I'm with you, VG...take 'em where you can get 'em! Today is a good day for me, too. It's going to be long, but so far, so good...things are flowing smoothly. Foxy...fingers crossed for you. I have no idea what my levels are/were when I tested, but they were strong enough to make 2 poas + and 1 blood test +. I think I'm finally leveling off or that my body is starting to get used to the different hormones....my tummy is settling down a bit, and I can eat more normally again. The acne is still an issue...and there is nothing I can do about it! Had a pretty good weekend...got to go to the barn and ride some on Saturday, did some light cleaning and errand running on Sunday, chatted with one of my bf's and still had time to be a couch potato! The gym has been lacking for me lately....and I don't plan on making it this week (considering I'm heading to Florida on Wednesday morning and I've got to pack and get a bunch of other stuff done between now and then!). Oh well...there's always next week, right! Have a good Monday guys! |

Hi, Colleen. This is a pretty awesome group...I hope you like it as much as I do! We're all trying to keep things toned and in balance with our lives...it's not easy, but we try! Just so you know...the dr's appointment went well. Had to pee in a cup and give them some blood for testing. We spent most of the time, though, talking to a nurse person about family histories and what I should and should not do/eat. It answered lots of my questions and now we've got more decisions to make. I go back again in about a month.

Whoo Hoo! Happy dance! I called the dr's office back and the receptionist got my appointment rescheduled again! I got an 8:45am appointment on Thursday! I don't have to take a personal day! I love it when stuff works! Today's been a good day. Walked for 20 minutes at the gym last night and hopefully I'll be able to go again today. I've got enough food with me today to keep the tummy happy...it will all depend on the energy level, now! Hope you guys are doing well! |

No idea, vg. I've never actively tried to include things in my diet. I always figured I needed to exclude things! (like too many calories or fat!) I guess I'll find out what I'm missing when I finally get to go to the dr....they've moved my appointment and I'm not happy about it. It'd be one thing if I worked near the dr's office, but...I'm an hour away! It's not like I can go home and come back in the middle of the day...that's a 3 hour chunk of time plus the appointment!!! Grrr. So, now it looks like I might have to take a personal day...it'd be more driving than working!

Hi ladies! Thanks for the link, Foxy. I'll take a look at it when there aren't so many wandering eyes around the lab! I've found jerkey...it was ok yesterday, but I've not tried it again today. Some things are a moment to moment like for me! I did pick up some protein plus power bars - very useful...portable and packed with protein and other nutritious things. I am in total agreement with you guys - I find myself eating (well...before anyway) the same things over and over again. It's a little better for me b/c dh tends to like different foods than I grew up with and tend to go for, so we do get some variety that way. Foxy...I LOVE painting! I've oil painted since I was 9 years old! I typically paint from photographs - the light doesn't change on you once it's captured in a picture. Real life is trickier to paint from, I think. It's great once you get the hang of it. I find it helps me to refocus my mind and relax. I often will turn on the classical music and sip wine or tea while I paint. (I've not picked up a brush since we moved from MS, b/c I have my scrapbook taking up my painting table! DH wants a painting to go over the bed, though...so I'll have to get inspried and get that scrapbook done (it's only been 4.5 years since the wedding...sheish!) and pick a picture!) LOL on the alcohol, too...After about 2 glasses of wine, I'm warm and sleepy. After not drinking for 9+ months, I'm sure that will decrease to about 1/2 a glass! I used to be able to put way more than that away in an evening! |

forgot to ask...anyone know of a good source of protein (other than a spoonful of peanut butter) that would be a good before bed snack? I've been eating hard boiled eggs at breakfast, but would like other evening snacks to try since the PB doesn't always sit very well. |

