Weight Loss anyone similar to me? Feb 14 2008
19:08 (UTC)
I am 5'7'' also and I started out weighing 178.  I went on wellbutrin because I was struggling with depression.  I have lost 25 pounds over 4 months.  It has really helped me stick to the number of calories I need to eat each day and I am never that hungry.  I am also working out, but I was doing that when I weighed 178.

I think the wellbutrin will help, and with some hard work, you will get to where you want to be.  It just takes a lot of time!!
Health & Support Has anyone lost weight with Bupropion SR Feb 14 2008

I started taking wellbutrin xl 4 months ago and I love it.  My depressed mood has changed.  I am no longer irrational about things like weight loss, keeping the house clean and trying to be the perfect mom.  I have also lost 25 pounds (178 down to 153)  So now I am at a healthy weight!!! Yeah!

I still watch what I eat but it has really suppressed my appetite, but with the combination helping my depression, I think that both things have helped me to lose the weight.  I have no food cravings at all.  I am rarely hungry and when I am it doesn't take as much food for me to feel full.  In the first month of taking it, I had to make myself eat, I was never hungry.  But that wore off now, but it is still a great improvement than no medication.

I think it is a great medication.  I do have the side effect of "ringing in the ears" but it is only when things are quiet.  We run a fan at night and I have 3 kids home during the day so it has not been bothersome at all.  I haven't noticed any other side effects.  I am on the extended release and name brand because I read a lot of reviews about taking the generic.  I am not sure if they are true, but I decided to stick with name brand just to be sure.

I just wanted to reply to give another example of someone who is on it.

I think bodypump is a great class and I don't think it would be too hard.  Everyone is at a different level.  People who are stronger will just use heavier weights added to their bar.

Try it out.  Don't be intimidated.  Everyone has to start somewhere.

I am at a loss.  You should eat at least 1200 calories per day and if you are sedentary and want to lose weight, you should eat about 1200 calories per day.  But you said you eat 1000-1400 per day, which would average 1200 per day.

Are you taking any medications that have weight gain as a side effect?

Anyone else have any ideas?

You must go to Golds gym.  I do too.  I think the body pump class is great because you have an instructer teaching you what to do instead of doing it on your own.   I really enjoy that class.

How many calories are you eating per day?  This info would help to figure out if you are eating the right amounts.

Also, have you had your thyroid checked?  If you are hypothyroid and eating the right number of calories, it would explain why you are not losing the weight that you should.

I think you are at a healthy weight, you have a bmi of 20 and at 115 you would be 19 and anything below 18.5 is underweight.

I think you should try weights and toning exercises.  The aerobic class is probably really good but you might want to try something with a little more weight and not so much cardio if you want to tone up.

Maybe set a goal to become more toned and develop more muscle instead of weight loss.  Your body might just be at its very healthy weight.
Weight Loss 98 lbs and overfat? Nov 09 2007

I think you are very low body fat percentage.  I am working with a trainer, I am 5'7'' and I weigh 175 (which actually is labeled as a little overweight)  I have my measurements taken and I am 27% body fat.  I am a lot larger than you.  I am working on building muscle but I still have a lot of chubbiness and fat.

I think you look great.  If you want to tone up more, start doing weights or sculpting exercises.  But I think you look great.
Weight Loss Thyroid issues Nov 07 2007

I have hypothyroidism and initially they put me on 50 mcg per day and I noticed no difference in tiredness and weight gain.  They made me wait until 8 weeks of being on meds then they would test it again.  I now take 100 mcg per day.

My advice re:thyroid is to try to keep your tsh(the measure of your thyroid hormone) towards the lower end of the normal range. (the normal range is .4 to 3.0)  I try to keep my tsh around 1.0.  If my tsh gets up closer to 3 or higher I start gaining weight for no reason.  If your doctor refuses to do this, find another doctor who will.  I find it impossible to lose weight when my thyroid is off, in fact I can tell when I need my meds raised b/c I will gain about 6 pounds in 2 weeks.

Keep trying, it will take time.  Eventually the meds will help you feel better.  You are doing the right thing though.  Also, another fyi, if you get pregnant your numbers will go up really high right away and I needed my meds raised right away! (My thyroid was back to hypo 2 days after I found out I was pregnant and I found out I was pregnant sooner than my period was due b/c I took an early result pt)

If you are a size 6 I think you must look really good!  You have had two children and need to give yourself a break.  You probably do have a good amount of muscle.  It doesn't matter what the scale says as long as you look good!  Thats what I am trying to focus on right now.  I am gaining muscle using weights but the scale hasn't moved much but my body fat percentage is going down.

Size 6 is a great, healthy size.  Stay healthy and try not to focus on the scale.  Focus on the things that really matter in life, like your children.  Be healthy still but its not about what you weigh.

The differences in the amount of calories with an extremely accurate reading and an estimate reading (like the tools on cc) are really not that much different.  This bothered me when I first started too, but once I realized that nothing has to be exact it didn't upset me as much.  You will also never have a precise number of calories you eat unless you weigh everything and don't do anything with recipes also.  Sometimes you will have to estimate and thats ok!  Good luck to you.

