Yeah, night time eating is a killer. I too seem to do best by eating more through the day so that I know going into evening that I shouldn't have much. For me, I'm not sure that true hunger has that much to do with it. The other important thing for me is having things that aren't too dangerous around. I like low fat popcorn or when my sweet tooth is calling, biscotti I can have w decaf. Since they are individually wrapped, I'm never tempted to have a second. My cats are 100% inside. That was fine until I married my allergic hubby. Now they spend most of the time in the attic. Technically they belong to my 24 & 22 yr olds who are in the process of moving on. I've always loved having pets but I most likely will never have them after this lot. The upside is that I won't be constantly covered in a layer of hair! |

Slow down BEB, it's only Thursday! ;) Ug. It's cold, rainy, I was .4 lbs up at WW, and every body is talking about Thanksgiving. I have no idea where we'll be or who will be with us (DH & I, that is.) I shouldn't be such a baby about it but I've never been so completely lost about it. I can't push anything because it's pretty much up to DH's ex as to whether we're running kids down that way or staying home. Anything she says now may not be true in a day or two so there's just not much point! At least I don't feel like eating. :\ |

BEB, sorry you're feeling uninspired. I know it can be tough at times. I'm not inspired enough for exercise right now so I'm just concentrating on what I eat. It will come back for you, I'm sure.Just try not to go ga-ga in the meantime so that you're not starting over from scratch when you get your mojo back. Nice pic of Kyle. He looks soooo much like you! He has sort of cute skeptical expression in that pic. Ohio, it may be a little less but 15 is pretty close. I didn't think that was so bad. lol. I didn't even mention the time for make-up! Laura, I just keep adding things to cabbage soup each day. By the time we're finishing it, it hardly resembles where it started. EDIT: IF you're not sick to death of them, I've added my last installment from my trip to my gallery. |

I allowed a little ADD to lead me to this link. Does anyone else get aggrevated that they use women who aren't even 40 to talk about how to look younger? Duh. BE younger! It also strikes me that the lighting is completely different and I wonder if some of the women are actually younger in the 'younger hairstyle' shots. It's funny though, my one guideline is that if it's the same way I wore it in my 20s or for 10 yrs straight, it's time to move on. So I take all these pics to hairstylists and half the time, I still end up looking the same! lol. I guess since I like my cut now I should stop belly aching, though. |

Are canned yams, yams? BEB, about the shrimp, ditto what Alice said. It's the price not the cholesterol that limit the amount in my diet. Shrimp are low fat...but you won't be if you don't hop back on that bike! (did you feel the kick?) |

I make no sense whatsoever. I wash my hands a lot, we have hand sanitizer in every bathroom and car, I wouldn't let a sneeze fly if I was alone in a closet, YET yesterday I dropped a small crumb of cake on the top of my foot and without thinking, picked it up and ate it! DH was standing beside me. He said "WHAT DID YOU JUST DO???" LOL. He may never kiss me again! |

BEB, my panties are just fine, lol. I appreciate that you care! I do hope to do things like that with SD at Christmas, but we're a Loooong way from being sure she'll even be here by then. She's trying every thing her little 16 yr old brain can think of to get out of it. Bonnie, I hope you have a super time shopping with your DDs. I'm sure you will. You're a sweet wife to be sure your DH has tasty left-overs. Hope he comes through on that honey-do list! ;) margaret, do be careful out there! That being said, I've always wanted to be near the coast during rough weather. One day I hope to be in Nova Scotia or New England and see the waves crashing against the rocky coast. Have a wonderful time! Bex, I think the audio books are a great idea. I suppose music dvd's might be too if she likes that sort of thing. My mom does have one of the Ott lights but her eyesight isn't too bad and she quilts, etc. a lot. Christmas shopping in Arizona? Wish I was on your short list! I looove jewelry from the southwest. Alice, I love that thought too. The other one that helps me is 'if food didn't cause the problem, food won't fix it.' I'm better at resisting my cravings than I am resisting feeding my emotions. I succumbed a bit last night with a Pepperidge Farm German Choc. cake, but fortunately they are fairly low cal as desserts go. No effect on my morning weigh-in. I'll just have to resist the leftovers for about 24 hours & by then DH will have wiped them out. lol. |

BEB, sheesh, alright already: weigh-in was 136.4, basically back to before I went to NO and 2.8 down from 2 weeks ago. I was 134.6 on my home scale this morning sans clothing. |

BEB, I'm a certified worry wart so take this for what it's worth, but you might want to consider skipping the tinsel. It does seem to be next thing to catnip to them and my vet says it's not uncommon for them to get obstructed bowels from it. The ice cycle type is the worst. That can be deadly very quickly and insanely expensive for the surgery even if it's caught in time. |

Bonnie, maybe Pilates is just the ticket. You always complain about your waistline not cooperating anymore. Pilates might beat it into submission. Hang in there! Good luck with the shopping. I'm always amazed at how exhausting that is. My feet and legs don't appreciate it either. And thanks for all the words of encouragement in my journal, etc. It really means a lot..I know you have similar experiences. |