Racket ball and fast don't go together in my book...heck I think I spent more time running around trying to pick up the ball after I missed it than actually playing the game! Terribly funny and still good exercise! I've not heard of an In&Out. Probably yummy, though! I had a BigMac and fries the other day, and a 10 piece chicken nugget yesterday (I went home early b/c I felt so terrible). It's really bad...and super bad for me, but it stays down and I feel pretty steady after I eat it. Yesterday was terrible - probably the worst day yet. Today, however, is MUCH better. I've only had a few hints of nausea today...been snacking on sourdough pretzels and gingersnaps. Protein before bed, protein at breakfast, ginger ale, and eating constantly...whether I'm hungry or not. That's been about it for me. Not sure what I'll do for dinner tonight...haven't given it much thought....might take a spin through town to see what strikes my fancy. I'm going to see if I can find some ginger candies...the ginger seems to be the only thing that settles the tummy pretty quickly and reliably. Yay for Wednesday being nearly over! Time to go to the gym....gonna go walk for a bit. Have a good evening everybody! |

Good for you, Foxy! I love racketball (even though I pretty much suck at it!). Good to know about Men Who Stare at Goats - I wondered about that. I've not intentionally increased calories, I'm just eating what smells, looks and sounds good...really is more I eat what I can. Tonight I'm going to get a Big Mac on my way home...been craving one for 2 weeks, now. It's a strange thing, but hey...whatever...I'm pg, right?! I am hoping/figuring on returning to healthy eating when I can stomach things again. My snacks have been fresh fruit and veggies for the most part...so it's not too terrible. :) |

Had a great weekend. It's always a good visit with Mom! We did end up telling my mom on Saturday night (she's really excited for us), but decided to tell dh's parents next weekend when we're there. They were still not keen on driving to meet us on Sunday. Sounds like you had a pretty good weekend, yourself, VG! I love times when I can veg with dh. What did you see at the theater on Sunday? There are a few out that I'd like to see, but I'm far more inclined to wait until I can rent them. (Although, I am hoping I'll get to go see New Moon when it comes out on Nov 20th!) I'd be super careful with the tendonitis - try more reps with less weight. I'm not an expert or anything, but that usually helps me with my achy spots. Just don't over do it and cause yourself to have to be treated by a dr for something more serious. |

Just feeling like it. Some days/moments are better than others. I've been really close a couple times today, but so far so good. As for the energy...that comes and goes too. I'm certainly dragging butt today! Walked/jogged with my gym buddy last night through her neighborhood. I'm glad I did it, but I think I over did it a bit. It was only ~3 miles, but I'm worn out today. I hope everyone has a great weekend. I'll fill you in on the news breaking (fingers crossed that all parties cooperate this weekend!) to the parents. |

Hopefully you can find time to relax some this weekend, VG. I totally understand about all the running around and such - after a while you need a break! Sounds like you've been doing well with food and exercise, though! Feel better soon, Foxy! I hate being sick. I'm crossing my fingers that I don't catch anything while pg...I never liked taking anything before, and now that I'm not 100% sound with the nausea and sleepiness and all, I don't know what any type of decongestants would do (at least the ones I would be allowed to take). Welcome nboren! This is a great group to join! We're all trying to maintain/loose and still be able to live, so support is important! Today is better than yesterday, that's for sure. I still have moments where I'm considering running towards the bathroom, but so far so good. I hit the gym last night for body pump and went through the motions. Tonight, hopefully, I'll go running with my gym buddy (she needs to take her dog for a jog so she won't be at the gym). Then, tomorrow, it's off to Mom's for the weekend! |

Nope and nope...unfortunately. I'm in a lab, so I have a desk space and bench space, but nothing private.
VG, sounds like you've been doing pretty well, if you ask me. Good luck with your will power and the movie! It's tough to resist those consessions! I will admit that the popcorn never tastes as good as it smells. Good idea to get candy you don't like for Trick-or-treators. My problem is that I'm not that picky...eventually, I get desperate enough and eat it anyway! I'm fortunate though...no trick-or-treators. My neighbors are a couple of cow pastures and a hay field! I'm not a big Halloween person anyway, so it's no biggie. Happy Wednesday everyone!

