I'm so thankful for every single post here!! 1. It makes me know I'm not alone! 2. I realize many people hate the same things I do - and some are actually "finding" these new muscles just as I am. 3. I've had to look up many of these exercises (never even heard of them. Therefore I have learned a LOT - Side note: I'm amazed that some people are actually strong enough to do them...hopeful that someday I will be 1/2 that strong. 4. Touched that so many people took the time to post to this thread...Thank you!! And keep them coming! |

LOL - I can't do even one push-up on the floor! I do mine on the stairs (and hate them equally), but I look forward to the day that I can do one perfect push-up from the floor. That would be awesome! |

| Weight Loss | UUGH! Anyone else have problems not overeating before and during TOM? | Feb 03 2009 18:42 (UTC) |

Yep - and I think about it and decide what exactly it is that I'm craving...and I eat it. I only allow myself to do this on one day. Last time it was Spaghetti - I'm Italian and I love pasta. So I made it and I ate it. Next day I got back on plan - and since I satisfied my most heart-felt craving...I didn't have anymore. That works the best for me. :-) Hope you find your perfect solution.

Passion... Do you live in a winter climate? The reason I ask is because you sound like me last year. Then someone told me to get a full-spectrum light. They said they thought that I might have SAD. Even though I didn't start using it until winter was half over it helped.. This year, I began my light therapy as soon as fall began. I have double the energy I've ever had in winters past. I have no problem with energy to workout. I don't have the cravings I've had in past years for sugary foods etc. Just a thought... |

Glen, First of all...good for you!! The only time you really fail is if you give up. Don't give up. Just keep plugging forward. It's great that you're walking several times a day. When that is not a challenge you will want to add time. I walk twice a day and started at 20 minutes a time. Then after awhile I tried to make sure I got farther in my 20 minutes than I did before. Eventually I added another 10 minutes to the walk...then tried to speed up, etc. You get it...you're building your cardio endurance. I would also like to encourage you to start doing some strength training. Get some hand weights and start there. Do squats without weights if you can. Pushups - against the wall to start, etc. Something to build your muscles back up. As you well know it's the muscles that burn the fat even when we're resting. I'm proud of you. It's NEVER too late to start. You are going to find out just how wonderfully our body responds to your efforts. I'm amazed every day at how much stronger and fit I am getting. Faster than I thought I would...my body just continues to surprise me. Yours will too!

That's exactly what I'm talking about. It's really been an eye opener to me to realize what high value I've put on food. Instead of looking at events for the people and the joy I should get out of being with them, I'm more worried about what I should or should not eat. And to be completely honest when I was eating anything I wanted (which got me in the shape I'm in now) I loved these events - and I think more for the food than the people. Shame on me!!! In the process of changing my diet and lifestyle, I'm learning to put the REALLY important things in life back in the position of honor they deserve. And rightfully putting food in it's rightful place in my life. I see just how rediculouse I've been and how much I need to change. All good life lessons...for my NEW HEALTHY LIFE! :-) Thanks for understanding!!! |

EXACTLY!!! That's what I'm talking about. When you can barely lift the scrunchy in the shower to wash, because you've worked your arms so hard. I have to climb a flight of stairs after I workout (I workout in my basement) and that flight of stairs after doing a leg workout...is quite a challenge. LOL |

Congratulations! I'm so proud of you. It sure is nice to see a nice big number in the loss category isn't it? You keep up the great work! This is a great site to track everything. I've bounced around and I'm back - there just isnt a site out there that is as comprehensive as this one. I love all the tools, especially the toolbar! Calorie Count cudos to you!!! |

Jackie, I had a son that went to both Afghanistan and Iraq. I know the stress you're under just having a child in harms way. These good people will give you excellent diet advice. I just wanted you to know that I will add your son to my prayers, and I recommend you quit watching the news PERIOD until he returns home. You too will be in my prayers. Thank your son for me when he returns for his service to our country and his part in protecting my freedom. From one military mom to another! Tammy |

| Foods | The biggest waste of a diet food | Jun 09 2008 16:47 (UTC) |

Alot of those diet foods are just wasted calories. They have ZERO nutritional value. I'm trying really hard to look at my food as fuel...and try NOT to put junk fuel into my tank. But I know sometimes you just have a sweet craving that fruit will not quench. If I'm going to splurge on a snack of some sort, it's going to be REAL dark chocolate or ice cream. Something that hits the spot and rids me of the craving. :-) The worst thing I've ever wasted my money on in the past was fat-free butter. It tasted like butter flavored pudding. HORRIBLE! |

One of my favorite breakfasts is 1/2 cup fat free cottage cheese, 1/2 cup pineapple chunks, 1/2 cup Fiber One. You could put the cottage cheese and fruit and in a rubbermaid container and bring it to work - adding the Fiber One when you get there. It's a great breakfast with protien fruit and LOTS of filling fiber. Very filling and long lasting. |

Flogging you are SOOO RIGHT!!! If you don't build strength and just lower calories and do lots of cardio, you may lose weight, but you don't have the lean muscle mass to maintain it. It's NOT all about losing weight, but getting trim, lean and healthy! That's a long term outlook! I've done strictly calorie reduction and lost weight. I've done a high cardio plan and lost weight...and I've always gained back MORE than I lost eventually. Now I've finally incorporated strength training and the weight is coming off, the inches are coming off and it's STAYING off! |

