i like to savor every bit of food, so i take tiny, tiny bites. makes me eat slower, so my meals are stretched out... and can't hurt the digestion either!

veggie kabobs! throw onions, zucchini, squash, tomatoes, corn, peppers, etc. on a skewer, and grill them right along with your chicken and burgers.

i eat them everyday! great source of protein.

pour them in a bowl, add a tsp. of water, cover, and microwave for about 2 1/2 minutes. you can toss on a little salt or snack on 'em plain.

(they're also great in salads, soups, and stir-frys)

Here's one of my favorite treats:

Freeze your blueberries. Mix them up with some nonfat vanilla yogurt. Sprinkle with cinammon. Yum!

The yogurt freezes on the outside of the berries, and you get a delicious burst of flavor that's better than anything you could get at TCBY!

Also, if you like pancakes, toss them into the batter the next time you're whipping some up. Tastes great AND you sneak in an extra serving of fruit. Can't beat that!

try 1/2 of a whole wheat pita. 80 calories, no fat, and loads of dietary fiber. you can stuff them with all sorts of goodies - deli meat, veggies, peanut butter, etc.

sounds like the dilemma i was in after easter weekend...

i went a little overboard with sweets and fats and carbs and... yeah. you get the point. i felt like a blimp! and so miserable after all my hard weight loss work. but i vowed to not let it kill me. and now, just a week later, i'm back to my normal weight minus a lb. or two.

how'd i do it? water. water. water. water. lots of fiber (fruits, veggies, whole grain cereal). avoided processed foods, and sodium-rich foods like the plague.

best of luck!

i swear by nature's path flax plus - a nutrient dense alternative to cornflakes. nuttier flavor, and a little more crunchy too.

and like many others, fiber one is a staple too. i eat a cup for breakfast with yogurt and blueberries every morning! but mixing fiber one with any cereal will give you a more filling breakfast.

enjoy :)

my friend who needed to gain weight for football last year used to carry a loaf of white bread and a jar of skippy peanut butter to school. he'd snack all day long, and by day's end, he had finished the whole loaf/jar. that's definitely one way to do it!

i eat 60-70% carbs a day (lots of fruits, veggies, and cereal), and i've lost 15 lbs. since january. i'd say as long as they fit into your caloric intake for the day, you're absolutely fine. so go ahead and enjoy!

i'm an organic girl as well! so when it comes to pb, i make my own. buy dry-roasted peanuts, then toss them in a food processor and pulse until they reach a creamy consistency. (if you like chunky, hand-chop a few peanuts and mix them in). store in the fridge, and it will keep for about 2 weeks. no sugar, salt, or additives - and lower in calories.

bon appetit :)

a few of my favorites:

my sinless "apple pie:" apple, sprinkled w/ splenda and cinammon. add 2 tbs. water, cover and microwave 2 1/2 min. mmmm.

OR

carrot sticks dipped in salsa or honey mustard.

OR

steamed broccoli topped with pasta sauce (and sometimes parmesan cheese). better than pasta!

OR

frozen blueberries/strawberries mixed with dannon light 'n' fit vanilla yogurt, topped with cinammon.

5'8," 114 lbs. it's so great to see this thread. i get hounded for being thin often. but i'm very healthy according to my dr.! i eat a pretty clean diet - lots of fruits and veggies - no red meat - and try to make it to the gym 5 days out of the week.

i treat my body like a machine. and it's true - you get out of it exactly what you put into it! it's amazing the energy/health benefits i've gained.

i'm a newbie to cc - and i wish all of you the best of luck in reaching your weight loss goals :)
Weight Loss college students? Mar 06 2007

definitely a college student who's had to deal with the dreaded cafeteria dilemma. before coming to college, my diet and workout regimen was immaculate. but with late nights, junk food, and an all-you-can-eat cafeteria, i quickly put on almost 15 lbs. in my first semester. yikes! imagine not being able to slip into your jeans anymore. not fun.

but, good news is i'm back on track ever since christmas break (have lost all my freshman 15 already) ... and i have some awesome tips for dorm room eating. (i don't even have a kitchen - just a microwave and mini fridge!) and i eat 6 small meals a day, so i never feel hungry.

try stocking up on deli meat (fresh, low sodium) and whole wheat pitas for a quick lunch. (edamame are also a good microwavable snack!) buy frozen fruit (it stays fresh alot longer) and mix it with 1/2 c lowfat yogurt for a yummy treat. frozen veggies are pretty good too - the microwave in a bag kind are convenient, but sometimes leave the hall smelling like broccoli! for good fats, i turn to a tbsp. of all natural organic peanut butter or a handful of raw almonds. whole grain organic cereal is another staple... as well as apples, baby carrots, soy milk, and fresh, pre-cut pineapple.

basically, the key to eating well, i've found, is just having the right thing around. so the next time someone comes in with a slab of greasy pizza or a fresh batch of cookies, politely decline and reach for a piece of fruit instead! (or make yourself a cup of hot tea). pre-packed snacks always come in handy too. when studying at the library, i'll bring along some clementines or a baggie of cereal to munch on, so i'm not tempted to buy a mocha or muffin from the cafe, or run to the vending machine.

and if you need anymore motivation, remember that all that healthy food is only helping you out - giving you energy to study (or party!!). if you're putting in good stuff, you'll always feel good!