After having 1-2 meals that are cheat meals, I can tell my stomach feels bloated the next 2 days.  I think it is the sodium and larger amount of food.  I don't weight myself except every couple of weeks now because I was getting too discouraged.

I don't think you are eating enough.  You are working out a lot.  I have this problem too because I started working out a lot and my weight loss stopped and some days I am starving on the lower amount of calories.  Re-evaluate how many calories you need with your higher activity level.

I had always weighed myself everyday but recently put my scale in the basement so I won't weigh myself every morning.  It was so discouraging to see the weight flucuations and I would get really upset.

Now I am going to weigh myself once a week and I think that will help.

Just stick with it, sometimes when you have a small amount to lose those are the hardest.  Is it possible you are at a healthy weight already?  Don't be too hard on yourself.

I don't think you should eat if you are stuffed, I don't think that will raise your metabolism.
Weight Loss Underactive Thyroid and dieting. Oct 11 2007

If you have an underactive throid I don't think you will be able to lose weight unless you take medication to get your thyroid levels in the normal range.  I have hypothyroidism and take levoxyl to keep my levels normal.

Are you against taking medication?  I have seen some natural remedys for underactive thyroid in the form of vitamins.  There are a lot of side affects of being hypothyroid and if you were to get pregnant it has a lot of risks for your baby if your numbers are not in the normal range including mental function.

I just know I have a hard enough time losing weight with normal numbers and when I was underactive, I gained weight no matter what I did.

I have had 3 kids that were all breastfed and my breasts are not perky at all and are a lot more flabby.  I went up a size but I have to buy padded bras that help push up a little bit because they are not where they are supposed to be.

I sometimes get upset about it, but I really enjoyed being able to provide the healthiest milk for by babies and that is so much more important in life than what your breasts look like.  Great job on getting into a size 5 juniors, I only wish I could be that thin!!!  Try to look at your good qualities and I bet your husband is very happy with your body, especially after him seeing you be the mother to his children.

No I'm not using anything to help bulk up, I am a female who is just trying to tone up and lose weight after having 3 kids.  These are the numbers that she wrote down for me re:my progress.  These didn't include the fat capilars which I think was part of the formula she had to calc body fat percentage although I'm not sure.

Weight start 176, now 175               &nb sp;               &nb sp;               &nb sp;               &nb sp;

Overall body fat % start 36.2%, now 32.2%

lbs of fat mass start 63.71, now 56.35 (loss of 7.36 lbs)

lbs lean mass start 112.29, now 118.65 (gain of 6.36 lbs)

neck start 12.75, now 12.5

arm start 11.75, now 11.25

chest start 35.5, now 35.5

I am not lying. I am working with a personal trainer who calculated my body fat and muscle percentages using a measuring tape, weight scale and fat capilars.  I was not trying to be conceited, I was actually a little disappointed that my stomach and hip area stayed the same, I only went down 1 inch in my thigh area.

I guess this could be wrong, I'm not sure, its just what she showed me.  I did really push myself, working out cardio 6 hours that week and 3 personal training appointments and counting calories.
Weight Loss what do you think? Oct 06 2007

You could log it as light activity instead of moderate just to make sure your calorie needs are not estimated too high and if you find you are really hungry on that amount of cals, bump it up to moderate.  Try either one for a week and see how you do.

I don't have advice in the food dept but I am like you.  I workout about 7 hours per week doing weight training and step aerobics and body attack but I am having a hard time monitoring the number of cals I eat b/c of time and motivation.

I am 5'7'', weigh 165 and goal weight is 145.  It seems like I never will get there.  I know for my body, if I don't count cals I will maintain my weight even though I workout a lot b/c my body gets really hungry from working out.

Then there are all these excuses not to follow calorie counting, such as vacations, family camp where they cook your food for you, some restaurants, kids being sick, the list could go on and on.  So I need some motivation too!
Weight Loss LOOSING WEIGHT WHILE BREASTFEEDING??? Jul 18 2007

I don't think that stopping breastfeeding makes you lose weight, if anything, you are more able to lose weight while breastfeeding because it burns more calories. I think your body might hang on to an extra 5 lbs or so when you are breastfeeding because it needs extra fat stores.  You can still count your calories while breastfeeding, but I don't think you should cut calories more than 500 per day.  Breastfeeding women need more calories each day so you should still be able to eat a higher amount of calories.

I think that it is very healthy to breastfeed and I have nursed 3 children each until they were about 14 months old. My reasoning for this was because at 1 year I could switch them to whole milk and that way they never needed formula which saved me a lot of money.

I currently have a 18 month old and I am 5'7'' and was at 175 until he was 9 months old, then I moved down to 165 where I have been for quite a while as I have a hard time sticking with the number of cals I need to lose weight.  When I got pregnant I weighed 155.

Hope this info helps you!