Carlyrapp, they must calculate the milk and butter into the added calories for scrambled. I'm just going off the calorie-count calories and what they say everything is. If I'm wrong, the site is wrong. |

Charming, Hey it's ME. :-) I just want to ask you if you've been using the food log here on Calorie-Count? That will not only tell you the calories in the food choices you've made or are thinking of making, but if you click on Analyse it will tell you if you're making good choices by giving them a grade. I've found that tool so very helpful. For example a regular egg is 72 calories. Scrambled it's about 199 calories. Egg substitute is 30 calories - scrambled then it's probably about 157 calories. You don't really have a lot of good choices in your cafeteria and that's a shame for you. But your choice for breakfast is a good one. And like lizshuler said...breakfast should be one of your biggest meals. :-)

| Foods | what do you add to your yogurt? | Apr 17 2008 19:02 (UTC) |

Mish, That sounds fabulous. But if you substitute Fiber One for the granola, you would really cut the fat AND add a ton of fiber. And that would be one very healthy and nutritious treat! Tammy |

| Foods | Imagine, what if there were HEALTHY CAKES? | Apr 14 2008 04:41 (UTC) |

You can make cake in various ways to cut the fat...but it doesn't eliminate the unhealthy carbohydrates of the white flour and sugar. And if you frost it...well then that's more sugar and fat. If you're looking at good choices of fuel - IT'S NOT. But if you crave it from time to time you should figure out a way to include it in your calories. If avoid things you love for too long - you binge. I have a problem with sweets. If I allow myself to eat them, it's like I'm an addict. Once I give in...I want them every day. I usually have them every day. And I have to force myself to quit eating them and eating them. So because of my personal problem, I have to nearly avoid them completely if I want to have any kind of control. :-( But Im finding alternative things I love like Apples with peanut butter. And for some reason dark chocolate doesn't have the same affect on me. So I stick with those types of things when I need a sweet fix.

| Weight Loss | People on here with low expectations | Apr 11 2008 17:22 (UTC) |

I agree that there is a difference between having reasonable expectations and unusually LOW expectations. And there are those that start out by making excuses for how they are NOT going to succeed - and they are therefore NOT going to succeed. The Bible says: Proverbs 23:7 For as he thinketh within himself, so is he. The more you say you'll never do it...the more you believe you will never do it...you might as well face the fact that YOU WILL NEVER DO IT. Until a person changes that within themselves, they're really fulfilling their own prophetic word about themselves. You have to believe first - and then achieve!

If you don't mind buying a DVD, I would recommend The Biggest Loser Power Sculpt DVD. It's only $9.99 on Amazon. It has three levels and you can work your way up from the beginner to the Advanced. It's all body weight or free hand weights. You pick the weight you can work with. So not only can you move up in the workouts, you can also increase your weights as time goes by. Therefore I think this DVD will work for me no matter how fit I get. |

I'm not so much upset that people remember 9/11 as I am that they seem to forget our troops. You're right...life just goes on. This war has NOT inconvenienced our country one bit. Remember the day when everyone chipped in and supported our military in any way they were able? Boy oh boy are those days gone!!! And those that want to pull out...well I had a son that served in both Iraq and Afghanistan...if he had died there (supporting his country)...I can't imagine how I would feel if THIS country just bailed out of the fight. Then his sacrifice would have been totally in VAIN. Now that we're there, we better not return until we can return with HONOR. |

| I checked your profile. You are a successful young woman. Going to Law School!!! Good for you!!! Focus on the wonderful things in your life. Stay busy!!
Don't let the break-up steal your ability to get yourself healthy and fit. In fact use this time to get a handle on your eating and set up time for you to exercise. I don't know where you are spiritually, but this would be a good time to get to know the Lord. His Word will show you that He is the only thing that brings true happiness. Relying on people to do this for you is a recipe for disaster. Learning to be a happy and joyful person on your own means that when that next relationship comes along you won't be relying on someone else to MAKE you happy. You will be bringing your own joyful self into a relationship and adding that joy to someone else's life. It works MUCH better. |

| Good for YOU!!! Each day begins again. That's the way to do it...one day at a time. Then if you botch one, they start over - brand new the very next day. And you CAN get that day right. Eventually if you have MORE days that go right than wrong...you win and LOSE (weight that is) :-) I'm proud of you for day one...done right. Blessings! | |||

| Annie,
You didn't do anything wrong posting here...just that there are probably many like me who can't even imagine being hurt by a comment of being too thin. :-( I just came on here this morning looking for something inspiring to keep me focused on my constant battle with my weight and read your post first. I thought if this were a forum for people in serious debt who needed help getting control of thier finances, would it be appropriate for someone who's terribly rich to get on here and post about how difficult it is to be resented because they have so much money? It was a bit hard to swallow, that's all. Seeing the responses to your posts there are obviously more people than I imagined on this exact forum that can both sympathize and empathize with your particular problem. I was the one that was wrong... |

| Wow - being over 200lbs myself...I can't imagine being insulted by this. But I'm trying to be sympathetic. :-) While I can understand you being on calorie-count (even thin people need to track their calorie intake) I'm wondering why you're posting this in the Weight-loss section? You HAVE to know that most of the people reading this are overweight...and may not be able to relate to what you are saying...right? | |||
