I guilty of "eating my feelings" also - one thing that helps me, is I have a picture of what I used to look like on the fridge (when I was 127lbs), and under it I wrote "The answer is not in here." It sounds totally stupid but it does motivate me and make me think twice about eating junk food. Besides that, revenge is sweet and if you run into your ex looking sexy and fit, it will really be a smack in his face. |

I have gotten them in my sleep before - and same thing as you, normally they wake me up before they get too cramped up and I can "stop" it. LOL. I just thought it was odd that it happened in BOTH legs the same night. That is a first for me. So is that why they actually hurt less after jogging today - the whole blood flow thing? I'm a little scared of how I'm going to feel tomorrow though... |

I recommend trying new shoes. I had the same problem when I would run until I got "fitted" for running shoes. Turns out I severely pronate (i.e. roll my foot) when I run which was causing the knee (and sometimes even my hip) pain. New shoes designed for pronation made a world of difference. You could also try doing some stretches/exercises to strengthen your knee joints. |

Sometimes this happens to me too - Beth and I (my running partner) call them side stitches. I tend to get them when I'm breathing wrong (too fast/too hard). My friend Melissa gets them if she "twists" her hips/body too much while she's running. Seems to happen for different reasons to different people, but the very least I can tell you is that its totally normal. You just have to figure out what triggers them and try to fix it. |

*My bad about the shoe size thing, I guess I just figured that was common about people needing bigger shoes! I would recommend finding a local running store first. They are going to be better at fitting you for running shoes over the average worker at large sporting good stores. You can try checking here - I can't get the link to come up at work so it might be worthless (it's a runnersworld forum about good shoe stores in Central NJ). http://forums.runnersworld.com/eve/forums/a/t pc/f/687106477/m/2381089434 |

Try doing some core training with an exercise ball. They are a great way to target your abs and lower back. I just started doing this myself this week and I can already feel the difference. |

Multivitamins and Vitiman C especially will help a lot. Also, I recommend cleaning the equipment before you use it. Our gym has cleaning spray and paper towels all over the place - I started to notice that about 1/2 the people that use the machines never clean them when they are done... and then the next unsuspecting victim jumps on to use it. I was getting colds a lot over the winter, and as nasty as it sounds, I figured out it was coming from people that were already sick and using the gym equipment, and not cleaning it when they are done. Just another suggestion. |

I agree - go to the drs and get it looked at. That is priority number one. Second, either get fitted by a professional for your running shoes, or at least go buy a new pair and get them about 2 sizes too big. 6 Months or 600 Miles - that is the standard "life" for running shoes because after that, the rubber starts to break down. I do 5Ks all the time and I absolutely love them. I had a pair of Nike's I was running in and I would finish the race and an hour later my joints and feet would kill me. Finally went to my local running store (Running Etc) and got properly fitted for my shoes... Normally I'm a shoe size 8 - 8.5. They told me I needed a size 10! At first I thought they were crazy but I tried them anyway - WHAT A DIFFERENCE. I also found out I have severe pronation when I run (which is why my joints were hurting so bad) so once I had the correct shoes on it was way better. Also - after getting proper running shoes, I cut almost 7 minutes off my time. What a difference. I love my Asics. |

Totally agree that the proper shoes make all the difference. Cardio was killing my shins, knees and hips whenever I would run or use the elliptical too long... went to the local running store (Running Etc here in VAB) and got fitted for shoes. WHAT A DIFFERENCE. Apparntly I have severe pronation and my old running shoes were actually too small. Now I run my 5Ks and 8Ks and NO PAIN. Its awesome. |

I have had the same exact problem... I anticipated weight gain when I quit, so before I had that last marlborol light, I managed to lose 20lbs... I quit smoking and then I gained about 15 of it right back. Just try to stay focused and excercise. See if your gym has a fitness trainer and/or nutritionalist. They both have really helped me out a lot... it's been almost 4 months since I quit, and I'm already down 7 lbs. You can do it!! Quitting smoking is way harder than starting an exercise and eating plan.

