, LOL, now for the unpacking!  i HATE unpacking, it's so much worse than packing ... although it can sometimes be fun to sort through stuff and really organize it.  awesome on your new low!!

colleen - i sure hope we can all relate to bodies tightening up and looking better, LOL!  isn't it such an encouraging feeling? :)  good luck with the fitness challenge, it will probably be the push you need!

wow, soraya and cassie - you two sure snuck in there while i was posting! :)

soraya - glad that you think the x's on the calendar could work for you, it really worked for me.  usually dehydration will temporarily take you down a pound or two.  what are you normally doing for exercise?  can you switch it up more?  that really made the difference for me.  i haven't read about this mind to muscle connection ... sounds interesting.

cassie - your elliptical sounds super sophisticated!  i could prolly handle the ellitical more often if it had all those features, that's awesome!  i'll wait for joan to explain HIIT, i'm too tired, LOL!  such a bummer your aerobics class is cancelled, i hate when you plan a workout and it just doesn't pan out.  wow, cheese stuffed pretzels, those sound yummy, keep 'em away from me! :)

cassie - thanks for the input, that helps!  i think i won't worry until i get an opportunity to talk to a doc about it.  it sounds like it isn't too much of an issue until the second trimester.  awesome about your body fat % going down, WTG!!  that's even more important than the scale!

hi colleen, welcome!  don't worry too much, fluctuations are normal!  too much sodium is the usual culprit though!

imogene - CONGRATS, you're doing great!

stacey - yeah, it's tough when you don't see eachother much 'cause when you do, you want to be able to every activity together.  i think joan's idea of a salad before is a good thought as well.  wow, that's more calories than i expected from life savers.  i don't eat them to often, but when i do, i usually gulp down half a package and don't count them.

joan - aren't hungry days ANNOYING!!  i find them less annoying than snacky days though 'cause at least you're prolly burning more than normal for whatever reason.  man, this tiredness has got to go, i even look like crap when i look in the mirror!  TGIF!!  as for injections, i could maybe do it myself, but i figure it's less freaky to just receive it and i don't think it's as freaky to give one if it's not to yourself, so i think it should work ... we shall see.  yeah, i'll check with my doc, i want to do all the exercise i can.  she already asked me to cut down to only a half hour a day, but i think she's worrying about my body fat % which i don't think we should be worried about unfortunately, LOL!  i was surprised she could look at me in person and actually suggest that that could be a problem!

lemontwist - welcome and WTG on all your hard work so far!  personally, i like free weights more than the exercise bands, but lots of people feel the opposite, so give it a try and hopefully you enjoy them!

brigitte - being tired and having no energy SUCKS!!  i'm sorry you're in my boat. :(  have you thrown out all cigarettes?  if not, you need to.  you will be moody, try to ignore it and keep busy even if it hurts.  the kids go back to school monday, right?  it will help you to get some exercise in even if you don't want to.  maybe you could do just part of your biggest loser video?  sorry your scale is such a tease, but nice that you're back down to 125.5 all the same! :)  you're doing an amazing thing for yourself brigitte and although it's painful and sucky now, when you get through this you'll look back and be so glad you did!!  try to focus on your upcoming race and exercise for that reason!  you might be right that i'm still recovering from my trip, it makes me feel wimpy.  oh well.  hubby thinks i may be fighting a cold or something off, but whatever the reason, i'm beat!  yeah, the injection idea is scary, but they don't really ask if you can handle it, they just tell you it's what you have to do ... yikes!  i just gotta keep my eye on the prize ... and so do you for that matter! :D

jenn - awesome on the dr's weight!  ususally it's the opposite since they don't let you take anything off.  nice about your mom's comment ... i think some people are just like that, look lighter than they are.  i think i'm that way and i think it's do to the way i'm built, i gain/lose all over fairly evenly and don't carry all of my weight in one spot.  i LOVE thai food, but very little of it is good for you unfortunately.  the curries are yummy, but they're all made with coconut milk and really fatty.  the healthiest choices would be something with lots of veggies or the bbq pork.  drunken noodles (pad kee mau, i think) are soooo yummy, but not so great for you either, LOL!  good luck to you! :)

lots to catch up on ... seems i missed a very busy day! :)

i've been so tired this week.  i don't know what's wrong with me.  it's annoying mainly 'cause i don't want to accomplish anything, want to snack more and don't want to work out. :(  i pushed myself and did my weight training yesterday and i have a nice sore feeling today.  i'm planning to run with hubby tonight which should be good to loosen up my legs.  as for my weight, i think i gained a pound over the course of my family being here and going to texas 'cause i'm still at 134.0 ... only down 1/2 lb since monday.  the lunch with my boss went super well.  i have such a good feeling about him and the work i'll be doing in the future!

