A levels - bane of my life. What subjects is everyone doing? Going for a run when you're sick to death of revising. It works for me. Just getting active, not staring at words or diagrams. Actually, my godmother, who is a psychologist, says the best way to revise is to study a relatively small piece of information (eg, a chart, or a side of bullet points) then do 10 mins exercise. After that, see if you can remember everything - if not, do it again. Apparently. It doesn't really work for my subjects (English Lit, History and Spanish) :D Foodwise, I tend to eat normally. You can't focus on work if you're hungry all the time. Good healthy food. Also - mmmm. Frozen grapes..... |

Tea. No calories: but I tend to have it with a digestive (sometimes a chocolate one) because, for some odd reason, hot tea + biscuit completely fills me up. about 80 calories, thats more filling for me than a proper meal. I kid you not. Sadly, I'm off dairy atm, and I hate black tea. So - and don't laught - I've turned to running. I run better when I'm not full, and afterwards I don't get hungry for a good few hours. At least three. So if I'm hungry shortly after lunch, the second I can I'll go for a run. Often I have to make myself eat at supper because I'm so not hungry, but its better later after the run has worn off. Then I don't snack on toast and porridge and noodles. |

I can't stop myself eating. I'm a student, and exams require sitting around most of the day. My mum says that hunger is psychological, and i agree with her up to a point, because when I'm doing something boring, I get hungry all the time! My stomach rumbles et al. I love exercise, I play hockey and I run most days, and I find both of them easier when I haven't eaten much. But I cannot stop eating! Anything; vegetables will do just as well, but my flatmates all require bread, chocolate spread, porridge, etc etc. AH! |

| Motivation | One day, I will | Feb 25 2009 17:04 (UTC) |

One day I will: Be a size 8 Get rid of eczema, all of it, neck, face, back, arms, legs, scalp. Live in the Mediterranean Cycle to Istanbul Find someone who makes me happy, and not mess it up Learn Yiddish
Never again will I: Cheat in an exam Fall into that stupor where you only see the negative Break someone's heart. I'm sorry Be jealous of my friends
I'm embarrassed to admit that: I lied that I'd had sex when I hadn't. Damn peer pressure. I live in my head about 40% of the time. My life is largely fantasy. How pathetic is that? |

| OK, just to warn everyone, I'm going to have a moan:
I have completely lost any sort of motivation. Its now half term, and I have to revise for my last exam - the crucial one for me to get into university. quite intense. which basically means that I sit around staring at my notes all day. Also, because of the truly godawful weather, i can't do any exercise. It is currently pouring with rain. Not even shopping or going out with friends, because I live in the middle of nowhere, and both my parents work. And I can't drive alone yet. And, I have quite mild SAD, so I get a little depressed when its rain anyway. I am currently home alone, bored of revision with very little to do. Except eat. Because yesterday my parents had a dinner party, and stocked up on all my favourite foods for it, most of which was left over. So I am home alone, bored, with my body's nemesis and my appetite's favourite: Ben and Jerry's Cookie Dough. I have already eaten half a tub. I have also eaten haagen dazs' pralines and cream and cookies and cream, and ben and jerry's baked alaska. about half a tub of each of those too. In addition to these joys, I have severe eczema, which flares up when i eat a lot of dairy products/bananas/oranges, lots of sugar. So I look like the singing detective atm. And when I look this bad anyway, its very difficult to say: Oh, if I just eat 1200 calories today, and tomorrow, and the day after, and the day after that, for you know, three weeks or so, I may lose 2 lbs. whoop dee doo. OK, I'm done now. |

| Young Calorie Counters | "guys dig curves" garbage | May 22 2008 15:48 (UTC) |

| Slightly off-topic, but what i really dislike is how some people call fat people, actually fat, probably quite overweight (it doesn't extend to obese though) curvy. They are not curvy. They are FAT.
Anyway, yep. guy like girls with big boobs/bum. small waist ideal. skinny legs, arms, neck etc quite necessary. Ooh, what also gets me is the 'ideal' woman. Its a strange mixture of gay fashion designers and male lust: long, thin legs, no hips, tiny waist, enormous boobs, small shoulders + frame, no arse. come on. get real. |

