Partially true - I *do* like the St. Louis Cardinals.  Just as much as the Washington Senators.  But I'm not really a baseball fan.  (I used to live in St. Louis - that's all - and I have a TON of family in St. Louis who watch all those games.)

The Person Below Me: Has at least one child in elementary school or pre-school.

Growing up, I felt like the fat one.  I see pix now & I realize that a ballerina / track runner (me) was pretty slender.  I just had muscular thighs due to the activities I did (ballet & track & high-jump).

Now, I am getting thinner than my mom.  This has NEVER happened.  She's always been the skinny one.  And she is starting to really feel insecure about it.  Argh!!  But I still have 10 more lbs I want to lose.

It's so funny, because my mom jogs 2-3 miles per day.  And I don't personally feel I can jog yet.

And she's pretty frustrated that suddenly we both wear a size 12.  Well, how come she doesn't remember that before I had kids we both wore a 12 & I gave her all the clothes I couldn't wear any more?  Suddenly it's like she totally forgot that 5 years ago we were the same size.

Hopefully she'll get over it because it's sad and a bit frustrating.  ::sigh::

A lot of my neighbors & church-friends are also on diets, and I was always the biggest one or close to the biggest one - or tied with a few people for biggest.  I've lost 40 lbs in the last year, and people are starting to call me "skinny"  (It's true!!  I got that twice in the last week!  Woah!!!)  And now all those same people are starting to look fat to me, and it's irking them too.

Heck, I've worked really really hard to get where I am.  And they can just work hard too.  If they want help, they know who to ask.  If they don't want help, I'm keeping my mouth shut and I have clothes shopping to do!!

:)

My son interrupted me as I posted that last post.  So I'm adding on:
Once you lose weight from your calorie intake (for me, 20 lbs at the time) you can add more serious exercise.  After I lost 20 lbs, I got a new set of bras, and could exercise ... and I've lost nearly 20 more.  10 more to go and I will be at my goal weight!  (But I'm thinking I may modify it to lose another 10 - we'll see.)

Exercise isn't the only thing that makes us lose weight.  It's eating too.  I've found the only way for me to lose weight is to cut my calories back to 1200-1300 calories per day.

I watched it too!  I hadn't thought about watching it until I got on Calorie-Count & folks were bashing the show on other forums here.  And I thought, "I think I might actually *like* to watch that show."  So I am!  Cool show!!  It totally re-motivated me to keep on working out.  Whoo hoo!!

I had a horrible binge day a few days ago - nearly doubled my regular calorie intake.  Just drink a TON of water today so the stuff will flow through.  In 2 days my scale cleared back up and I've forgiven myself.   Just don't do this every day & try not to even do it once a week.  Every now and then it almost keeps me sane though.  Be nice to yourself and know that we ALL do this now & again.  Again, drink water to clear it on through.

it went away eventually. it's not a difficult thing to treat.  it's also something that sometimes comes with pregnancy. (which was my case.)

thank you, FoxFire!  i hadn't thought of that.  however, folks read my journal, and i'm not actually sure i want everybody being able to read my measurements either....  that is just a bit more private than i think i want to share with the world of Internet users...

i do think it's a good idea for them to give us this functionality though.

I was thinking of posting this as an idea they should consider - but now I see that other folks have posted it already!  Hurray!!   :)   I totally agree - I measure myself, put it on some random piece of paper, and a month later I'm like, "hmmmmm...." and I can't for the life of me remember.  I could have sworn a month or two ago my belly measurement was 30.  And now it's 36.  And I've stayed at the same weight.  I just stopped exercising for a while.  And I am wondering if those jeans I bought are going to fit again now that I've started exercising for real again....    If those measurements had been on this site it would really help me.  .... Blah blah blah....   Why-oh-why am I such a chatterbox???

WOW!  I am so glad to find this thread!  I have the same problem & have to move my feet or lean on my heels for a while to get them to wake up again.  I always assumed that it was because my feet are uber-straight (instead of curved like most folks) and I couldn't find sneakers that are as straight as I need them to be.  But now I know I'm not the only one.  I LOVE the elliptical machine.  :)

I agree too.  I was thinking of suggesting this myself, but people have already done it!  The water log on Slim-Fast.com is fun - you just click on each water as you drink it.  Calorie Count could do something like that.  :)

I second this idea - it would be GREAT to be able to add my foods from my phone on the days I am out all day.  ANd to have it simply show me my calorie total after I enter the food.

Ahhhh... cheese!  Maybe we need a new thread on this forum about all the awesome cheese things.....
Welcome to the site!!
I joined the site & used it casually since January - just logging my weight and the occasional day of eating.
I started using it seriously maybe 2 or 3 weeks ago.  I was home for a solid week due to circumstances at my home - and my husband was out of town.  I discovered "buddies" and now I have a wonderful place to talk about this stuff!
I am really grateful for the friends I have made in the last 2 or 3 weeks - and you will make friends who will keep you motivated & on your toes.  Helping you out, guiding you...
Best wishes!!!
PS: Ever tried "CharlieCheese" ??   Oooh - that stuff is AWESOME.  We have it at Whole Foods.
Fitness Elliptical vs Stationary Bike Sep 04 2007
14:46 (UTC)

I LOVE the elliptical machine!  I use it at my gym 3-5 times per week.  I work out in my cardio zone for 20-40 minutes.  (For me, age 35, this is about 145 heart rates, but sometimes i go up to 150 heart beats.)

I sometimes remember to hold my stomach in & exercise my stomach while I'm on the elliptical.  If I do this,  I lose it in my stomach faster.

I love the elliptical for a variety of reasons - it works my whole body.  It's easy on my knees.  I get a faster heart rate because more muscles are working together at the same time - it's so much easier.  (On the bike I had to bike much much faster to get my heart rate up & it was so so so difficult to get to the Cardio zone for me on the bike.)

