Welcome vega, always nice to have new people on!

mrsdagle I have been unable to complete my full 3 miles either--sometimes it's because I'm too wiped out or because I'm running with others who just want to do the 2 miles. I think it's because of this sporadic running that I've not been able to progress to week 3 (3run/2walk).

Yesterday, however, I did do 3 miles and it took me like 45 minutes. I was tired by the end, but I pushed myself to do my last but of running in 3 minutes instead of 2 minutes. hard but I did it! So now I have to keep pushing that extra minute in, and I guess I'll be at week 3!

the funny thing is this morning I biked to work (i live a lil over 2 miles away from where I work) and it was killing me! A guy on his bike lugginga kiddie cart and a dog was going faster than me! Darn those road bikes! the thin tires offer so much speed!!

Sigh... good luck to you all! Hey punky you still out there?

Hey all

So on Tuesday I did my three miles and it felt delicious (albeit it took me like 50 minutes). YEsterday I did 1 mile to warm up for weights and it felt horrible. Geez...

So yesterday was core, arms and some legs. Mostly it was core though. And this time last year I was much stronger--I can't even do standing planks (when you lay face down on the floor and hold yourself up by your elbows, entire body lifted off the ground). Today I will probably try to get in a 3 mile and I'm going to try those still plank exercises again.

Btw, I still on the treadmill at my gym and when I do I watch Work Out or Top Chef and find it very satisfying!

Yoda is a great idea to go with running though--I love stretching and integrative strength exercises. I'm goign to hunt for yoga tapes now...

Best to you all!

yoon girl thats how I feel on my good days, trust that I still have my bad ones! It's hard in this world to make your image of yourself be stronger than the images that others/media/world project onto you. But if we keep on encouraging each other in the positive way, we'll learn to normalize that language within ourselves. That's my goal anyway!

So go on witcha bad selves!!!

Hi guys,

It really hurts me to read when young growing women refer to themselves or parts of themselves as "disgusting" etc. etc. I know that sometimes we exagerrate but really the words we use really hurt us in the long run. I was looking at a picture of myself the other day and my immediate response was, "Oh my god I'm so fat, my ass is so wide" and my partner no the other hand was like "no way you looked good in those pictures"(ps i'm 5'4'' at 160 trying to get to a toner, healthier me in the 140s/150s). Didn't really matter what he says tho, I still see myself as a  way, label myself that way, and feel worse for it.

Everyday I remind myself to love my body the way it is, and to work on it like a neverending project. Eating healthy, exercising and all that jazz is going to make me a better person as a whole. I try everyday to stop attaching negative terms to myself. And really, I think we'd all be better off if we did that.

oh and to read more on my issues with my thighs see my post on Amazon thighs

Girl I'm here, just been gone over the weekend!

So last weekend, I went to another state park (I'm loving exploring this country's national treasures--so beautiful and for free!!) and walked for about 2-3 hours around and up and down hills, etc. We had to take it slow because we were going with people who had bad, bad knees but it was fun, refreshing and beautiful!

Last week was totally terrible, so busy I had no time to run. But this week I've been trying to conquer that--and today I went for my full run/walk and it was TOTALLY doable at 3/2s so I'm going to bump it to 2/3s in my next run. It took me a while though--almost 50 minutes with my cool downs and everything.

My goal this week is to run 3xs. I did one today, I will try to do one Thurs and then one on Saturday. I am also planning to go dancing this Thurs night and get my salsa on so that will be a nice boost! I just love that the 3/2s were a breeze though--accomplishment feels grand!

punky--I will try trails DEFINITELY. It's much better for our joints! Plus now that I'm doing these parks, I'd like to try running along some of the trails! how awesome would that be?

Also, I hope you'll survive these next 25 months too! What is going on with everyone else?

punky Indeed that sounds pretty intense. I wouldn't beat yourself up either, if you want, you can set different goals for different parts of your life--if you're too busy, you can readjust your gaols. When I get too busy to not eat right or exercise, that in and of itself makes me feel pretty gross.

Sometime life doesn't permit, but I try to not let my days go by without at least an hour of me time. I hope you make it through strong!

As for me, I'm being sloppy this week and its wednesday and still haven't done anything. I hope to get a run in tomorrow morning. We'll see as Thursdays I work over 14 hours...

Hi guys,

so this thing about shin splints--that's what put me out of commission the first round of running--I got them so bad that I would go for runs and they would just hurt hurt hurt and I had to stop. So what do we have to do? I don't understand how calf stretches help shin splints...aren't those the ones where your shin (the  bone area below your knee) hurts? **confused** Any way I can avoid those I will cuz I don't want to be deterred from the 7minutes running and onward again!

woot woot! I will not begin stretching after running...I don't know whats up with me, sometimes I just slow at a walk and then go into weights without stretching....bad bad bad...

