Work out buddy has been having some back issues and has been given doctor's orders to not do anything "strenuous". I work out "by myself" on Mondays and Fridays and go walking with her on Wednesdays. I think this will work out well until she's better... but then I want my work out buddy back! The new gym is still absolutely amazing!!!

Well, well, well.

It's been a while! I don't know who remembers me - good to see Carrie and Heather still around, hey guys. Hope everything is well, you look great.

Anyway, I stopped counting cals once I hit my target weight. I figured I'd stick around just for the sake of it but I think I drifted off around page 18 or so. I was surprised to see this is still going on.

I've made the jump to a bodybuilding forum as I change my goal. Instead of losing weight now I'm opting for a slow gain and rather then a numeric goal I simply want to look good (I'd also like to be 200lbs/9% body fat, too, but eh). And I kind of thought to myself, how does it make sense to have a bunch of guys judge how good I look? Women have a better idea and are generally more honest so I think jumping back into this community will be good.

Anyway, for the new people, I'm Matt. I'm 20, and I've been the only guy in this thread but it seems to work out. I like hockey, soccer, volleyball, and drinking. I hope you guys can give me your honest thoughts as we go and if you've got any questions about nutrition, cardio, or workouts especially, feel free to let me know.

CURRENT WEIGHT/BF%: 183/16%

GOAL WEIGHT/BF%: 200/9%

So are we still weighing in on Wednesdays, or what? It's good to be back.

Hi Matt! Welcome back!!!

We were all doing really well until the holidays then everybody kind of disappeared for a bit... we're all slowly filtering back in.

hey everyone, just saw this site and figured i would join in. Im a sophomore getting ready to move back in my dorm. Im 5'8 123 pounds. I lost about 15 pounds since starting my second year through dieting mostly. Now I am just trying to motivate my self to get my butt to the gym and tone up!! ( seem to be a case of skinny fat.) Its still a struggle to turn down chocolate chip muffins and any kind of sweets but a s long as I have some fruit and PB2 near by im in good shape......If I am not in the library studying ....im sleeping or listening to music to un-stress:)(nursing major) Im a vegetarian so i dont eat in the caf much..not really a good selection here....but i guess that a good thing>

Welcome Carolina!!!!

I JUST got back from the gym myself... I'm the "skinny fat" too. I'm so close to my target weight I can practically taste it. Once I reach it, I'm going to start hitting the gym hard-core now that I've got a buddy. I've been avoiding the campus gym because it's all nastiness but now that the new one is open, I think I'm going to go check it out further... maybe tomorrow!

After Holiday Weigh-In: 107.5

I'm amazingly proud of myself... even with all the food, I managed to drop 4.5 pounds. Holy cow... only 2.5 pounds left. Soon it's maintaince, I think. Well, maintaince and toning up.

I'll still stick around though... I've found that having someone to be accountable to is helpful.

Don't feel bad.. my weigh-in is almost EXACTLY like it was except I only went to the gym class once. It's getting MAJOR cold here so I'm doing well to just get to and from classes with as much as my joints are hurting. Maybe I'll do better next week, I'll stick to the same goals as last week for this upcoming week as well.

Work-Out Goal for next week: Continue to walk 3.5+ miles with 20 lb. bookbag; work out with Cardio Salsa DVD minimum of 1x; visit campus gym for "Cardio Dance Party" class 2x (DVD and class dependent on each other, when I do one I won't do the other)

STUCK at 109.3 lbs

Work-Outs since last Wednesday: Walking 3.5 miles total 5x/week with 20 lb bookbag; Cardio Salsa DVD 2x; decided to go "Cardio Dance Party" class at the gym (Discovered that the group classes aren't QUITE as gross because you're not using the machines)

I've decided that I'm stuck around 109-110. Any and all suggestions for getting out of this rut are welcome!

EHHH! Why do I feel like I've bottomed-out at about 110?? Although, I did find a REALLY powerful motivator to stay out of my fridge late at night (at least for me)... I've covered my fridge with pictures of my sailor and I at my smallest. It makes me feel REALLY old (the pictures were taken almost 5 years ago now...) but it's motivation to stay out so I can get that size again.

Yes!  I'm interested!!  My goals are to work out 3 times a week every week this month (except I'm already behind this week, lol), and to get back down to 143 by December 3rd.  My tentative work out days are going to be Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.

