Oops - one more things ....

turtlegirl253 and blueotter ->  Weather permitting - I "walk and talk" some nights during the week for exercise.  Instead of sitting on the couch and calling a friend - I go outside and make the call on my cell.  Walk goes by really fast because you are enjoying the talk and you kill two birds with one stone.

Hi guys,

It's been a while since I posted but I have been reading.

Welcome to all the new folks!  Every time someone new joins this thread it reminds me that I can start again - another fresh start - another new day.  So welcome and thank you!

I've been doing well overall - I'm down 9lbs since I started about 3 weeks ago (so 17lbs away from 199) - next weigh-in is on Monday and I'm hoping the scale keeps cooperating.   For everyone that is starting, try not to  get discouraged too quickly - my scale didn't move my first week (and I was really  good that  first week) - this past week was when I saw my first significant change.

The water, the support and the counting calories have been really helpful for me.   I've also started exercising with a personal trainer (whom I'm convinced hates me because she makes me do very hard and somewhat unrealistic things) and that is also very motivating because I'm afraid of what she'll make me do if she doesn't  start seeing results.  *grin*

I noticed that I like to eat when I'm happy.  I've been feeling good about my weight loss and so this week I've been eating more.  Why would I do that?  It's like I'm counter-acting my success.  I had this wonderful BIG chocolate chip cookie on Tuesday (you can all imagine what that did to my calories for the day) and I've been feeling guilty ever since.  Maybe I should try to get on this thread and read some of your posts next time I'm tempted.

Have a good weekend everyone and for those of us that weigh-in on Mondays .... we got 3 days to make a difference.  MAKE THEM COUNT!!!!

wrrly - Way to go!  Now if that isn't motivating - I don't know what is .... *smile*

I saw my personal trainer this morning for our second session ..... I can't believe I'm paying to be tortured.  It was one of the longest hours of my life.  *grin*.  Honestly, although I'm sore - it does feel good to know I'm doing something good for my body - besides it  HAS to get easier right?

ginnyannb, vklamorick and ktcort12 -> Thanks for the food/snack suggestions .... that vanilla pudding sounds really good!  Also I didn't know low cal whipped cream existed so that really does open up some possibilities.

Hope everyone has a good day!

Wow - I missed alot on this thread this weekend - it took me half the morning to catch-up.

Congrats to all the losers!!!!!

It was a better week for me this week - I lost 3lbs!  I'm so happy to see that the calorie-counting thing can work for me - especially after last week's doubts.

I had a moment of weakness on Sunday - had a McDonald's McGriddle *frown* but then I was better the rest of the day.  By thinking of it as simply a minor setback instead of a failure - I avoided the binge that would usually follow.

Guys, to avoid temptation I simply don't have anything 'bad' in my house.  I live alone - so I don't inconvenience anyone else but it got me thinking - what does everyone do to avoid 'temptation' at night while watching TV?   Is it really sheer willpower?  Short of having a VERY empty fridge - I don't know what else might help.  Even I know that this is not a feasible long term solution.

What are some of the things you guys do to avoid temptation?  Me, I try not to have anything unhealthy or 'bad' in my house - it works for m

Hi Everyone!

So after Monday's 1 lb gain *sigh* - I took Angelo's and Tully's  advice and chalked it up to water weight and moved on.  I haven't weighed myself since (I promised I would only weigh myself once a week) and have been trying to make good choices.  I still need to buy measuring tape - but it's on the list for this weekend.

I'll be honest - the Monday gain (despite all my good intentions and all that work) was a bit tramatic so I decided that desperate times call for desperate measures and I signed up for a Personal Trainer twice a week.  Today is session #1 so hopefully I wont hit McDonalds afterwards.

Another thing I did was that I enrolled some of my co-workers in what I was doing.  I didn't tell them how much I weighed or how much I wanted to lose (I'm not that brave) but I did tell them I was trying to lose weight and lead a more healthy lifestlye.  I'm was genuinely suprised and pleased with their reactions.