kinda crazy, i just went to 'injection class' last night to learn how to give myself hormone shots, ewe.  i'm gonna make hubby do it. :)  anyway, as i start this process, i have no idea how it will effect workouts.  does anyone know anything about the kind of workouts you should be doing while trying to get pregnant/once pregnant?  can you just do everything the same or is that not a good idea?

as for plateau discussions ... i was stuck at 138 for over four weeks, drove me nuts!  i tried all kinds of things to try and get off the plateau, but the one thing i credit my success with is that i increased my weight training.  i had previosly been doing all cardio with very little weight training and the added weight training seemed to be the push my body needed!

as for the caffeine subject, i drink water all day and just one diet dr pepper with lunch, not bad!  once in awhile i splurge and get a chai tea latte from starbucks, but that's like twice a month, nothing to write home about. :)

cassie - thanks for the lentil idea! :)  i went out with the new boss and just had a cup of lentils (which i got grief for, LOL), but that helped even out my high calorie morning.  don't worry about some fluctuations.  sometimes a good workout will make your muscles retain water so sometimes you just don't know why you're going up but if your overall trend is down, you're all good! :)  awesome job on the workout!

brianne - you're doing GREAT!  131.2 = wow!

soraya/nicky - i used to struggle with the wine thing too.  i use to feel i deserved a glass of wine each day when i got home!  i often would do the same as you ... one would lead to two ... then food then how 'bout another ... bad!! ;)  when i tell myself i can't have things, i want them so much more ... that's just me!  so what i did at first was to say i had to go at least 3 days each week without any alcohol ... any three days ... and when i didn't drink i'd give myself a checkmark on the calendar on the wall.  i'd expect to see three checks at the end of each week.  eventually i upped that to 4.  now i don't even use the check marks anymore (after using them for almost a year, LOL!) 'cause i really don't drink on week nights now without good reason.  don't get me wrong, i'm tempted to at times, but i just think about how happy i'll be with myself in the morning if i don't.  also, i (somehow) convinced my hubby to do this with me and it really helped to not see him drinking when i was trying so hard not to ... but he has way more self control than i do.

nicky - awesome job sticking to the spins class despite no teacher, WTG!  i'd be sooo dissapointed if i went to class and the teacher didn't show up!

shelly - not only is spinning a bike class, but they use a different type of stationary bike.  they have this big heavy wheel so once you get going, it's really smooth.  i think it's meant to feel more like a real bikers' biking experience.  it's a fun and intense class, super high energy music and you burn about 10 calories per minutes, amazing!  good job with the 2 mile jog again, you're doing great!  awesome about the waitress' comment ... you must be looking fantastic!

stacey - good job on getting through the prepared meals safely! :)  as for the tough night last night, that's what happens to me when i'm starving!  i feel bad, but i'll eat without hubby if i'm hungry like that 'cause otherwise i get the bad results too.  another thing i've done is i'll eat one of the sides while i wait for him to get home, then i can have the main meal with him and he can have his sides.  that way i eat part of what i planned to eat, just a little earlier and i can then hold off.  do life savers have many calories?

heather - congrats on the clothes fitting better!  sorry your first year of marriage is so hard. :(  i had an opposite experience, but we knew eachother really well and for a long time before we got married, so that may be why.  keep at it, try to trust each other lots and help eachother out at much as possible (being thoughtful of eachother goes a LONG way!) and i'm sure things will look up!

joan - decisions, decisions!  but those are great ones to have to make!  how the heck do you end up sleep eating, LOL!  for me, sleep is my only safe time, heehee.

