From reading other posts of Kylie's I know that she is receiving medical support.  All I can say is my thoughts are with you.  Totally agree with how you feel.  EDs are your best friend and your worst enemy, but how many of us wish we'd never met in the first places?! x

I don't think it makes that much difference - possibly a little more sickly sweet.  I made it for three guys who munched a whole tray of chocolate brownies made with diet coke.  Neither of them commented on it tasting strange and it all got eaten so must be a good sign.  They seemed a little put out when I told them it was diet coke brownie though!

Yup! The diet coke replaces all the wet ingredients that are normally added to the box mix.  A good tip is to let the diet coke go a bit flat first.  I'd open the can a few hours before you intend to make the cake.  Other than that remember diet coke etc for chocolatey/fudge cakes but it won't look so nice with angel cake etc.  I'd then suggest a clear soda! And I don't know if it necessarily makes the cake low calorie, but def. less calories!

I've just started reading a book on intuitive eating (also trying to recover from an ED).  It looks like it has some useful pointers.  Authors are: Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch

Keira, your profile says you're trying to recover from anorexia? But on the same page, you say you want to get to 115lb and you're 5 foot 8.  That makes no sense! I have the same stats so now that BMI is too low

Hear, Hear.  I can totally empathise (have problems myself), but this post isn't offering any advice etc.  It seems everyone is trying to 'trump' everyone else's binges.  What is it achieving?

Sugar Free fruitellas are good for the chewing thing! Cremosa sugar free lollies are also only around 50 calories.  Salt and Vingear Snack a jack popcorn is 48 calories.  Diet Coke, Haribo lite.  Or try some frozen yogurt from the ice cream counter in the cinema.  The little tubs they sell in the cinema tend to have calories written on them which helps.  Raspberries are low calorie and yummy!

It's about preparing in advance i think.  For example if you like popcorn, bring the snack-a-jacks popcorn with u in ur bag (48 kcal for a bag of salted, and they do a caramel one too but can't recall the calories for that).  Or have a big diet coke... it really fills you up.  If you're eating out then try and do some research beforehand and decide what you will have... for example, wetherspoons have all their calorie informtion on their website.  Lots of other restaurants do too.  So guess my advice would be to do your homework... And do the ummming and ahhhhing about what ull have before u go out, this will make u less tempted to go with unhealthy choices x

It's amazing how much your story rings true! I want to so badly not to be locked into a binge-purge-restrict cycle but I can't seem to find a medium.  Often when I try and eat 'normally' my ED tells me "f**k it" uv already messed up now so just carry on - then I'll eat till I physically can't stop.  And then I can't deal with it and I know if I throw up I'll just feel that little bit better.  And it's so gross! I didn't suffer from EDs in my teens and now I don't see why i have to in my twenties (22 now).  And i've gained 7lb or so and I pretend to be happy but I know deep down that i'm so uneasy and if left to my own devices the weight would probably slip off.  And b/c i fear the binges so much I barely eat all day so i have 'leeway' - even though i know that's half the problem.  AH the vicious circle.  Sorry i don't have any tips or anything, but just wanted to offer my support! If you ever want anyone to talk to about it.... I missed my final year (university) exams in  June b/c i was getting too sick and now I am sitting them in a week or two.  Stress def. makes the ed worse.  All these tips about when u feel like u may binge, get out the house etc.  When you're stuck cramming how can u do that.  Argh! All the best to you x

Count me in... I'm from our delightful little island too! Congrats on moderator status minbin, have you been doing this long? I don't think you were one when we chatted briefly. I love this website!!! And best of all it's free. It's funny how you can normally guess from the posts who's from England, it's the odd little words or the mention of our brands.  There seems to be so much more choice in american supermarkets - I'm jealous! I loved the powdered peanut butter that i bought from there.... mmmm.

In reply to your comment about putting weight on your face and stomach.  I think this is normal.  You need to stay at the same weight for a while in order to let it all distribute.  If you're eating more all of a sudden then i'd expect ur stomach to bloat, it doesn't mean your tummy now has a ton more fat.  I'm also trying the weight gain thing and I can totally relate to you.  I'm 5 foot 8, and have gone from 110 to 119.  At the start my tummy seemed massive esp. given my relatively small arms and legs.  It seems to be getting flatter these days even if I weigh more, so I guess that's a plus.  I think the best thing is to gain the weight first and then you can think about toning.  It's weird feeling flabby and yet being underweight but i guess it's just the lack of muscle tone.  I still have days where I can't help but feel like I've failed (b/c I have gained weight) but then I have to remind myself that it was a conscious choice on my part to fight this ED.  Good luck to you on your path to health x

One calorie is 4.18 joules! I found the most helpful thing to do was bring back a set of those american measuring cups.  I bought mine from the dollar store! And weightwise I guess u just get used to it.  Or buy some cheapy scales! Enjoy the states (where it's much easier to buy diet food... well in my opinion!).  Good Luck x  Ps/ where r u au pairing?

Fantastic idea... Homes are Bournemouth and Bath.  Also spend a fair amount of time in Michigan, USA.  To the Brit living in Ohio... Is the Meijers chain there? I know Michigan has it and they do a Brit section but my god is it expensive (doesn't stop me mind... amazing the cravings u get when u know u can't have it) x

Even if you didn't move from your bed once during the day you would need at least 1200 calories to exist (for a 5 foot 2 woman) and you need even more since you're energy needs are higher as a teenager.  Your body needs food for your heart to beat, your hand to move, your mouth to cough... etc! Regardless of whether u study at ur desk all day

Well you're already medically underweight.  And the absence of your period is a sign of malnutrition.  Short of going to a doctor, it's impossible to help you.  Since I am sure you are aware of the facts and what you need to do.  Have you used the tools section of this website to work out your expenditure? X

Could you try writing a letter? Do you keep a journal on here? This could help if people can post their replies to your thoughts.  You really do need to get some help.  What are your current goals (warped or not) - weight loss or maintenance? If you don't mind me asking, how tall and how heavy are you?

Take Care x

My heart goes out to you.  But you need professional help at this point.  I think it's clear you're suffering from an eating disorder (as I am but I realise this).  You can have anything in moderation... You will not gain weight from eating what u fancy.  You have self control! The absence of a menstrual cycle is a worrying sign of undereating and/or eating disorder.  Have you spoken to anyone about your problems?
Health & Support how many calories do u binge? May 26 2007

Totally agree about this binging/overeating distinction.  Overeating tends to be oh that's yum... maybe another slice etc! Binging.... well it's not for pleasure.  It's kind of a zone.  Like of course I don't like the taste of the 11th bowl of wheat cereal.... or a ten pack of yogurts.  U just eat till it runs out and then feel hideous... And why do it?! God only knows! My binging followed a year of restriction.  I think there are simply foods that I won't be able to eat now.  I've just left my parent's house because they had loads of junk and it started the cycle.... Binging isn't something people enjoy! Sorry for the rant! It's not even being 'greedy' - it's a kind of self harm.  My binges must be in the 1000s, could never count.  But it gets to the point where u r physically in pain (let alone mentally).  I hate the liberal use of the term.... Grrr x

I think I may have read this on here originally.... Maybe even red_herring suggested it.  I know it was an Ozzie!!! But, try weetabix with some boiling water and low kcal/fat hot chocolate powder.  Maybe a tsp of splenda if needed.  Mix it all up.  A hot and thick choc pudding!!!! Yummy.... you can make the whole thing for like 80 calories or so xxx
