Osteoarthritis in my knees at age 35 and 235 lbs. I am now 37, 170 lbs and pain free. Still 30 more lbs to go tho before I am done losing, but my motivation has shifted to more general health and appearance reasons now that I've gotten a glimpse of how good carrying less weight feels ... |

Me too .. when I first started working out and was very out of shape ... my face used to get so red the gym management kept asking me if I was OK. It got better as I got fitter .. less red, takes more to go red, and goes away faster. Breathing deeper helps - make sure you are not holding your breath, particularly when doing crunches. |

I am so stuck!! At least I don't have to retype my weight because it's exactly the same. Glad to see that so many of you are having so much success with your weight this summer. Feel free to share your secrets! H: 5'3.5" P.S. I am doing plenty of exercise, but eating too much. I hardly ever have a day when I meet my calorie goal (1400 but I usually eat 1700-1800 which means no deficit), and am hungry all the time. |

I am struggling with the same thing .. going from 50% carbs to 40% while staying in the same calories and trying to add protein. I have done OK with replacing fruits with vegetables and nuts. I mostly ate fruits as snacks (4-5/day before) and have cut back to 1-2 fruits, 1-2 veg snacks and 1 nut snack. The difference in calories between the fruits and the vegetables has let me fit in the nuts (higher calories for a portion) while keeping calories the same. Hoping for results from the switch. Hope this helps. |

My weigh in from yesterday H: 5'3.5" Still above my starting weight but down .4 lbs from last week ... i'll take it. Feel like I am heading in the right direction again and like my body might finally be getting used to the weight training and more protein. I am going to continue to emphasize substituting vegetables for fruits in my diet this week, as I work to get my carbs down and my protein up while staying under 1600 calories/day. Not as many social commitments this week, so I should do better with calories than I have been. Good luck this week to everyone!! |

Here's my weigh in from yesterday -- definitely paid for the holiday weekend: H: 5'3.5" The trend is in the wrong direction, but there were restaurants, cake, ice cream, barbecue, alcohol, and I have been SOOO hungry so there are defintely extra calories (averaging around 1800, but with a few 2000+ days over the weekend) although I am exercising a lot more lately and I should have burned enough to lose weight. Last week: 5 90 min hot yoga classes, 2 elliptical interval workouts 30 mins each, lifted weights once. I am concerned about the gain, and going to concentrate more on my calories & protein intake this week. Lifting weights and eating more protein may be backfiring for me, making me hungry and putting on weight?? Oh well... tomorrow's another day... |

I hate whole foods!! Half the produce is conventional, not organic, anyways, and just overpriced, but it is confusing to shop with it all mixed together. And I always find bugs in my bags when I come home from whole foods! I will take the organic section of my regular market anyday. |

Me too. I have lost 70 lbs, 4 clothing sizes, and 1/2 shoe size, from a 7 to a 6.5. The shoe thing is disappointing, it is the one thing I thought was supposed to fit at any size ... and now I can't wear some of my favorites!! I did try some of those gel insoles to take up room in some of my shoes and they made some of them wearable again, but it didn't work w every pair/style. |

Here's my weigh in from yesterday: H: 5'3.5" Starting to see a little trend downward ... woo hoo... although it's taken a long time and it's still within range of possibly being only water weight. I am going to concentrate more on my calories & protein intake this week, my calories were a little high last week, but I was really hungry all the time. It's great to see everybody's progress and I wish you all the best for another successful week!!! I am gearing up for the 4th of July holidays ... another tough one, lots of tempting foods!

Hi all!!! You are all doing terrific!! Congrats on all your hard work! I am staying off the scale this week because I am trying a new trainer and some diet changes (more protein/same cals) to shake things up and don't want to get discouraged. But can't wait to weigh in next week and see some results!!! |

I am UP .4 lbs, though hoping its just a fluctuation or water (there was extra sodium in my diet yesterday). I averaged 1636 calories/day for the week, and logged over 10 hours of exercise total so I don't see how a real gain is possible. Here's my stats: H: 5'3.5" Challenge SW (Memorial Day): 167 CW: 167.4 GW: 135 Glad I am part of this but sorry to spoil the momentum with my weight gain. I am logging anyways and keeping it honest ... that's part of the challenge, right? |

I pack nuts, protein bars, pouches of tuna for lean protein. Can buy fruit & water almost anyplace ... it's not a popular choice but there are usually apples & oranges for sale at Starbucks, and from room service in hotels you can always just ask for fruit or cut veggies, plain, even if they are not on the menu. I use hotel fitness centers sometimes, but if I don't have room to pack gym shoes I either bring a swimsuit (always fits in my bag) & swim in the hotel pool or try local yoga studios. Yoga clothes are easy to pack, you don't need shoes, can rent a mat and drop in for a class in the early morning before meetings. I've also packed resistance bands and fitness or yoga DVDs to do in my hotel room. Hope this helps. |

I am also a tuna lover ... but switched to light tuna from white tuna. White tuna has 3X more mercury than light -- so you can eat more light. |

I had the same prob once and did well with putting a hair wax on the thin ends to weigh them down and get them looking less wispy. The one I have is Tigi brand - it comes in what looks like a thick metal tube and I think I got it at CVS. |

How soon after eating the pizza was it? Yoga really requires an empty stomach, I'd probably wait at least 2-3 hours after eating pizza to practice. If I'm really hungry before yoga, I'll have a piece of fruit, but not much else. Or I'll go easy on the twists & inversions if I've eaten more recently. |

| Fitness | Sports Bra Anyone?? | Mar 05 2009 20:15 (UTC) |

The Title Nine Last resort and the Enell are the same bra. The sizing is odd (I am a 34DDD or 36DD so narrow but full ... and I couldn't get an Enell bra to fit) and I also found the fabric to be thick and hot (temperature not appearance, these bras are not sexy). I like underwire sports bras by Lunaire and Champion in fabrics like Coolmax that breathe a little more. Try a good lingerie store in your area, as you really need to try them on to find out what fits you best... a good fit is important and will offer more support. |

| Weight Loss | How many bags of sugar? | Mar 04 2009 16:32 (UTC) |

Yes. Last year when I went on vacation, I had lost 45 lbs at that point. When I checked in my suitcase at the airport, it weighed exactly 45 lbs and I left the counter almost in tears. I couldn't believe I'd lived carrying the equivalent of that bag on my back every day. At this point, I've lost 70 lbs (I want to lose 90-100).... and I can't even imagine, carrying that weight again. That's so heavy, the airlines won't even let you check a 70 pound bag... |

That soup recipe looks delicious ... but in answer to your question, it probably depends on how you cooked it originally, but I reheat tofu in the microwave all the time. Sometimes it gets a little softer than in the original recipe but its minor. |

| Weight Loss | So out of shape , please help | Feb 02 2009 16:11 (UTC) |

I was 235 when I starte working out 2 years go and am now 168 so hang in there. Quick tip -- look for a "quick start" button on the machine to avoid the entering of personal details (I was also self-conscious about this). I started with the elliptical for as long as I could (it's harder than the bike), then switched to the bike when I couldn't do the elliptical any longer. Over time, my endurance improved and I did more elliptical and less bike (and burned more calories) and you will too. Good luck. |

| Weight Loss | Has anyone tried the Fat Flush Diet? | Feb 02 2009 16:05 (UTC) |

I tried it briefly, years ago, and am relying on memory. What I remember is being really hungry, and only lasting about 3 days. And a lot of diluted cranberry juice. It's nothing like Atkins, what I remember is very little, very specific foods that were not particularly low carb. It would work if you have the willpower to follow it (I didn't but maybe you do), but I think it would be a short term solution. |