tami - i absoluately agree that those hungry days really even out with the other days around it.  i gave in quite a bit on wednesday, but did super well on thursday!  isn't it weird how our bodies work?  CONGRATS on reaching your goal!!  i know you're waiting for your trend line, but, holy cow, give yourself a pat on the back!!  you've made it ... and then some! :D

argh!  i'm having a super hungry day!  i'm already nearly to 600 calories and it's only 11am!!  OMG!

well, i made it to my spins class last night and it was awesome to be back!  i'm going to do weight lifting tonight and am really looking forward to that as well.  my new boss just started this week.  he really gives off a good vibe, so that is good.  he asked me out to lunch today and i think it will be a good career move to go, so i will! :)

brianne - wow on the bikram yoga, sounds intense!!  that's the hot yoga, right?  i've never done it before, but i would be tempted to go if i had the opportunity as well!  YAY on tying the 131.3 ... you'll get lower soon, you will!

brigitte - nice that you got to work on a fun art project yesterday ... much different than the diet focus for sure!  sorry the cat attacked, that sucks!

joan-  sorry the scale didn't hit the desired number, but soon, SOON! :)  and what great progress you've made so far!!

nicky - dwogged, LOL!!  good job with the dwogging! :)

edit: joan - didn't read those numbers correctly, thought it went up to 133.6 ... sorry!!  WAY TO GO!!!! you're AMAZING!!!  congrats!

there are many videos that don't involve dancing and coordination.  one video that i think is simple, but a very good workout is slim in 6.  it may be time to invest in either a dvd player or some additional at-home equipment so that you can keep your workouts up while the outdoors is not an option.  a jump-rope, an elliptical, a treadmill, a walking video, some weights ... all good at home ideas!

Mel - from what i understand, if you decrease your calorie intake under 1200, your metabolism will change because your body will become concerned that it won't get enough fuel (food) and will start to store it away.  this is your metabolism slowing down.  with a slower metabolism, you won't burn as many calories during a day and therefore won't be as hungry.  i think if you keep your calories at 1300 for a week or so, you won't find yourself having to "PUSH" the extra calories in, but your body will want it because that is what it needs.  it's healthier to keep your metabolism at a healthy rate instead of slowing it down with an extreme reduction in calories.  i hope that helps and makes sense, but keep asking questions if this doesn't make sense!

edit: because i work out almost every day i think my body needs even more calories since it's rare for me to hit 1200-1400 calories.  most days, i usually get all the way up to 1600 calories.  but everyone is different and you have to find the right place for you.  going under 1200 calories on a regular basis is a dangerous choice to make though.

thanks everyone for being so understanding of my super slacker day! :)  i was feeling guilty for it since i was really looking forward to all my old forms of exercise and then just didn't want to do it.  thanks for making me feel less guilty! :D

joan - bummer that you'll have to rush to the gym, but it sounds like tonights the night for the gym since tomorrow is dentist fun, LOL!

cassie - crazy aerobics set-up, but that's cool that everyone contributes to it!  1600 is good for me, that's what i usually hit each day.  i cannot do the 1200 thing, i become ravenous!!

brigitte - i just found this forum conversation that you might find interesting!

sherry - great job of keeping up the run for 2 whole miles!  even though breast cancer is focused on a lot ... any and all cancer research is beneficial!

brigitte - good job with the housework! :)  it's great you're not saying goodbye to wogging 'cause walking in between can be a great way to increase your distance and speed still.  yay on your weight going down!  thanks for the update on stacey. :)

tami - a big YES to Austin being great and a lot like berkeley, but with cowboys, yeehaw!! :D  i could totally see myself living there if it weren't for the weather (and the scorpian i found on my backpack, yikes)!  LOL, your description of texis made me totally laugh!  how do you make your own marshmellows?  just curious. :)  i think it's really awesome that you found a healthy alternative to your kids' situation!  how great is it that your kids can not eat all that crap and not be on meds, instead of on both ... totally worth it!  WTG on figuring all that out!

cassie - what do you mean that the aerobics is not professional?  LOL, sure, i'll pack you in my suitcase! :) LOL about men not gaining ... so true!! ARGH!!

