Well, I'm here and alive. No I didn't repeat a week. I haven't run since last Tuesday! I thought my cold was going away but it kicked back with a vengeance! I had a 102 degree temp from Wednesday til Sunday and was so pathetic and miserable. I want to run again, but I'm still not feeling all that terrific. I'm worried that if I don't start again soon I'll have to start over, but I'm just SO TIRED and I can hardly breathe as it is! Sigh. |

| Weight Loss | is it possible to lose weight, and not starve. | Jan 31 2008 23:25 (UTC) |

You should never be starving while you're trying to lose weight. This will cause you to a: not lose any weight at all or b: gain it all back right away as soon as you start eating a little more Just use the tools on this site and figure out how many calories you should be eating and you should be okay. One thing I do is try to make sure thatmy "grams eaten" is the same or bigger than my calorie intake. This means 'm eating a ton of food, but it's all low call, healthy stuff. PS: I love your username, that's actually my username on a different blog! |

| Weight Loss | *Vent Warning* High Fructose Corn Syrup | Jan 31 2008 23:14 (UTC) |

Wow, I wasn't expecting this much of a response to my little vent! To address some of the other comments: yes, I know the thing about shopping around the edges, and I also make at home most everything. But I need to drink cranberry juice for health reasons. And although I make from scratch the bread I eat/serve with dinner I really just don't have the time to make bread and tortillas for lunches etc... Luckily, I live in a great college town with lots of hippies in it - so lots of organic and fresh choices available! I've never eaten a lot of processed foods, I guess I just hadn't realized before how PERVASIVE it is. I expect to HFCS in, say, fruit roll ups, but in whole wheat tortillas? And those ones were in the "natural" section! You can't even trust things that SAY organic, because that's not actually a requirement of being organic. OK, I'm getting worked up again... |

| Weight Loss | How do you teach portion control? | Jan 31 2008 18:44 (UTC) |
5 |
My boyfriend also has no idea what a portion is, but it's not nearly as extreme as this. He can get full, he's just a pig! I actually used to work with people who had a disorder called Prader Willi. PW actually causes this exact symptom - they never feel full. It actually takes people affected to such an extreme that they will eat toothpaste, fruity shampoo, garbage, anything that could even be mildly classified as smelling, tasting or looking like food. So take heart, there are actually parents whose kids are harder to control! In the end, I agree with the PPs. Lock the cabinets, the fridge and get her a job that has nothing whatsoever to do with food. Keep her in a separate room while you're preparing food and then give her her meal and let her eat it. Start out with meals that are closer to what she's used to and work your way down to reasonable portions. She might yell and scream, but talk to her before you start the new plan, make sure she agrees to it and then go for it. I'm really sorry for your situation, just keep on trucking! |

I'm 24 and currently 216. My eventual goal is 130. And I know what you're thinking, but I'm not one of those girls that wants to weigh a crazy amount, it's just that I'm only 5'2"...and that's on a "tall" day! I'm doing the Couch to 5K program, and while it's been really good at making me go to the gym, I don't feel like I'm getting anywhere. I decided not to weigh myself until the date when I should be at my first mini-goal (February 31st, 199.9) because I figured it would feel better to see a big number jump, but now I'm worried that I'm not actually losing, but gaining. I just feel heavier, ya know? Maybe it's perception, I'm not sure. Congratulations to everyone who has already made it so far, and good luck to everyone just starting their journey. Cheers to being curvy! |

You all are scaring the CRAP out of me...I don't have a MIL, yet, but these are all horrible stories! Were these women all pretty crazy before-hand or only after you married their sons? My BFs mom SEEMS pretty nice, and I've known her almost two years. Probably the crazy would be out of the bag by now, right? Apophenia - I would tell her to stick it where the sun don't shine...but that's me. |

| I was sick all weekend...took Friday off work and was afraid to go to the gym because my boss uses the same gym as I do!So I am way behind. I still need to do the last day of Week Two, but today is supposed to be the first day of Week Three for me. What do you guys think I should do? I was thinking of running three days in a row, today week two day 3, tomorrow week three day one and Wednesday day two then by Friday I will be back to where I'm supposed to be. Would that be really really bad? I just don't want to be way off schedule, and I like having each new Week be on a, well, new week. Does that make sense? | |||

Week 2, day 2 for me as well. Day one was soooo hard but at least I didn't get any shin splints because (drum roll please) I got new shoes! They are sooo cool and wonderful and I'm excited to go running again tonight just so I get to wear them.
Lil - I do the Jogging/walking combo that's listed under running for 30 minutes and get 294 calories burned. |

The Marware pouch is a really great product. Also, rahana316, the reason you can't use it with the iPod video is that you are not supposed to run with a video or a classic because they have a hard drive, while the Nanos and Shuffles have Flash Drives. It is really not good for your iPod to run with it, unless it's a Nano or Shuffle. Just FYI. |

