Weight Loss I just don't get it - if it's so hard to eat 1200 cals, then why the weight problem? Nov 12 2008

Original Post by gi-jane:

I think the explanation is that some people have no control over food.   They either indulge completely or they attempt to abstain completely.  And since we need to eat every day,  that causes resentment.   The 'struggle' to get to 1200 calories is a mental one not a physical one mostly and, once the willpower fades (which it always does), they're back to square one.   Those people are destined to always have a problem because they can never find the happy balance between enjoyment and control.

You just described me!!! You are so right. It's a mentality that i am trying to change. In the past if i felt that i had eaten something unhealthy i would spend the rest of the day eating everything unhealthy. I felt as if i had ruined the day anyway and would start over the next day. i'm happy to say that i think that i have now overcome that and feel a whole lot happier for it!!

What is the secrets to dieting?

Like those before me said, there is no secret. It is just making a choices for a healthier life style. The key for me is that you have to want to do it, you have to want to make those changes. I personallyjust got to a point where i couldn't keep gaining weight, it made me miserable. Making those changes have made me happier than i have in a long time. It has also made me feel proud of myself. How are successful dieters getting through?

Just keep going. Finding healthy foods that you like, exercise that you find fun. Rewarding yourself when you reach your targets!!

How do you get out of binging your life away?

For me personally I realised that cutting all of my favourite stuff out completely was not going to work- that is what wouod lead to me binging. I have things that i enjoy but always in the knowledge that the next day I just get right back on track.

How do you keep it at a good pace?

Changing the types of exercise you do, trying something new so that your body doesn't get bored!!

I have lost 37lbs since June 19th and although I have a few more to go I already feel amazing. Simple changes have given my life back. Don't get me wrong I was happy before, I have a great life, but i wasn't quite me. I started CC in March 2007 at 164lbs, i then managed to get up to 203lbs by June 2008 (I know, not quite what i intended when i joined up) . I refound CC and I am now 166lbs. i would like to lose another 30lbs, but i no that will take time but i will do it!!

GW for this challenge = 158

So i lost 14lbs this challenge. And i'm happy with that. A bit disappointed that the weight has been hard to get off in the last few weeks, but then maybe if i'm honest that is because my motivation just isn't as strong as it was and that is because at 164 i don't feel fat anymore. Not saying that i couldn't do with losing a few more pounds, but just that i feel better about myself than i did at 201, I feel like me again.

So i'm up for the next challenge, hopefully it will help motivate me to get in to the 150s. Gonna be tricky with a holiday to china, a trip to NY, starting a new job and the christmas holidays coming up. But i think i will do better with the support of this challenge than i would without.

Anyway, i'm rambling now.

catch you all in the next challenge.

*hugs*

The previous posts have some good advice. The hardest thing i find myself is resisting the urge to eat junk when i have had some drinks.

BUT apart from that, i count my drinks in my calorie allowance and that's it. I have lost 35lbs since June 19th and i feel fantastic. I can't be to rigid or hard on myself when it comes to good food or the occasional drink or I would have given up a long time ago. I think if you are sensible you can have a little bit of what you fancy and still lose weight!!

Good luck!!

I am 5ft 6. I keep to a 1200 cal limit on the days i don't exercise. I have to say I haven't really done much exercise. I try to do 20 mins of a work video and weights at least twice a week. I want to do it (and plan to do it) more like 4-5 times a week, but i am working 3 jobs at the moe and fitting the exercise in is quite tricky. On the days i exercise i eat about 1400-1500. I think the thing that has made the biggest difference has been cutting down the amount and the type of food i eat. i have gone from about 3000 a day and tons of high fat junk food, to low fat good for you stuff!!

Good luck on your journey!!

I had the same issue. I lost 20lbs going from 201 to 181 and nobody had said anything. But i was reassured by some great people on here that people had noticed but they probably didn't know what to say. I also got reassured that what i had done was a great achievement. So I'm passing on their sentiments to you. You have achieved something really good and you should be proud!! :-)

Also I lost a further 0.4 of a lb and then suddenly everyone noticed. Bizarre huh!! I have now lost 30.8lbs and weigh 170lbs and the nice compliments keep coming.

So well done and people have or very shortly will notice!!

The WW products in the UK are great. I check the labels and everything is low, even sodium. Maybe they differ slightly to the American versions.

I love the chicken and lemon risotto!! So yummy and doesn't make me feel like i am eating diet food.

Mialondon- I agree. i have tried lots of the supermarkets own brands too and i find that WW is better and lower than most- especially Tescos version. Although you can't beat Marks and Spencer's and there low fat brand. Yummy. :-)

I also love WW chocolate brownie dessert and their cheesecake. And put it this way my boyf (whose not on a diet) likes them and will eat them too.