anna - the waterpark sounds like so much fun!  great job getting in exercise while you were there too!  i love when exercise doesn't seem like exercise!  good job resisting the cake & ice cream on saturday!

joan - thanks!  it helps that i at least had a gym while i was at the conference ... helped even out all the eating out.  whoo! 133.2 :O  soooo close!!  i hear ya about knowing you could go down a little more still but not really wanting to for muscle building reasons.  i was supposed to get down to 130, but i'm pretty ok with where i'm at.  even though there's certainly still room for improvement , i'm at a point where i've given up all i want to give up and if i do more, i know my weight will just go up and down constantly.  i want to keep my weight loss realistic so i can keep it off!

well, i was kinda a slacker yesterday.  came home from my first day back at work and was totally wiped!  the time change prolly didn't help 'cause i woke up really early after going to bed late.  anyway, i rested up yesterday and went to bed a little earlier than normal.  i'm planning to get on track again today.  i'll either do weight lifting tonight or if i get home in time, i'll head to my spins class.  happy tuesday all!

hello all!  i'm back from my conference/vacation now.  austin was REALLY cool!  i didn't want to leave ... except i absolutely missed my lack of humidity and my own bed here in california! :)  i did ok i think ... so hard to tell when you have to eat out and can't weigh yourself!  my weight was at 134.0 this morning which isn't bad considering i ate out for every meal ... i was scared it would be worse.  i'm hoping it will go down tomorrow as i get more water in me and clear out the sodium.

joan - i do corporate tax work.  i don't really travel too often, but i take every opportunity i get!  i just signed up for a conference in florida in november.  it will be held at a beach resort - yay!  (i don't know how they expect us to go to the classes then, LOL!)  the lectures are teaching me different aspects of international tax law, something i'm totally into learning about, but it really just gets exhausting after hours and hours of it.  so sorry about the awful JCP experience, that sucks! :(  awesome job on the measurements, you are doing amazing!  and whoohoo on the new low!!  ahhh, sooo close to goal!

brigitte - good job with the more positive wording - half of the battle is pychological! :)  that is a CRAZY story about you MIL, FIL!  yay on your mom visiting soon, i know you've been missing her! awesome job breaking through the intervals and into a continuous jog, you're doing great!  that's cool that you have the add'l motivation of friends' support!

jenn - good job with the self control, it's just plain tough sometimes ... especially with bad stuff all around you.

cassie - yeah, the conferences can get old real fast, but i love the traveling aspect!  nice on your aerobics classes, i'm sooo looking forward to being home and getting to go again myself!  good job doing well food-wise at the bbq.  two margaritas won't kill you ... just get back to it and you'll be fine!

brianne - sorry your weights up again ... but it's not up a lot.  don't worry too much about it, you have enough on your plate!  keep trying to be good and you'll be fine!

sherry - you should join in with the skating - what a fun way to get exercise in!  OMG, i couldn't live without flying places!!  i love to travel, but i prefer the transportation to be as quick as possible!

anna - good job sticking with the lowered sugar!

mel - welcome!  i agree with brigitte, upping your calories some should help.

alli - way to go!

nicky - awesome about the hawaii trip - what a great gift!  i agree with joan to use it for weight-loss motivation!

tami - nice job with the weight!  glad you had a good visit with the fam ... i hear ya about it being nice getting back to normal!

stacey - you can do it!!  i agree, i think keeping it together on the weekends is what it takes to kick the weight-loss down a notch.  LOL, stacey, you'll have to post a pic of yourself one day!  when you described your piercings i was surprised thinking i never noticed that before ... then i realized i actually don't know what you look like!!  holy crap, just noticed i hadn't 'friended' you since you changed user names!  i'm lazy with the tape measure too.

joan - thanks! :)  yesterday was super tough.  i just told myself i only had to go down there and burn 200 calories ... turned into 460 calories - yay!  i'm sorry you're having so much trouble with SAD.  i'm surprised since you go to the beach so much!  i hope you can find something that helps.  good luck with the measurements!  i hate hungry days!  but if my defecits were as big as yours i'd have hungry days every day, LOL!

