It's one of those things... It's definitely in the chest, but I feel like I'm pretty close to being rid of it.

I agree about the low fat cheese thing; it tastes like salty plastic.

I don't think I've ever hit the wall while biking, at least not that I can remember. When I first started biking, my butt hurt like no tomorrow, but 1 year and a pair of biking shorts later, I seem to have really advanced. Thanks for your input!

Usually I go a bit faster, averaging about 18-20 MPH, but the route I took was riddled with traffic lights, and there was a brutal headwind gusting up to 30 MPH. Thanks for your advice, I tend to avoid non-whole grain carbs wherever possible, and I usually save simple sugars for right before a bike ride.

It was a mildly hilly course, and I tend to push myself pretty hard, not to the point of exhaustion obviously, but definitely at least moderate to vigorous. It probably took me an hour and 20 minutes or so to finish, and that's with traffic lights. Also, my diet is very high carb. I had oatmeal with milk and honey, chicken noodle soup, and a bagel before leaving.

I've been conditioning myself for the past few months for a 40 mile bike down a nearby state trail, and today I finally did it!

I wasn't even tired =)

When I am planning a long-distance bike ride, I usually eat a carb rich meal at least an hour before riding. Carbs are readily converted, especially those of sugar, into energy, which is why carb-rich foods are best not long before your exercise excursion.

Absolutely, even when sleeping your body is constantly working. Even though your limbs aren't moving, there's a lot more going on in your body than you know =)

About the "being sweaty when you get to work" thing, I just pack my work clothes in a back pack, along with a towel, ect.
We have showers at work, because we also have a firm-owned gym.

Butter? Evil? More like delicious!

I don't know many butter substitutes other than butter itself, unfortunately. Nothing can quite substitute for the light yellow goodness that is butter.

Who cares what the other people think?
Besides, people don't analyze your eating habits unless you make it really obvious, like chewing with your mouth open, eating in slow motion, or eating really fast.

actually, meat can give you gas too. well, not in quantity, but meat makes your flatulence smell :)

I suggest lowering fiber intake, that works for me.

I went through a period of dieting/binging. Eventually I said enough is enough. I went through the binge part of cycle, only putting on 5 pounds, and my body finally stopped craving, and I decided not to do the diet cycle, and just listen to my body from now on.
It worked, now I don't crave stuff.
Apparently my body wasn't happy at 130 and needed to be at least 135.

I've been binge eating lately. I need help trying to get back to eating when I'm hungry only! I may have gained 7 pounds of fat and lots of water weight. I seriously need to get my cravings under control.
Here I thought this would never happen to ME!

I live by "A calorie is a calorie"

As long as you fit it into your daily intake and you stay within your limits, it will not effect weight loss or maintenance.
Maintaining weight gain? Aug 28 2007

Your body is probably retaining water and/or your scale is screwy. You can safely up your calories to your BMR level AT LEAST and I can guarantee you won't gain weight. So, like 1800. The additional activity will allow you to still lose weight as well.
Remember, your BMR is how many calories you body needs just to keep you alive!
Maintaining Calories - running versus walking? Aug 28 2007
13:12 (UTC)

It's usually just by distance traveled. Slight variations occur because of the intensity of running, but generally it's just distance traveled.
The reason people would rather run is because you can burn more, quicker. Walking 10 miles at 3 MPH takes over 3 hours, whereas running 10 miles at 6 MPH Would take only 1 hour and 40 minutes.

I did that many days during weight loss and it didn't hurt me any!
I think of it as a daily allowance. You're given an amount to spend as you wish all day long. As long as you stay under your alotted amount, you're going to do fine.
Weight Loss How did you lose weight? Aug 19 2007
00:13 (UTC)
I cut out the crappy, greasy, empty calorie foods. I cut out sugared pop, and juice. I also started cardiovascular exercise, starting 4 days a week and now up to 6.
I cut my calorie intake, I have no idea how much I ate before my new lifestyle, I never looked at nutrition labels :P
The weight naturally started to melt away, I lost 35 pounds, from 170 to 135. Only took me 5 months!

Eating one food group excessively in one meal wouldn't qualify as healthy, but if you were to have corn with something else, like chicken or a protein of some sort, it would be much better. Still, corn on the cob is wonderful!! Nummy.

Maintaining binging WHILE maintaining Aug 19 2007

Stop buying the binge foods, and by saving up calories, you are only encouraging yourself to continue this behavior.
So stop it!
A trigger for binging for some is eating less in the beginning of the day, or skipping meals. This makes your body crave more later in the day. Space out your meals so that you don't go too long without eating, and always make sure you have breakfast. Small snacks are encouraged, they keep the metabolism revved up between meals.

Maintaining Help! Spontaneuous Weight-Gain! Aug 19 2007
00:04 (UTC)
Generally, the diet you're on, ends in defeat. You can't be healthy with that low of calorie intake, you will lose a significant amount of muscle and you will be prone to gaining fat weight VERY easily. This is starvation mode, your body eats muscle in order to lower it's metabolism, and it also savors every calorie it can get. How to ramp up your metabolism again? Sadly, you might gain weight, but you have to start eating more, at least 1200 a day. You may gain a couple pounds, but that's FINE! It's better than gaining it ALL back later, right? And once your metabolism rights itself again, which takes about a month or so according to most crash diet recoverees, you will stop gaining and can continue losing again, this time in a much healthier manner.

I don't know about eating disorder dm84, I think they just are afraid of gaining weight back. metaylor2, you don't seem to be on either end of the extreme, overeating or undereating. But you're more towards undereating, but not anorexically, more out of fear of weight gain.

My advice, eat when you're hungry, stop when you're full, don't eat if you don't feel you really need it. I haven't gained a pound doing this technique.
Weight Loss fat grams or calorie counting Aug 15 2007

If your looking for weight loss, a calorie is a calorie.
Whether it comes from fat or carbs won't affect your loss.
Although if you're worried about your health and well-being, 20% of your daily calories roughly should come from fat.