| sheriglass - I'm sure some of it's water weight. give it a couple of days.
Bugsy - I have no idea, m'fraid. If you do put it on again, its not as if you've put on weight, just returned to the original plan. If not, then, well, yay. Also, I was wondering, how tall are you? Just, we're the same age, et al... I'm 5"4. Would love to lose a stone. so much! |

| Weight Loss | Helpp..!! :( | May 18 2008 22:51 (UTC) |

| Bear in mind that you may be toning up and gaining muscle in lieu of the fat, and muscle weighs nearly 5 times as much as fat (methinks..?). How do you look? Your face normally loses weight first - have you noticed a difference?
11 stone 1... thats 155 lbs (american site, needs american system) When you say you've been watching what you eat, what have you been doing? Have you worked out your calorie expenditure and deficit needed? Use the tools on this site to work out how much you need, because if you eat too little your body goes into starvation and won't budge from your weight. I'm assuming you're a girl (sorry if you're not!), but as such you need at least 1200 calories per day. If this is the case, its unusual not to have lost any weight (a lb or two then stop i would say is normal for starvation) but that could be attributed to muscle gain. Try and sort out what vitamins/minerals etc you're getting too. That should help. Otherwise, I don't know! Hope it goes well! mango :) |

| hey bugsy - maybe (don't want to sound negative, but) its water-weight? I don't really know what that is, but many people here bandy it about, so...?
alternatively, you've built up some muscle which is burning calories more effectively...yay! hey - don't complain! |

| Young Calorie Counters | How old were you when you had your first kiss? | May 18 2008 14:46 (UTC) |
145 |
| When I was 12. Dear Lord, it was awful. I really liked the guy and everything, we were going out, but he could not kiss. It was like having some sort of strangely strong slug inserted into my mouth.
We broke up about 3 months later. I guess we couldn't handle the steaminess... ;) Since then, plenty, but the best was actually very recently, about two months ago. And I'm 17 now, so, as always, practice makes perfect... But, obviously, as everyone has already said, has to be some one you like, da di da. |

| Weight Loss | body fat 33%!?! | May 15 2008 19:22 (UTC) |

| ing_spain May 14 2008 01:22 Hi!! I was wondering in wich site did you find out that calculator? I think is so wrong cause its impossible to measure your body fat in internet lol. I have EXACTLY the same stats as you, female, 27 years old, 5'7'' and 128 lbs and I got my body fat measure in my Tanita scale and it says 27% and even that number I think is wrong!! I mean, I HOPE IS WRONG! lol (don't know how to quote) i have a tanita thing too, I'm 5"4, 133 lbs, and my body fat is 27.4.l So i'm pretty sure yours must be wrong. women are meant to have at least 10% body fat. You need it for boobs and hips and thighs and stuff. still, its depressing to think I am over a quarter fat... |

| Young Calorie Counters | Period Question | May 08 2008 20:28 (UTC) |
|
| Definitely - while my period doesn't stop completely (sadly :( ), it does become really irregular, so sometimes I'll have it twice in a fortnight (yes, that is 14 days of solid period - fun) and other times I'll have nothing for 3-4 months. I think - as long as you're not trying to get pregnant in the near future - that its OK.
At least, I hope its ok... |

| Hey guys! really really late - sorry!
well done to everybody for losing their first couple of pounds! I'm down to 132! yayayayayay! only 7 more to go by June 14th! Serious problem though - its REALLY hot here. I don't want to eat, because I feel hotter. which means I'm not reaching my minimum, which means i'm going into starvation - BUT I CAN'T MAKE MYSELF EAT! i just can't. help, anybody? mango |
|||
| Weight Loss | What is your reason? | May 05 2008 20:53 (UTC) |
36 |
| 1) To feel secure and good about myself
2) To be able to wear the clothes I like in shops, rather than seeing this small whale bulging out of them 3)To stop growing out of clothes 4) To not have to shrink into the background because I am so much fatter than all of my friends 5)My current aim: to look good for my parents' wedding anniversary. My whole family sidestep around the fact that I am fat, never wanting to admit it. That makes me feel bad. |
|||
| Weight Loss | Cheat day? | May 04 2008 20:54 (UTC) |
15 |
| I know lots of people who do that, and I do too if I really can't bear dieting a second longer. Again, just maintenance, which is pretty crucial. As long as you can limit it to just one day, I think its fine. For me, it means I don't completely give up on my diet because I'm so sick of it.
Rachel from Friends does it too. Except she calls it her 'seventh day'. She's looking pretty slim, so it can't be all that bad. |