BEB, are you still sticking to your plan and staying out of the junk food? Does the SB need to be oiled? ;) Helene, what a sight all of those animals must have been! The only thing I've seen that's even remotely close would be migrating birds. Nature is amazing, isn't it? I felt a bit down last night when I left work and the sun had already set. I happened to look out through the college buildings and trees to see that it was creating the most beautiful pink, orange and purple colors on the clouds. I just had to smile & say a little prayer of thanks. Oh, and I love tanzanite too so fill your pockets, OK? ;) Ug. Another cool gray day in PA. I was running late AGAIN this morning so I had to drive to work instead of walking. It's only about a 4 minute difference when I add looking for a parking space, etc. but sometimes that seems important. My WW weigh-in is just before lunch today. It SHOULD be much better than 2 weeks ago when I was UP a couple of pounds following my trip. According to my scale that's gone now but I'm curious to see if I've made an progress beyond that. I'll let you know. Still pretty stormy with the SD at home so while I check in every day here, I often forget to post. Please know I'm still out here pulling for you!!! |

When I was in my 20s I made most of the gifts I gave. It was a lot of fun for me, I can only hope the recipients enjoyed them too. My family is not the type tocomplain or even return gifts. I bought a pretty little lamp at the craft festival Saturday that is a liquor bottle filled with white Christmas lights, decoupaged with a pine cone & a little brown bird, all covered with a frosty coating. It has a little natural paper shade on the top. Even my 24 yr old son thinks it's pretty. I was considering making a few using decoupage appropriate to the person. (for instance, a sailboat for my son.) Of course, finding ideas is always easier than time to do it. This has the added benefit of needing to empty liquor bottles! |

I have yet another church dessert fest on Saturday night. This one's theme is pumpkin recipes. Check out the Halloween Pumpkin Cake in the middle of the page. That's what I'm going to attempt. I think it's cute but gotta admit, I don't think it looks all that appetizing. That's perfectly OK with me. ;) Edit: I missed your post Alice. I wonder if that stuff actually burns a little? My cats hate it with a vengence too and they are pretty docile about most things. They seem to recognize the little vials and run to hide when I bring them. Any other time I walk in their room, they're all over me. |

SAM, glad you are still making things go in the right direction. Slow but steady is great! I have no trees but the front side walk gets covered from those that blow in. Fortunately, for the most part, they blow on down the street eventually! lol. I'm no longer a fan of raking since it's not cool to jump in the piles at 50-something. Here's a little piece of common sense. I STILL struggle to wait 20' before having seconds. I think my family just eats too fast. It's really hard to get used to slowing everyone down. I've been eating very healthy at meals, vegys dominate with just a bit of a starch (if any) and 1 serving of protein. Unfortunately, I pretty often still eat enough so that I feel full. I really want to get used to feeling satisfied without feeling full. I think it would be better to have more healthy snacks between meals than to really fill up that way. I don't want Bonnie's problems, but I wish I had her good sense about portions. |

It was a busy weekend so I've been lurking. I missed the nice weather that Bonnie spoke of in Pa. Meetings all day yesterday! Ug. You are amazing Bonnie! That's quite a week you have planned. BEB, Alice gave you a good kick. You don't need that junk around the house. If you're ever tempted at the store again, be sure you buy a single serving only. It's one place you shouldn't try and economize! I've been doing generally well, although I definitely slipped up Friday night with a very large bowl of ice cream. There's no more in the house and I think we'll keep it that way for quite a while. The sad part is that the ice cream I ate was pretty old and buried in the back of the freezer. NOT the tastiest! Dumb. Dumb. Dumb. It was the first thing that I've regretted eating in about 3 weeks. I think that's some kind of record for me. |

My wt was down this morning, Yay! That just MAY keep me inspired for the weekend. Anyone have big plans? I'll be babysitting a bake sale tomorrow morning and then at a tax training seminar (yawn!) in the afternoon. Meetings on Sunday. DH seems to be sick (I'm crossing my fingers that it's not the H1N1) so it will probably be uneventful otherwise. I'm starting to do some online window shopping for Christmas. Ug. I'm not at all ready for this! Ka-ching! $$$$ It could drive a person to the fridge! |