$9.83 a gallon??/ WOW! I thought it was bad here! It's currently been around $3.09 (USD) here in Missouri, my sister in Minnesota says it's much more there. You know, I remember when I first got my license I wouldn't put gas in my car if it was over $1/gallon. I flat refused. I would walk. I would PEE MY PANTS if it got that low now! PS: It's not like high school was all that long ago for me either, I just turned 24! |

Congrats everybody on finishing day two! For me last night was way harder than Monday. I got shin splints really bad and it hurt sooooo bad! But I still finished. It pissed me off though, because I feel I could have gone longer or harder if it wasn't for that. When I was finished and stretched they went right away. Then my boyfriend and our room mate showed me how to use all the fancy machines at the gym so I'm sore all over, but most def excited to get Week One over with on Friday and move onto Week Two! |

| Yeah, it's most def my first. I've always been a crappy runner. I was that kid in Elementary School that everyone had to wait for while I huffed and puffed through the Mile. I'm absolutely terrified, but I know that running is THE best way to get in shape and with this program, it's slow enough that I'm actually kind of enjoying it. I feel so accomplished once I finish! | |||

Good luck to you as well! I run on a track inside. I can't stand running on a treadmill because I don't feel like I'm going anywhere. Once it gets warmer outside I might try running outside at one of our fantastic local parks, but for now it's way too chilly. I hate that "my lungs are frozen" I get from running outside. It gives me flashbacks to my Minnesota childhood when they used to make us go outside for "recess" in February. Eeek. I don't have any Nike Shox shoes. I don't really have running shoes at all. I'm going to go shopping for new ones soon though, because I would love to be able to get the Nike + iPod sport kit so I can tell how fast I'm going etc... with my iPod. For now I just run in my crappy ol' Sketchers :) |

I'm doing it too! I started last week but I'm doing Week One a second time this week. I was so out of shape that Week One kicked my BUTT and I decided to try it again. Monday this week was sooooo much easier and I run again tonight. Do you guys think new shoes make a big difference? Because I'm still using my Sketchers that I've had since high school. I just get so overwhelmed when I go look for sneakers...so many choices! |

My favorite way to cook eggplant is in a dish called "Le Tien" that my mom always made when we were little. I bet you could modify it to make it in a toaster oven. What you do is slice an even amount of tomatoes, eggplant and onions in as even of rounds as you can. Put a little olive oil and garlic in the bottom of a roasting pan. Layer the vegetables in, alternating, standing up till the pan is full and they're holding themselves up. Like making a veggie bookshelf in your pan. Then drizzle a little more olive oil on top, and sprinkle the whole thing with Herbes de Provence (or Italian Seasoning works too). Bake at 400 for half an hour or so, or until the eggplant is tender all the way through. Top with low fat Mozzarella or Soy cheese and bake until golden brown. Enjoy!

| I'm all about Obama. I agree aasil - Obama understands REAL bi-partisanship. He doesn't agree with everything the right has to say but he's not going to pretend they don't exsist. As for his lack of "experience" --- just because he hasn't been in Washington that long, doesn't mean he doesn't have experience. He has a full and varied career backing him up. I think he's had just long enough time in Washington to realize what's wrong there, so he can fix it quickly and get on with what's REALLY important --- fixing the country. I like his words at the Democratic National Convention in 2004 - I cry every time I watch the video on YouTube! "...there is not a liberal America and a conservative America -- there is the United States of America. There is not a Black America and a White America and Latino America and Asian America -- there?s the United States of America. The pundits, the pundits like to slice-and-dice our country into Red States and Blue States; Red States for Republicans, Blue States for Democrats. But I?ve got news for them, too. We worship an "awesome God" in the Blue States, and we don?t like federal agents poking around in our libraries in the Red States. We coach Little League in the Blue States and yes, we?ve got some gay friends in the Red States. There are patriots who opposed the war in Iraq and there are patriots who supported the war in Iraq. We are one people, all of us pledging allegiance to the stars and stripes, all of us defending the United States of America." My ideal ticket is Obama/Wellstone...but that can't happen. I think I would be well-pleased with an Obama/Webb ticket. They balance each other well, and Webb has the military cred that Obama lacks. |

| I disagree. I'm not saying all brand names are better, but if something is legitimate and authentic, then it is usually of a higher quality design, leather...even the zippers are made better on a real designer purse. I use this site to get my designer stuff. It's all lightly used, really great condition vintage designer stuff...for the serious collector. They're a little low in inventory right now, but I'm sure they'll have more soon. Personally, I like the idea of owning a purse that my granddaughter will be able to carry and still look classy and cool 50 years from now (you know, the zipper will still work too). |