I hate when I do that! Did everyone have a good weekend??? I had a great weekend with dh. We worked Friday evening and Saturday (after we ran errands in the morning) and I was a total sloth on Sunday. It was great. I wasn't horrible food-wise, but I wasn't great, either. I know I went overboard on Saturday night, but it was our first date night in a long time and dh took me to dinner at a nice little Italian place. I just had to have a piece of the pumpkin cheesecake they had for dessert! I'm ready to go home and take a nap, today. There is a big piece of me that wishes I lived closer to work so I could go home for lunch and actually nap in the middle of the day. I've been getting So tired! |

Thanks for the well wishes, ladies! I'd love to be screaming from the rooftops, but .... patience is a virtue, right??? I've been a slacker at the gym this week (did manage 3x last week)... I went last night and spent about an hour on the elliptical, but I didn't go fast or with much resistance. May or may not go back tonight - might just go home and finish cleaning out the attic instead so we can take all the junk to the dump tomorrow. Remember to give yourselves a break at ttom - you'll be back on track next week. Enjoy your weekends and I'm with Foxy, VG - go enjoy a cocktail and the concert! |

You go, VG!!! Inspiration is so hard to find sometimes. I've not been all that good lately about what I'm eating. I am still trying to keep the calories and portions down, but it's tricky. I was pretty active all weekend - Saturday we ran errands (and I went on a couple calls with DH), and Sunday I cleaned the house...top to bottom! So, at least I kept moving. Dinner tonight, I think is going to be BLTs (until we can use up the last of our tomatoes - it is a sad time of year when the fresh tomatoes are gone!) I've got a dr appointment for Wednesday...I'll fill y'all in on the results once I get them.... fingers crossed! Hope everyone had a good weekend. |

VG, I make it a rule not to weigh over the holidays. It's not an easy time for me anyway, and if I saw the numbers go up on the scale I know I'd be heading downward quickly! You'll get it back off - just get back on the healthy eating habits! Foxy - I struggle with heart burn rather frequently. Actually, that's how I know when I'm super stressed - it all goes to my stomach and WHAM - heartburn. When I'm not stressed, eating ice cream (or sugar) and then lying down will do it every time. I use Mylanta, Tums, or Pepto depending on how I'm feeling. The Tums aren't too bad b/c they can also be taken as a calcium supplement, so I don't worry about them too much. The non-medical treatment I use is to remain vertical - either standing or sitting, and focusing on my breathing (think Yoga or meditation breathing). This doesn't hurt anything and if it is mild indegestion then it will often help faster than treating with otc meds. I started having symptoms of an ulcer and used the Pepcid OTC and that helped by the end of the 2 week treatment...not a fast remedie though. No gym for me this week - Walmart monday for groceries, house hunting Tuesday (and again today) and a departmental retreat yesterday. AF is supposed to be arriving next week (unless DH and I actually timed things right and our systems are working...this is the first month where I felt like I actually ov and we actually "practiced" at the right times), so I really should work at getting to the gym next week! Will be visiting my grandmother this weekend...am looking forward to the time with Mom and family. Have a good one guys!

Foxy, I imagine after the ordeal you've been through, your body is still trying to get back on an even keel hormonally. I have several friends who's hormones have caused wieght variations. Give yourself time to recover and hopefully it will go back down. At least you had a good weekend! |

Ok....I'm eating lunch reading this! ICK!!! LOL! I've always wondered how I would handle all the snot, etc. when I ended up with kids - sometimes my own grosses me out! Welcome, monsterswan! vg and foxy offer good suggestions and make good points. And, if you've lost 5lbs in the 1st 2 weeks, then you're right on track! Healthy weight loss is 1-2lbs per week...anything more than that is probably water weight and will just jump right back on. Definitely use protein to your advantage and make sure you eat enough to keep from "starving". When I first started, I fluctuated my daily calorie intake between 900 and 1300 calories per day which is a little low, but I was not very active, either. I also would have days where I would get closer to 1400 or 1500 calories, too. They were just not very frequent. Definitely use CC to your advantage and keep the food log - VERY helpful and keeps you accountable for what you actually eat! I thought I was eating well until I started using that tool! Make it a lifestyle change you can live with! I actually got to the gym last night (not for both body pump and kick boxing, but I did 15-20 min on the treadmill instead of body pump). It was a great class and I'm just sore enough today to notice my body. I love this feeling! heading to the gym again tonight (hopefully my gym buddy will be there too...poor girl is having a rough go of things right now between school and work - she could use the pick-me-up!) Have a great day, ladies! Tomorrow's Friday! :) |

