Hi everyone. Sorry I dropped the ball for the team.  My husband was injured  at work  this past week.  May actually end up being a career ending injury. We have been doing round after round of orthopedic surgeons to try to resolve this.  Anyway. I am out for a while at least.  I'll check in when things slow down a bit.  Good luck to you all.

P.S.  I love him dearly and I know he is in pain but I have to be truthful.....he is driving me INSANE!  He is so bored that he has started finding things to nit pick. I swear he is timing how long I keep the refridgerator door open when preparing dinner.  Yesterday he wanted to discuss why, when I cook, do I measure out things in a cup but use my palm and basically guess when it comes to teaspoons or tablespoon measurements!!  INSANE!!!!!!

I asked a friend of mine about this.  She has been a pre-school teacher for 11 years.

Her answer:  It is not cute.  It is disruptive to her class.  It takes her attention away from teaching.  Instead of doing circle time or the "letter" of the day" she has to deal with inappropriate kissing.   She has dealt with this by explaining to her students the first week of school what is appropriate and what is not.  Kissing is something they do at home with family not in the classsroom.  She also tells her students if caught, they will be punished.

As a teacher, she could not comprehend how anyone could think kissing between 3 and 4 year olds was cute?   She just didn't get it.

These cruel, cruel people were scheduled to protest in our area for the Nickel Mines Amish school house shooting.  They say they backed off because they got 1 hour of free air time on Mike Gallegers show.  We say, they backed off when they learned that the local radio stations were begging for every Harley rider in a 200 miles radius to show up and "meet" their bus.

They thrive on this kind of publicity but back down in the end because they are a bunch of cowards.  Pure cowards.  Don't give in to their prapaganda.  Don't go to their web site.  Ignore them.

P.S.  That is how ignorant these people are. They consider all Harley riders a threat when in reality Harley riders are some of the most decent people in the world.  They responded to our call to protect our Amish families within hours.

Yes they are very contagious.  Doesn't have to be direct contact either such as a kiss.  You can pass on by sharing a drink, food, etc.  Be careful as they are even contagious when they are drying up.  The incubation period is up to 3 weeks. So your boyfriend may not break out for 3 weeks.  That is the biggest pain the neck with these things. Couples end up passing the thing back and forth to each other because of the long incubation period.  If I were him I would take the L-lysine for the next 3 or 4 days to reduce his chances of getting it.

Weight Loss How do you measure portions? Apr 17 2007

I measure out everything.  I bought a food scale for about $30.00.  I measure everything in grams. So if I am having a ham sandwich with lettuce, tomato and mayo, I weight each thing individually on the scale and compute my calories that way.

It is a royal pain in the behind but I do not seem to have the ability to eyeball what a portion size is. If I don't do this I start packing on the calories. If I make a recipe from scratch I use the recipe analyser above and give myself one portion size.  The one thing I started doing was mentally seeing what a portion size is. So for instance if I am measuring out the ham sandwich in the above example I will try to guess what each item weights.  I am getting better but not good enough yet to give up my scale.

Not everyone is going to think this is cute and/or funny.  What if you get a mom who doesn't like it and reports your daughter to the school?  It is absolutely ridiculous but the school will have no other choice but to call it sexual harrassment and she may be suspended.  You think I'm being overly dramtic.  Remember the kindergartener a few months ago who was handcuffed, jailed and charged with a felony because she had a melt down at circle time?  This is the idiotic world we live in.  Schools over react because they are afraid of law suits.  Do yourself a favor and tell her kissing stays at home.

L-lysine. (An amino acid - Sold where ever vitamins are.)  300 - 500 mg once a day.  Should be gone in 2 days.  Be aware, there are different types of lysine. It must be L-Lysine.  Google it if you are a skeptic.

I  swear by this stuff but my biggest convert was my dad.  Usually only goes with what the doctor gives him, no natural treatments. Last year he had a cold sore for over a month. He could not get rid of this thing.  I offered him an L-lysine.  He was desperate so he took it. He called me the next day telling me what a marked improvement there was already and in 2 days it was completely gone.  He know keeps L-lysine on hand and has never again balked at my homeopathic ways!

P.S. I am not a doctor.  All medication should be discussed with your doctor before taking it.

We got word yesterday afternoon that our son's friend who is a freshman at Virginia Tech is ok.  We thank God for that.  We also pray for all the victims and their families.

I am not going to get into a p*ssing contest here about gun control but what really irks the heck out of me is why the US allows non- residents to purchase weapons?  Residents - ok but non-residents?  The kid was from South Korea.  Why is he allowed to buy a gun here?  Please anyone explain that to me.

It was 6 days ago and I still feel like it happened an hour ago.  Think about it all the time. Funny thing about it was the nurse was severely overweight. I mean by 200+ pounds overweight. You would think she would be more sensitive to things like that.  Oh, and I didn't say but we were in the "shot" room so I had to admit this in front of 4 other people.  I cried most of the way home.

I feel your pain. I went for a tetnus shot the other day and the nurse was just ready to give it to me when she stopped and said "how pregnant are you?"  I had to explain that I was not.

Then find a doctor who is sympathic and does have the answers. That is what  we did.   It was not  easy by any means.  I have to make a  90 minute drive (each way) every month (was twice a week) to get that doctor but my daughters health (body & mind) is worth it.

You are going to one of the most romantic places in the world. Hopefully the last thing you are thinking about is pasta!  And if you are well then "mangiare, mangiare"  Eat, Eat!!

In all seriousness, in the restaurants you probably are going to have a tough time eating light.  But Rome is filled with vendors selling wonderful, fresh fruits and veggies.  Eat the fresh fruits and veggies for 2 meals a day and indulge for the third.

PLEASE, if you are on anti-depressents do not follow Elly's example and toss them out. Go to your doctor.  It is extremely dangerous to stop taking these meds all at once. You need to cut back slowly under a doctors supervision.   Also, the meds stay in your system for up to 30 days so you won't get immediate weight loss anyway.

P.S..  Elly - effexor almost killed our daughter.  She was on for about 40 days when I got the most horrendous feeling in my pit of my stomach. I ran upstairs to find her out standing on the ledge outside our second story bathroom ready to jump.   That  is when we found a psychiatrist that is also a psychopharmacologist.  She has been a godsend.  The new meds work.

Same thing with me. But mine is mindless eating.  I smoke and can't even think about a cig when I am hungover so I eat instead.  Double whammy.   First all the alcohol calories and then the overeating. That is why I am attempting to just say no.
