Weight Loss cold weather requires more calories? Jan 27 2009

http://www.thatsfit.com/2007/12/28/cold-clima te-calorie-burn/

Dont know how accurate this article is..but I have read ones like it before.  If you get to the point of shivering, then you are definitley burning more calories.  Also the extra weight of winter clothes can make you burn more calories....but seems like it would all be negligible.

Who knows?

EDIT:  This article is interesting too:)

http://www.thenakedscientists.com/forum/index .php?topic=3326

BUT THIS ARTICLE SAYS THE OPPOSITE!!!  lol.  Says we burn less calories in the cold????

Young Calorie Counters Muscle weighs more than fat ? Jan 19 2009

When I was your age, I was same height (still am) and within that weight range. (125-130)  I lifted weights 5 times a week and participated in sports.  I was not fat at all!!!  Lol.  I was very strong and I loved it!

I remember that I wore about a size 4 and other girls my same age/weight (but usually a bit taller) would be wearing size 8's and 10's.  Just because they had way less muscle than me and more fat!    MUSCLE ROCKS!  ((Of course  they may have been fibbing about how much they weighed, lol.))

Holy smokes I am exhausted!!! BEYOND EXHAUSTED.

I am just noticing that I signed up for a 10k.  Well I forgot and thought I was just signed up for a 5k.   No way am I going back to do another 5   so 5k it is now.

My daughter and I went down to the track.  The first quarter of a mile we walked sideways (sort of) to break a trail through the 10 inches of powder.  We tried to push it out of the way using our boots...it sorta worked.....  Underneath was still another foot or so of heavier snow that we couldnt push out of the way.  It made for incredibly uneven ground to run on.  I thought it would get more evenly packed down as we ran....but it just got worse.   Anyway, after that first quarter of a mile of snow clearing, my inner thighs were screaming in agony. We ran/walked for 67 minutes before we finally finished.   It was one of the most exhausting things I have ever done.   Last summer  I was running my 5ks in well under 30 minutes and they were a cakewalk compared to today.

My knees are KILLING me right now.  I am never running on uneven ground like that again.  Still it was fun.   And I am glad we did it.....all the cars driving by on the highway must have thought we were COMPLETELY nutts.  There were no other footprints down at the track  and it looked like nobody else had been down there probably since the last football game back in early October.

Most hotels have oatmeal, bananas, apples and other fruits.  Lots of times there will be yogurt (although usually the full fat versions)  but still any of these options are better than muffins, or waffles/butter/syrup, sweetbreads, sugary cereals and bagels that are usually put out. Bagels arent too bad but best if there is a whole wheat one and also the hotel bagels are usually small so that is good. But still, if you have a bagel..then you start thinking about cream cheese, butter, and/or jelly.

If you go with oatmeal, which is an excellent  choice, make sure you get regular flavor and not one of the sugared up versions.  I was at a hotel this morning...had a packet of regular flavored oatmeal then mashed in a banana and packet of equal.  Yummy and so filling and thick, I almost couldnt finish it, lol.

Watch out for the oj and other juices.  Just make sure you only have one serving...its easy to fill up your glass (and keep going back for more since its free)  and end up drinking 3-4 servings of juice.

Good luck!  You can always take food with you or run to a local grocer!  (I need to take my own advice on that one, lol.)

Weight Loss Iam busing my butt for what Nov 26 2007

I have been busting my butt for the last two weeks and have only lost about a pound and a half....and I must tell you, I am quite happy with it.

The weight loss you are describing is a very safe, healthy amount to lose in that time frame.   Truly, I would say to keep doing what you are doing.

You will also probably get people on here saying that you arent eating ENOUGH!  Take that advice with a grain of salt.  If you are already small to begin with and have less than 15 lbs to lose then you are doing fine.  If you are larger boned/taller and have lots of weight to lose, then you may not be eating enough.  I will let someone else who is more knowledgeable give you the scoop on that though.

Good luck!

I am really thinking about going to 3 meals and a snack.   I have always bought into the 5-6 small meals a day thing, but I am always ravenous by the next meal, and I am never satisfied after eating a tiny meal.

and........If I just did 3 meals a day, I wouldn't have to constantly be thinking about my next meal either....which gets to be quite time consuming.

My guess is that is just interested and trying to start a conversation.  He may be a bit nervous and shy and may have a hard time figuring out what to talk about.  He is probably more upset with himself than you are with him, that he didnt figure out something better to talk about with you.  Cut the guy a break, k?

Thank you for that info Venix.  I am trying really hard to get away from processed and refined products. (one reason I am trying to get away from sugar)

I might try to make my own nut milks in the future, but since I am such a newbie to all this, I will check out what I can find at the store and then go from there.
The Lounge Dating a Mexican? Jun 30 2007

I think this thread is hilarious.  My father was a Mexican and my husband a Mexican.  They do like their fresh fruits and vegetables but everything is cooked in soooo much grease.  I really have never eaten any Mexican dish made by my family that wasn't just full of grease (and it is usually lard.)  In my family and my husbands family anyway,  red meat  is eaten almost every single day.   Its not considered a meal unless meat is part of it.  If you dont have meat on the table (especially when company comes over)  it would mean you were too poor to have it....or at least it would be looked upon that way.  I could go on and on about this...my husband would never eat any of the healthy stuff I try to cook for me and the kids, he insists on cooking it himself because to him it doesnt taste good unless there is plenty of grease.  And he refuses to drink milk (so does my father) and so do most of the Mexican relatives (meaning relatives that actually live in Mexico) that  I have.

And in the town where my dad comes from and the town where  my husband comes from, I can  honestly honestly say, that AT LEAST 85% of the women are VERY overweight, in fact it is considered a sign of being well off if the women in the family are heavier.  They always talked about how skinny me and my sisters were (and we werent, we were very very solid weights and not the least bit skinny) and they would talk about my mom behind her back saying she didnt feed us right.

Now this is just my experience, apparently, from all the other posts I am reading...this is not the norm.

I actually havent tried it yet, I am just trying to lower my sugar intake and my regular milk as like 12 grams of sugar.  So I thought I would try soy.      No, I did not know there was an unsweetened version or light versions.  I am headed to the grocery store today, and I guess I will just have to check the labels!  Thanks1

Hey everyone,  I am back!  Wow I have been doing horribly. Didnt want to admit it, but yikes.   After more than 6 weeks of being nearly perfectly good!   Well, you know I went and did that high activity job for 2 weeks so I upped my daily intake to 2000+ calories?...first few days I was so tired I only ate 1000 calories, but then I started eating more and more....and I was ok but now the job is over and I am still eating that much a day plus Friday Night and yesterday were complete and total binge days for me.  (I cant believe I have to start back over at day 1!!!! Grrrrr that makes me so mad!)

I am trying to get over the feeling that I have somehow completely ruined all the good progress I made in the last 6 weeks.   I need to get back on the wagon RIGHT NOW!!!!!!