| My hubbie was deployed to Afghanistan/Iraq a month before the Pres even announced we were going over there. I wouldn't say he has a severe case of PTSD, but he def is still having a hard time dealing with it years later - I mean, he was only 20 when he got sent over... we're 25 now.
He doesn't like talking about it either - he espeically hates that the first question people want to ask is "Did you kill anybody" - but he does still have nightmares - sometimes really bad ones - REALLY BAD ONES. I can see his face get kinda ghost-green when he sees things in the news. Now when he's been drinking - that is when he tells me stories from over there - and it has brought me to tears to think the things he's seen (and furthermore had to do)... He def hasn't dealt with anything from that deployment - he just locks it up inside. |

| You could try eating stuff with lots of fiber - that usually fills me up. I can go all morning off one Fiber One breakfast bar and a banana. Sometimes I'll drink a big glass of milk and that will curb my cravings for a while (instead of water). | |||

| tblo: I had the same thing with my wedding dress - I had to get a size up from my normal dress size... so did my two sisters. I guess they are just cut smaller or something... don't let it discourage you though! Look at it this way - they can always take it in!!! :P
PS: My weight today is 143... woohoo! I was out of town so I missed Monday's "weigh in" lol. |

| I totally have your back on this one musicallife - I hate those things with a fire burning passion as well... my best friend has a pair of hot pink ones and I make fun of her all the time.
And I did try hers on to see what all the hype was about and I even wore them for a few hours - honestly it reminded me of when I was a kid and I wore the other most hideous shoe - JELLIES. That is all crocs are to me - the "new jellies". My feet sweat more than ever and rocks got in them just as easy as they did my jellies... which is why my jellies were in the trash 2 weeks after buying them, and why I will never buy crocs. I'm not going to knock those who like them (except for my poor bff Molls) but I personally agree - hate is not a strong enough word. |

| I am too chicken to try a protein shake because my fiance drinks them to gain muscle mass - which I DONT want at all. I personally use the South Beach bars for extra fiber, not protein. I stick with the perdue chicken breasts but it really doesn't matter - boneless skinnless breasts are pretty much the same.
It is scary to eat before bed! Even after my work out I try to be "safe" with what I eat so I keep it as carb-free as I can after 7pm(thats the South Beach instilled in my brain). I think if you eat some chicken, or veggies like carrot sticks you will be fine. I heard a rumor that chicken will also keep your metabolism going longer once your asleep - that could be totally false I'm not sure, but it certainly won't hurt you at all to eat it before bed. I have a really excellent receipe for some "breaded" chicken breast that is carb-free and super delicious - we are having it for dinner tonight actually. I love it because it tricks my mind into thinking its carbs but its really not. If you are an italian food lover like me its the best. LMK if you want it and I'll send it to you :) |

| I took Lexapro when I was in High School and it really helped me out a lot with my depression. As far as the motivation, you just have to get up and do it. There isn't a pill out there (that I have heard of anyway) that will pull you off the couch and into the gym. Once you get yourself to get up and exercise for a week or two, you will start to feel better and now I'm almost addicted to the gym - I feel crappy when I DONT go! :) That is the best way to overcome it - just do it until it becomes a habit rather than a chore. | |||
| Weight Loss | any one have problems with PMS cravings? | Jan 22 2008 18:38 (UTC) |

| I am in the same boat right now - my thing is sweets. It can be real sugar, splenda - whatever, my PMS doesn't discriminate. ha! I just try to eat things that taste sweet but aren't - like sugar free jello - I might end up eating the whole "box" myself but at least that is still only 40cal.
I have a question about this subject though: does anyone else get craving headaches? I know it sounds crazy but it seems like when I get a craving and I don't give in, 5 minutes later I get a nasty headache that nothing fixes - not excederine, not asprin - nothing... |

| Honestly I think you'd be better off eating more after your Jazzercise class because your body will burn off more after your work out than before. You can always cook some chicken breasts ahead of time, and then when you get home either eat some cold chicken with your fruit/100cal snack or heat it up... I just love me some cold chicken though!! Either way - I agree you need some more protein.
If I'm going to eat junk I always try to eat it as soon as I finish my work out - literally - junk food goes in my gym bag instead of my kitchen. And if I have a late night junk food craving, I'll pop in my Slim-In-6 DVD and do a 20 min workout before I eat anything late. |
