Hi Everyone,

I am with Copetown, I love this thread too! Been busy the last 3 days, went out with my best friend on Friday evening like Gypsierose ate too much, felt like I was going to explode so went by my streetcar stop and walked back 5 stops to walk some of it off.  Yesterday, went grocery shopping, then gabbed on the phone with an old girlfriend for 3 hours, we just reconnected a couple of months ago after not seeing each other in about 10 years, so that is pretty exciting.  This morning I did my weigh in and I gain 2 lbs this week, and I know it is my own fault as I went to lunch during the week with a work colleague and even though my main course was a salad and fish, and I mainly drank water (one expresso) I had Tariamisu for dessert, then Friday evening once again was sensible with the main course but ended up sharing a hot brownie dessert, with chocolate ice cream and whipped cream, nothing like sabbatoging yourself.  Well I am not going to beat myself up over it, going to move on and be very careful this week.

Copetown where in Burlington do you live, my third son lives in Burlington in a new housing development off BurlOak just north of the QE.

How did everyone else do this week?  I like everyone else hate exercising and have to force myself, although I do enjoy walking and try to do it as much as possible go out of my way in the morning to walk about 10 blocks to get a streetcar, when coming home in the evening go past my regular stop and walk back, and try really hard to use the treadmill and stepper in the morning's in the exercise room here in my building (don't always succeed) but I figure if I keep trying sooner or later it will become a habit.  I've never been a smoker, although everyone in my family including my sons smoke, tried it when I was a teenager and never like it.

Have a good day tomorrow everyone, talk to you later.  Mizlynn let us know when your daughter has her baby and whether it is a boy or girl.

Wow! There are a lot of Canadians in this thread, welcome.

Copetown, where do you live in Canada, I live in Toronto, I am here to help, as I know I can use all the support I can get, I just joined CC two weeks ago, and find it and the support you get from the "threads" so amazing.  I would like to add you to my friends list is that is okay with you.

Mzlynn1951, I know what you mean about food being a comfort, I used food for years as a comfort, when I couldn't deal with my feelings I would turn to food, especially things like potato chips and chip dip, salty foods and would eat them until they were gone even though I didn't really want them.  Does that make sense?  I was trying to get rid of that empty feeling inside me.  I did this until I learned of other ways to deal with these feelings.  CONGRATS, on the new grandbabies.  Grandchildren are wonderful, I myself have 11 (8 grandsons, 3 granddaughters) even though I have 4 sons, it is my younger 3 sons who are gving me all the grandchildren, especially my 3rd son as 5 of the grandchildren are his, 2 boys and 3 girls, my oldest doesn't have any children, and he would be such a great Dad, he is so good with all his niceses and nephews, they all just love him.  My girldfriend and I coming out to BC in November for 10 days. My first plane ride ever!  M first vacation since my oldest son was 17, and he is now 45.  Can  I add you to my friends list also?

I have found the food journal to be a real eye opener of what I eat, I've felt in recent years I've been a fairly healthy eater, lots of fruits, vegetables.  I love salads, give me a choice between steak and fish and I'll choose the fish every time, with some chicken (always grilled).  I amazed at the hidden stuff in food that we don't even realize until we start keeping track.

Got to go now, even though I am working from home today, got to get something done.  Take care and have a great weekend, I have my 2nd weigh in on Sunday, wish me luck.  Talk to you all soon.

Hi Everyone,

Well I have some good news, I did my first weigh in this week, and I've dropped 7 lbs.  Although, I've been keeping track of my food and following CC suggestions I don't believe all the weight loss came from this, I believe some of it is from the stress I've been under lately.

No more said Stinky1, I understand why your wife gave you that name.  Like you I only weigh myself once a week, as your weight can fluctuate so much during the week, you can drive yourself crazy weighing yourself more.  It sounds like you are are doing all the right things though.  Keep up the good work.

Hammo567, you are doing good.  I agree with Makambo loosing 1 lb is far better than gaining 1lb.  Slow and steady wins the race.  DO NOT give up on yourself!  Remember we are all here to support each other.

CONGRATS Star! That is wonderful!  I can't remember the last time I was below 200 lbs, but on the bright side I am no longer 300 +, so that is a good thing.  I honestly believe that with the help and support from the 2 chat rooms I've joined and the support I am getting that I will make it this time.

What I can't beleive that it doesn't cost anything except some of our time.   CC is the best!!

Got to go now I've got to get ready for the work week.

Have a great Sunday afternoon everyone, and I'll talk to you soon.

