I've been in therapy over a month now.  I didn't expect to get better immediately, but I feel like I'm not making any progress at all.   Some days are better than others.... but on bad days the depression comes in like waves and I can't make it go away.  I get pessimistic and obsessive and insecure.  I quit drinking and have been doing a little better with the bulimia, but I feel just as bad as (if not worse than) before.  I'm starting to believe that I will feel like this forever.

Congrats on quitting!

My huband was a daily smoker years ago and is now a social smoker.  I quit smoking when I was pregnant and decided to become a "social smoker" afterwards.  It did NOT work for me.  I was smoking like I had previously within a couple of days.  I think I have more of an addictive personality than he has.

I'm not sure if social smoking is something that can be learned.  For me, I know that it just doesn't work.  When I quit smoking 7 months ago, I had to tell myself that it was the last cigarette of my life.  It's hard and I especially want one at certain times, but I just fight the feeling because I know where it will lead.

My son has a Type 1 diabetes and gets low at times.  Although I haven't been formally diagnosed with hypoglycemia, I also have a tendency towards low blood sugar.  Drinking juice and then rechecking in 15 minutes is exactly what both of us do when we are low.  I buy the small Minute Maid apple juice boxes that have 14 carbs, although 15 carbs of candy works also.  We were told the fastest way to treat a low is to start off with juice or candy that does NOT contain fat or protein.... this will slow down the rate of absorption .... then follow up with a snack that can have protein and fat and will maintain blood sugar longer.

Are you on a low-carb diet?  I can't go on those without getting extremely low.

I just found this thread.... I am so glad someone made this because the other ED thread was not very helpful.

I just started therapy again a few weeks ago and am working at recovery.  Just the fact that I am trying has helped my depression some.

i'm feeling like i will never be cured.  i seem to have no self-control with food.... and once i let myself eat just one thing it turns into a total binge.  i'm worried about my health, but i can't seem to stop.  i thought if i didn't let myself purge after binges that i would stop.  i tried that a few times, but i still keep eating and eating and eating.

I know exactly what you mean!  I have been refusing to buy clothes until I lose weight (my husband is loving that).  I don't really feel there's a point to shopping right now, because I don't like the way I look in anything.  I'm wearing the same thing over and over.

I have been planning what all I'm going to buy when I get down to my goal weight..... and it does help motivate me! :D

I LOVE the paninis.  Besides that...... meh.  However, frozen dinners in general are very convenient for when you are tired of cooking and/or need something to bring to work with you.

Keep your goal in mind..... to be a healthier person..... and don't worry about what "the magazines" say.

And if the skinny girls are eating pizza all day..... they are NOT being healthy even if they are thin.  All that fat and cholesterol may come back to haunt them someday.

My mom hoped that when she quit smoking and starting chewing nicotine gum it would tighten her double-chin.  Unfortunately, it did not seem to help her at all.

How's everyone doing on their goals?  Weekends are always harder for me ..... and Easter tomorrow - ugh (b/c of lent i haven't had chocolate since February).

My first goal was to run 20 miles/week - I've only run 13 so far which means I need to run 7 this weekend to reach.

Second goal was to not eat junk food.  HAHA  Didn't go so well.

Thanks united..... I like the article.  I guess I just feel that I should be better now.

Anyone else scared of Easter tomorrow?  I gave up chocolate for lent and I am going to be surrounded by chocolate and family - I hope I don't go crazy and gain 5 pounds in a day.