Had a good workout last night - 17 minutes on the stepper and 42 on the treadmill, mostly running. Tonight, is body pump and kick boxing. I'm looking forward to making it to both classes for the first time in several weeks. VG - get plenty of sleep and don't stress yourself too much! The nasties are going around all over the place. I got my flu shot simply b/c although I'm in the research part, it is still a hospital and I ride the bus with all kinds of docs and nurses. (Well, that and they will require anyone who hasn't gotten their flu shot to wear a mask in certain places w/in the hospital...like the cafeteria, I'm sure.) Enjoy the gym, Foxy. I'm sure you'll be glad to get back into a moving routine. I know I always feel better when that is part of my weeks. It help keep the downward spiral from going too far down! Stay healthy, ladies! No germies here! |

Oh, Foxy. I'm SO sorry. I know you've been trying hard to get pg and that this meant a whole lot to you. I've never personally been through what you have, but I have 2 friends who have lost theirs for one reason or another and have tried to share how horrible it was. Please do not hesitate to lean on me (and I'm sure the others here) if you need a shoulder. Welcome, MM. Your goal is ambicous but certainly doable. This group offers some great support! Hope you find it (and cc) useful and helpful! Good luck! Had an easy day at work today...heading to the gym this evening (and tomorrow)...have been feeling super fat and lazy...need to motivate! |

Don't stress vg. Taking a weekend and being lazy every now and again is not a bad thing. I bet you just needed some down time to re-energize. I have lots of days/weekends like that! I like to think of them as "couch" therapy! ;) My weekend was very horsey. I've spent some time writing a bit of a novel in my journal, so if you want to read all the gory details, you can check that out - I won't belabor you will all of them here! The synopsis...I got to ride Saturday and Sunday much of both days. Those are great days, IMO. The weather was beautiful and I couldn't have asked for anything more. Got good news at work today, and the boss was happy with me...so today has been a good day, too. I'm hoping to carry this good momentum into the rest of my week. DH has a funeral to go to tomorrow, so he'll be heading to his parent's tonight...depending on when he leaves, will dictate if I go to the gym or just straight home to see him off. I might try to be motivated even if I do go home and maybe go for a run. (I skipped Friday to see him off and didn't run - although my hips were bothering me from kickboxing, so it wasn't all bad that I didn't.) Hope you all had a good weekend and a good Monday. |

No freezing, yet...but it's getting there! The chill in the morning air has made it especially difficult to get out from under my nice warm blankets in the mornings! Looks like DH will be at his parent's this weekend for multiple reasons and then will be heading back that direction Monday night for his 2nd cousin's funeral. going to be a long week, next week - I can see it coming. I'll be spending the weekend on a horse again! (I'm looking forward to it!) I do have a concern to share.... I have a colleague at work who I found out this morning is married (for ~20 years) to a guy who has hit her. She is feeling trapped. She doesn't want a divorce, but she doesn't want to be unhappy anymore. She's not suicidal, but I think she needs to change her situation. I'm trying to be helpful, but I'm not sure what else to do other than to talk to her, listen to her and suggest she see a counselor. Any suggestions? |

Awesome, VG! sounds like you had a productive evening! I'm jealous that you can hit the gym at lunch...I don't even really get a lunch hour (we usually have seminars and such during that time) and my gym is close to home not work (I commute an hour). Although, now that I think about it...I sweat...lots...probably not a good way to go back to work in the afternoon. :) |