Hi Everyone,

Happy Sunday!  Hope everyone remembered to turn their clocks forward. I'm like gypsierose, I like things that take of themselves, like the computer, and the ditigal box on the TV, the rest I dealt with too bad there was a little fairy that comes around to do that for us. :-).

Well I did my first weigh in this morning and I've dropped 7 lbs, I cannot believe that I've dropped that much, I think I am in a state of shock.  I don't believe it is all from tracking what I eat, I believe some of it is from stress also.  I've had people at work make remarks about that they thought I was loosing weight and I know a lot of my clothes feel looser on me.

Gypsierose, I have to say that I am a little jealous of your warm weather, actually it was pretty nice here yesterday in the mid 40's, it was sunny when I went out in the morning and overcast later in the day.  Thank-you for the explanation on how to navigate around the mailbox and journal.  It sounds like you are moving forward and getting on with it so to speak.

My oldest grandaughter will be 9 in July, her younger sisters are 7 and 5 in May & August respectively.  They are my joy!  Not that I don't enjoy my grandsons, it's just that little girls are so different from boys.  Hope you had a great time with your family on Friday evening.

Welcome Makambo to the senior's club, it seems just yesterday I was 50, can't believe how fast the years go by; and to think I used to laugh at my Grandmother when she said that to me.

You are right -34C is COLD; are you in northern Quebec?  I was reading in the paper yesterday that the extreme cold can cause you to burn 1,000 calories, so I guess there is a bright side to everything. :-)  Seriously, I know the extreme cold is hard on the body, so take care when you are out in it.

Talk to you all later, have a great Sunday afternoon.

Happy to hear that you got your TV, and that it met your granddaughter's approval, as that is very imporant.  How old is your granddaughter?

74 that sounds wonderful, you must live in the south, it is going up to 6 degrees tomorrow here, which would be around 46 degrees, I live in Canada.

Gypsierose, I noticed you added me to your friends list but I am not sure how that works. I am going to try and figure it out.

Have a great day tomorrow everyone, and keep coming back.

Hi Everyone,

Hope everyone had a good day, my day was really busy at work as I worked from home Tuesday and Wednesday, and because one of the Dr.'s I work for was leaving to go to France it was none stop.

Thank you very much Stinky1 for the links to the 2 websites I will definitely investigate both of them.  I don't very many bananas even though they are supposed to be good for you; I don't like the texture of them, the only way I can get them down is to slice them put a little milk and Sweet n' Low on them.

Okay, I have to ask where does the name Stinky1 come from?

My nick name comes from someone I used work with, he was under the illusion that redheads had a racey side to them.  I am a lot of things but I've never seen myself as being racey.

Keep up the good work Scott, you seem to be doing the right things.

rdriextela, not eating is not a good thing, because your body will hold on to the fat because it thinks you are trying to starve it.  I used to the same thing when I was younger, skipped breakfast, even lunch then would eat late at night all the wrong food.  I finally tipped the scales at 300+, when I was in my late 20's.  Try really hard to change your eating habits, start off by eating breakfast, it will be hard to break your old habits but if you take it one day at a time you can do it.  I am a big believer in the "one day at a time", or even one hour, whatever it takes to get you through.

Everyone, have a good day tomorrow.

Hi,

Me again, I just an analysis for the 4 days I've been doing this and I have an A-, which I think is pretty good for a newcomer.

Although, I think I am a little high in the carb area, anyone got any ideas of how to correct this, as I said I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, not much bread, my favourite meal is a salad stuffed into a whole wheat pita pocket.

I am open to any suggestions, signing off for the night.

Hi Everyone,

Thank you for the feedback regarding the grading for food. I thought that was what it probably was and it certainly makes sense.

Stinky1, thank you for your clear explanation and how I can read the analysis to see how I am doing.  I do eat a lot of fruit and veggies.

Congratulations goofy_gurl that is quite an accomplishment, stick with it.

Well I am going to go take a look at the food analysis and see how I am really doing.  Talk to you all later.

Hi Everyone,

Hope everyone is doing well, I am just so happy I found CC, and have somewhere to share this experience with as I know it certainly helps to share with people that are going through similar things.

Gypsierose, Did you get your TV on the weekend?  I empathize with your situation, I am in process of breaking up with my 2nd husband of 22 years, and it is so hard to let go, even when you know it is in your best interest.  I've come to the realization that love isn't always enough.

Enough of that, I am very fortunate in that I have a lot of great girlfriends.

