Foods what do your 3-400 calorie meals look like?..need advice Mar 25 2008
17:14 (UTC)
my 3-400 calorie meal usually consists of a Lean Cuisine, some steamed veggies (from fresh or frozen), and a "treat" like a sugar free pudding cup or popsicle.  The options described above are better for you in that they will have less sodium and they'll be fresher, less processed, fewer additives, etc.  But if you're in a hurry -- this is a good choice too.

hahaha I love the peep research page!  Peeps are hilarious . . . and delicious!  And just silly.  It's just for fun.  I think it was better when they weren't around all the time, when they were just for Easter.  Now they have Peeps for every holiday.  "Back in my day . . .  you kids today have no idea. . . blah blah crabby crab crab"
Health & Support Has anyone recovered from binge eating?? Mar 24 2008

Have you considered going to OA (overeaters anonymous)?  I find it really helpful.  I don't know that I would say I am "recovered" but I am so, so much better than I ever have been in my life.

and why does the scale go up drastically after a binge?

It's usually a combination of water weight and actual weight gain -- but it's mostly water weight.

Most of us who binge use processed foods, and even the processed foods that don't seem super salty can have a lot of sodium in them.  When the body receives a lot of sodium in a short period of time, it holds onto every bit of water it can so that the electrolytes don't become dangerously imbalanced.

I know that for me, after a binge, if I am patient, almost always the weight comes off over a period of about 4-5 days.  I make the problem worse, though, when I see the higher number on the scale -- freak out -- and binge again -- perpetuating the cycle.

Has your diet changed?  When I had my gall bladder removed I was told to cut the fat, drastically.  Also -- surgery does a number on the body.  They pump you full of fluids and then it all comes out.  I would give yourself another week and if you're still concerned talk to your doctor.
Foods Too little dietary fat? Mar 19 2008
17:45 (UTC)
I have heard that for an adult a healthy range is 20-35%.  Just yesterday I read in Allure that being under 25% is associated with increased rates of depression.  I think kids need more . . . a doctor or nutritionist could help you figure out what's right for you.

I have wondered the same thing, lawgirl25.  If I'm making the scrambled eggs myself, and I know I'm not using oil, I use the raw egg calculation.  But if I'm at a restaurant, and I need to assume they are adding some fat, I use the scrambled egg calculation.

Actually I will speak up about the pouring salt on food so as not to eat it habit.  That's a very common habit (also dishwashing liquid, anything unappetizing) among people with active eating disorders.  Don't be like me.

I love it too!  It does have high fructose corn syrup in it, though, which I personally am trying to stay away from.  But I can't see any reason not to eat it every day except boredom.

How much of an increase over your previous exercise level is this?  If it's a big change, that could have a lot to do with your energy level.  There are also some medical issues that could be working here.  You should talk to your doctor about it.  Your routine sounds great!  You're inspiring!

You're doing great honey, congratulations on all your hard work for your recovery!  I have a very food-centric office too and it can be so difficult, but your situation sounds horrible.  I would simply say, please do not comment on my food.  And just leave it at that.

that seems way too high!  are they counting in the potatoes and corn?  if you don't eat those you'll be doing great.  a treat now and then will actually help you stay on track in the long run, so I say have a "normal" day and enjoy those crawfish.  If you eat very little the whole day, you are more likely to binge at the boil -- cause you know there will be beer, yummy desserts, etc!  Oh I miss LA!!!!  Have fun hon.