Good weekend...not entirely what I expected... Date night turned out to be dh falling asleep on the couch, but it was fine. We got to hang out and watch some tv together. Saturday, I spent the whole day at the barn - got to do lots of riding and even got to do a little cutting! I was totally embarrassed (and a little ashamed) at how poorly I rode...my MS riding "instructor" would have given me a severe talking to! I nearly came off twice. Fortunately, the horse was super patient with me. I still had an absolute blast and can't wait to do it again! Maybe next time I'll be able to remember some of my teachings and keep my butt in the saddle! Sunday was a bit rough..dh and I were kinda at each other...we're both stressed about not being able to afford to buy a house. We can't seem to find anything we like in our price range. The day ended great...we had lots of time together and actually chatted a bit and enjoyed each other's company. VG, I can't believe you said you'd be better off staying at work?!?! :) I can't wait for the work days to end so I can go home...I'd much rather deal with the grocery store or cleaning than work! ;) Gym for me tonight. Hope the weeks are going well for you guys! |

Welcome, Lawschoolgirl! We're a group of 20+ somethings (ok...so I'm a 30 something now, technically, but who really counts after 29 anyway?!) who are trying to be healthy and loose a lb or two while still managing to enjoy life. It is a good group of people with lots of support and good will! Hope you enjoy cc! Dh and I are going to have a date night tonight! I'm really looking forward to it. It was all his idea this time, so I'm a bit excited to hear what he has in mind. Tomorrow, he's helping his colleague move and I'm going to the barn. Sunday, I get to play with horses again, so I'm totally psyched for the weekend. Maybe I'll even get to do some house cleaning while I'm at it...we'll see! Just wanted to wish everyone a happy Friday and a good weekend! |

Hi ladies! Sorry it's been so long - been super busy at work and I haven't had time to get on line (I do stuff at work b/c I don't have internet at home). Felt better Thursday (3 days of nausea...ick) and Friday...had a little more GI issue on Saturday, but seem to be back together just in time for AF to show up this morning. Fun times, right? Hopefully going to go home and have a BIG glass of wine and sit on the couch with the heating pad, a blanket, a movie and maybe my eucalyptis bean spa thingy right after our lab meeting. CONGRATS, Foxy!!!! Fingers crossed for you, definitely!!!! Please keep us informed as to how things go! I (certainly) want to know what I can be expecting if I'm lucky enough to get pg. Dh was excited at the posibility that we might be (due to the unexplained nausea last week) regardless of the fact that it was way too soon to have that symptom. We are a touch disappointed, but since it's only month 2 of off bc, we can't be too worried about things yet. Maybe next month... One of my friends did mention to me that the nausea may have been my body's reaction to the hormones related to ovulation (since technically I've not done that for 10+ years)...anyone experience that? Not going to have lots of free time to post, so if I come and go, please dont' worry too much. I'll be super busy at work trying to finally get the ball rolling on my big project...looks like I've overcome 1 hurdle and am ready to start the new protocol and work on hurdle #2! I'm really excited to finally start getting something going after another year of trouble shooting. At least I can trouble shoot something I've never done before instead of fixong problems I should have known how to fix. I think the cheese making thing is neat, Goldie. I'm not sure I'd have the patience to wait the days/weeks/months it might take to let it sit and mix when I'm supposed to....I'm more of an instant gratification type of person when it comes to food! (yeast breads take too long for me!) |

Wow! You guys are so inspiring! Had a wonderful trip (if you want to read all about it, you can check out my journal). It was super nice to be out of town and away from anything remotely normal. B/c I don't have international minutes, I couldln't even call dh (which was partly sad...but partly really good). It was a total escape from reality. We got back last week, but I just haven't been able to catch up and post here. As a matter of fact, I'm still lagging behind a bit, but at least I've caught up on some of the important things...you know...like laundry! Yesterday and today, I've been feeling sick to my stomach for some unknown reason. There is a remote possibility I could be pg, but this "symptom" doesn't usually show up that fast...it's only been a week. It's more likely some strange bug or just change in the weather or something. I guess I'll know if it doesn't go away and other "symptoms" start showing up. I'm supposed to go to the gym tonight, but we'll have to see. It seems the more I move the more nauseated I tend to get. Anyway, I'm sure you guys dont' want to hear about my tummy troubles. Not been super good or bad in either the eating or exercising department. Did go 2x last week (albeit for about 1/2 of my normal routine) to the gym. Going to try to do better each day...one at a time.