Sealed WOOOOOOOOO!!! I ran my 3 miles yesterday and granted I only did 2.7 (time constraint) the 3/2s were totally doable. After I ran my first 2 min, I was like--wow, that was nothing! So yay! Progress!! I've been eating pretty decent too, watching the cookie-intake (darn those cookies! and my roommate makes them ALL THE TIME!)

So i'm going to take today off and be back at it Wednesday.

punky never fear! CC is here! We'll help you keep on track as best we can , esp when life just seems to sweep sweep sweep you away!

Wow--I missed alot! Yay i'm so glad that the thread is getting more hits!!

Congrats mrsdagle on your week2 accomplishments! going back to one of your last comments--you're totally right! the "I can't run" mentality was drilled into me back in middleschool when I was expected to just up and run 1 mile at gym rather than build my ability to get there and pass it! No wonder I always though gym sucked!!! So LearntoRun was great for me because I realized I CAN do it! It's great!!

heatherx those times are seriously impressive! I swear, I did a 2.7 mile run the other day and it took me like 44 minutes...how poopy is that!

Thanks for your cheering Punky. when you are running now are you going full 14-18 minutes of running?

About running partners--because I'm at a starting point I feel too self conscious about how slow I go and how low my endurance is to try to run with someone else. Running partners are good though because you keep each other up. Once though I ran with my roommate (this is around when my endurance was about 5 minutes of running) and literally he was running ahead of me, BACKWARDS. granted he was cheering me on, but darnit---backwards?? lol its funny.

So last weekend, no running but I did take a 3 hour hike up and down a pretty steepish hill/mountain(?) so that was awesome--I'll count that as an exercise day! So that means last week I got in 3 days of exercise! GOAL accomplished!! To motivate myself I do things like put stars on my calenders and then highlight it... this is week 3 back on a more conscious effort to exercise!

Today I plan to do another 3 miles hopefully with some weights too. I'm going to push to do my week 2 today--WOOT WOOT!

onward and upward!! Good luck all!

oops i just did that wrong--sorry about that! I'm now 162 and have decided to start exercising again. Last year I decided to make the change and started at about 162 and went down to about 155 before coming back up now to 162. I'd like to fit into my jeans again (I wear them all unbuttoned) and I'd like to get to 144. I'm 5'4'' too! So i'll join here with you! GOOD LUCK!!!

Original Post by twocutekids:

I didn't see a 160's club so I decided to start one. I'm in need of some motivation to keep the weight loss going!

I lost 30 pounds last fall but I've been completely slacking the past few months and ended up gaining a few pounds back.

I NEED to keep losing!

I weighed in at 168 this morning. My first goal is to get to 150. I'm 5'4" and I'd like to ultimately get to 130-135lbs.

Anyone else want to join me in the 160's club? (hopefully not for too long!) :)

I've recently started going back on CC and I remembered I posted this a year ago. I read it over and it made me feel good (again) and since I'm still proud of my Amazon legs--and have a new partner that appreciates my figure as well!!!--I thought I'd bump it back up.

Hello all,

so I'm back. Last tuesday I tried to start at the beginning and ran about 1.5 miles but it was a mixture of not having enough time and wanting to do weights so not wanting to tire myslef so I just stopped after that. I was surprised that the 1 minute. I can do the three min walk and 2 min job but i find i don't have the endurance yet to go all the way. Plus running three miles takes me up to 45 minutes... I find I don't have time for that and other exercises! So then I feel like not running as much, but then that's inhibiting my endurance ability....Ahhhh!

So today I have about 2 hours and I'm going to do a full 45 minutes. When I did this last time I usually started slower and then into it I would bump up the time I ran and then lower it as I got more tired.

Welcome heather! I'm glad you're starting--like punky said, you should totaly do what feels right to you! Punky I am ever impressed at your abilities! Last time I tried the program I only got up to 7minutes of running but not consecutive. SO in one run I'd do 3 min/5/7/5/3 or something you know? Sigh, I hope I can build up my endurance...

Happy running to you all!

Pooped out!! Sorry about that punky. Yea I think I can't run mornings because my body has nothing in it either--it's really always hard for me to get going...

So today I did only 2 miles, walking 3, running 1 and then towards the end bumping it to 2 minutes of running. It took me forever--man I'm out of shape! But it felt pretty good. I think for me now it's allotting enough time to work-out... Any tips?