1. One co-worker asked to join me and even offered to go to the gym with me once a week.

2. Another co-worker (who sits on the way to the pantry) looks up with questioning eyes every time I walk by *grin*.  So, no CHEATING FOR ME (at least not under her watchful eyes).

3. I explained to another co-worker that I would reward myself as the lbs came off with a nice pair of shoes from Tod's and asked her to help me pick them out when the time came - she's so excited about helping me buy shoes (she's not allowed to buy anymore shoes because she has too many) that she asks me how I'm doing each day.  It's amazing what people would do to buy shoes.  *grin*

So, moral of the story ..... no man (or woman) is an island and we all need help/support (ie. this forum).   Although it may be a little intimidating, consider sharing your goals (or some of it) with people around you.  You'll be surprised at how supportive some people can be ..... I know I was.

P.S.  199 *smile* - I also can't wait to see that # !

Congrats to all the losers!

So I weighed myself today and the scale told me I gained 1 lb.  :(

I thought I was being so good! I was actually looking forward to weighing myself.  *sigh*

Anyways - everyday is a new day right?  So that's what I'm holding on to - I'm just trying to focus on making good food choices today.

Nice work hdnaussies!

I've only been on this thing for a few days but you guys have helped me kickstart this whole thing and I find myself logging on just to see how you guys are doing - it's motivating.

I live alone and rarely prepare meals @ home which makes counting calories difficult - so a big lifestyle change for me will be to actually prepare healthy meals for myself instead of picking up a take-out menu or getting in the car and going out to eat.

I went into a supermarket (haven't been to one in a LONG time) and I can't believe I spent 2 hours in there!  Time was mostly spent reading labels and comparing products so although it took me a while - it was a learning experience.  I tried to stay away from the middle aisles (where all the carbs and processed foods are) and just picked up what was on my list.

I found the popsicles someone here recommended and I also found some Chicken of the Sea Salmon filets (single serving) packets that you just simply have to heat up in microwave.  Very little calories, no fat, and simple/quick to make.  I also bought some frozen mixed veggies to go with it.

Weekends are harder than usual for me .... so it's exciting that we're already 1/2 through Saturday and I've made good choices so far.  I went out last night with friends and I stuck to club soda and diet coke.

I think I'll weigh myself once a week on Monday mornings (another discussion suggested a Monday morning weigh in to encourage good choices over the weekend) and we'll see how it goes.

May sound silly - but I'm actually having fun doing this.  Granted, it's only been a few days but nevertheless - all the planning and sharing has been fun.

Thanks Tully!  I think your right - I was a size 8/10 in college @ 165.  I would be happy @ a size 8.  More importantly, I would be happy to get up a flight of stairs w/o huffing and puffing.

On another note:

I've been exploring this website and this counting calorie website is pretty cool.  I like the fact that it takes everything in your food log for the day and gives you your nutrition grade for the day.

Today is Friday and someone brings in Dunkin Donuts every Friday.  Well .... I looked one of those babies up and WHOA!!!! So, I haven't had one - it helps knowing that I gotta put everything I eat into that food log.  Hopefully all the donuts are gone before I go to the pantry again.

hrdnaussies = I typically don't eat breakfast and am trying to find something easy (and good) to grab on the go.  Your Kashi Bars may just do the trick. Thanks!

Hi everyone,

I just joined CC.  I'm 32, 225lbs, 5'8 and CC says I should be 148lbs.  I haven't weighed 148lb since before H.S.!!!!!

So, it's a little overwhelming - 77lbs is alot to lose but I'm going to give it a try.  My short-term goal is 10lbs by April 22nd.

Aside from South Beach - I've never seriously followed a diet.  I know nothing about counting calories or about nutrition but it looks like this website has alot of resources.  Any helpful tips would be appreciated.

Well - that's it - just wanted to introduce myself - goodluck to everyone and I am looking forward to reading your posts.

P.S.  My 15th year H.S. reunion is in August of this year - we didn't have a 10th year so I HAVE TO DO THIS.