This morning I was going kind of crazy trying to find my 'weigh in' clothes for WW. I finally got it all together and in to work where I discovered the weigh in for today is cancelled. Boo. Oh well, hopefully if I stick to it as I have this past week, I will have some really good news next week. Had we weighed in today, I couldn't have hoped for much more than taking off the wt I picked up while out of town. It will soon be time to start taking my SD to the gym. I won't be able to do it every day, as I have tax classes a couple of evenings a week. I am looking forward to it though. I thought that to start with I would do about 30' of cardio and 30' on the Nautilus-type equipment. I should use free wts because my scoliosis makes some of the machines awkward, but I've never been able to stick with them. I figure 30' of something less than ideal is better than 0' of the right way. Cynthia, I have a sister who's pretty into healthy eating so there are always a few good options at our family gatherings. I usually make something 'good' and something more traditional. I don't really want those in my family who don't have wt problems (and there are many) to miss the things they love because I might not practice good self-control. Hopefully you will find at least 1 or 2 family members who will cooperate. No matter what though, we still have to watch portions. Bonnie, good luck with the circuit training. It sounds intense. I really do admire what great shape you are in! I'm SO glad to hear Helene is OK. I figured as much but it's nice to KNOW. Great news that she has maintained despite being away. Wish I could say as much. I think you should stay completely away from the scale and just watch measurements (if anything.) You're bound to get even more toned with all you're doing now. BEB, I didn't watch TBL but did check out the website. That Tracy who everyone hates sure did improve though, didn't she? I saw the before and now shots. Quite impressive. I guess she might as well be a thinner healthier B___, eh? lol. Laura, I LOVE split pea soup and was just thinking about making some myself. It's definitely feeling like winter here today. I think the high is supposed to be 44. Burrrr. |

cynthia, Welcome. I fear the holidays too. I'll give you the advice I'm giving myself: stick to the plan faithfully now so that I show some good results. Success begats success. Every time I face some of those 'special' holiday foods and occasions I'm going to remind myself that I've really tasted it all before...the evidense for that is on my butt! lol. Just take it one day/meal at a time. Every pitfall that we avoid is one less thing to feel bad about and have to make up for later. I started WW about 4 weeks ago and have lost about 5 lbs. It's slow going but that's the way to make GOOD new habits! I don't know how active you've been up til now, but if not much, add a little each week. It's hard not to be impatient when you want rid of it so badly, I know. |

Glamgram, you must have some really good stories to tell. You've sure had a variety of experiences. I'm so glad you decided to post on this thread. We have a couple of things in common...weight goal and I've been married 3 years too. I am definitely a died in the wool chicken compared to you. (would that be feathers?) My stepson is part of an air assault group in Afghanistan so the subject of jumping comes up often with my DH. I tell him he can take me with him any time AFTER I'm dead! Self preservation is a little too deeply embedded in my personality for that. However; I will LOVE to hear your adventures. Margaret, the vision of the wet suits hiking made me laugh. I can imagine the looks! My local grocery store had portabello caps on clearance. These looked fine so I bought a pack and sauteed a couple and made a sandwich on an Arnold's sandwich thin w a little swiss cheese and mustard. Heaven! |

Glamgram, you absolutely are welcome here. I think we're all about feeling and looking as good as possible whatever it says on our driver's licenses. I had a nice surprise the other day. SS called his father's cell the other day when DH was out of the room. I picked it up, said 'hi' and then passed it off to DH. Turns out SS had the phone mislabled as mine. He actually wanted to chat with me! He talked to his dad for quite awhile and then it was my turn. We probably talked for 30 minutes. I don't think we really talked that much for the last 2 years he was in high school. Back then he'd always say ridiculous things like he wanted to be a great big giant sea monster when he gets out of school. The kid is a mystery though. He's got a high B or low A in chemistry YET he had to ask me how to address an envelope AND he doesn't know how to send email. ??? How is that even possible? |

I was just able to IM with my daughter who's 'vacationing' in Eastern Europe right now. She seems to have gotten the H1N1 and has been very sick since Friday. She's just now feeling a bit better. Poor kid! She was running low on funds but decided to go on this trip anyway because she's supposed to get paid any time now. With the illness she's barely seen the places she's visited. :( |

BEB, I guess from the pics you might think all I did was cook and clean. lol. Actually, I finished drywall, painted trim, cut, cracked, placed, grouted, cleaned and sealed ceremic tile. It was a very full week! Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) has been around for a very long time. They have centers across the country with supplies ready in case of disaster. Actually, I should say around the world. On where to help, I think if all of us who are able would help someplace...it could all be done. No need to restrict helping 'over there' because there would be enough helping here. Since I'm religious, I think God touches each of us in different ways. For the past couple of years, for me it's been to help people rebuild their homes. I've notice several people here are led to protect small animals, I think that's a kind of 'calling' too. The important thing is to listen to our hearts and accomplish more in this life than a closet full of clothes. (In my case, that don't fit! lol.) I hope no one is offended by the religious tone of that. And hey! I work hard at staying pale! lol. What do want to do...kill me? I'm a pale freckly girl ...I do not tan so it's a little easier for me to resist the Siren call of the sun. Edit: forgot to say that the small format pics were because I accidentally uploaded the small display pic from an album instead of opening the image and uploading. It's just a smaller file size. You really should go digital BEB. You'll save so much in developing & film costs. You can also take a ton more pics without worrying about running out of film. If they're not great you just delete them. Even the really inexpensive cameras now have the resolution of the $300+ ones a couple of years ago. |
