Health & Support Do you think it is possible to love yourself without being skinny? Dec 03 2008

I am happiest when I am not thinking about my body. when I am not thinking about whether I am fat or thin. when I am not thinking about having to gain weight or needing to lose weight. I am happiest when I realize, it doesn't matter at all.

thank God there's more to life than what size you are (or what size you aren't, for that matter).

I will admit, I often fool myself into thinking I was happiest when I was thinnest. then I remember the big picture. sobbing on the bathroom floor. not going out because I felt fat in my clothes that day. not being able to trust myself alone in the kitchen. etc.

the slight rush of seeing the numbers on the scale go down was not worth any of that. I wasn't happy. I was miserable. I hated myself so badly.

here I am now, sizes bigger and more or less free. I can think about life again. I'm happier. there is still the struggle of looking in the mirror and telling myself I'm fat... then I say, "It doesn't matter." I never thought I could say that. I never thought I could weigh over 80 pounds and be able to smile at the mirror.

sorry for the rambling. here's  the breakdown: in my opinion, happiness and self-love should have nothing to do with what size you are.

Odwalla bars are delicious, Berries GOmega is my favorite.

Larabars are even more amazing, but more pricey too. they're completely vegan and unprocessed, and they're sooo yummy.

I agree with what everyone else is saying, but I'd also get him to drink Ensure (or better yet, Ensure Plus-- 350 cals in 8 oz). it's nutritious and it'll help out, but he may need to drink a couple a day.

Recipes What to put peanut butter on? Jul 16 2007

kmitch, when you said you put peanut butter on Whoppers, the first time I read it I was thinking about the burger at Burger King. Took me having to re-read it to realize you meant the candy (or at least I hope you do, haha).

Peanut butter is also amazing on Oreos.

Today I experimented with the peanut butter/tortilla idea somebody posted. I took a flour tortilla, spread it with peanut butter, then some banana sliced, and folded it over. Then I spread the outside with tiny bit of butter and sprinkled it with sugar (you could use cinnamon sugar if you like), and cooked it on a greased skillet. I didn't eat it, really, I only took a bite and gave the rest to my younger brother. It was quite good but I think I would use strawberry freezer jam in place of the bananas next time. Once again, not healthy, but there aren't many healthy things you can do with peanut butter.

This isn't healthy but MARSHMALLOWS! Just take a marshmallow and dip it in peanut butter. Oh my goodness, I could a whole bag of marshmallows that way.

It's also good on top of peanut butter chocolate chunk rice cakes, or caramel apple rice cakes. Pretty much any rice cake, really.

My mom makes these amazing peanut butter/chocolate/oat no-bake cookies. They're kind of Reese's Cup-esque, and insanely addicting.

Haha, I figured. Sweet grits is more of a north thing, I live in South Carolina and we it it savory (sweet is unheard of). Where I work they make loaded grits with sausage, sauteed (sp?) onions and peppers, cheese, and butter. It smells wonderful but it's probably not good for the health-conscious.

Every now and then I like a slice of cheddar cheese on my plate underneath my grits.

And of course, bacon or sausage crumbled up in grits is good.

Salt and pepper, and maybe butter if you want it. That's how I always eat it, I've never actually had it with sugar. Are you from the north?

Like claire said, use applesauce. The boxes usually have a recipe for low fat brownies on them, using applesauce and stuff. I was just looking at a mix today, and the low fat recipe comes out to 130 calories a serving instead of 180. I think the mix I was looking at was Betty Crocker.

Good luck, it sounds wonderful.

When I make iced coffee all I do is take cooled coffee, put it in a glass, add a teaspoon of caramel hazlenut creamer and add a lot of ice or frozen coffee cubes. Add sweetner if you like, I don't usually as the creamer adds a sweetness on its own. It only comes out to about 15ish calories. I heart iced coffee.

I'm not sure how it is calorie-wise but I make a mean salsa. It's sooo easy.

What you need is:

a can of diced tomatoes

a can of diced tomatoes with green chiles

cayanne pepper

garlic salt

cilantro (if you want)

lime (if you want, this makes it runnier.)

and a food processor.

When I make it I use the whole can of diced tomatoes, a few tablespoons of the tomatoes and chiles, about teaspoon and a half of garlic salt, a tablespoon of lime, and a quarter of a teaspoon of cayanne pepper. You can adjust all of the stuff to taste. The heat comes from the tomatoes with chiles and the cayanne pepper. Once you've got your stuff in you just blend it together. It tastes like the restaurant stuff.

I think what you need to do is listen to your belly. If it's hungry, go get something to eat. Something that sounds good, no matter how many calories it has. Ignore the nutrition facts and all that jazz. And when you're full, stop eating. Eat balanced meals and get your nutrition and all that stuff, and I think it will stop being so prominent in your mind. Depending on how much you're restricting, it's going to be pretty hard.

I saw a documentary once on eating disorders, and how the less you eat the more you think about food. They did a study with a bunch of men, and cut their meals in half. After they had lost about a third of their orignal weight, they started to act like people with eating disorders. They were obsessed with any mention of food, even in a different context (like "food for thought"). So that's why I say that.

Of course, I don't really know how good my advice is since I don't have any firsthand experience with eating disorders or anything. So I can be ignored. >_>

Well, I used a mix because we wanted something really quick for a mid-afternoon snack. So the answer why use a mix is: pure laziness. We make pretty much everything from scratch but angel food cake mix is pretty good stuff, and easy as crud.

But you could use either, it's just the concept I wanted to get across.

I'm like that as well but I thought it was normal. It pretty much sucks though. I'd love to hear any remedies if anyone has them.