I hope everyone else's run went well! I will try again on Friday morning (late morning!)

Hi Everyone! Nice to see you again punky and night! Hi to all the new people!

So to reintroduce myself--I was on this a year ago and stopped at 7miles because of shin splints and running 5-6 times a week. Has anyone here done Couch to 5k? Do they feel like it's different from this thread's way of doing this?

lovenaomi--i second punky. I remember last Spring when I did this I combined it with a pretty ehalthy change of eating habits. That is: breakfast every morning, lots of fruit and veggies, and eating good size portions. I used CC to help with portions and stuff. By month 2 of running (cuz I took longer to do the weeks) I was feeling awesome! And looking it too. I don't think I lost that much weight (mabye like 5 pounds?) But the running and the eating right just really thinned out my body so that I was able to tie that belt one to two notches tighter! Sigh...the good days. Now all my pants are tight again--but I know I'm not eating right and defnitely not exercising enough. Which is why this thread needs to live!!!

So I've been trying to revive this thread for months now, and I go on runs and sometimes I can do three miles at the 3/2 pace (3 min walking and 2 min running) but i'm floored when I'm done...

So I'm starting all over again! I'm going on my 1st run today (starting anew)--wish me luck!

Hi, I'll post with you

So this week I want to:

1) start the cuoch to 5 k thing. So i'm supposed to run M/W/F. I already missed this morning's run (too sleepy) so I'm going to try tonight to do it after work.

2) eat less sweets!! They kill me!

Hi guys

I want to start this too--I did the LEARN TO RUN thread and was up to 5minutes to seven minutes of running full-out but was doing it so much that I had shin splints and that put me out of business of a long time. Then I was jsut too busy!

But yep I'm starting it tomorrow! Goodlucl

Hi Lily! Agreed--let's resurrect this link? I'm going to try to post every run I do--and will probably only succeed 1/3 of the time!

I've been getting over a cold recently, so my last two runs (last Friday, and today, Monday) have been slow coming. I only did 1.5 walking and running at 3/2 (respectively), but today I bumped it up to 2.3 miles. I felt great doing it today, but then I got nausous and had to stop.

In any case, I'm feeling pretty strong, and will do my full three either tomorrow or Wednesday. I'm having a problem having any energy after my runs to do any weights--I think I may have to do separate days for weights but I suck at motivating myself. I think the adrenaline from running keeps me going, but weights? So damn boring...

anyway, I'm taking it a bit slower so I will do 3/2s this week and perhaps 2/3s next week or during the second half of next week.

I also must remember to eat something before running cuz sometimes i totally feel zapped for energy!

Anyway, that's my story for these last two--get back on it Lily! never a better time to start than now!

Hi all,

I hope this link can still be active, it's a great community!

Hi Deejlb!
Well today (a week after the last time i ran) I finally did my 3 miles at 3w/2jog and it was hard but it felt good! I did it in the morning under plentiful autumn trees so it was beautiful!

My next run will be Wednesday, and then probably one on the weekend if I can do it. I have a new bf and he takes up alot of my time, trying to get him to do it too! :)

Thanks for the support Dee!

Hi all!
Please help me get back on the horse! I miss the days when I could run 5-7 minutes straight--> last spring! I've been so busy since finals/summer/beginning of fall semester and I need to start again. I find i have to start all the way from the beginning (as in running 2 minutes, walking 1) and its kind of a bummer. I was so good last spring, was sooooo healthy and I wanna be there again. I think I was ok over the summer but just haven't exercised!

Support needed! Thanks!

Hello All!
It's nice to see the graduation list--I recognize alot of names on there from when I was active 4 or 5 months ago! I almost made it, but due to what turned out to be an injury to my shins (from over-running) I had to stop for a month and after that life took me far, far away from jogging/running. And so here I am ready to start anew from the beginning!

Hi everyone! Well I have another whopper paper due in about 8 hours and I'm tweedle-dee, tweedle-doing along. So I came here to procrastinate!

Thanks Dee and Poze I'm glad to be getting back on track. After this paper I have another due in two weeks so I can space out reading/writing much more...healthily!

zarelha--before I had to take the 2 week hiatus, I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM! The tendons in my lower calf were really sore! I was running like 4-5x a week tho, and I thought maybe I should alternate with other exercise types. IN any case I am afraid I'm doing something wrong too so if anyone has an answer that would be great.

congrats sick! I felt great the first time I was able to do my first run as well!

Ok guys. I've been operating on 3 hours of sleep for a few days now so time to get this work done so i can...go to sleep!