Also, I can close my eyes if I want to.  (Sometimes it just helps me focus or pray or something.)  I can read (on the treadmill I have a lot more trouble reading).  ....

I think it tones my whole body in just the right places.  The last thing it would ever give me is a big but.  The cheese I've eaten has done that just fine.  Hahaha!!  But not the elliptical.  I think my butt is slimming out nicely.  I can fit into smaller jeans & my butt is looking pretty darn smokin' in them....  thanks to the elliptical!!   (and weights, and yoga.)

True, then false.  I had a fabulous weekend!  But I didn't get to see a movie that just opened.  I threw a pool-birthday-party-for my 2 year old son, then we ate crabs and more crabs at a neighbor's crab feast.  Sunday I had a lazy day, then Monday (3 day holiday) we all went to the zoo!

ok... hold your nose while you read this.  seriously.
one of my former step-dads taught me:
saltine cracker + mayo + peanut butter + pickle + american cheese.
it's actually really good!  when i was in high school, i would put it on rye bread for lunch instead of saltine crackers.  my "friends" called it "nuclear powered sandwich."  hahahahaha!!   :)

one of the Madeline L'Engle books taught me to like liverwurst sandwiches with cream cheese & tomato.  i really liked that too.  yummmy!!
Motivation Breastfeeding and not loosing ANYTHING!! help!! Sep 04 2007

I gained about 100 lbs while pregnant with my first son.  I breastfed him for 1 year.  During that time, I worked out with a trainer, but kept eating my oreos & coffee & things.  And cheeeeeese!!  I lost very little weight.  I think I started at like 245 and got down to about 215 in that first year.

After that, I stopped breast feeding.  It took me another 10 months to get down to 190.  (10 lbs above my pre-pregnancy weight.)

Look at what you are eating & let us know.  If you are scarfing down a whole bag of oreos every day, you're not going to lose weight.  If you are eating vegetables & fruits & bread & milk, etc., and not losing weight, then just be grateful for your healthy baby and dont' worry about losing weight until you stop breastfeeding.

You will have the rest of your life after breastfeeding to lose weight.

Seriously.  Just be grateful for the healthy baby & forget about weight loss for now.

Eat vegetables.  Eat fruits.  Eat on the food pyramid.  Drink LOTS of water.  And don't fret so much.

Hi!

My mom, weeks ago, agreed to keep our boys today (Sept 2) & tomorrow - to celebrate our 6 year anniversary.  She is very very busy & I don't fault her at all - but she claims we never talked about it.  I shocked her on Friday when I was verifying the plans.  She had NO CLUE.  So, we re-thunk & she said she will keep them Saturday, Sept 8 so we can go.

Our local one is the Maryland Renn Fest - in Crownsville, MD.  My husband used to be "The Wacky Renaissance Yo-Yo Man" at the festival.  His last year there, they gave him a stage & he was "The Do-er of Odd Deeds."  It wore him out like crazy and he was so stressed, I am glad he's not doing that any more.

We had an Alice in Wonderland themed wedding on Sept 2, 6 years ago.  On Sept 1, we had a mock-wedding at the Renn Fest.  And I thought it would be nice to celebrate our 6 years of marriage at the Fest this year.  ::sigh::

Once my son wakes up from his nap, we're taking my boys to my parents' house & my mom is going to watch our boys while we just have dinner at a restaurant near her.

I have so many Renn Faire costumes (3-4 years of my husband performing there every weekend did that for me....)   and 2 of them are fairy costumes.  One is a fairy-pirate costume.

I did the bubbles - selling bubble wants for Misc. Oddiments - and at first I was "Sparkles the fairy" with yellow & pink & glitter & $120 custom made wings... gorgeous!!   Then I became "Sudsy the fairy" - the bubble wand fairy - a pirate fairy who teaches about not littering & I wore green & purple with $80 custom made wings.  (Much smaller wings - not as heavy - so I could bubble & wear the wings all day & not be so aching by the middle of the afternoon.)

::::sigh::::

I *love* Renn Faire.  I wish we could have gone today & tomorrow - I was really looking forward to opening gate tomorrow - because we live so darn far, I thought we could mosey on over there today after church, spend the night in a hotel closer to the faire, then make opening gate tomorrow morning.  Oh, well.

I'm not even sure I *can* go on the 8th - my calendar is pretty full.  :(

Hugs,  Jodi in VA

Herbalife!  That diet totally worked for me when I got out of college.  Dropped like 7 lbs (that's all I needed to lose at the time) and I felt slinky.  But I was STARVING all day long!  And I told my distributor, and she gave me these chocolate-flavored-sawdust-tablets to eat.  "Pretend they are brownies" she said.
I could starve myself and lose weight withOUT spending money on Herbalife.  Doh!!

Weight Watchers.  And the low-carb diet.
Weight Watchers - because someone turned down pizza and opted for fried fish & chips instead!!  I couldn't believe it!!!  "I'll have the pure fat please, instead of the bread with tomato sauce & cheese on top."   Yeah - makes NO sense to me.
----
Low carb because my neighbors have been on it for years and years now - and they just keep gaining weight.
One time I went to their house to watch a tv show & I offered them a fresh pint of strawberries to share with me.  I'm talking 3-4 strawberries for each of us to eat.  Not a whole pint per person or anything.  I didn't have THAT many.  And they said, "too many carbs" then proceeded to down about 4-5 HUGE slices of pizza each.
I was STUNNED.
Turning down strawberries in favor of mega pizza?  Makes zero sense to me.
No wonder I've lost about 100 lbs & both of those sets of folks just keep gaining.  (The girl on Weight Watchers gets bigger every time I see her & the neighbors do too.)
