Young Calorie Counters Does anyone want tto start a group for college kids who have been overweight most of their lives? Dec 15 2008

Can I join too? I'm 21 and 5'5" and I weigh somewhere around 155lb I think but I can't be sure because I don't have a scale here. Basically I remember being a heffalump since I was about 11, which right now is not helped by my amazingly skinny and beautiful and utterly lovely housemates who don't seem to notice my actual size and think the slightest bit of extra fat is just disgusting and that size 10 is massive... I'm more like 14 (UK sizes). Whenever we dress up I end up feeling more like an animated flour sack than an actual person. I'm aiming to be about 135-140ish... so pretty much in the centre of the healthy weight section.

I like this post :)

Guys with beards are just awesome, especially if they have long hair too - the proper geeky metaller types! And guys who are comfortable with their body hair are great - I know a guy who actually plucks his eyebrows, I used to think he was attractive (before he plucked them) and now the fact I know he does that - it's basically just wrong.

Also accents can be seriously hot! Particularly Russian or UK regional! I can just listen to guys talk for ages if they have a great accent!

fantabulous! I get that problem too - in some ways I want to try running but there are people out there and they'd see me, so I just walk lots! Good luck staying on the wagon this time, I keep slipping off too - I go through phases though, some weeks it's easy and just feels right, others I get crazy cravings and stuff.

I want to buy new clothes... I haven't bought any in years (I'm 20 and still wearing things from when I was 14). It's not that I don't like clothes... it's just it seems a bit unfair on them to have to be put on me :)

well I have no idea what you have available near you but activities like dancing, cycling and ice skating are generally fun.

I'm giving up chocolate, crisps and biscuits this year... three things I didn't actually have in my house this time last year and was perfectly happy without... for some reason their presence seems to cause problems though.

I'm 20 and I get mistaken for being younger too. It only really annoys me if I forget to take my ID with me when I go out. I've been told to leave a few places before because of that.

phoenix121 - I know exactly what you mean with the guys who are friends thing... it's horrible isn't it? I always get really irrationally annoyed with them afterwards as well... if they try to talk to me I have to work so hard not to yell at them to get away from me and leave me alone. Plus there's the horrible horrible guilt...
Vegetarian What type of -tarian or -egan are you? Dec 04 2007

I guess I'm a term-time vegetarian... when I go home for the holidays I eat with my family, which means meat, although I'm normally sick of it after about a week. I always try to persuade them to let me do the cooking... then we can have lentils and kidney beans! Eating meat once or twice a week is more than enough. It's not actually eating an animal that I object to, just the conditions that they have to endure. I'm fine with being an omnivore, but I'd like to know that the animal had some standard of life first.

Last week I kept having really really bad chocolate cravings. We have shops just up the road so whenever it got really bad I went for a walk for about an hour coming back past the shops. Every time I took money and told myself that if I still really wanted chocolate by the time I got back to the shops I could go in and buy some and not feel guilty about it... weirdly enough I never did.

I'm from England too and just basically planning to really enjoy christmas! Big meals with family are fantastic... and just because there might be a lot of different things and several courses it doesn't mean you can't eat just a bit of each. Personally I'm just planning to relax and only eat when I'm hungry and until I'm full. I have actually really started noticing that when I eat and I'm not hungry I don't enjoy things nearly as much... so if I just focus on enjoying my food and listen to my body it should be really fun. :)
The Lounge worst insult you ever got because of your weight.... Nov 04 2007

Now people are just getting nasty... which seems terribly sad to me... maybe life isn't the utopia I wish it was. Two wrongs don't make a right. Two insults don't make the world a better place. Just because a man is homeless it doesn't give them the right to insult other people for no reason. Just because you are not it doesn't give you the right to judge them. Everyone has their story, everyone has reasons for doing things and emotions. If you forget that, in a way it gives people the right to forget that about you.

I am lucky. I have never received many insults about my appearance. I have been teased and mocked many times about other things, but rarely about my weight. Reading what everyone has gone through is so sad... it just seems such a shame that some people feel it is necessary to hurl insults rather than accepting people for what they are.
Motivation Is hunger really avoidable? Oct 23 2007

Personally I adore hunger!

Before I started controlling my own food properly I was hardly ever actually hungry. I used to eat whenever it was a "meal time" (and I was brought up with the "must clear your plate" mentality) and I'd snack between meals to eat what I really wanted to.

Now I actually get hungry! It is an absolutely wonderful feeling! To me, being able to prepare a meal while feeling hungry is amazing. Plus if I'm hungry when I start eating, I eat less than if I'm not. If I am not hungry and I have to eat a meal I spend the whole time ignoring what my body tells me and generally go back to my childhood setting of eating everything... if I'm hungry to start with then I actually think about how I feel while I eat - so I eat less! :)

Raz - I am still living with the huge baggy clothes thing... even in the middle of summer I find it so hard to actually take my hoodie off because then people might actually see what I look like!

I guess I'm actually very lucky with my friends... lots of them are really really skinny but they've never called me fat... I normally seem to have the opposite problem - when I go shopping with one of them she always tries to convince me to try things on that would fit her and I have to point out that I should probably be looking at a slightly larger size...

Heya... sounds like you're having a fairly bad time. I do the same thing when I'm depressed, really trying to get over it. One question - do you like tea? It's like a warm hug!!! And on that note are there people around that you can go and demand hugs from when you feel bad? I honestly find that really helps... and I know this suggstion might sound a bit strange, but have you tried reading poetry, or maybe writing it yourself - sometimes just trying to find the right words to express your emotions can help to pacify them... sorry if this is a bit rambling and unhelpful, but really good luck and I hope it goes ok.

OMG!!! Gamers yay!!! I don't play WOW... know loadsa people who do though! I only do a bit of tabletop, more of a LARPer really - lots of actually running around waving pretty pieces of plastic!!! I completely love this analogy, it's fantastic (and also sort of true for larpers - the faster I can run, the faster my character can!)
