hi Sunshine,

I met with a dietitian when I first began my program, and she asked some hard questions, like "How are you going to get your exercise in when you work and commute 50+ hours a week?" She made me see that if I was serious about making changes, I had to think of a way to do it, and re-prioritize my life. I cut back on my work about 5 hours a week, and spend that time working out instead, because my health is that important to me. It's been a challenge, but it's something I really needed to do.

I bought a Polar monitor for $50 last fall, when I hit a plateau, and it really made a difference. I know when I'm working hard enough to strengthen my heart and burn plenty of calories. It was really worth it to me.

My tendency is to take it too easy unless I have the monitor to keep me honest, so it really helps.

First, please forgive yourself for binging, don't beat yourself up. Its over.

Second, take a half hour or so to reflect on why you wanted to binge. Write down the reasons, if you want to. Think about what you could have done differently instead of binging. Think about what you'll do next time the same feelings come up. Actually visualze yourself doing the other action instead of binging

This process has helped me in the past. I still binge on occasion, but reflecting on why and coming up with alternatives has helped a lot!

Weight Loss Does yoga help to lose weight? Mar 15 2007

I've been practicing yoga for several years. In my experience, it is not really vigorous enough to burn a lot of calories, but the stress relief and self-reflection really helps to mentally prepare you to make the committment to yourself that helps you lose weight, which has been very important for me.

It's a great starting point, especially if you have not been very active lately.
