Well....i was anorexic a few years ago too....and i am an asian....i tell you....i was nearly bald since my hair fell out soooooo darn much! it blocked the drainage within just only 1 wash of hair! but it will get better with in just a few months. The body is getting rid of the hair because it thinks that it can not afford to look after all the hair on your head! i know that it sounds stupid....but that was what the doc told me. Anyway just eat lots of good fat and protein and they will grow back! but my boobs never come back. they are still very small. oh well i began with and 'a' now i have an 'aa' boobs.....so.....i suppose, thats how the body is punishing me......to starve myself from the beginning..... |

| Weight Gain | Got my period back after 4 years! | Nov 08 2009 23:35 (UTC) |

I suppose the previous weight and the natural BMI of the person is really important. Its probably the most important factor which determine the minimum threshold for menstruation for each person. Moreover the bone structure and muscles differ from one person to another. I wish everyone best of luck and keep the motivation going....its never too late for anything in life..... @sarahquinn best of luck to you! i'm hoping to be a mother in the future too (just not now....need to find a husband a reach the right age first....and finish this degree.....hahaha so much to do!)....hopefully i have not ruin that chance in my life yet b/c of ED!!! i'm so excited for you.... |

The thing is i don't really count anymore. I don't even know how much I am eating. But quite a lot in comparison to my friends, even guy friends. Another thing I find really useful is eat lots of pulses soya and nuts...they can apparently raise your hormone levels. I am suspecting I am consuming about 1900-2500 depending on how much I studies. BTW, my campus is VERY VERY VERY SMALL since I am in London and my campus is one of the most compacted and condensed campus in the world....-_-'' so there we go...very little exercise, apart from IF i go up the stairs in the Library which is so tiring and really weird design. Absolutely everyone hates it. My toning being 20 minutes of just normal walking up hill and some biking for the rest of the time. However I do notice that our starting BMIs, or our natural BMIs are different. I think the rule of thumb is that, go back to your original and plus a little bit more to ensure that your body is now thinking that you are not longer restricting. P.S. Drinking soya milk helps too!
Best of Luck! |

Original Post by agruskin: Hey! i did lost my hope too on getting my period back too ages ago! however anything can happen!! My BMI before i lost it was 18.7 (natually thin since i am an asian) and now i'm about 19.5 a little bit more. However I am completely over food restriction, eat lots of healthy fats such as nuts for about a year. Well at the lowest point of my BMI was actually 15.3 but i lost my period since BMI hit about 17. I have gained my weight back for about a year plus a little more as well. :) I do work out though, about 3-5 days at the gym for 30 minutes just to tone my butts and legs. Otherwise nothing....sitting all day (a college student with tonnes of books to read and essays to write.) Do not lose you hope, there always light at the end of this journey. |

don't worry too much....just keep working on it....be strong and be brave. Don't let it take control over your life again. There is much more to life than just ED! (btw....lots of people has just been complimenting me how great I looked! they don't usually do that before!!) |

Well i have to disagree with DIETING=OBESITY but i think its rather obesity=>dieting.........
but maybe i have lumped it all together than healthy eating promotes eating disorders....but thats what happen to me and other girls in my school. We were encouraged by 5 a days and eating your greens making us think that all we need in a day is just the greens and 5 a day...if you eat more you are adding more food than necessary to your body, thus you will get fat... largely i think its because lack of education and misperception of the human body TRUE image. Lately i have just been thinking a lot how i got ill in the first place and how to aviod my sister getting ill (ED) when she is living in the same enviroment, same education. same peer pressure as i did in the past. Gadzooks, when i come to think about your point, i think that asian culture are putting MORE pressure to be thin than the western just because we are naturally more skinny, but the practice (i.e. how we get thin) are not actually as extreme as what is going on here in the UK and western countries. |

Actually, i have a long history similar to yours but mine had never been like rabbits' but i do go very often...like 4 times a day. I think its just because the body is thinking...''there is not enough space for all the food, lets get rid of them!'' i think its partly why after long excessive restriction, its hard to gain because the body just does not know how to deal with all the food...but the system will get back to normal as in 1-2 a day.