I've been doing pretty good with my eating this week, keeping it around 1,500 calories each day, eating a lot fruit, drinking lots of water; and doing my best to have my last meal at 6:00 p.m.

I believe that with the support with all the people in this forum that I might just make it this time.

Keep coming back everyone.

Hi Everyone,

I think this is the best website ever!  I can't believe how much encouragement and support there is.

Scott congratulations on that first 25 lb loss, that is wonderful!  Keep up the good work, just remember to to take it one day at a time.

Stinky1, I know what you mean about small meals.  I do my best to eat small meals every 4 hours, and try to have my dinner at 6:00 p.m., not always easy as sometimes life/work interfere with my schedule.  But I do know that eating this way keeps your metabolism moving, and seeing mine is almost at dead stop eating small meals is a good thing.

Lucky, thank you very much for the encouragement, it looks like you and I are starting out pretty much in the same spot.  Maybe we can support each other during this trip in weight loss.

Does anyone know what the A,B,C in the food log means.  I've noticed that some foods are marked with an A+, or C etc., and I haven't got a clue of what it means.  If anyone happens to know can they clue me in.

Have a great day everyone.

Good Morning Everyone,

You are right jem599 it is very self centred to think that we are so unique that we are the only one's experiencing a certain feeling, and we are so unique.  As individuals we are unique, but we are not unique in some of the feelings we experience.

I am so sorry to hear about your Mother Gypsierose, I lost my Mom 4-1/2 years ago and I miss her terribly, but noticed during the the few years of her life that our roles become reversed, it was like I was the parent and she the child, however, my brother felt it much more than I did as he lived with her, and had to deal with her and I have a lost respect for him for doing this.

I really like CC, keeping track of everything you put in your mouth, and being able to share what you are going through with others.  Have a great day everyone and welcome to those of us who are new to this.

Hi Everyone,

Me again, I seemed to have forgotten to mention the fact that I am new to CC, that I weigh 225, and according to CC for my age, height 5' 6" and body frame I should only weigh around 139 lbs.  That is 86 lbs to loose, and CC seems to feel that I can do this by October 2008, and maybe for once in my life I can reach this goal; and who knows maybe just maybe this time I will; if I remember to take it one day at a time and not listen to those old tapes in my head that just won't shut off.

dmgreen, it looks like you are off to a good start, I can relate to the bones and joints hurting, I've been having problems with my right knew lately and have had to force myself to walk, taking small steps, walking 10 minutes in the morning and 10 minutes in the evening.  It really hurt at first but it is getting easier, just have to remember not to push it.  Walking is one of the best exercise there is for joint problems, it supplies oxygen to your bones, and keeps the joints lubricated.

Keep up the good work.  Have great Sunday.

Hi Everyone,

I just joined CC this morning, feeling desperate right about now about my weight, have been overweight most of my adult life, fortunate in the fact that my weight is evenly distributed, and no one believes that I weigh as much as I do; but I swear all my weight is in my upper arms, well 3/4 of it :-).  I don't think I've swore a sleevless top since I was in my teens.

I'm 63 yrs young (64 on April 17), still working full time, mother of 4 grown sons, grandmother of 11 ranging in ages 23 - 2-1/2 yrs.  I had my sons very young in life and feel like I grew up with them.

It is great to find that there others in my age bracket that feeling the same things I am, I swear I could have written part of each of your stories.

Why as human beings do we think we are the only ones going through something that no one else will understand, only to find out that we are not alone, and that others do understand that they've been there also.

Right now my exercising is light to moderate, I walk as much as I can about 10 minutes in the morning, and 10 minutes in the evening.  I've always been a fairly healthy eater, don't like red meat very much, prefer fish, fruits, vegetables but there are times when I over indulge to say the least.

I am so happy I found CC and others my age that are going through the same thing, and can understand where I am coming from.

Have a good Sunday everyone.

Hi Melmug,

Count me in, I need all the support I can get.  I have no trouble going on a diet, it is sticking with it.  I do really good at first, however, the minute people start telling me how good I look I start sabotaging myself.

It is like I feel I don't deserve to look good, yet I love nice clothes, take good care of my skin, etc.

I carry a lot of baggage around from my childhood, all I ever heard while growing up was how fat I was, and it took two people to carry me; and even though I have pictures of myself as a young child that say otherwise, I am not overweight in any of these picutres, but it is like my subconcious believes the messages, and just disgards what I see with my eyes.

Does anyone else understand, or have similar issues.