brigitte - when i was on the wellbutrin, the further along in that two week period, the grosser cigarettes were tasting.  btw, you need to change your wording if you're gonna do this ... none of this, "we'll see if i can do this" ... you need to say "watch me do this!"  if you said that with weight loss you wouldn't be as far as you are today!  so, make sure you have the right attitude going into this.  LOL about the something stinking in the house.  umm, what do you mean that your mother-in-law is your mother?  you're worrying me ... LOL!!  sorry about the munchies this week.  i've been bad too, but that's 'cause i'm in long lectures trying to stay awake ... a cookie really helps, oh well.  good job going so long w/o a cheat day!

tami - have fun with the fam!

cassie - i guess if we can't handle the cake temptation, it makes sense that kids can't, LOL!  great idea to put it out for the bbq ... you're almost to saturday!  you should put it somewhere where you're not looking at it all the time.  i find that if i hide things in the house, i forget about them, but if it's in my face, i keep thinking, i want it, i want it! :)  don't worry about the weight going up, you prolly had more sodium ... keep at it, it'll go right back down.  i hear ya about boring ellitical, i can't wait till i'm home and get variety in my workouts again.

anna - i left a note for you in your journal.  remember, you're in charge of your own destiny.  make it what you want!  i think the baby sounds fun, but that's prolly 'cause i don't have kids, heehee.

sherry - fridays are almost better with no big plans!! :D

brianne - your dress looks FABULOUS!!!  what a great choice, it looks wonderful on you!  funny story for my wedding: i had one of those big slip things under my dress.  the day before my wedding i tried everything on at home and realized that the slip thing was all crinkled up so i fixed it.  suddenly i realized that that made the slip less poofy and my dress a little too long, LOL!!  oh well, what are you gonna do, LOL!  hahaha, i thought of men in trees too!  (love that show btw).

i TOTALLY didn't want to workout yesterday but did it anyway.  i'm getting tired of cardio machines ... i can't wait to get home and go to kickboxing and go for a run outside!  i'm totally ditching the conference today, i can't take another lecture and there's only two sections today.  i was going to sleep in, but didn't :(  i'm gonna go climb in bed and watch some tv now ... hotels are such luxury! :)  i'll try to pop in before i leave for austin, but once i go, i prolly won't be on the computer much.  be good! :)

woo - i worked out again on tuesday after class!  i did 45 minutes of ellitical followed by some weights.  the annoying thing is that they have 5 lb weights and 10 lb weights ... no 8s, grr!  so, if i get too tired with the 10s, i have to move down to 5s which feel like nothing!

sherry - sounds like you have a great plan in place!

cassie - sounds like you did pretty well at the party.  for me, if i had left over cake, i'd just take it to work, put it by the printer and it would be devoured.  because you and your husband run a daycare out of your home, that's not quite so easy. :)  could you leave it by the sign in sheet for parents to have a slice as they sign in?  or would the kiddies be too tempted?  or could you give the whole thing away to one of the parents?  i'm sure there's a way to get it out of your house!

off to another day of classes, be good everyone!

hi all - sorry it's taken me so long to post, but i'm wiped!  the time change is kicking my butt although it's only two hours ... but my conference starts even earlier than my normal work day :(  and i am NOT a morning person.  plus, listening to information all day is exhausting.  a guy in the elevator just called it, "trying to take a drink from a fire hydrant", LOL!  good imagery!  anyway, i was a good girl and worked out on the elliptical for about 55 minutes yesterday.  i would've stopped sooner except that they have these TVs connected to the machines and i was in the middle of a show! :)  awesome, huh?  i'm going to go down to do another workout today in just a few minutes.  i've read everone's posts, but i'm just too wiped to respond to all, sorry!  i'll rest a little then go down for my workout.  hopefully afterwards i won't be quite as tired and will write more. :)

brianne & tami - CONGRATS on the new lows!!!  you guys are doing awesome!!  it's so weird how i have no scale here, it'll be over 5 days before i can weigh myself again - crazy!

brigitte - i used wellbutrin and it gave me a seizure.  i don't know how your med works, but be VERY careful with caffeine and stimulents if yours works anything like wellbutrin.  good luck to you!!