| I'm happy because exams will be over in a month!
I'm happy because it's the weekend tomorrow and I'm going out with two of my closest friends! I'm happy because it has been so SUNNY! I'm happy because I just had some mango sorbet...mmmm! |

| Weight Loss | General bikini question (for both guys and girls) | May 02 2008 20:25 (UTC) |
22 |
| Go to the beach. For fun. For laughs. For sheer abandon - get into that bikini/swimsuit, feel good about yourself, have FUN. What is the point of working so hard to get your weight down 32 lbs if you're NOT GOING TO ENJOY IT?
You may feel you're not perfect, but nobody feels they're perfect. Ever. Even the really skinny people. If it's not about their weight, its about their skin, or how their legs are too short, or that they're not tan enough. Weight is just another one of those things. And if you really can't be happy with how you are compared to other people, pretend to be. That's probably quite bad advice, but it works for me :). Then I end up liking it, and other people just see how happy I am! |
|||
| Young Calorie Counters | So. What do YOU want to do with your life? | May 01 2008 20:10 (UTC) |
29 |
| Not entirely sure, but anything between documentaries, tv journalism, political law, foreign diplomacy and working for the UN. not that i'm picky :)
right now, i desperately want to go to Oxford. So much. Unfortunately, the ratio of applicants to places on my course is 18:1. I hope I'm the 1 :) |

| Weight Loss | Can stress really hinder weight loss? Thanks for any help you can give me. | Apr 24 2008 16:04 (UTC) |
4 |
| I can't say I'm an expert on this, but I have read that stress triggers a gland (couldn't tell you which one) to slow it's hormone release, which leads to your metabolism slowing down. It may well be that stress is acting against you.
In the same article, it said that fish oils helped stimulate this gland. I'm afraid I can't really vouch for the reliability of this information, but I'm now taking fish oil pills once a day, and I really think it has helped my weight loss. I can't promise, but I think it has helped me, so try it if you feel like it. the pills are relatively cheap, and it takes about a second of your day. good luck! |

| Weight Loss | after dinner snacking | Apr 24 2008 15:59 (UTC) |

| hot, low-cal drink will normally fill me up, if that helps. add sugar if you so wish, or honey, or whatever.
going for a walk is brilliant. put the iPod in, power it up for a mile or so. your body quickly learns that it's not going to be fed anytime soon, and ought to be working on burning calories to feed the walk. However, when you finish, you will probably feel hungrier, so make sure that you drink a lot of water a) to replenish what you've sweated out and b)to fill you up a bit more. If you're really hungry just before bed, try some fruit, or low-fat yoghurt. should fill you up enough until breakfast. |
|||
| Weight Loss | What do your meals look like? | Apr 24 2008 15:52 (UTC) |
9 |
| have a bowl of cereal in the morning. especially the fibrous ones - keep you full for longer and clean out your digestive system (i'm not sure how, but apparently they do). Have two if you're liable to get hungry. I try to have a bigger breakfast than supper, although it is hard when you aren't hungry when you've just woken up!
try having a vegetable based supper. then you can have lots and its not too calorific. the 'eat like a king...' idea works. Just stick to it! |
|||
| Motivation | What keeps you motivated!?!? | Apr 24 2008 15:36 (UTC) |

| the weight loss - if i can keep it up, I'll look this good...etc
also, when i really really really really want to eat, and i don't care, i've lost enough now, i just want that ice cream I go to my mirror and take a long, hard look at my tummy. that usually does the trick. |

prawns, mussels and oysters. which is weird because i like all other seafood. olives. just yuck. |

| Foods | big breakfast anyoneee?? | Apr 19 2008 15:31 (UTC) |

| I need a big breakfast to get going in the morning! Besides..."breakfast like a king" and all that. I normally go for greek yoghurt, muesli, honey and chopped fruit on top. I tried it in greece about 3 years ago, and cannot get enough of it! Plus, its really healthy.
I try not to think about the calories in the yoghurt though...:( |