I think a big part of my problem was I let myself get behind in my classes and then I just went crazy with trying to catch up and study for midterms.  The thing is that if I wait until midterms are over to get back on track, I never will because I always have exams, lol.  It's one of the wonderful things about being on the quarter system.  Also something I've been thinking about lately is that I'm always going to be busy, and I'm always going to have an unfinished to do list.  It's just part of being an adult, and I have to learn to live with that.  So the point is that I have to make taking care of myself a priority.  I have to make working out and eating right and getting enough sleep all priorities, even when it seems like I have too much studying to do.  So that's something I'm going to try to work on.

Okay, so you took the words RIGHT out of my mouth Carrie. It's the exact same way with me. As soon as I'm finished with one set of major tests, I'm up to my eyeballs studying for the next one. Priorities...

Between mid-terms and a few days of Fall Break last week, I didn't work out NEARLY as much as I wanted to.... and my weight gain reflected that. I'm going to try harder next week. I keep reminding myself that I only have 8 months to get back in shape before my sailor comes home again. I was also asked to be in a wedding in late-May 09. Mine, which I may not adore, but WILL learn to love, are:

33-25-35

I'm not a stick figure and I've got a pretty flat chest (my back actually curves outward up there, so my measurement is higher than it appears), but I'm HEALTHY AND HAPPY!

My doctor is thrilled with me and I am strong enough to bike on highways without being rammed by a car or having to get off and walk up the massive hills.

Those are only my sizing/tape-measure measurements....how about we take other body measurements into consideration? Heart rate, blood pressure, bone density, lung strength, blood levels....they are all a LOT more important than how many inches your waist is! Sure, it's not healthy to have certain waist to hip ratios or a waist over 30 inches around, but I'd say screw the measurements if you have healthy levels INSIDE of your body.

I've been OVERweight and I've also been UNDERweight...when I was overweight, I had high cholesteroland borderline high blood pressure. When I was underweight (heck, even when I was a "healthy" weight in the lower range of the BMI scale) my heart rate was low, my lungs were weak, my organs were failing, and my blood levels were horrific. Girls in my age group thought that I was gorgeous, though, because I was thin and I wore a baggy size zero. Yeah, that was great and all, until I collapsed on the floor and nearly died.

I think that many of us need to rethink our priorties.:)

I'm going to get off of my soapbox now. I apologize if I happened to offend anybody, but seriously, concern yourself with your health BEFORE you concern yourself with measurements.

You make a lot of good points. Most days I don't agree with what society says is beautiful.

Aww... no worries, Carrie - I'm sure it'll be better after you're through with TTOM and give yourself a few days to recover. I got under my 123 yesterday, and ended up going to watch the game with some friends at buffalo wild wings... where I had a huuuuge platter of ultimate nachos, all by myself! And when I got back (I've been a little sick...) I decided to soothe my sore throat with a big bowl of edy's slow churned vanilla ice cream. 1700 calorie day? Check.

We all slip up now and then. Just get back on the horse :) You have to give yourself a day or two off occasionally. Just call it a little vacay from CC'ing, and don't feel bad about getting back to business. :) We'll be all better in a Wednesday or two!

Don't feel too badly. I've been sick myself the last few days and have indulging in my guilty pleasure (but only 1.5 oz at a time!), Ben & Jerry's Chunky Monkey ice cream. After a few days of eating it and realizing it made me feel better (even if only for a few minutes) I've just been "budgeting" it into my calories. Tongue out

On an entirely unrelated note, I finally know when my sailor MAY be able to come home again. In the scope of things, it's not really all that far away so I need to get cracking on this weight loss/toning up thing! Laughing

I'm still here! Things have been WILD with mid-terms coming up around here. I'm also fighting with one of my professors about the difficulty of her class. I spend massive amounts of time studying and STILL don't do well in her class. :-(

WEIGH IN:

109.4 lbs

Weight Goal for next week: Drop to 109???

Work-Out Goal for next week: Continue to walk to/from classes (approximately 3.5 miles daily) with "extra" walking. Get to gym once this week.

Work-Outs since last Wednesday: 5x walking 3.5+ miles to/from class

I wasn't nearly as active as I should have been this week. I've hit a BIG wall with one of my classes and I'm spending WAY too much time in the library or with the professor. It's still not helping. In other news, one of my roomies turned 21 this week and wanted all of the roommates to go out for Chinese. I did well and ate relatively healthy (as healthy as can be expected for Chinese...). I hope next week can be better...

Has anyone else noticed this, or did I read the label wrong?

I hope not, those are DELICIOUS!

Hi everyone...brand new to this so i hope ts helpful :)

Im in my first year at university and living on campus. I love being in res but the food....so hard. We are given meal cards with a certain amount of points that we have paid for and thats how we charge our meals in the caf. Im usually such a healthy eater but they charge sooo much for fruits and vegetables. I got a greek salad and a smoothie for lunch today which was 250 points. My friend got a quesadilla, fries, and desert for only 175! so unfair! im finding it super hard to keep my points while not starving :Pany tips for not falling victim to the burgers and fries?

