| Pregnancy & Parenting | Trying to have a healthy pregnancy | Jan 20 2009 13:29 (UTC) |

I just had my first pregnancy confirmed yesterday.... and asked my Dr. about calories -- I've been eating 1200-1300 for about 20 months - (and lost 100 pounds) my dr. told me for the first trimester I should be fine shooting for 1500-1600 - but would need to raise that a bit again later. (BTW - I am two weeks away from being 40 and was considered "infertile" SURPRISE!) |

| Weight Loss | Opinions on this meal plan | Nov 21 2008 01:04 (UTC) |

I would suggest trying the rice -- I only get brown rice -- and also keep instant brown rice on hand for when I need a small amount, or don't plan ahead. the brown rice also freezes "ok" especially to throw in some soup or something. I also second making your own 100 calorie (or so) packs -- we bag up raisins, pretzels, cheerios and such around here. When I buy mini carrots, or fresh veggies I also prep them right away and put them into serving size baggies -- I'm far more likely to grab something ready to go in the morning. I do tend to eat more lean cuisines and/or canned soup than I should -- but for me, and my work schedule -- it's a huge improvement over fast food! |

| Recipes | Problem can anyone help solve it Soya protein why wont recipe analyzer recognise this ingredient when its in the food lists? | Nov 08 2008 15:28 (UTC) |

there are a couple of things that might help, they usually (but not always) help me when I get the evil red flag!
put the # of the ingredient behind the listing in these parentheses [79686] (that is the number for the soya btw -- you can find it on the end of the url (sainsburys-soya-i79686)
3 ounces (84g) soya chunks [79686]
I just tried analyzing the above with both changes and it worked! Hope it helps! |

right now Im on a kick where I have a thomas light english muffin with an egg and laughing cow wedge for my "healthy mcmuffin"
another favorite is a smoothie with light vanilla soymilk, pb2 and a ripe banana
or a whole wheat tortilla smeared w/pb (or pb2) and wrapped around a banana
If I'm in a hurry it's usually a luna bar or a Kashi golean roll. I've learned I need to have a decent amount of protien AND carbs to get through the morning! |

it took me awhile -- but I have gone the vanilla soymilk route (I like it "light" too, I use 1/2 c. in my 16 ounce travel mug :D) I use the 8th continent vanilla (and have since switched to the "light vanilla" to save a few more calories) and find it creamier than the silk soymilks. But there definitely was an adjustment period! |

I don't have the actuals handy, but know you can go to the website to nutrition info or to the "bag a mcmeal" and select an item and see the individual ingredient breakdown. So, you'd have to go to a salad w/grilled chicken to see the chicken info. Or, you can select a salad and subtract all the ingredients except for the greens and the chicken and have a pretty good indication of the total count.

Well as a day camp director -- I'm getting this figured out! I'm not much of a meat eater - but do eat some - and my lunches tend to be "snacky" because I don't always have a lot of time - and I always have a Luna bar in my lunchbox for emergencies! i do try to stay away from peanut butter due to kid allergies - which makes it challenging! usually I have a few of the following pretzels and Laughing cow cheese fiber one, vanilla yogurt and fresh berries (all packed seperately) the tuna salad on the go cups and ak mak crackers string cheese almonds or dry roasted edamame goldfish crackers ww tortilla w/laughing cow cheese, red bell pepper, onion and some turkey leftover salad misc. fruits and/or raw veggies hard boiled egg |

| Foods | Rich, Smooth Coffee without the Calories? | Jun 08 2008 18:31 (UTC) |

I use 8th continent light vanilla soymilk in my coffee -- only 60 calories per cup - and still has some fat in it - so it's creamy, and gives the slightly sweet vanilla flavor to make my coffee seem like a special treat. It also gives me a pretty good nutritional bang for the calorie too. |

| Weight Loss | Would weight loss be this important if... | Jun 08 2008 14:04 (UTC) |

I understand the question -- and a year ago would have said - "sure" I would weigh more if no one could see me. Now - it's far more about how I feel -- I can run into the store in the rain and still be able to breathe once I get there -- I can play on the playground with the kids - I don't have to worry about whether or not I'll fit into a ride vehicle at an amusement park - and I'll stay in my own seat on the airplane! |

I love my smucker's natural pb! hint -- after I weigh it -- if I'm spreading it on something - or mixing in a smoothie -- I micro it for about 15 seconds to loosen it up if I forget to get it out early enough to warm to room temp! |

I always err on the side of safety with such and would want it used by the 4th - 5th day. I would freeze ok if you cooled it all the way (would leave in the fridge overnight), broke it up a bit (so it wasn't one big clump) and then froze. |

| Foods | bread...is this really right? | May 20 2008 14:24 (UTC) |

while some breads are high in calories -- I'd also encourage you to invest in a food scale if you don't have one already - it has GREATLY helped with my perception of serving sizes -- I've had it for a few months and even still this morning I weighed a banana I would have called "medium" and according to weight and the descriptions on this site - it was really "extra small" Things like bread can really vary depending on how "dense" they are. |

I use light vanilla soymilk (8th Continent is only 60 calories per cup) I find it's creamier than skim milk and adds just a touch of flavor and sweetness - and at 15 calories for 1/4 cup - I don't feel like I have to go too light either. |

I don't have a recipe - but would love to see one myself as I love to bake.
Luna bars have become an "on the road" staple for me - not everyday - but for days when I might have a meeting run late and need to avoid the office "treats" or to take with me to meeting where there might be donuts or something else that I don't even enjoy, but want to socially eat - the luna bar fits the bill. I also keep one in the car for "emergencies" as it beats going through the drive thru somewhere! |

| Foods | Question about morning coffee | Apr 24 2008 17:23 (UTC) |

How about gradually scaling back instead of going cold turkey? I am now drinking my morning coffee with light vanilla soymilk -- yes, it still includes some sugars in the soymilk -- but much less and it makes it seem like a treat, but I'm also getting some nutrients for my calories in the soymilk. |

I've had good luck freezing single portions of brown rice as a side -- and I buy the individual frozen fish fillets either with or without marinade. There are three of us, but I'm always freezing leftovers in single servs for lunches, or when someone happens to be home alone. |

| Foods | Taste of Low-Carb Tortillas | Mar 05 2008 13:41 (UTC) |

| At our house we eat the Mission brand low carb tortillas -- they have a few more calories (80 per tortilla) than La Tortilla, but "the boys" can't tell they aren't regular tortillas -- I can get either wheat or white and they do help boost the fiber! | |||