Hi and welcome! Burgers and fries aren't necessarily bad, they've just got to be eaten in moderation... and there's got to be other healthy things to "balance" them, if you will. I try not to limit myself to strictly "healthy" foods because, I'll be honest... I LOVE my junk food sometimes. Another trick may be eating smaller meals more often. I found out, due to a medical condition, to start eating smaller meals more often. It took some getting used to but now I can't imagine anything else. It works REALLY well for me.

110.3 lbs

Weight Goal for next week: Get back down to 109 -something.

Work-Out Goal for next week: Continue walking to/from class with books (approximately 3.5 miles daily minus "extra" walking) ; attempt to work in Cardio Salsa dvd 2x/week

Up  from 109.4 lbs last Wednesday

Work-Outs since last Wednesday: Walked to/from class with 30 lbs worth of books daily (approximately 3.5 miles daily only counting to/from class. Anything else is considered "extra" walking); did Cardio Salsa DVD once. **bought a cheap pedometer this weekend and it's become my best friend!**

I'm averaging between 1200 - 1300 calories daily but I'm spending WAY more money than I should. The dining hall on campus does NOT lend itself in the slightest to eating healthy so I'm eating a lot of things from a grocery store... thus, spending LOTS of money. Thankfully, I'm not having to get the Lean Cuisine-y type things that have in my freezer off campus. Unfortunately, we're required to have a meal plan if we live on campus and any unused meal money gets defaulted back to campus.

I think I'm really going to like this...

Carrie~ I've noticed that phenomenon even between jeans of the same size and color. Every jean is still made individually so I always try on the exact pairs I'm going to buy.

Well I know weigh ins are on Wednesday but the scale said 153.2 today so I'm really quite happy. :) However yesterday and today I didn't count..so I need to get back to entering things in, its harder when you do your own cooking than when you buy prepackaged stuff and can easily enter it. :s

The cooking things yourself vs. buying prepackaged things is a dilemma that I deal with daily. Because I'm on campus and living in a dorm, it changes things a bit for me. In order to have ANY semblance of "healthy" (and not live on salad alone 24/7) I've found that getting the prepackaged "healthy" things and adding my own extras (fruits, veggies, etc) to it works well. Eating in the cafeteria here on campus means eating things that are either swimming in grease or have been cooked to a pulp. It's rather gross.

Heather, that's a really cute idea for you guys for Halloween! :)  I have no idea what I'll be yet...probably nothing again, lol.

Hey solangeatira!!  Good luck getting rid of that last bit of pudge!  That's kind of what I'm working on right now too, except I'm not as petite as you, lol.  We have weigh-ins on Wednesdays if you wanna weigh in with us! :)

So the water weight I was carrying from Applebee's on Thursday and then my grandma's birthday dinner on Friday is finally starting to go away...I was back down to 144.2 this morning.  I'm going to work out later today...hopefully I'll see 143-point-something tomorrow!

Oh yeah, and a couple of my friends did mention last night that they noticed that I'd lost weight! Yay! :)

Thanks Carrie! Here's to hoping that you're down to your "143-point-something" tomorrow!

I'm just trying to lose those last few pounds and tone up some. I look heavier than I am due to where my weight has decided to "settle". Chick has a stomach and BIG hips. It's kind of aggravating! I'm tiny and even I can see that I look good when I'm dressed up but when the clothes come off, my insecurities set in. I hate that that's the way it is but I'm trying to be okay with it. The first step is acceptance, right?

At my smallest, I wore this amazing blue formal dress to a military ball with my sailor. I've got LOTS of good memories in that dress and would love the ability to get back into it when he gets here. When I was wearing it, I was about 7 pounds lighter and not quite as "flabby". If I can find a picture, I'll post it...

Just jeans?

I have motivation BOXES. I organized my clothes from the last few years that don't fit into boxes and labeled them with goal weights (every 5 lbs for me). I am NOT allowed to untape the box until I reach the goal and have been at that weight for at least 1 week. This way, its like I get a whole new addition to my wardrobe every time I lose 5 lbs AND my closet is not full of clothes that don't fit me anymore. That was just depressing for me. I wore a shirt to work this week that I had not fit into for over a year and everyone thought it was new...I got lots of compliments. Hehe, it motivates me to keep going!

Side note. I really love getting rid of clothes that are too big. Never going back!

What an awesome idea... motivation BOXES! It'd be like Christmas every single time you reached another 5 lbs! How cool would that be!!!!
